One of my best friend's had her "surprise" bday party here. Her bf reserved a few tables for everyone by the large screen projection of 1950's burlesque women trying to dance. It was just weird but I think it's safe to assume that management thought this might be a cool background. If you are going to play something on a huge screen....at least make it pleasing to the eye and interesting.

This space was a good size for a lounge, with a dj and small dance floor on one end and a long bar along the side. It was a little tough to get a drink but not too bad. The music was house that particular night. I think more people would have danced if they played hip-hop or something. Other than that, this place is okay and probably not going to come again. There are too many other great lounges in SF.

About two months later and it seems as if Eve has come
into its own. A lot of the kinks seem to be worked out.
The lovely bartenders have the complicated cocktail mixology
down to a science which makes service at the bar MUCH
smoother than my first visit. Last night we attended the YBB
Meetup event and enjoyed mingling with young progressive
professionals. Dj Be Brown put it down, Spinning a sultry
selection of jazzy -hop neo-soul which fit the venue perfectly.
He even made vegan cookies :)
The Summer Swizzle is still my cocktail of choice.
Thanks Courtney  P(http://missjc.yelp.com)for another fab event. . .

Quick question for Eve:  What's the dilly with the bouncer outside at 6pm on a Friday?

A Line.  A bouncer.  Oh MY.  I felt like I was about to walk into the hottest, most exclusive, just-after-work club scene.

Instead, I walked into a bit of a dark hot mess   :0

Eve wants to be sexy, sultry, intriguing.  They missed the mark in a weird way.  It's a little pedestrian-meets-bordello chic.  Not-so-expensive-looking interior, plenty of couches to lounge, plenty of drinks-a-flowin'.

I'm doing my best to be constructive because I had a really good time and I'm sure I'll be back.  There's just a cheap-ish feeling about the joint, that's all.

My last question for Eve:  TV screens?  Why?

I really liked this place at 6pm.
But then at 10pm, I was no longer a fan.

At 6pm, you enter through the front door, and immediately see the DJ booth. Movies are playing on the large flat screens and on the walls above the booths. The chandeliers are cool with feathers hanging from them, and the paintings of the scantily clad women remind me a bit of Harlot. It's full enough that every seat is almost taken but you can still walk around without touching anyone else. Music is playing and people are having a good time.

Fast forward to 10pm. We come back after having gotten dinner down the street. Now we have to enter through a side door since the front door is packed by the DJ booth. It's packed to sardine level tightness and smells like sweaty people. Drunk people are pushing you to get through the crowd to say high to their friends. People are screaming random stuff in the air. It is now a club, and an overly packed club.

Though I had fun at 6pm, at 10pm I'm over it.
Maybe I should just stick to happy hour at this place and go home soon after.

I'm always happy to see new SOMA bars. Eve is good for group happy hours. Plenty of lounge seating.  There was a DJ in the front, and lots of room to stand or sit.

The design did not have the wow interesting factor, but it was still relatively hip and cool.  Inside was black everything.  Felt safer with the bouncer at the door, even though a friend's motorcycle was vandalized just in front. But I guess that could happen anywhere.

I'd go back again, since I had a good time:)

What is not to love about this amazing lounge? First I have to say that the place pretty much mirrors most of the standard SF lounges that have a focus on amazing cocktails (eg. swig, rye, anu, rickhouse, john collins) but there's a twist.

They're always playing some sexy pinup films in black & white on the projection system. so as you get more drunk, you find yourself staring into space as beautiful women of the 50s remove their clothing.

naturally, that's not the only appeal to this place. I had a bartender by the name of "Paulie" who was terrific. I think I consumed 8 drinks in 3 hours but he was awesome. He recommended some terrific shots and cocktails and I didn't pay an arm and leg for the privilege.

That's what it's about. I own 12+ bottles of liquor at my apartment so naturally I drink there to save money but 3 ounces of bols genever poured over ice with lemon was $8 and that's an amazing price considering the atmosphere was epic!

Sure, I'm a bit forgiving also since the place it literally across the street from my office so a late night at the office quickly turns into a drunken night of good music and tasty drinks.

