My experience here was AMAZING!!!! what a better place to watch all your games at and grab a drink with a friend or have a bite to eat while watching the game. The service was fantastic and the food was hella good!
Oooohhh and the cool thing is you get your own TV in your booth, so no need to ask the waiter or waitress to change the channel for you.
DISGRACEFUL! For an apparent tourist draw, in the heart of the Staples Center, and OD'd on the whole SoCal sporting experience, we were expecting something pretty slick when, gasping with thirst and staggering with hunger, three of us stumbled in to the ESPN Zone for a quick, late lunch, and a well deserved, post-work beer.
The place was no more than 25% occupied. We observed this with mixed feelings - perhaps our timing was perfect, or the place sucked...
First, nothing, absolutely nothing could be done to squeeze us in to one of the 50 plus empty tables, without first checking in with the college-age hostess. After standing in line, the hostess finally deigned to recognize that we existed. "A table for three, please."
We soon discoved that the hostess was programmed to say one thing: "Oh, that will be thirty minutes."
But, but, the place is empty - 30 minutes to wait? Why exactly?
"That will be thirty minutes."
OK, look, we are in a real hurry, we are practically suffering from malnutrition, and our kidneys are about to fail from dehyrdation.
"That will be thirty minutes."
I stormed in to the bar where there was a selection of at least 10 4-6 person booths to choose from. All empty. Some needing busing but still unoccupied. I asked a bar-person if we could sit at one of the booths.
"You will have to check with the hostess."
I checked with the hostess.
"That will be thirty minutes."
YAARRGHH!!!
Thank goodness for the California Pizza Kitchen up the road. We were seated in minutes, and were in and out in great time.
I don't get the obsession with sports that involve balls in the first place. To dedicate a bar and restaurant to the subject seems even more weird. But to have a bar that is verging on the abusive, branded as an ESPN property, is just embarrassing for the network and chain.
So, I came here for lunch w/co-workers and it was definitely an experience. They got 5/6 orders wrong. My chicken was raw. And to boot, they charged my credit card the ENTIRE order, after we had asked to split it. It only took me three months to dispute w/my CC b/c ESPN would not allow them to credit back my money even though I had an original receipt showing the correct amount.
The only thing good about this experience was the beer we got on tap.
Short version:
DO NOT GO HERE. Seek other local sports bars unless you want to pay WAY too much for getting jerked around by incompetent employees.
Long version:
I was seeking out the annual Missouri-Kansas football game (neither team's great this year but hey, tradition!) and, after striking out at one place, I figured I'd finally give the ESPNZone a try, despite all of its ratings on Yelp. First thing -- LA Live will screw you on parking. You'll probably end up paying at least 20 bucks if you want to stay for a whole game.
So we got to the restaurant. Eventually, our hostess told us we could watch the game ONLY on one of the televisions outside the upstairs bar, even though the bar was closed (and despite the 8 million TVs in the dining room and bar areas). We grabbed a couple (overpriced) beers and went up to this balcony. After sitting by ourselves in the chilly weather (for LA anyway ;) ) for 20 minutes having to listen to the audio of another game, I asked the channel technician if he could flip the game on inside the empty bar in front of us. He gladly did (thank you, sir!) and, for the next 10-15 minutes, we were fine. THEN, some employee with a walkie-talkie who was clearly digging on his "power" came in and told us to leave since the bar was closed. I told him that the hostess downstairs had told us to come up there to watch the game (though left out the fact that the "closed" bar was clearly unlocked and showing games... not seeming that closed to me). He went off and eventually the MANAGER came and told us that we had to leave... even though there was no one there, we clearly weren't bothering anyone, and I was totally content watching my game and drinking my expensive beer.
She brought us downstairs and then (after a lot of confusion studying their own layout maps of the dining room) that yes, the MU-KU game was actually on in the dining room after all... but in order to watch there, we would have to spend $10 per person per hour... meaning at least another $60 for the two of us to sit and watch TV. I asked if the 20 bucks I'd already spent on beer could be applied to this fee. Nope. There was ZERO interest in satisfying the customer and hey, isn't that what restaurants and bars are supposed to be about? Giving your customer the best experience possible? At the ESPNZone, it's clearly more about sticking to corporate rules and regulations and extorting everyone who walks through the door rather than creating an environment where people can just watch the game and have a good time.
