Serving great espresso here! This place was renovated, now it's more inviting and spacious. Often with a lot of BU students on laptops, or chatting out front. Just about every time, I am greeted with a smile. From ordering to enjoying that velvety foam, only a few minutes pass.
Beans used last time were Barismo's Sonata, which the barista cheerfully described... woody, with cherry notes. The presentation is often impressive, with a leaf design. The first time I saw this, was a pleasant surprise. As for lavor? Mmm, good.
The regular coffee's not bad either. They use Atomic beans, for those in the know. After 5pm, they run low on pastries... I've had one of their pricey organic bars, which was okay. Will be going back.
Espresso Royale is next door to work and has vegan snacks, so I hit it place up once a week or so when I'm hungry for a quick fix. However, I notice that they tend to run out of pretty much everything edible after around 5, which seems odd considering how many people work late (ahem, grad students) and get hungry right about then.
The selection of vegan snacks is okay, I feel like I shouldn't complain because at least they have some, but I feel like I should complain because they basically only have cookies, and an overpriced scone every now and again.
The service has been better the past few times I've been there, but half the time it's some stoned guy who forgets what you've ordered right after you've just told him what you want. It's kind of annoying to repeat yourself like twelve times.
The selection of tea is good, and since I'm not a coffee drinker I will have to direct you to other reviews if you're interested in taste. They do have soymilk though, which is a bonus if you're into that sort of thing.
4 stars because they have a bagel rising inside. The bagels are always good and its very consistent. This is the only place i'll order veggie cream cheese. Its great. All the sandwiches are good too. My favorite is the New Yorker(pastrami and swiss).
The atmosphere is very cool as well. Good music, art on the walls, Funky decor, couches and tables.
It has a very homey feel, at least it did until they did their remodeling. Now it's more of a starbucks meets a prison cell feel but its still worth going.
Don't get me wrong I LOVE the food this place serves. Rather, the whole Bagel Rising/Espresso Royale chain. They're terrific, and always have some quick, tasty coffee and food that I can actually eat without getting ill (vegan options!) Plus I'm told their "regular" food is quite tasty as well.
This place, however is like the other Espresso Royale locations, only with terrible service. Maybe not actively malicious service, but these kids seriously don't give a sh*t. Please, can I order a drink before you flat out demand payment? Is listening to my order really such a difficult, time wasting process? Really, I'm terribly sorry my presence interrupted the conversation you were having with your co-worker.
The establishment is huge, nicely maintained, and almost always filled with BU kids. Can't complain about that (it *is* right outside of BU) But if you want somewhere a bit cozier, with free wi-fi, go to a coffee shop closer to Allston. If you want better service, try another of their locations.
A staple for any BU student who thinks they're hip ....
(1) Don't even think about going there if you're in a rush.
(2) Do consider working there if your wardrobe is exclusively from Beacon's Closet (Williamsburg/park slope Brooklyn), Housing Works or American Apparel.
(3) The whole wheat everything bagel with hummus and veggie toppings = good.
(4) Brundi coffee = not so good
(5) Service = terrible terrible terrible.
- Overpriced drinks
- Tries to hard to be artsy/hippie/whatever - just seems like a crowded dump trying to pose as something better.
- Rude, slow - terrible - staff
I don't like this place.
Whenever I have a meeting or something at BU, I think "hey, I should get a coffee at Espresso Royale, rather than some outrageously priced terrible drink at Starbucks across the street." And every time, I'm disappointed. Mediocre brewed coffee, inconsistent cappuccino. The final straw yesterday was a chai latte that was lukewarm, and tasted like nothing. literally NOTHING. not like tea, not like spice, not like milk. It was like a big cup of mysterious void. So, I figured I'd better write a review to remind myself: no Espresso Royale, unless it's for a bagel.
This Espresso gets four stars for their awesome (seriously, ridiculously awesome) bagel sandwiches and two stars for their un-free WiFi. I feel like any on-campus coffeeshop should have free WiFi by default, especially when every BU-owned eatery can offer it to its students for free as competition. So if you're coming here to study, you've been warned: you have to enter a credit card to surf.
HOWEVER: they crack the eggs for their sandwiches to order (at least they used to when I went here--it makes a huge difference), have a huge variety of regular and vegan cream cheeses, and serve delicious sandwich combos that cater to both health-conscious and breakfast-meat-craving customers.
