I recently moved to NYC and was looking for a good day spa. I purchased a facial thru Livingsocial and had no problem making an appointment on a Saturday. The receptionist was very sweet and I had my appointment with Catharine. I have never had a facial before and she was very good to ask me all the right questions to decide the best facial for me. She recommended a lot of ways for me to take care of my skin (in this new environment for me) and never tried to pressure me into buying any extra products. I am so happy with the result and with Catharine that I can't wait to go back!

I should give this place 5 stars, but I can't because they messed up my appointment.
I called on a Wednesday and made an appointment for a facial for 5:45pm the following day using a BuyWithMe certificate that I had bought. When I got there though I found out my name had been erased and the scheduled someone over me. The girl at the counter felt awful (it wasn't her fault) and offered to let me do a one hour massage instead. I didn't really feel like making another appointment for another day and I had an hour to kill until I met a friend for dinner so I agreed. Best decision EVER because the massage was AMAZING!! I'm a fan of a more firm massage to get the knots out and that's exactly what Amanda did. Don't let her petite size fool you! I left there feeling great and I will definitely be back for another massage. As for the facial, I'll just go somewhere else.
If you go there for a massage, definitely ask for Amanda! -

Ettias a hit or miss been a few time and have gotten great facials and have had an awesome massage by Nicole but a horrible almost embarassing mud wrap by I wish I could remember her name.
She seemed almost repulsed as she glopped the mud on my I have to say it brown skin. The girl was super blonde and super thin and her name started with an A (dang I wish I remembered what her name was) but anywho a friend of mine received a massage with her and when I asked her how it went she said the same exact thing I did that she felt as if the therapist didn't want to touch her!!!!!!!
Sorry Ettia remind your employees of where they work NYC a culturally infused city filled with people of every shade you could think of.
Till then I bid you adieu-Comment from Bartley C. of Ettia Holistic Day Spa For Men & Women 4/28/2011

Raagimi gives an amazing facial! The extractions were minimally uncomfortable and the rest of the facial was absolute bliss. At some points she was touching my face and I didn't even feel it. My skin is still so clear and refreshed almost 4 weeks later. She recommended some products for me without being pushy. In general, she was a sweetheart!
Nicole was my masseuse. She immediately found all the knots lined up like little soldiers in the back of my neck and shoulders, and she smoothed them right out. She wasn't talkative at all, which I so appreciate--nothing worse than a yappy masseuse!
I am so excited for spa week; I'll definitely be booking another treatment at Ettia. -

I heart Ettia!!!!
I got my first ever massage at Ettia during spa week about 5 years ago, and I've never been able to find another place that matches the quality of services Ettia provides to their clients. First of all, they employ really good masseuses! My most recent visit was with Simoine. She's this petite gal, and you would never think she has this much strength! Plus whatever she did for me (some kind of foot massage/reflexology combo?), she got me to relax, which is NOT easy to do!! I almost dozed off, which is the best feeling in a massage. Ettia is always clean and I think the treatment rooms are padded / sound proof, so they are always dark and quiet. Plus they have only 3 massage rooms so there's never a lot of foot traffic and you don't feel like you're in some spa factory.
Just a word of caution. This is not some luxurious spa with saunas, showers, or wine. So don't expect this when you come here. But do expect to get amazing massages and very good customer service from down to earth folks who know what they are doing.
2 things I'm not crazy about:
1) they used to serve warm tea after your treatment, but when I was there last month, they had room temperature water....
2) I had a facial there about 2 years ago. I had it at the end of the day during spa week so my treatment wasn't the best (I think she was in a rush to go home) -

