Review from Michael B.
Winter Haven, FL
Evergreen is a beautiful hotel, but true to Marriotte's usual pricing policy, you are nickel and dimed to death at this higher-end price range. This seems to be their "way" of doing things. Low-tier hotels (less than $50) are junky, and include a bed and a dresser, Middle-tier hotels (less than $100) have free internet and a lot we have stayed at recently come with full kitchens, and the high-tier you pay for everything except the bed and the dresser, but the decorations are slightly nicer.
Take this trip for example. We stayed 7 days in the Marriotte Residence Inn in Buckhead, which ran us $79 a night, included free breakfast and internet plus a full kitchen in the room. We then moved to the Evergreen at Stone Mountain, at $169 a night, with no free Internet (1st 24hr free, pay after that), breakfast cost $12 each (we were on the "special" that included free breakfast, but this was a special offer), and the room comes with a mini fridge (which barely cooled), and you had to call down to checkout a microwave.
It got really bad when I picked up some beer at the store. I looked around the room...no bottle opener. I call the front desk, she tells me to come down and get one. We were literally given the furthest room from the lobby, so I make the long trek up to the front desk. I wait in line for like 10min, only to be told that there is literally one bottle opener in the entire hotel, which resides in the restaurant. So, I am told I need bring my bottles up there to the restaurant to have them opened.
As for the Starbucks mentioned in another review, it's not really a Starbucks. Its their own coffee shop that happens to use Starbucks beans. They also charge like $2 more than Starbucks, which I think charges too much for coffee already.
Don't get me wrong, the hotel is beautiful, and the staff was friendly for the most part. I just hate how they up-charge you on everything, and don't include things that are standard in the middle-class hotels. -

I've stayed in 5 star hotels and cheap hostels all around the world. This hotel is horribly priced for what you get. We booked a suite, the pull out was worse than anything I ever slept in. When we asked for an extra blanket, they brought the cheapest looking thing with holes all in it. The restaurant was terrible. There was only one redeeming quality to the hotel- the pretty park surrounding it.

Located in the middle of Stone Mountain Park, this hotel is not your typical Marriott. The staff is unacceptable. They seem to have 3 times the normal number of employees but no one knows what they are doing. The check-in line hardly moved, our room reservation was incorrect, and they were ineffective at seating 3 men for breakfast. They had 3 ladies working the seating stand. How stupid can a breakfast buffet maître d' be? They were dumbfounded by our request for a window seat the restaurant was almost empty. Ultimately, the breakfast buffet was ok with good omelets.
I was with 3 men on a one night stay to attend the 60th birthday party of our bank's Chief Credit Officer. We ordered a 2 queen bed suite with a rollaway bed. They tried to give us a king suite with a fold-out couch but ultimately offered us the king suite with an adjoining double bedroom. It took 4 people to finally resolve the problem.
The suite was nice but the poor service made the experience unacceptable. They need to close the hotel for minor renovations and reopen with all new staff. I do not think the staff I encountered could be trained or developed.
The hotel is well situated on a nice lake with pretty lake views. The bike paths and running trails are surrounding the hotel. Even so, I would try the Stone Mountain Inn before going back to the Evergreen Marriott. The Stone Mountain Inn is also located inside the park. -

Wonderful resort! When making reservation I suggest you call reservations and ask if there is any special discount rate for Government, AAA, etc...
For a resort the check in took about 15 minutes. Woody helped us with our bags and vehicle. He was very helpful, and told us about the resort amenities. Surprisingly this resort does not have a valet fee (tips are always appreciated) !
They have an indoor & outdoor swimming pool which is open till 11 pm, the kids loved that! The outdoor pool area has a 1ft baby pool as well as a Jacuzzi. There is a large checker board & chess board located right by the pool!
Mountain Brew Cafe serves Starbucks coffee and is located in the lobby area. They are open till 7pm during the weekdays.
The rooms were clean and comfortable and included, flat screen TV, & a small refrigerator.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I am ever in the Stone Mountain Park area! -

Nestled in the middle of Stone Mountain park in GA, the Marriott seems to be the solitary confinement of choice, woops I mean, the training center of choice for the lil' mineons that work for the same company I do.
The hotel is only 5 stories, and the main lobby is located on the 4th floor. If your room is not facing the lake or tiny pool, you are likely to be facing a slope that rises up to the parking lot and drive way. This arrangement leaves very little to be desired. With limited natural light beaming in, this place can be quite depressing on cloudy and rainy days. And staring at the tacky carpet does not help either. Even though the carpet patterns are not as complex as paisley, my eyes were going cross-eyed. Hence, my feeling of solitary confinement.
The advantage of the hotel is that it is within Stone Mountain, and the run from the hotel around the solitary mountain loop is quite challenging with the rolling terrain, quite breath taking at the crack of dawn, and quite serene and placid as the calm lake.
I suppose it is a decent getaway from the city...3 days max... -

I took my hubbi here for his 30th b-day. The bed was sooooo comfortable! OMG. (and i am one of those who's funny when it comes to hotel beds) Well let's just say these spreads got waddled all over in. And I was pregnant at the time and slept like a baby. I adore rooms with blackout blinds and this one had them. I think at the time it was the "Romance Package" I bought. It included chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. Dinner for 2 and Breakfast for 2 and also a couples massage. Being a massage therapist myself (which maybe if I told her she'd done a better job) was poor. The breakfast was outstanding and unlike the other review we had a spectacular view to the lake and mountain. We really enjoyed ourselves here (1 night stay) They let us stay an extra hour as well which was definitely a plus in my book.