This place is absolutely atrocious. I ordered a cappuccino this afternoon, and after watching the barista spend 5 minutes putting it together (to no benefit of the quality), she gave it away to another patron despite the fact that the patron asked if it was her drink, which it was not. Had the barista listened to the other patron, she would have heard the patron and been able to prevent this, but the barista immediately raced to the back to send a text message, thereby leaving me without a drink and without anyone to make another. This is but one of numerous instances of poor service, but do not fear ERC, you will never again be troubled with my business. Maybe that will help you stay authentic.
I frequently have mid-days cravings for the Joy of Soy as well as the Chia Bagel...the staff is young, rapid and enthusiastic., yet lines can be long during lunch hours but I guess it's worth the wait.
*** 3.5 ***
I came here once with my friend. We were about to see a show at the Huntington Theater and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. My friend has eaten at one of these before and said it was good. If I were to judge by just the look of the place, I would think it was just another Starbucks-type of cafe, nothing special. However, I was pleasantly surprised.
First, the downside. The service is super slow, which is a major turnoff. We thought we would have time to get our food and eat it before the show. But by the time I got mine, I had to scarf down a half as we scurried back to the theater.
The upside: their bagels are good. Really good. I can't remember exactly what was on mine, or what it was called, but it included bacon and sundried tofu cream cheese. It was delicious. I dream about it daily.
Though I am a little disappointed with the increase and price and the loss of "grunge," I remain a loyal, obsessed Espresso Royale fan.
The atmosphere is great for studying, meeting up with friends, daydreaming and man-watching (there are some very cute baristos).
So much better than starbucks- AND they know how to make those little designs on the top of your latte- well worth the price.
My suggestions:
Raspberry Mocha
Spanish Latte (AMAZING)
Moroccan Mint tea
Really? I'm amazed this place has less than 4 stars. I stop just about every morning for my coffee and order an occasional breakfast sandwich. I won't pretend to know a lot about coffee... but it's delicious! They mix up the beans every couple weeks, always with two varieties available, and anyone working there is happy to describe the current featured brews. The bagel sandwiches are also awesome. I have only had a few different ones because I am so loyal to the Chia Bagel (tofu spread, avocado spread, tomato, sprouts, lettuce, honey mustard, cheese). The pastries are also decent, I've had the vegan scone (always vegan options) and the flaxseed bar (yum!) I do agree that the staff is pretty eccentric, and they're not necessarily in a huge rush, but they're very kind and enthusiastic. Bottom line: best place to get a coffee in the area.
This could be a nice place. It's got all the right elements: great location across the street from BU; very good coffee for people that actually like the taste of coffee (if you want boiling hot flavorless brown water as a medium for holding your cream and sugar, go find a Dunkin' Donuts instead); good food (most of the time); prices that are at least a few cents better than Starbucks (although that's not saying much).
What ruins this place is the insufferable attitude of the kids that work here. Maybe it's because most of them are BU students just like the customers, so that line of formality gets blurred. Maybe it's because the "clever" signs ORDERING customers to recycle have set a bad example. Whatever it is, they seem to believe they have a license to huff and roll their eyes at customers and mutter sarcastic comments whenever their routine gets disrupted. A casual atmosphere as an alternative to Starbucks is nice, but let's not forget this is a place of business and I'm a paying customer.
This isn't a rash review from someone that just had one bad experience. I was a regular customer that's been letting a lot of things slide for a while and I've finally just had enough.
I am giving this Espresso Royale location two stars because of two major things:
1) This place is not good for those out of college individuals. It is over ridden by college kids.
2) It closes so early! This may be be an aspect of Boston's weird atmosphere where everything is shut by 12, but I don't get why a coffee shop with so many college kids around closes so early. Maybe they close later during the school year? Anyway, I am the kin d of person that just want to get a hot cup of coffee late sometimes, and I was really disappointed when I checked Espresso Royale.
Given those two things, the coffee I had is decent. The bagel was great,. But for me, the college atmosphere and the early shutting time makes this not an ideal place.
The bagels here are delicious! That's really the only reason I go here. They are big and not too hard and full of flavor. Their garlic herb cream cheese is so good I can't try anything else on the menu.
They have a big selection of food - a little something for everyone. They have a lot of loose tea flavors, too. Pretty awesome.
The only downside? I the service here is s-l-o-w.