So, we took the table since the game was already in full swing. I have to say, to our waiter's credit, he recognized that I was really peeved by this point and let us just order a dessert for the time being. So we watched the end of the first half and, before they could suck us for any more money, we paid our bill, paid for parking... and that's how we got out of the ESPNZone with "only" paying 60 dollars to watch almost a half of a football game.
This place is only interested in bleeding money from you. Seek out your local sports bar where they actually appreciate your business. DO NOT GO HERE!
If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive restaurant near the Staples Center to have a pre-show or pre-game dinner, this place will fit the bill. It's not fantastic, but it's not horrible either. Plus, there was a forty minute wait at the Yard House, and ESPN Zone was able to seat us right away.
The good: The slider burgers were decent, and the chocolate chip cookie sundae was yums. Our waiter kept the drinks coming pretty steadily. Plus, this place is literally right across the street from the Staples.
The bad: The table was dirty when we sat down, and our waiter looked totally put out when we asked him to wipe it down down. He also looked put out when we asked for menus. And when we initially ordered drinks. Bad day, perhaps?
In sum, this isn't a place that you just can't wait to go back to, but it served its purpose: quick, inexpensive restaurant without a wait pre-show. We enjoyed ourselves just fine.
The food here is sub-par at best, absolutely terrible. All the burgers were very very dry, and where was the waiter to refill our drinks to wash down this crappy food?!?! The prices here are overpriced, $15 bucks for a dry burger! But, then again who comes here to eat good food? We all come here to drink and watch sports! We got hooked up with the Skyboxes, which are pretty nice! Its live a private VIP room, front view of the huge screen, plus two TVs in each room which you can control. Definitely a good place to host a party if you can get the Skyboxes! The food on the other hand is horrible, but its a good place to chat and drink!
Pre-Kings game: this place gets packed and you have your eyes set on a recliner like I do...you'll be shit out of luck. Well, unless you show up with oodles of time to spare. I've never had to wait for a table but once seated, the quality of the staff goes down as the patron count goes up. Be sure to ask for everything and anything when you initially order!
Post-Kings game: great to grab a late bite. There's 2 bars and the restaurant as well, so seating is never a issue. Once it dies down, then its not a issue getting great staff service. Just be sure you don't drink too much, once closing time nears...they're not very cordial and will toss you out. The po-pos are out in sexy full force, so avoid DUIs people!
The prices are the same at any chain but at least the food isn't sitting under a heat lamp. As much as I love Staples & my Kings...I'd rather not eat there if I have a choice!
Yesterday after the DUCKS LOST (Fri @ 10) :D...I shared a bbq flatbread pizza (sort of greasy and dry; not getting it again) and my ever fantastic cheese fries. The fries are one of the few items that I LOVE there and will get every time! They're thicker than shoe strings, fried to a perfect crisp..topped with tons of cheese and handfuls of bacon. Its not exactly waist friendly but its great for the soul. :) It could easily feed a family of four...so be sure you bring people to fatten up with you over a drink & some laughs.
My experience here was pretty sub-par. You can't really expect much from a place that exists for the purpose of watching sports. But when you're 2 drinks deep through half a Dodger game... do you really think it's a great feeling when the waiter comes back with your next drink carrying the check? Makes you wonder if they really want your business. Especially when you order your next drink and the waiter comes back with a brand new bill, replacing the old. Now I'm no expert on the restaurant business but usually how it works is that you keep ordering food and drinks and when you're ready for the check, you ask for it.
In addition to the poor service, the place (and all of the surrounding establishments inside the Nokia/LA Live complex) leaves you with a really weird feeling. The only light that exists in the entire area is generated from giant advertisements, like the LA version of Times Square. It's hard because you know they want you to have a great time but the intensity, the bombardment of everything in this area is just too much.
The ESPN Zone, for what it is, serves it's purpose I guess... but I won't be coming back. It's douchy. It's like a Hooters without the Hooters. It's a brand new polished metal turd in downtown and I can think of a handful of better places to go watch the game so why bother?