EDIT (10/26/11)- Literally the day after I posted this review, one of the managers (the owner?) of Ettia called me and apologized a number of times for my experience, and offered me a refund. This is someone who very obviously cared about the quality of their business, and my opinion of my visit. It was a nice gesture, given that so many businesses have adopted the stance of "if you're going to complain we don't want your business". So I'm updating it to an A-OK rating here, because regardless of the one bad experience, customer service this good in New York City is nearly unheard of.
Also, important to note, apparently my facialist was a stand in, and not a regular employee of Ettia.
--------------------------------
Today I went to Ettia as in impromptu post work travel destress treat. I got the busy person package, with the dead sea salt scrub, the "signature" dual massage, and the express 30 min facial.
Lisa handled the scrub and massage- pretty good, and she was very attentive about asking what my needs were. Certainly not the best I've gotten, but definitely in the 3-4 starts range.
Where it all went horribly, horribly wrong was the facial. I've gotten a good number of facials, so I know what to expect, am not scared of extractions, etc. The facialist walks in, and the FIRST thing she says is "I didn't look at your chart... do you have any allergies?"
Fortunately, I don't, but still, big warning light. She didn't even ask whether I had any skin care concerns until after she had already started. The facial was terrible- she wore these gloves that weren't powder free (I checked the box afterwards) and it really stung my skin. I don't even HAVE sensitive skin. She glopped on a couple of products, entirely unevenly- sometimes on most of my face, sometimes on half, sometimes on all. She clearly was trying to remove each product after she used it, but with a range of hilariously failed methods. First she used a nice, warm wet towel. Okay, good, that is what is the standard for everywhere else. Other assorted tools used were a freezing cold towel, a paper towel (bounty quality- rough and scratchy. at that point I just laughed), and a super fluffy cotton ball that wound up inextricably sticking tufts of cotton all over my now incredibly greasy face, including on my lips. She even stopped the facial and TOLD me to wipe off my lips with another tissue. Gross.
She kept shining this super bright light in my face, not just during the extractions (totally normal), but throughout the entire thing (really not normal, and quite uncomfortable).
In all, I walked out of there slick with grease, and despite having just been given a massage, truly stressed by having to sit through the whole ordeal.
This place isn't cheap enough to excuse terrible service, and for the money, there are hundreds of places that are far higher quality. No Thanks, Ettia. -

This place is tiny but manages to maintain a cozy feel. They have tea and special sandals to wear.
The body scrub is good, but I found the facial to be a bit on the wussy side.
They used to have the best massage therapist ever, but he moved elsewhere. Maybe they found a good replacement. -

Wow! I was really surprised and loved this place. I wanted one of those dehydrating wraps for my wedding day, so I could look my absolute best in my wedding gown. A bridesmaid had given me a Spafinder gift certificate the year before for my birthday, so I looked up spas that offered the wrap on Spafinder and found Ettia.
I made the appointment for early on the morning of my wedding. It was easy to get to off of the 1. Once I found the place, I couldn't find the door to get in. It's on the right, FYI.
I was ushered into a small room and had the loveliest spa technician wrap me in steaming hot gauze. She then put me in a vinyl zip up suit, lay me down and covered me with warm blankets to sweat the toxins out. I slept to the soothing sounds of nature for about 40 minutes, only woken every 10 to drink some water. It was VERY relaxing after a long night of little sleep and just what I needed to get me ready for my day. I looked great and felt so relaxed.
I would go back to Ettia when back in NYC. -

UPDATE:
After seeing my review, Ettia contacted me feeling bad about my experience there and they were extremely considerate in having me come back and try another masseuse. This masseuse was definitely much better than the first one and I appreciated their persistence in trying to get in touch with me and have me come back. It was definitely a better experience.