Paulie was great, the crowd was small but awesome and the DJ rocked!

I'm not one for huge crowds but I'll be back Mon-Wed to get my drink on and spend less than expected for a great set of drinks. Total spent was $30 and yes I'm drunk as I type this so it was money well spent.

Visit Eve Lounge ASAP but not too soon cause I liked that I could even get a seat at the bar and meet some awesome people.

*PS: they stock bols genever. It's an amazing Liquor and they had it! If you love Gin, please try it cause it's to die for!

Came to Eve on Friday night. Easily got in and there was no cover for anyone in our group. As soon as you walk in, there is plenty of seating - long couch that wraps around the entire length of the wall. Has cute little wood/ tree trunk tables to set your drinks on. We ordered mostly from the bar and I'd say service was great. I didnt have to wait long for a drink!

There was a DJ with dancing and more seating against another wall. Bathrooms were clean and no lines!

I will be back!

I am torn because I want to give this place 3 stars... but based on my experience here this past Friday for Happy Hour, I simply can not.

I have no problems with the doorman, or the semi-chic interior. The bar service was relatively standard... not great, not bad. But unfortunately... one little thing came up short. Well scratch that, one major thing...

THEY LOST MY DEBIT CARD!

Yes, I started a tab with them, and they lost my debit card. After ordering my third drink for the evening, I  asked to close my tab. A few moments later the bartender returned and asked for my name again, and then proceeded to fan out a fist of credit cards asking me if I saw my own, which I didn't. He looked a few moments more before enlisting the help of another female bartender, who I later learned was the owner/operator, and was also the person with whom I ordered my second drink from.

Now, I need to give credit where credit is due. The owner did clear my tab and provided me with three drink coupons for the rest of the evening, which I did use. But alas, at the end of the night they were still unable to locate my debit card. They apologized for the inconvenience and I was asked to call back later that evening or the next day to see if they had found it. I left them my business card and called it a night.

So Saturday, after calling my bank to cancel the card, I called Eve and left a message with the owner. After not hearing anything back, I called back early on Saturday evening and spoke with the owner. She told me again that they were unable to locate the lost card, apologized in a rather cold and unconcerned manner, and rushed to get me off the phone. I was left asking myself "does this lady even understand the inconvenience that this incident is putting me through?" I think not... and if she did, she certainly didn't acknowledge it.

#1- This card went to my primary checking account. Happening on a Friday evening, this has left me without any access to my cash until I am able to get to a branch office the next week, and no easy access via an ATM for 7-10 days until my replacement card arrives.
#2- More importantly, being the card linked to my primary checking account, I had multiple monthly bills and accounts linked to this debit card number. As a result I will now have to contact all of them to inform them of my new debit card number when my replacement card arrives. A time consuming and not fun task.

So thanks Eve. Thanks for the good time. And then for losing my card in the process.

Eve is a great new addition to the bar scene in the financial/SOMA district. I've only been here once for happy hour after work; not too crowded just the right amount of people. OH and it was a friday too so thumbs up as i don't really like overcrowded bars when I'm trying to unwind from my week!! The cocktails are amazing. The drink menu seemed a bit random but the bartenders really know what they are doing and whipped me up a yummy concoction! I would definitely recommend for a happy hour hot spot!

As the new kid on the block, I no doubt it will become a part of the popular crowd soon.

Eve is like most other lounges: It's packed with thirsty people, loud music, and high voltage energy.

I like that there isn't a cover and there is actually room to dance.

Drink of the night: Charlotte's Web. Two thumbs up. Is the reason why I will come back for happy hour or another night for dancing.

Service: I thought the bartenders were nice just busy.  I waited a while for my drink but that's just what happens when you go out on a Friday night at a bumping joint.  Plus the drinks you're ordering from the menu aren't straight gin + tonic drinks. They are actually speciality cocktails. They will take a while to make for the exact reason why you want them-their intricate concoctions.

Decor: chic as a SF lounge should be.

I've been waiting for this place to open...passing it daily on my way to the bus, sneaking peeks as it was all coming together.  And its finally here!