I was the 2nd or 3rd person in line to order my food, and I got to stand there while one girl worked slowly, and another was fiddling with her cell phone, looking like she was sending a text message. She just sorta stood there, doing nothing. Then about 5 minutes later she decided to finally come and help taking orders and making food.
When I go into a coffee/bagel place, and there is only one or two people in line, I expect to be in and out within less than 5 minutes if all I'm getting is a bagel with cream cheese. Why did it take close to 8 minutes?
So, I will go here only when I have too much time on my hands. The food however will ensure I keep coming back.
This cafe is wonderful for a comfy spot to read and think.
That said, I wouldn't necessarily come her for the food or drink. The coffee is a tad expensive and I'm not too much of a fan of bagels.
However, it has a lot of great features that have really made it my go to spot for some quality time with myself.
It has a two couches and they are comfortable. Touche Espresso Royale, touche. Their coffee is also tasty and there is a great variety. I highly recommend the Yerba Mate Latte. It has yerba with a shot of espresso, honey, and steamed milk. It is divine, and a pairing that I never really thought would work...
There is also a nice atmosphere. It doesn't feel too studious although a lot of people look like they are doing their homework. But neither is it too loud or distracting.
Again, just a really solid reading cafe. If this place were to go, I think I would be hard pressed to find a place as comfortable and easy.
One question first...why oh why did you remodel? Espresso has lost some of its charm...it used to be so unique...now it looks like an old man's shirt...beige...BLEH. But aside from that the coffee is good here and the bagels...YUM. I love the everything bagel cause it has just a teeny bit of sea salt. All of their cream cheeses are delicious. And to be honest, you can't really go wrong with any of the sandwiches. Definitely some of the best bagels in Boston.
Not to be polemic but. I hate this place.
My largest problem with Boston is its inability to define itself. Espresso Royale is a perfect example. No matter how hard you try, Espresso, you are never going to be on Telegraph Ave in Berkley. I'm sorry.
The bagels are good, but they're from Bagel Rising--right? So, no points for that. The coffee is overpriced...all coffee is over priced. The line is totally confusing. Are we ordering food? Just coffee? Do the employees just ignore you unless you're wearing a tiny leather strap around your greasy bangs with Ray Bans? Probably.
I will give this establishment one thing: there is no other space like this one on BU's campus, which I find horrifying, but then there are never any seats. Ever.
Boo on pretentious coffee shops. I just wish there was some other coffee shop to flock to. Unfortunately not.
I love for this place in the summer when the BU brats are gone. It's still not bad year round. I live for the iced Spanish latte; try it out.
No free internet? In this day and age? You are F&*$%^g kidding! I don't care how good your Avocado Turkey on a Wheat Bagel Sandwich is or how yummy a pot of Earl Grey tea is with soy milk - not having internet access is simply unacceptable.
You are no longer even part of the ERC Fam, so who are you trying to front?
Yay! I'm a fan.
I just noticed that Yelp put that next to my star rating. Bravo, Yelp, for reading my mind. Bravo.
The decor looks like the inside of a crayola box with a gray tile floor because of the bold, saturated, differently colored walls. There's a sign that warns patrons to bus their own tables else face the wrath of the monkey deity. (I don't remember what they called him, but there was a mask on the wall)
While waiting for my delicious sammich and coffee, I thought about how I would love to run around the place snapping pictures to send to http://www.passiveaggr.../ . And I'm sure that each note was fully well prompted and earned by idiotic customer behavior.
Hipster run and decorated - BU student infested. Good food. Great coffees. They care about the quality of the coffee as well as the craftsmanship that goes into making your brew. There was a lovely little design in the top of my latte due to a controlled pour. These bevs are made with love. The menu can take you to Hog Heaven or Hog Hell ($6.66 - how clever). Lots of avocado to offer. Plenty of vegan-friendly options, including pastry. The eggs are free-range and so are the spirits.
Go! Go! Gadget-Espresso!
Spend more than an hour in here and you will emerge smelling like day old coffee. I don't know what it is about this place-- just don't wear your Sunday best if you plan to chill out here.
That said, this place is comfortable (sink right into that big green couch), the staff is relaxed (albeit chain-smoking in front of the store half the time), the coffee is great, the tea selection is amazing, their bagel sandwiches rock and their desserts aren't half-bad, either. Best part? They let you sit here forEvAr and study.
