39184 Paseo Padre PkwyEssy is the only person i trust with my tailoring. I wont even give my aunt (who used to be a prof seamstress) the task of hemming my jeans.
Essy is always done on time, and the quality never wavers. Sometimes, she'll even be able to accommodate ridiculous requests, like the one time i asked if she could take in a dress so I could pick it up in 3 hrs' time. poor planning on my part, yes, but she smelled my desperation and helped a girl out.
It didnt go unrewarded though, I gave her a $20 tip. But it was her willing attitude that got her that tip.

Easily the BEST alteration shop I have been to. The outcome is unbelievable. Ive been here several times to have a zipper replaced, and some other items worked on.. and the craftsmanship is PERFECT.
I wanted to give it a 4.5 only because the turn around time is not always fast. However given the quality of work......(and the fact that yelp doesn't do half star ratings)..it deserves 5/5. Reasonably priced, friendly, and a Rare find amongst alteration shops.

I got a bridesmaid's dress (for a cotillion) that needed to be shortened. Essy is a sweetheart. She explained that since my dress had a lot of layers she had to shorten each one which would cost more. She also made minor suggestions and subtle changes to make the dress even better than what I started with.
When I got the dress back (it only took a week!) and took it home, I took a look and it looked as though nothing was done to it. The craftsmanship was flawless.
Thanks Yelpers for helping me find this great place!
My first review and I have to say this place is well worth it!
I desperately needed to find a local place to go to for alterations and after reading all these reviews I had to try it out.
Essy's has made me a loyal customer after accommodating a same day request for pants alterations (3 pairs) and quick turnaround to alter a bridesmaid's dress (less than a week).
Mourin, the woman I dealt with is very nice.
I now know why people will travel to Essy's even if they don't live in the area =)
I was nervous to bring my clothes here at first but thought I would give it a try because it was only a couple of blocks away when I lived in Fremont. I soon realized that they do a really good job, charge a fair price and are willing to rush requests if necessary. Even if I don't need my clothes right away, they always complete my alterations within one week. I moved to San Ramon two years ago but I still make the drive to Essy's because I don't trust anyone else with my clothes, my pants aren't cheap! My right hip is bigger than my left so once I needed only one side of my pants hemmed. It turned out perfectly.
Great job altering my pants! I went in during my lunch hour and I could tell she (Essy?) was pretty busy. She told me to put the pants on, stand up on the pedestal & she measured me in less than 30 seconds. The pants came out the exact length I wanted, all for $10.75. I suggest going to a specific tailoring place as opposed to a dry cleaners/tailor because that's their specialty. I will definitely be coming back! You can't see it off the street because you have to walk further into the plaza but it's located by Masala Grill. Oh and Essy is very friendly (always a plus)!

I found Essy's on Yelp and decided to use this shop to alter my cheong sam (silk dress for weddings). Mourin helped me and was very professional and efficient. She made suggestions on how to make the dress look like it was custom-made for me by taking in and letting out at certain areas of the dress. On the day of the wedding, everyone thought the dress was custom-made and it fit perfectly! I would go back to Mourin without any hesitation!
It's great. Really nice staff, good price, quick service.
I dropped off a pair of jeans on Friday night (went in around 5:30 PM) and had them on Saturday afternoon for only $15.
I had the legs taken in...really, no one wears bell bottoms anymore. Why do they keep making those jeans!?! Anyhow, she fixed them, and they're great!

Brought some button up shirts here to have the length shortened so I could wear them untucked without looking like I'm wearing a dress, and she did a pretty good job. I supplied a "sample" shirt representing the desired length and all of them were done exactly the same. Decent prices, good quality work, convenient location, and relatively quick turnaround time.
Not Bad.
I had the length of my jeans and trench adjusted for $30.
They seem a little cheaper than Forrest Tailoring by Valley Fair
and it beats driving all the way out there when you NEED your
denim for the evening or first thing next day.

Great gem of a find! Bride and I ended up going here to get our dresses altered. Mourin is nice and professional. Prices were reasonable and she goes way beyond to ensure you're happy with the end product. One thing that really stands out about her...my friend (the bride) was arriving a little bit later than me so she asked me if I can change in the other dressing room while she swept the dressing room and her store for the bride. She did not want to get the bride's dress dirty...thoughtful and attentive. Dressing rooms have real doors as well. Give Essy's a try - you won't be disappointed!

The one time I took a pair of pants to a dry cleaning shop to get hemmed, they were returned to me with insanely crooked stitching. I mean, come on, how hard is it to sew in a straight line if you've had ample practice?
Not wanting a repeat of that incident, this time I specifically brought my jeans to a tailor. I asked for original hems, but was told that they weren't necessary, considering the thread of my pants was a typical color. This saved me 50% of what I would have paid ($20). In addition, my hems came out perfectly. Mosey on down to Essy's for friendly, fast, honest service resulting in quality work.
Thanks to Yelp for another great find in the East Bay! Wonderful, friendly and fast service. They asked when I wanted them ready? I said Friday. I'm OCD so I show up on Thursday. Ready for pick-up!
2 pairs of jeans with original hems, 3 trousers with linings and 1 without for less than $100. It works out to about $16/pair--pricey you say? Consider this: quality hemming that doesn't make you look like you're wearing clam-diggers to work--how much would you pay for that?