I gave them another star because I had a really really good Caesar Salad with Shrimp here the other night. The shrimps were mid sized and were perfectly cooked. They didn't have anchovies which I LOVE as long as they are fresh but...as most restaurants...they don't have anchovies for their Caesars ( I am sure most people are pleased they don't)

I've been to this ESPN Zone twice. Yes, it does not compare to the Anaheim location, which is unfortunate. However, when I came here to eat prior to a Kings game, we were seated on the restaurant side with a view of the electronic snow fall trees. Pretty nice view. The food was decent and the beer was as cold as the other side of the pillow. The game room is a lot smaller than Anaheim's, which is disappointing. I have yet to sit on the the bar/screening room side, so that's a review for a later time. For now, I'm headed back, waaay back...to section C-U-LATER!
As much as I dislike the ESPN zone near Disney, at least that one has parking to go with it. Which is saying a lot when you're able to find cheaper and easy to get parking at Disney than you can in Downtown L.A.
The whole place is a giant tourist trap for sports fans. You come in and see the planet hollywood of sports. It's really a lame place to go. I don't think I would ever come here to catch a game. Even with the tons of video monitors that they have. It just seems so forced and so generic. Besides that, EPSN is a mess of a network to begin with.
Food here wasn't good and was priced as if it was something more than what you could get at TGIF.
The game room was really a waste as well. In all, the Anaheim location at least has some fun involved with it. If you're here to get drunk, why bother? You have the option of Yard House very close by. You already paid the insane parking fee, might as well see the remaining sights.... which are all blinding by the annoying light pollution.
Six of us came here last night before the UFC @ the Staples center. I have been to the downtown Disney location a million and a half times, and have even celebrated several birthdays there. I never really had any complaints, I mean the food was never outstanding but it wasn't horrible either. It was just a fun atmosphere, good for a large group of people. Now that's the Disney location, this one on the other hand.....
There was a lot going on around there, so I expected it to be packed (which it completely was) I think they should be used to this, considering their location. But judging from the service and food quality, I guess not. So I get it, you're super busy, were a pretty big party, there's tons of sports on with tons of drunk people standing around and yelling at the TV's..But COME ON! First I ordered a Washington apple martini, but what came out was just an appletini..I didn't say anything cause I didn't want to have to wait another 20 minutes for a new one..But I really wish I had, there was hardly any alcohol in it, and it tasted mostly like sweet & sour..Bleh...My food came out on the verge of being cold, and if we weren't in a hurry and I wasn't so damn hungry I would have sent it back, which is something I never do. The fries tasted like they were sitting under a warming lamp for at least an hour. The burger was ok, but I could probably get something better at McDonalds. I ordered a side salad, that came out with my entree..WTF? And I made it a point to ask for a side of ranch as I was ordering my food, and of course it didn't come out with it. So we asked for 2 sides for me and my friends when the food runners brought everything.. Ranch never came. We had to ask a security guard to ask our server to come over. 10 minutes later she shows up, we ask for 2 sides of ranch, 2 of our friends order dessert and we ask for the check. She comes back 5 mins later with only 1 side of ranch, I was nearly done with my food already so I passed it on. another 10 mins and out comes the dessert, still no check. Finally we asked again for the check, tipped the minimum and got the hell out of there. I do have to add that the dessert they ordered was the rum carrot cake, and that was pretty delicious, I just wish the whole meal could have been the same.
Needless to say I was completely unimpressed, and will avoid that location like the plague.
Straight up this place is the worst! I live in downtown and I love LA Live. Yard House is great but a bit pricey so I decided to check this place out when my parents were visiting during last seasons NBA Playoffs.
We went the ESPNZONE 3 hours before the Lakers game to watch the NHL Playoffs. There wasn't a single person in the joint. The hostess told us that since the Lakers were playing later that we would need to EACH consume a min of $20 worth of food/beverages PER HOUR! So in total for four of us for a 3 hour game we would need to shell out $240...
They got my middle finger and we went to Yard House where 1.) the food is much better, 2.) the beer is much better and 3.) the servers are much better.
Go to Yard House. Avoid this place like the plague.
This place wasn't that bad. I liked that it looked like a Vegas sportsbook, and it looked a lot less groddy than places like Dave and Buster's. How ever, like DnB, it is hard to flag down the service.