If it weren't for Espresso Royale, I wouldn't be able to define the Central Hudson 4-part Test or recite the remedies for copyright infringement. That's right. It's all because of Espresso Royale.
This place definitely has character. Located across from the Boston University Marsh Chapel, this cafe draws a young crowd, mostly from Mac-using BU students.
With a pretty extensive bagel/sandwich menu, a wide selection of teas, and good coffee (I really liked their Spanish latte with sweet condensed milk), it's definitely a relaxing place to sit down and work. It gets pretty crowded so I had a little trouble finding a table, and it can get a little loud, but I liked sitting their with my cup of coffee while I churned away on my massive Excel spreadsheet.
My biggest gripes are that I couldn't find enough power outlets to plug in my laptop, and that you have to pay for wi-fi, but maybe I'm just spoiled by the free internet in New York.
Um ... I love you? Can I come out and say that, ER? Every morning, I go there. I get my coffee discounted because I bring my cup. This place made me love drip coffee again. Plus, tofu spread makes my life complete. One of these days I'm going to have to wean myself off of coming here every morning, but it's such a soothing ritual. It takes me back to the Espresso Royale on State Street in Ann Arbor, a long time ago, when my coffee and bagel morning addiction began. Meanwhile, the Joy of Soy sandwich is also super tasty, and their muffins aren't bad either, although they keep them fridged and I like mine warm.
I am bumping this up to 4 stars. "why" you ask? the answer is simple. caffeine-free vanilla rooibos soy latte. ok I know its like yuppie x 1000000000 but I dont do caffeine, ok? the soy makes it creamy. its rare that I can order a fancy dessert drink in a place like that WITHOUT caffeine. even though it cost me more than my first bra, at this point it almost feels worth it.
but yeah...FOUR FUCKING DOLLARS FOR AN ECLAIR THE SIZE OF MY INDEX FINGER??? ok. it was a really good eclair. but still.... COME ON GUYS!
nice list of caffeine-free beverages and teas makes it even. way too expensive for what its worth, but hey, thats the city: NYC prices in crappy college-town Boston.
the kids behind the counter need showers. and haircuts. christ, Im getting old :(
This place used to be my "zone" when I was in school - the place I would go to study. I can't have too much quiet when I'm working, so it was a good compromise, considering a lot of other people read/write/study here, too. I still stop in here with a book when I'm in the area; must be ingrained in me. I love their rooibos tea and since they added "Bagel Rising" in a few years ago, the place has transformed. It just has a great, homey vibe.
I love EPC. While their prices are still high, they are either the same or comprable to that of a starbucks and the quality is generally better.
I make the slightly longer trek to EPC to get a Cubano which is my favorite kind of espresso drink and I think it is hard to find a place that trains their employees the right way to make it.
The food is also delicious. I just wish they'd getter better air conditioning and sometimes the people are a bit stuffy.
Long lines. Burnt bagel smell. A rotating soundtrack of the best of The Doors and Led Zeppelin. Strict dress code of black, plugs, armpit hair and tattoos.....
YERBA MATE LATTE!!!!
Can't beat it.
Convenient to school (Berklee College of Music), and also a selection of vegan sweets, not to mention the tofu spreads for the bagels. It is definitely nice to find more places popping up with vegan options. They also have soy milk for teas or coffees.
Although they have always been nice to me, I do understand that the employees can seem more caught up in entertaining each other and playing whatever music they want (and loudly) than really providing good service to the customers. But that is kind of the attitude that comes with out of the box things like this (as opposed to Starbucks, etc.)
They have tables indoors (always taken), and tables outdoors (when it's nice), which is nice if you have a dog. I have a Chihuahua who they always say "Hello" to, and they allow me to pick him up and bring him in to quickly order my drink and bagel.
They have a bathroom here, which is great (since a lot of coffee shops dont?!)
A lot of hipsters hang out here, which is not always the greatest. But what are you going to do?
Again, not the cleanest place but the latte is much better than Starbuck's. I also cannot come in here and not get bagel. I always mean to try a muffin but I really am unable to pass up my whole wheat everything toasted with veggie cream chease......mmmmmm..........