Went last Friday for Happy Hour and it was insanely packed...but the DJ spinning New Edition, the bartenders working their butts off making the 10-ingredient cocktails that no one has any business ordering when its this busy, and the crowd just feeling glad to be done for the week...brought a great energy to the place.

I'm gonna give it a try mid-week so I can taste off the cocktail menu...the drinks look interesting...

Suggestion:  add another bartender on Friday HH, a few more seats wouldn't hurt, and don't you dare ever add a cover!  :)

Met friends here for Thursday HH. Heard it's John Colin's new bar and thought they did an amazing job with the decor.
They carry Chopin. Yeay! Decor was dark and ambient and feels so roaring 20s. From what I recall, they played good music.

Yesterday the weather was great so my friends and I decided to do a bar crawl.  We basically walked down 3rd St...
1) XYZ
2) Davids ( random...just to get a shot)
3) RIckhouse
4) Vessel ( did not go in)
5) EVE...our last stop

I been going to John Collins for years, so when I heard about EVE...I knew I had to check it out.

sleek, chic, and sexy.

dimly lit with bodacious pin ups lining the walls.  there were some low level plush seating along with the usual long bar seats.
short vintage films were projected on the wall of curvy ladies playfully wrestling.

maybe it was humpday but the crowd was chill and the music was not too loud for convos.  the bartenders were gracious and mixing fun gatsby cocktails.
from the likes of other yelpers, this place gets hopping closer to the weekend.

just like it's interior, eve can be nice and a little naughty.

Wow..thank you Eve for:

1. Getting me back into writing yelp reviews (I admit I've been in a yelp funk recently..leave me alone).
2. Finally showing SF what a chic bar/club should look like. Imagine gray walls with black design, chandeliers and accent lighting.
3. Fucking rocking the house with some kick ass beats. DJ Data, you are amazing. The owner used to be a DJ so knows exactly what works. People couldn't get off the dance floor..mind you this was a Wednesday night.

In all this place deserves all the attention it's been getting. If they weren't so booked I'd have thrown a party there by now but the fuckers are too popular. Don't worry guys, I'm happy for you...yadda yadda :)

Only neg is that there may be a $5 to $10 door cover on weekends but that's a small price to pay for being handsomely rewarded once you're in the joint. Definitely check this place out if you want to be part of the 'in' crowd.

Went for the first time this past Friday for an early HH, I liked it!

Decor was dark with a nod to the 20's and cocktail waitresses were dressed to the theme.

Prices were reasonable ($10 is their average martini cocktail price... which to me is good because I'm used to the $14 drinks at The W, you know... Bad Kitty? Purrrr....).

Music was really good yet with a DJ spinning and his partner thumbing what looked like an electric cello.

Decent amount of seating spread throughout, but get there early if you want a seat because by 6pm on Friday they were all gone.

From reading some of the other reviews it sounds like it's been either a hit or miss... hopefully Eve took some of the previous suggestions to heart and will improve the attitude of their bouncers and speed up their cocktail service.

Personally, I had zero issues with the bouncers but the cocktail service did take some time.

HORRIBLE BAR SERVICE and the bartender screwed up our Old-Fashioneds.  I really wanted to like this place, but the service was so disappointing.  We waited 20 minutes to get our drinks.  While it was happy hour and the place was busy, the bartender overlooked us several times and had quite an attitude.  When he finally took our drink order, it took another 10 minutes to make our drinks as he was busy socializing with the other bar staff and he even poured himself a drink.  To top it off, they didn't have Maker's Mark and my "old fashioned" was basically orange juice with whiskey.  Also the happy hour special ($8 cocktails compared to $10 usually) wasn't that great as the cocktails were tiny!

The decor and ambiance was nice and the DJ was dropping some dope beats, but after a couple drinks we decided to leave.

I likely won't be back soon, but luckily for the owners, I'll still be frequenting John Colins.

Really? Aloof bouncers at 5:30pm on a Wednesday? Hmm. I wanted to check this new bar out for happy hour since, if I know the SF night scene correctly, the place will soon be over-trendy in no time flat.