But I do not actually think people come here for the food. Its a sports bar and grill, mostly for pregame and postgame hangouts. People looking for an awesome meal should try the various options in the vicinity.
The bbq chicken flatbread pizza was pretty enjoyable, and they also had a deal for Anime Expo attendees which included a burger, drink, and a 10 dollar gamecard. But I was not really looking to play any arcade games, as I had to run back to the convention center for numerous events.
Lots of televisions, with lots of sports. Very similar to Dave and Buster's without the danger. By danger, I mean the fact that the one in Arcadia could be a place for a potential stabbing. LA Live is nice, and so is the atmosphere here on a gamenight.
It is a nice place for fans to congregate for the Lakers or the Dodgers (or maybe the cruddy Kings). The food could be cheaper, though. I seriously expected a worse experience based on the other people's testimonials, but I found ESPN Zone a nice place to catch an afternoon ballgame on their numerous televisions. If you mind their food, don't order it and get the cocktails.
Be glad their televisions aren't always on ESPN. Even the ESPN-themed restaurant is sick of Michael Wilbon.
Javier J. had it right. This place is forced and generic. This place seems thrown together and poorly designed. The service is absolutely awful and the vibe is very strange for a sports bar. The sports fan should be able to get a list of the channels that they carry because the TVs at the tables have no channel indicators. The TV's and tables are not arranged well. The beer and food are OK. The ESPN Zone in Anaheim is superior.
Skip and hit up the Yardhouse.
Yesterday was my first time at LA live and after a show we decided to get a late dinner. I have never been to an ESPN Zone but have wanted to see what its all about.
When we walked it just seemed like a typical theme restaurant. We were seated in what I believe was the main room. After taking a minute to look at the menu and acclimate to the space my girlfriend and both looked at each other and decided to leave and head to The Yard House. The environment they create there for a casual dining experience is just very unwelcoming. It felt like a run down Chillis with dirty carpets tons of TV's. It was just not a place that I really wanted to eat.
I will say that everyone seemed to be nice (hosts and wait staff) but I cant speak for the quality of the food. I can say that everything looked overpriced (ie $14 for a burger) and nothing really stood out on the menu.
It felt more like a Las Vegas sports book than a place that I want to eat at.
Note to ESPN, stick to TV.
Okay, so I've never been mistaken for a sports junkie, but I was out here to celebrate my cousin's birthday. However, I'm not entirely insane...I am a Lakers fan and I've been known to catch a Dodger's game or two.
So ESPN Zone... I've heard a lot of good things about this place and had only previously been to the one in Anaheim. This one has parking, if you like spending a week's worth of pay on parking (it is downtown). For a better deal, park at one of the many places along the way ($10 flat rate).
The ambiance is great with all the flat screens on the walls and at the booths. Even the bathrooms have little flat screens above the urinals. Definitely a better idea than having the sports page; I mean who wants to read while you pee? The place has only been open a few months so everything was new and looked great.
The food was pretty mediocre and a little overpriced if you ask me. The good thing is that many of the items come standard with bacon! Who doesn't love bacon?! The drinks were pretty good too. The service was great and apparently if you're endowed with breasts (Michelle M.), you can substitute anything you want on the menu... LOL
The game room upstairs was fairly disappointing. There's a bar up there but no one was tending bar so we had to keep going back to the main bar downstairs. Also the the games were fairly limited so they definitely need to up their selection. Overall the night was a fun time and I left satisfied. It's a great place to go with a group, but I won't be going there just to catch a game on their TVs and have a drink....Too pricey.
ESPN Zone is in Downtown L.A Next to the Staples Center....I've been going here during the Laker Playoff Run but let me tell ya the Service here SUX, the Doormen and waiters are Rude and Food is Expensive. I can understand there's allot of people wanting to watch the Lakers but come on have a little Heart and be more Nice and Courteous to your customers. The only thing I really like about this place is the Big Screen Movie T.V, unfortunately we can't even get a seat to watch the Big Screen T.V.
Overall stay away from this place when there's Big playoff games, Service is bad and Food prices is not reasonable.