A mere $76 for:
*taking in a dress on both sides
*hemming two pairs of slacks
*stitching the pleat of two skirts
*completely relining a dress
*rewiring a corset
Fast turnaround, honest prices, quality work and clean facilities.
Oh it's nice that their dressing rooms have REAL doors.

I have been seeing Mourin since 1999 when I used to live in Fremont. She has done all my alterations but most importantly, all my bridesmaid dresses! Prices are always reasonable, alterations are top notch and she always has the clothes done on time, or even earlier at your request. I haven't found a seamstress in SF so I drive to Fremont to see her and she is worth the trip!

I recently lost a lot of weight so I need my suit altered big time. When I brought my jacket to her she said that she could bring in the sides for a reasonable price but I would not be happy with it because it would look funny. She told me to get a new suit for what it would cost for her to bring in the shoulders.
She actually called Macy's because she thought they were having a sale. I was honestly shocked she was turning away my business.
I looked at new suits but all I wanted is what I already had as far as style.
I brought it back to her and happily paid what I did for the great job!
I will go back to her and would recommend her to anyone. Prices were fair, quality outstanding, and very reasonable turn around time.
My bf has been going here for the past 7 years. He gets slacks and jeans hem. I get my suite jacket taken in and had the waist of my slacks taken in too. I also get my pants and jeans hem here. Because of the name of this place, we always assume the lady is Essy. One day, when we ask her if she also owns the Essy's in Pleasanton, she told us that the original owners sold both hers and the Pleasanton place. She bought the Fremont one and the a guy bought the Pleasanton one. But we didn't ask her what her name is :) She is always nice, professional and she knows the perfect length and fit for everything. I wouldn't be able to look professional at work without her!
My usual place to go to for original hem alterations was just too far, so I decided to look for a place closer to home. I stumbled upon Su P.'s review and went to check it out for myself. The woman who runs the place is very nice and friendly. She even took in one of my jeans that were just a little too big (it's okay I got a good deal on them), and they came out nicely despite that jeans can sometimes twist and look funny when they are taken in at the waist. Her prices are a little more expensive than my old tailor in San Jose. If you talk with her, I'm pretty sure she can do a quick turn around on whatever you need if you are in dire straits and need that pair of jeans before the weekend.

I'm pretty fastidious about how my clothes need to fit. As a professional marketer, my work clothes need to fit beautifully and look like a million bucks, even if I didn't spend a million bucks on them. And I've always been a demin freak, so I always get my jeans tailored to make sure they look as good as they can. I recently moved back to the Bay Area after living overseas for a good while, and I was spoiled by having an exquisite tailor back where I lived in Seoul, Korea. So one of the first things I did when I moved here was to look for a good tailor.
My previous tailor in Fremont (recommended by a friend) would nod when I told her I wanted the original hem reattached to my jeans, charge me the price of reattaching the original hem, and just stitch the hem with the same colored thread (not attaching the original hem).
This time I needed three pairs of jeans tailored, and decided to go to Esseys after reading the yelp reviews. Although they were pretty much the same length and style, (I took in 3 pairs of Seven jeans that were different colors), she insisted that I try each pair on to make sure she would get the hem length right. I was wearing running shoes that day, and she asked me if I usually wore my jeans with sneakers or heels. I told her I usually wear 3~4 inch heels, and she brought out a pair of heels for me to wear so she could measure the hem while I was wearing heels, not running shoes. This kind of attention to quality is something you should look for in a good tailor, and I was impressed. Prices are actually cheaper than my old tailor, and she told me that I only had to reattach the hem to one pair, as the other two could be stitched with the same color thread, and the bottoms would look like the original hem did once I washed them.
Very honest, attentive to detail, and dedicated to her craft. She'll be seeing a lot of my business in the future.
Great job on my suit jacket. Took in both sides for $30. Nice.
** update 10/05/07**
another pair of poorly altered denim (they turned out 1.5 inches shorter than i requested) has prompted me to update my original review. in the recent months, i've brought in 4 pairs of jeans for alterations. each time, i have had to go back for adjustments due to mismatched lengths b/t the right leg/left leg, or the alteration itself being too short. i mentioned this to them and i was told that it was due to my legs being uneven. found that somewhat strange, as i've never felt that i've had a ONE inch discrepancy in length on unaltered denim. so i tried telling them to just go off the measurements of one leg and make both the same length. instead i end up with jeans that are 2 inches shorter than what i had originally requested. overall, i feel like the quality of work here has greatly diminished and that lack of attention and care has resulted in haphazardly altered pants. totally unexcusable as you can't replace inches from a pair of jeans if they were already cut off. be careful when getting denim altered here!
*****
normally i'd never buy denim if it required altering. but ever since the skinny craze hit, i'm forced to deal with it as the inseams seem to run superlong. sigh.
so essy's is the place to go. for $20 she will alter with the original hem, if there are whiskers/fading on the wash, this is recommened otherwise if you alter it shorter you lose the wash on it. if it is a regular dark wash, its about $15 to just alter the length with yellow stitching, or if you prefer, another color. she's really good with regular alterations too, i.e. tailored pants, sleeves etc.