The layout is kind of strange, with a DJ booth in front; I can imagine some serious bumping and flow issues on packed evenings. Maybe that's intentional? I'm not sure I get the concept of why it's called Eve, but there are some vivid paintings that evoke, well, a mini Harlot (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Some nice chandeliers as well, but nothing so extravagantly original. Still, it's from the John Colins guys so I could be underestimating what's going on...

The bartenders were relatively proficient, although one nearly yelled at me for asking for Bombay (as opposed to Sapphire). She kept on telling me "We don't carry that," but when I pointed to the shelf with the bottle, she was cute and apologetic. Guess it's just a few days in, so that's a small hiccup, just like their credit card machine crashing twice while we were there.

Is this the Garden of Eden? Probably not. I'm always looking for temptation but sadly didn't find it here.

If you're looking for a few cheap happy hour beers in the SOMA area, Eve's not a bad place to imbibe. Beat the rush and get there right when it starts (4:00pm-7:00pm), because it can get pretty crowded as soon as 5:00/5:30 rolls around. All drinks are $2 off, which means you can rock a Stella for $3, or a specialty cocktail for $8. Obviously, non-happy hour prices take those figures to $5 and $10, respectively. I've had much better mixed cocktails in my day, so I'd suggest sticking to the hops and barley.

The set-up is a bit odd, as it seems like the main entrance and the emergency exit are backward. It'd be much easier to enter the lounge through the emergency exit, but I'm sure they have a good reason for the layout.

Another item of contention for me was the arrangement of the lounge furniture. It's not the biggest space, and they have these small ottoman-like stools to sit on which put you about crotch level with the folks standing around you. I don't know about you, but if I wanted a little wang in my grill while I suck on an imported beer with my buds, I'd scan the Red Light District of Craigslist and hightail it to The Hot Tub on Van Ness.

It was also a bit weird to see a bouncer in all black throwing down the stink face at 5:00pm. I doubt the post-work crowd is looking to break bottles and use 'em as shivs to bloody up the place, so it seems a bit unnecessary.

There had been a dull roar for the last two months about Eve. What is it? When's it opening? Is this going to be another rolling of the eyes?

Rest assured, the hype is real. It's not going over the top, and it's haughty (with a wink). Leilani the owner did a great job with the place, even down to the cocktail menu.

DECOR: A nod to the 1920s, and yet later decades' peekaboo booby films (think Betty Paige) projecting onto the walls very salaciously to passer-byes traipsing past the front windows. It's titillating, even down to the peekaboo cutouts in the entrance that let you become the voyeur into the happenings of the lounge.

DRINKS: Get an Eve's Apple. It's one of the lush cocktails that still have a kick (and manly enough to get away from being called a frou-frou drink). $10 is nothing for the labor it takes to make the drinks...i.e. it takes the bartender a good 10 minutes to make. The place just opened, so I sympathize. Other patrons, not so much.
Great assortment of drinks, and the beers are chosen wisely.

AMBIANCE: It's not a big space (granted it's SoMa), and it's the new face in the club scene. It's going to be full and little elbow room for a while. The lighting is great, and so is SoMa street parking. My only concern is that more established places like Supperclub and Harlot are going to take business away from this darling.

STAFF: Your cocktail waitresses are cute and very helpful. Your bouncers? Don't give them cause to give you the evils. Because they will.

Ended up here on Wednesday evening for cocktails, and i liked it! Drinks are $2 off, so makes for a pretty reasonable priced HH:)

This is a sexy lounge with a Roaring 1920s-inspired interior, black leather banquettes, and paintings of pinup girls. The only snafu is the service could be better. We waited over 10 mins for the waitress to come take our cocktail order, but ended up hitting the bar ourselves:(

Strange that it was only a quarter full on a Thursday night  for a new place.  Lotta dudes. I'm talking about 75% dudes.  So, if your looking for that, you will be in heaven.

DJ was playing house music that no one was grooving to. Really killed the mood/vibe. Drinks are pricey, not outrageous but certainly not cheap.

So what are the pros?
1. Very attractive female bartenders. I mean real attractive.
2. They serve Malbec on the wine list.
3. Big wine pours. I'm thinking my wine glass was 3/4 full when it was served.
4. Nice decor.