Not to pile on...but this place is terrible. I can't help but compare it to the ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney, which is FAR better. The management at ESPN Zone-Los Angeles must be lazy or incompetent. Here's why: We went here for a sporting event and could not get a seat in the main room, where the large screen is. We asked the hostesses many times if it was possible to get a seat in that room or at least put our names down for the next available. They simply seemed overwhelmed and incapable of doing this. They said they could not. So, we sat in the bar and waited 15 minutes. We saw a table in the main room leaving so I thought I'd ask the hostesses to seat us in the now-open table. Again they seemed overwhelmed, and the place was very far from packed, though this time they were able to seat us. We could have saved a lot of time and stress had we just been able to put our names on a list for the next available table.
Food was okay, no complaints here. But the setup of the main room with the large screen was just ridiculous(especially in comparison to ESPN Zone-Anaheim). It is cordoned off from the bar area by a sound-proof glass wall that separates the room from the main bar. So, instead of being able to sit at the bar and enjoy a game on the big screen, sitting at the bar means that you are separated from the atmosphere of the large viewing room and instead have to watch on small screens at the bar.
I rarely write reviews so negatively, but given that this is a place meant for viewing sports, I would recommend simply never going there for that purpose.
***Review is for the gaming area only***
The place is too small. They're also pretty stingy. Their football game.... go and see how fast the timer runs. It's supposed to be a minute and 30 seconds or something to throw as many footballs through the holes as possible. The timer runs so fast that it ends in about 30 seconds. That's BS. The bowling game costs 14 credits. HUH? Freakin expensive especially when there is a Lucky Strikes in the same area. Why even bother coming here? Just go to freaking Dave & Buster's in Santa Anita. They have a better crowd too.
Between some ridiculously large TV screens and decent food, its a nice addition to Downtown. You need one of your generalized mass market sports bars.
Food is fine, not cheap, but it works out.
Some of the seating areas have movie sized screens to watch your game.
The real kicker, upstairs is the man's man video game room.
At least 3 games where you hunt animals, a mini-bowling alley, nascar games, racing games, motorcycle games, airplane games. Just manly games. Daddy Likes.
Anyway. It works. We needed one of these in LA.
I almost gave you 4 stars, ESPN Zone LA.....almost.....
But then I saw your "live" zone upstairs and it was so so so much smaller than what I had imagined. You are the first ESPN Zone I have visited, and I loved you the whole time, until your live zone resembled only a slightly more modern version for slightly older kids at a Chuckie Cheese....The bowling alley thing was cool, but other than that, it didn't really seem that special....
That being said, the hostess staff here is AWESOME. It was my dad's first time there too, and he LOVES sports and LOVES HD TV even more. So, a place like ESPN Zone which is basically sports and sensory overload was like heaven to him! Once I got him a Sam Adams, he wasn't going to move from view of their main TV area, plastered with TVs on every inch showing every sports game possible. I knew I had to go ask to move our name to a list for a table in that room, and that room only, which I knew would make our wait longer...
BUT the hostess was SO nice and I told her how amazed my dad was, that she sat us that moment!!! My dad couldn't have been happier--beer, big screen tvs, sports, and HD ha ha And their burgers are actually pretty good! And you can get them with a side salad with Gorgonzola and walnuts! Imagine that! At a sports bar! Or you can get a side of fruit! And their burger patties are FAT. I couldn't finish my whole burger, but my dad happily did :)
Want sorta good food, strong drinks, great service, and fun games? Head over to ESPN Zone in downtown Los Angeles!
If you're coming in a large group, I'd suggest getting dinner priority seating through the website. It doesn't ensure a table since they don't accept reservations, but if you can get at least half your party there on time, your table is pretty much confirmed. Even though half our party wasn't there on time, they were still willing to keep our table for us.
Our waitor's name was Eric and he was pretty amazing! Whatever we requested and whatever substitutions we wanted, he gave to us. He was very attentive and brought us drink refills before we even finished! The food was okay, I heard the ribs were delicious.
There's a drink with a glow-in-the-dark blue ice cube, not sure what it was, but I wanted it!
I was super excited for the arcade! It's very much like D&B where you pay for a card and then swipe that to play the games. There was a basketball game you can play competitively with 3 other friends, air hockey, bowling, 2-3 car racing games, dance dance revolution, motorcycle racing, dinosaur shooting, football, boxing, and buck hunting. They were missing House of the Dead, which made me a little sad.