Review from Katherine B.
I came to Ettia with my best friend who lives in Brooklyn and comes all the way over here to go to Ettia. She gave me a facial with Jenny? and a massage with Dan? for my birthday.
I was skeptical by the lack of substantial signage on the street, and the fact that it is in an apartment building, but my friend assured me that this was the best massage/facial in the city (and trust me, I am sure she has tried her fair share and spent a pretty penny doing so).
Well, she was quite right-- my facial had a substantial amount of facial massage, which was awesome and the extractions were quite harmless. My skin felt wonderful afterwards. The massage was one of the most interesting massages I have ever had, encorporating chiropractic-like techniques that felt amazing. Definitely a different massage experience than the ones I've had in the past (Swedish, Thai, Korean, etc.)-- overall quite wonderful.
If I lived in NYC, I'd become a regular too. -

Overall, great experience! The massage with Lisa was okay, but the 30 minutes felt way too short. The facial with Raagimi was amazing! I feel like I am in heaven..This is only my second facial ever, but I feel like a whole new person. Just what I needed...I'm hoping to receive some special deals via email or snail mail as I'd love to go back again!! The only negative was the receptionist who was somewhat snotty and unfriendly..Overall, I'm planning to go back :)

I'm a huge fan of Ettia Holistic Day Spa. It's a small intimate setting for your all of your spa needs. The staff is courteous and professional, and the owner (Bart) really takes care to make sure all of your needs are met, and that you leave relaxed and happy. If you have an issue, he is great at follow up and follow through.
I'd recommend this spa to anyone - personally, I loved my 60 minutes massage and Busy Bee Facial. The rooms are nice, candlelit settings with calming beach sounds playing in the background. My girlfriends enjoyed their mani / pedis.
Their pricing is comparable to most places on the UWS, and they have good "return customer" deals too.
Thanks Bart (and team!) - I'm fortunate to have moved to within walking distance of this spa, and can't wait to return. -

I found this small gem during spa week last week and fell in love with Roxana, who gave me a relaxing "Dual Decadence" massage. Their prices are reasonable, the service is fantastic, and if you schedule another service on the same day of your first service, it's 20% off! Can't beat it.

I love this place. I found it in the spring when I was in desperate need of a massage, and they delivered. Yes, it's in an apartment building and hard to find from the street, but the services are just as good as some fancier/pricier places. The Dual Decadence massage is no joke - the combo of Swedish and deep-tissue types got out all of the knots in my back and I almost fell asleep by the end of it. It's good enough that I plan to schedule another one soon:) Plus, postcards for 10% off your next treatment!

I have been going to Ettia for many years and I have always had a great experience. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. They even accommodated me when I had to cancel last minute a few times due to an emergency. Since I was a long-time customer, they extended me the courtesy of rescheduling without any penalties. That really encouraged me to stay loyal to them. I always pre-purchase treatments (which gives you 20% off). I have sent my husband, father and friends there, and I have gifted treatments to friends. I usually just get massages, but I have also had facials. My favorite masseuse is Nicole, who has a thorough understanding of how to deal with all of my injuries, and is very nice and friendly. Although she is my favorite, I haven't had a bad experience with anyone there and if I need a massage when she is booked or unavailable, I don't mind seeing other people. The place is tiny, but still inviting. And the prices are very reasonable by NYC standards. I would definitely recommend this spa.

Really, this place could not be any better. The facial I had was fantastic and the staff are very friendly. It is not a fancy spa, but it is very relaxing, the prices are great, and the service is superb. I've been to fancy spas before, and not only are they more expensive, but the quality of the treatments were not as good. I plan on going back

I really like this Spa. Both times I have been there has been same day requests. My favorite massage therapist is Irene! No one else there matches with her skills. Sarah is a very good masseusse however, next time, I will wait for Irene. Vanessa did my mini facial, and I enjoyed her treatment. She is very personable and charismatic. The spa is no frills, but it was quite relaxing to go in the middle of the upper west side. I think that their prices could be a little better, so I do not go as often. If you ask, they may give you a bit of a discount. The staff is friendly, and very professional. They also (which I LOVE) do not try to sell you products! Overall, I would go there again.

I went for for a 90 minute massage. Lisa was fantastic and her massage as for as I was concerned could end wars. She was fantastic. The space is small, but my feeling is that the service that you receive should hold greater weight than the space (space is at a premium in Manhattan, hello?). My only criticism is the price: in total I paid including tip was nearly $250.00...which in a recession is a wee bit much. If that is not an issue, then go for it.