Cons:
1. I hate to compare places but it was very similar to Swig.
2. A bit pricey.

Not my scene but it might be yours. You'll know in about 1 minute of being here.

This place isn't amazing, so why is there a line to get in here?  I came here for my friend's birthday and they made us wait outside because of the male/female ratio.  They also try to implement a dress code of only button down for men.  If I had a choice I really wouldn't bother with this place.

I went last night (Friday) for the "long awaited" Grand Opening party. We went a little early so we were able to get a seat at the bar and leisurely enjoy a few of their signature cocktails before the crowd hit.

I actually really like the venue - definitely digged the art and portraits on the wall. The vibe was sultry, but not too swanky. I personally didn't feel like it was too preppy or stuffy (as someone else said in another review). I thought the crowd was pretty diverse and was a good mix. A little bit of an older crowd compared to the surrounding bars/lounges (mid 20s+), which I prefer.

The music was great - a mix of some top 40, old school hip hop/r&b and even some random alternative mashups which was nice break.

As more people came in and the night went on, the bartenders were a little slow but I do understand that it was only their first night and I'm sure they're working out a few kinks. Cocktails were decently priced - signature drinks were $10/pop, wells were around $6-$8, not sure how much beers were though.

Oh, and they don't charge any cover (not sure how long that's going to last though). I think it's pretty awesome considering Temple down the street (which is LAME as hell) charges $25/head. You may want to be a little cautious though because as time goes on and more people discover the lounge and that it's free, I could definitely see it attracting the more ghetto East Bay folks (no offense)...

All in all, I definitely want to make my way back there. Maybe next time for happy hour so I can compare it to their sister bar, John Colins.

Meh.

I went last night with a friend to check this place out the day after it opened.  It was apparently the owner's opening party, and guestlist-only, none of which was mentioned on the website.  We got in anyway though--it's nice to be a girl sometimes!

The decor inside is lovely, particularly the light fixtures with beads, chains, and feathers suiting the 1920s theme.  I was unenthused about the unfinished-looking bathroom... figured that, considering the theme, there'd be something fabulous in the ladies room.  Nope.

The bartenders, considering that the drinks are complex and it was their second night open, were FAST.  Chick who made my drinks was friendly, charming, and clearly very good at what she does.  Unfortunately, the drinks were waaay too sweet.  My friend's "Gypsy Ballerina" was about HALF St. Germain, which I love in small doses but that was way overdone.  My rye cocktail was also overly sweet.  I like to taste my liquor, people!!

As we sipped our cloying beverages, we noticed that the volume of the (really good DJ's) music moved upward with each new song.  It was incredibly loud, considering that no one was dancing, and people were trying to talk.  I say "trying" because even yelling directly into one another's ears, we couldn't make out what the other one was saying.  LOUD.

I don't think I'll be back, even when the place calms down a little and it's easier to get a drink.  Instead, I'll just take a shot of whiskey, pour in an equal measure of straight sugar, and set off an air horn into my ear.

Happy Hour was great!  I expected a huge bill but it was cheap considering the atmosphere/location.  Bar tenders were very nice and music was great!

I really like this place.  The vibe is great and the people are all friendly.  I can't say much about the mixed drinks because all I had was champange.  I only gave this place 3 stars because I slipped on the dance floor and cut my leg on broken glass.  When I told the bartender what happened she replaced my drink and charged full price.  Eve beware of your wet dance floor on busy nights my slip wasnt that bad but it could have been worse. I do like this place and I will go back, great place to go danceing with your friends.  The music on Halloween was so great, I'll be sure to look out for the DJ!

The staff was very friendly and incredibly polite.  Beer prices were about average bar prices.  The mixed drinks are pretty pricy.  The DJ was interesting, but not really my thing.

The problem was the bathrooms.  Both bathrooms had the most over whelming smell of vomit.  Even after the staff was in there cleaning it up, the smell was so unbearable.  After talking with some people, they confirmed that this wasn't a new issue and it was always like that.