Oh, and it closes at 12am on Saturday nights. I think I was expecting a little more from the arcade, but we all had a great time!
I've been to ESPN Zone Anaheim many times and this one just opened near Staples Center.
Headed here before the Lakers game....
I basically got a Chicken Salad and Soda and with Tip the whole thing cost me $20...pretty pricey if you ask me but the Salad was fresh...
The waiter was slow and this is before busy hours...
They had this stupid charge of minimum of $10 food/drink orders each hour per person...I dunno how illegal that might be...just like minimum bar tabs for credit card purchases is illegal...anyhow...cuz of convenience I will come here again....
went to ESPN Zone before American Idol finale and the service was horrendous! It took 15 minutes to be seated - we had reservations, and there were a million empty tables. Totally unprepared for the crowd - DUH! Really poor planning - not enough waiters was the explanation - WHY? Food was decent - took forever to get a drink and last but not least: no toilet paper in bathroom, no paper towels or toilet seat covers. This was at 1:00 in the afternoon. WHY?????
PS REALLY REALLY LOUD
I love sports, and I love Espn...but this specific Espn Zone just SUCKS!
- Food is AWFUL, and overpriced.
- Service is NON-EXSISTENT! I went in early Saturday evening, and the restaurant was half empty and it took our server over 15 minutes to bring me a bottle of A1 sauce! (Are you freakin' kidding me?!?)
- The TV's were ok, but the one's at Downtown Disney are WAY better.
I went with a party of 4 people, and 3 out of the 4 people were dissatisfied with the food, and all 4 of us were appalled at the horrific service.
If that wasn't bad enough to give this place such a crappy review, I had a few friends that went the following week, and they also experienced the same awful service that we did. If you're running a restaurant, hospitality is IMPORTANT and is key. Unfortunately, the management at this place just didn't get that memo.
Don't forget there's a few more places to eat at around Staples. Don't bother wasting your money here.
.5 stars
Lousy and overpriced food
mediocre service
WILL NOT VALIDATE PARKING - this cost 1 star
Given that I am not a sports fan a sports bar does nothing for me if the food is not good. And after an unsatisfactory lunch the last thing I need to hear is "I'm sorry but we don't validate parking here"
Started off with the artichoke dip with nacho chips that were too salty. Then came my cajun burger which was too salty and fries that were too salty. When I went to the front to ask to have my parking validated they said they do not validate and none of the restaurants do which I found odd since rockn fish did the day before and lawrys did a couple weeks ago.
Top 5 reasons to become an ESPN MVP:
1. You LOVE, not like but LOVE waiting for a table even though you reserved one online using your MVP membership in advance. When you do show up with your MVP card the hosts do not even care and still make you wait.
2. You enjoy mini basketball and air hockey because they give you a dollar's worth of free games. Wow... a dollar.
3. They give you no discounts on food and beverage.
4. Never receiving your card in the mail.
5. The joy it brings you to be part of the MVP program, the exclusivity, and the prestige... until you see the application in every table of the restaurant.
Despite all the shortcomings this is a great place for watch sports in downtown. You won't believe what the choices were for catching a game before this place arrived. Point Morera?
The Hosts need more training and more organization but overall this is the best sports bar in Downtown, BY FAR. Great wings, big screens, big mugs of beer. Nuff' said
Terrible service. It took literally an hour to get our food. We arrived just after 11am, weren't served our food till after 12:00pm, sat waiting for our check till 1pm... then actually had to get up from the table to get the check.
Also I rather enjoyed paying 12.99 for a chicken wrap that should have been priced closer to 5.99.
If you like sport sand you have to catch a game, this is a great place. TV's at nearly all the tables, TV's in front of the urinals. If you can't make it to Staples center, go to this place.
Pro: TV's galore
Con: The food is just whatevers.
If you like the taste of food or money in your pockets. I suggest somewhere else to dine at.
Me and a friend had the opportunity to come here recently, and let me tell you, this is a place to see and be seen. Not much of a restaurant or even sports bar. Just prime real estate directly in front of the Nokia Center, and just side of Staples Center.
