OMG!!!! This is the only place to go when you're in Long Boat Key! The food is to die for and the place is just serene.

Here is a funny story. I had business in Tampa, one of my employees flew down with me on a Saturday to visit family in New Port Richie. After we visit everyone, I said "there is a place we have to go". We're driving and I took the long way, from 95S-to St Armands Circle then North. There are no lights on this one lane beach road and I have this dopey car in front of me doing 24mph in a 25mph zone. I'm dying because I think the place is going to close and we are laughing the entire time cursing this S.O.B out that is doing the speed limit. The dope decides to make a right turn into a store and I go around him while he's turning. All of a sudden a cop comes out of nowhere. He comes over and I'm like: We're going to miss out on pie, where is Euphemia Haye!? He gives me directions (the place is next to the station) and no ticket and I'm eating this warm blackberry creation with ice cream 10 minutes later...

If I were to describe heaven, I would have to say this is place.

If you are ever in the mood for some high quality food, as well, service, this is it. It is a little pricey for most budgets, however, it is well worth it.
The Ceesar salad was very good. One of the best I have had since being in Florida.  The mixture of dressing, romaine lettuce, fresh grated Parmesan cheese and croutons are the best.  The chicken plate was so good it melted in my mouth. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We had some cappuccino after supper, and I tell you.. this is something I would drive the distance to get again. Over all, this is my when I want a special night place to go. Well worth the price. I would recommend you call ahead for a reservation.

I'll give you several negative things:  price, price, price and lack of creativity.  Sarasota is awash in restaurants that live on reputation and mediocre execution.  And part of that is because there is no critical thinking to push the envelope.  Go to a city like Atlanta, not typically thought of as a great food city, and what you find are a plethora of excellent restaurants because the competition constantly pushes the bar higher and higher.  And the sous chefs and line cooks in the good places move on to open their own shops and voila, another good restaurant pops up.

Euphemia Haye is a perfect example of a typically overpriced Gulf Coast restaurant that coaxes people into believing that exorbitant prices means a good dining experience.  Show me one inspired menu item and I'll be surprised.  Show me ten that were on menus all over the country 20 years ago and I'll say:  I told you so.

In truth, it's been two years since I ate there, but I'm pretty confident that nothing has changed.  Why change what so many people seem to like right?  Goes to show you what my opinions are worth.

I'm inclined to agree with Kent K.  My wife and I recently returned to Euphemia Haye to celebrate a special event.  The menu has remained unchanged in the 3 years since we've been here.  It seems that maybe the only thing to have changed are the already too-high prices.

Overall we had an excellent dining experience.  Our waiter seemed knowledgeable about the menu.  Maybe not so much about the wine selection.  The pace was not rushed, which we like a lot.  We had a nice little window-side table next to where the chef will flambe the pepper steak.  That was entertaining.  The food was adequately prepared and the portions were generous.  But we didn't have the "wow, that's amazing!" type reaction to any of the dishes presented to us.

My 4-star rating comes from the comparison of this restaurant against others we have visited all over the globe.  The lack of a star comes from overpricing and lack of innovation.  Since nothing has changed in the last 3 years we are not encouraged to come back for at least another 3 years (or whatever time it takes for me to forget about this review).

A huge disappointment.  It is the first restaurant that I left before I ordered an entree.  The waiter couldn't even provide a good recommendation on the menu - nor do I think he cared.  Caesar salad came highly recommended.  It was very average.  Overall not a positive experience.  It's a shame because the bar upstairs was lovely (as well as service) but the restaurant was a disappointment.  It was surprising the level of experience of the staff at the door on a Saturday night. No presence of a true manager monitoring operations.  All I saw was what appeared to be the chef in the dining area quite a bit - I wish he had spent more time in the kitchen - it needed attention.

How can it be that only one person before me has written a review on this gem of a restaurant?!!!

Where do I begin?  First of all, I felt like I was eating in somebody's dining room in their home.  The rooms are cozy and tastefully decorated with charming antique furniture and nice artwork on the walls.  The staff is extremely friendly, down to earth, yet knowledgeable and accomodating (how often do you find all of those traits at the same time?!).  The wine list is extensive and excellent.  The food is amazing...yes, AMAZING!!!  So flavorful and just the right size portions.  The presentation is wonderful as well.  The food here gives any five star restaurant I've been to in NYC a run for it's money.  I honestly can not find ONE single negative thing to say about this place!  After dinner, you can choose to have dessert in the dining room or head upstairs to the "Hayeloft", which is a more casual cafe-like atmosphere.  We chose to do the latter and couldn't have been happier that we did.  The countless desserts are all on display so you can make a decision after viewing them all...and enjoy your selection with a yummy coffee selection (I highly recommend the cappuccino!).  Although this place is a bit pricey, it's worth every dollar and more, so splurge and enjoy!

I heard wonderful things about this restaurant, but after dining there I was a little disappointed. The restaurant is in an odd house sort of setting and a little dark and gloomy. The pear salad is good and the carbonera style pasta. I hated my lamb dish and couldn't even eat it to be polite, I had a bite of my boyfriend's steak and it was pretty good. When it comes to dessert...you have to leave your table, go upstairs are get seated again. The dessert spread is impressive and its more of an experience to see all the cakes and pies in a separate setting upstairs.

By far my favorite restaurant in Sarasota.  Everyone goes on and on about Crab and Finn or Ophelias - those folks have never been to Euphemia Haye!  The waiter (I forgot his name, but he shared it with US president), was probably the best I've ever had.  The service beyond comparison - and the food was sublime.  Very eclectic menu - but if you're a duck person I HIGHLY suggest the roast duck w/ strawberry sauce - it was heavenly.