Cute, sexy decor, good quality drinks, friendly service.  I like the modernized 20's ambiance.  It's a nice place to come to after work on a weekday when it's not terribly crowded and get cozy in a dark corner.  ;)

HAD to get out of this place. I was really looking forward to it too.. my fellow yelpers prepared me and maybe my expectations were set high, but, boy was I pretty let down.

I'm starting to think the hiring process to be a bartender should be a little more intense these days, perhaps a HEARING test should be involved.

Bartender lady couldn't hear any of us and gave up by making a rude face and sticking her index finger up at me.. I guess this meant "1 minute" so she could help another customer who could maybe yell louder than me. Of course 1 minute turns into "I'm going to ignore you for 10 minutes and help a few more customers"

We order and they were pretty much out of everything we wanted, including cranberry juice... what bar runs out of cran juice? No patron, no ketel. Why god, why?

When I asked her how much the total was, she tells me "Like, 40". So I collected money and came up with "like 40" and a tip. We should have taken our drinks and made a run for it because she clearly added wrong, came back a good 7 minutes after we paid and tried to ask for the remaining balance. Really? You blew me off when I tried to order, ran out of everything I wanted, gave me my total and I paid and NOW you are going to come back and ask for more?

It's not about the money people, trust me, it's about the service.

I gotta say the bouncer who let us in was nice. I always get so happy when bouncers are nice.

The place was packed front to back, I could barely breathe or get down my cocktail. Due to over crowding, people were shoving the heck out of each other too... I should check to see if I have any bruises today.

I heard a DJ, but couldn't find any dancing going on...

It's pretty inside and well, that's about it.

Ended up at Roe for a quick minute before calling it a night.

Ugh.

Loved the atmosphere, decor- especially all of the pictures on the wall. Since we went early we got a couple tables even though we didn't reserve any. They had to take away some of our tables for ppl ordering bottle service, but offered us a free bottle of champagne or shots to make up for it! Which they totally didn't have to do! They also have some of the best cocktails I have had. Especially the apricot mint champagne cocktail, perfect bday drink!! The music was lacking a bit for my taste because it was hard to dance to. If the dj played better music then this place would be perfect!

Great bar with taste!  The bar itself is beautiful!  The decor is done fashionablly and with elegance.  Great drink specials during the week and it is still not crowed during the week.  It great for now as the B&T crowd hasn't found it yet.  Hope it stays that way!

Eve is a hip new lounge in SOMA - awesome decor and ambiance, delicious drinks, and i loved the music with the live DJ spinning beats all night long.  There is a small dance floor too if you want to get your groove on! The best was the service though.  The bar manager is really friendly and knows his stuff! I asked him to make any sweet drink for me after my apple martini, and he whipped something up that I loved!  No questions asked.  I'm definitely going back.  I've been looking for a chill bar like this in Soma for a while now!

A new lounge in the neighborhood...it's like Harlot meets John Collins. Being fairly new, the bartender that served us seem to be in the learning phase as she was peering over the recipe for the cocktails that were being ordered. One cocktail took her about 15 minutes...but we were patiently waiting...i understand the nuances of a new bar/restaurant. The feel is classic and gothic roaring 20s.There is a dress code and must be on guest list to enter? Well, this night wasn't so busy so the doorman let us in anyway.  Good music that Friday night (hip hop).

Stopped by on a Friday night. Very 20's inspired. The room is fantastic. It's a sexy room. The drink selection was good. I had the lemongrass gimlet. It was delicious. The bartender was sweet, friendly and knowledgeable. The wine list could use improvement tho. There is a "dress code" no hats or hoodies. Strange code for a place located in SOMA. Not sure what was up with the DJ playing Hall and Oats.

It's alright, not bad not great.  I guess if I was a super preppy, blond high heel wearing chica, it would be a good place and more my social scene.  I really liked the music, a mix of some old school r &b and even a little Tom Petty in the mix.  The cocktail waitress was very nice and willing to serve us when a few of us sat at a reserved table that wasn't for us.  It's a pretty chill place, not too exciting and the drinks are well priced.  Paid 20 for 3 mixed drinks.

Nice place.  A little too nice for me, but if you're looking for some eye candy in Soma this may be the place for you.  Get dressed up and take your date here.