Everything is, I would say $2 over priced from what would be expected at any normal restaurant. Pint of beer was $9/10, Pasta and entrees where like $17/20. And food was icky, we had a Alfredo dish, and apps. The apps tasted microwavable for some reason, hard and chewy on the outside, no moisture with in for some reason. The Pasta was over sauced and way too oily.
Service was great, that is, if you like being left alone and having to wave down the wait staff for utensils, refills, and the bill.
All in all, I'd strictly come here to drink, and gawk at people like the preying old vulture that I am. But if I was hungry and a little bit more frugal, Yardhouse a 2min. walk over would probably be a safer bet.
ESPN Zone is fine. I like their fettucine alfredo. The outdoor seating here was nice for people watching and looking at the way-too-bright giant ad screens of LA Live. It's really just a typical American mid-range chain - overpriced, not a very creative menu, but good food.
Finally a decent sports bar near the Staples Center. The VIP Margarita is great, its made with premium tequila. The grilled Steak Nachos are excellent as well. See the insereted picture in this review. There are 24 Panasonic HDTVs in the place.
I highly recommend it.
Great location, great food and drinks. Go LA.
I came here for USC's Program Board banquet yesterday. We rented out the private room on the 2nd floor, which comes with its own bar (very cool...). I walked in and immediately wished I was more of a sports fan.
The room was laid out like a private box in any sporting event: the walls are predominantly glass that overlooks the rest of the restaurant and the HD TVs. I loved the view from the top.
The staff was friendly. The food was okay, nothing special. I liked the nachos and salad more than the actual entrees. The brownies were too hard, and the cheesecake tasted too much like cheese (...if this makes sense). The food was mediocre for the prices they charged.
I'd rather jump over an open flame wearing gasoline soaked stilettos than visit this location again!
I'll keep this short and sweet. Service, Food Quality, Parking($20.00) all sucked! I would go into further details. But since going into details seems to raise my blood pressure, my doctor recommends that I keep it simple.
Came back again with a group of friends for the Laker game (they lost again, to ATL, that's twice I've been here and they lost) anyway, the round of Irish car bombs was damn near $60!?!?!?! WTF?!?!? We only bought 5 of them......
also see gabriel j's review ....... he sat to my right.

Stopped by for the Laker game (they lost to the Queens) cause I wanted to watch it on a huge screen.… Read more »
Never again.
First sports bar experience. Like the male equivalent of Sephora for us gals, no? Maybe? I guess being vegetarian and finding anything other than a UCLA game to be a chore should have made it obvious enough that this place was not for me, but my hunger told me to stfu and just do it.
Little did I know, it was also my lucky day, aka Laker game day!! Oh what did I do to deserve such fortune.. The place wasn't completely packed though since I saw some empty tables much like a previous reviewer, but I guess they do have invisible patrons because there was apparently still a 45 min. wait. Swell.
After wandering around a bit, we ended up sitting at the bar which had a few empty seats. Thanks to the fact that my friend and I could pass for the kids menu, the bartender carded us.. then carded us again 10 minutes later with some lame excuse that he wanted to see if their swiping machine worked. Suuure, buddy. I know we look 12. Whatever.
I ordered the Cajun burger with a veggie patty and my friend had the chicken tenders. If it weren't for dinner being the first meal of both our days, we would have been supremely disgusted. But instead, it was downgraded to mere mild disgust. Cold fries, my favorite! One upside about the food was the portions, however.. I was pretty stuffed to the brim. With trash, but still stuffed. Oh and the food took almost an hour to come out. Our bartender did check on it a few times for us though. And yay for an $11 corona.
More restaurants have opened at LA Live since, so do yourself a favor and try those. Your wallet and belly will thank you.
The Tailgate appetizer seems bigger on paper than in real life. The sliders meat tasted and looked like it was microwaved and the spinach artichoke dip was close to solid (should have been hotter!)
The plus side is that the tele in the booth lets you choose what you'd like to view.
The real downside was the waiter tried to put another parties bill on my card and neglected to even tell me about it until I had him show me the receipt he had in his hands. Having 3 gold cards is no excuse for that kind of mistake yo!
Next time we'll start at the Yardhouse and stay there.
This place is a disaster. It's so huge and the crowd is rowdy and the service sucks and the food isn't worth writing about. Do yourself a favor and go to another bar.