Okay, so I've only been here once but I really liked this place. I came on a Sunday morning to enjoy… Read more »
The reasons I've continued to visit this place are the Iced Chai and several bagel sandwiches and the comfy couches. However, the place can be pretentious in the super hippie artsy indie way (you get the idea). For the most part, they're nice to the customers minus a few who do not work there anymore. There's your typical college crowd here, mostly hanging out or studying. The music can be somewhat loud, but it doesn't bother me for the most part. Plus it's a little bit more welcoming than Starbucks which is too bare and bones for a coffee shop in my opinion. The prices are generally the same as Starbucks. I really can't tell the difference between Espresso's coffee and Starbucks. However, the Chai does have its own distinct taste which I have not experienced anywhere else yet. Though I've never had this happen to myself, but I've seen it -- don't talk on your cellphone when ordering or they give you an angry stare. Oh ya, and the pastries there are really good too.
As a multi-coffee cup a day citizen I pride my judgment when it comes to coffee shop hot spots. I've relied upon Espresso Royale various times to get my daily caffeine fix, and I can honestly say that their chai is amazing. This should not lead you away from any of their coffee or espresso drinks however, they will also allow you to feel your heart palpitating in a manner never felt before. Their latte's are great and if your hands aren't shaking, or your forehead not sweating by the end of your cup, then I will literally pay you back for it.
The ambiance at ER rival most trendy and elitist feeling cafes that I've seen both in Boston and in Western Mass where I went to college. The one positive exception is the fact that unlike the stuffy, pseudo-intellectual attitudes commonly held by todays young baristas, ER's baristas greet you with a smile and sometimes you can even catch one of them belting out Elton John whilst preparing you a bagel. ER is quite large and has enough room to seat a good amount of people. The amount of tables also guarantees that even if there are no seats available when you first walk in, that by the time you wait through the line to get a drink, there WILL be a table with your name on it.
The one thing prohibiting me from giving them a 5 star is the fact that the wireless is not free. In fact you have to pay something like $3.95 for an hour, $7.95 for a day, or $14.00 for a month. Not that I'm complaining, but if you want free wireless just go to the harvard ave cafe in Allston. Ok, ok well I'll admit that I got suckd into paying for wireless on numerous occasions just for the fast-paced environment of ER. But if you don't need to have a quiet buzz of conversation at your coffee shop while doing work, I suggest you go elsewhere. There are a number of couches and large tables for larger groups of people, and the decor is very bright, and features artists (which I'd assume are locally based).
I love ER despite its expensive wireless rates, but I encourage you to go and make your own judgment. Because my judgment may be skewed by the double espresso that seems to be influencing my ER Yelp! :)
This is such a great place!
I would have never visited it based on my experiences at Bagel Rising, which have always been decent at best. Why the pairing? Well, Bagel Rising serves Espresso Royale coffee, and Espresso Royale serves Bagel Rising bagels. So I always figured they were one in the same, store-wise. One time I'm glad I was wrong!
I stopped in on an early Sunday morning when I was waiting for a hair appointment for a wedding later that day. I was way too early for the appointment so I had to find some coffee and some sort of nourishment, stat. Espresso Royale was the only place open and serving. I shrugged off my doubts and walked in to what, at first glance, reminded me of what Starbucks would be like if the individual franchises were allowed to put some personality into it.
Espresso Royale boasts an enormous space with lots of seating and a menu that goes well beyond just coffee, bagels, and morning goods. You can choose from tons of sandwich items, make your own creation, lots of soups and salads, a gazillion things to drink, and even a bunch of vegan options.
Additionally, there's a very "make yourself at home" feel to the place, and many people from all walks of life (students, retirees, and wedding goers such as myself that day) saunter in and cozy up with a book or a laptop or delve into conversation with friends over some treats and drinks.
The prices were extremely affordable, and I found my particular choices for that morning (double espresso, low fat chocolate chip muffin, and a scrambled egg beater) to be well worth my trip. I was sad that I had to leave so soon - but a hair salon and a terrified bride awaited me.
Will certainly return without question.
I always feel like I'm a huge pain in the ass when I go here.
Now I'm a pretty simple kind of gal when it comes to ordering....every once in a while, when I'm feeling all crazy and complicated, I like an extra shot of espresso in my latte. Other than that, it's basic; coffee, soy milk, sugar. That's it.
So I don't really get why they always look at me with such disdain at the ol' ERC. Like I just asked them to stand on their head while juggling flaming cups of espresso instead of, well, making me a damn cup of coffee, you know, cause I'm IN A COFFEE SHOP!
The worst part of it is, the coffee isn't even that great....it's good, it's caffeinated, but I don't hear a chorus of angels every time I take a sip. So if they aren't assembling the best cup of coffee ever, exactly what are they doing for the 15 minutes it takes for them to get me my drink?
Maybe it's just me, but I always feel like I'm missing the joke here.
I really like this place, when it's not insanely crowded. They have an awesome way of doing cafe au lait. They give you an separate carafe of cafe and a separate carafe of steamed lait and a coffee cup. Thus, you can create your own cafe au lait with your desired parts cafe and lait. I also like the whole dark, funky atmosphere. They have real lamps, which makes it feel comfortable, and couches and comfy chairs. Perfect for lounging. Sometimes it can get loud in here, however, when it is crowded and/ or when they play the music a little too high. This makes it rather difficult to have a conversation or focus on reading or studying. I agree with others who say it's best in the summer when it's not so crowded.
I would give this place 4 stars, but I am subtracting a star for the crowds and the loud music and the fact that it's a little overpriced.
Espresso Royale is easily the best coffee shop in Boston. The staff is unparalleled. They're not rude; they're willing to explain what's in a drink if you don't know; they're obviously having a good time without shunning everyone in line and they just create a really warm atmosphere.
They also have really good food and incredible drinks, to boot.
Since I go to BU, I visit ERC pretty much everyday. I am not a big fan of coffee, but I love their hot chocolate and bagel sandwiches. The secret 'awesome' item on the menu is their chocolate fudge. I don't mind the calories when I'm eating one of those. Love them love them love them. The spicy chix sandwich is a new addition and its pretty good too.
The atmosphere is very laid back and they play some awesome indie music. At times they have promotional CDs that you can pick up. The staff is super cool too. You'll see a lot of BU students studying or hanging out here when school is on.
The only negative thing about ERC is that you need to pay for the wifi. Unless you're a BU student (in which case you can use the wifi on campus if you sit near the window), you have to pay for it. Oh, sometimes the lines get too long too.
UPDATE - I may have just fallen in love with the wraps. Confirmed.
Espresso Royale is a great coffee shop if the following things appeal to you:
-Waiting 45 minutes for a cup of coffee when the place is moderately busy because there's only one register being manned by a disgusting, lazy hippie chick.
-Having your bagel prepared for you with a heaping helping of hipster douchebaggery and lame-ass quips by the goofy-voiced loser who cuts the bagels.
-Sitting in stuffy, sweltering conditions no matter what the season, and breathing in the pungent fragrance of the deoderant-less dirtbag college students who for some reason cram this place to the gills. You'd think at a college coffee shop there would be some good people watching, but at ER, you'd think wrong, unless you're into dude-hats, bad breath, and face piercings.
-Paying $8 for a sandwich assembled by the same slack jawed troglodyte mentioned above, for whom, apparently, the skill of putting a well-proportioned amount of roast beef on a bagel is as perplexing as the mythical gordian knot. That $8, while a ripoff, includes a free smart-ass self-referential lame-as-hell joke.
-After your endless wait, in which you will be barked at by some twit if your cell phone rings, you get to drink coffee that tastes like burnt dog hair.
-Being unable to work or read because they are playing the latest pile of emo dog crap that passes for music to the unlettered Phillistines behind the counter at an egregiously offensive decible level.
If, like me, you think this sounds like a living hell, go to Dunkin' Donuts and get your coffee served in 15 seconds by friendly professionals, and sip it in the relaxed, empty environs where your only company is likely to be a raving homeless man who is ten times as pleasant as the average customer at Espresso Royale.
I had rehearsals at Boston University for most of the summer at least three times a week (I was stage managing), so I would often need a caffeine boost. After working in a hot office for 8 hours shredding paper, answering the phone once every 3 hours and photocopying (while listening to your boss's iPod which includes the likes of Eminem and High School Musical), I'm ready for an iced mocha.
This particular location gets AN EXTRA STAR because one night, I hadn't grabbed dinner and I was starving. There were muffins sitting on the counter next to the cash register, but I didn't want a muffin for dinner, because I didn't need to be in a diabetic coma that evening. So I asked for a sandwich, and the girl working there must have seen my face fall to the floor when she told me they weren't making them at the moment because they were about to close. She gave me a free muffin! I was overjoyed just to have any carbohydrate in my body. I wanted to hug her. But I didn't.
So I took my iced thai tea latte (by far the best summer drink ever) and my free muffin and went to rehearsal with a mostly full tummy. The end!
