AWESOME
eggs perfect
coffee spectacular
potatoes delightfully crispy
pancakes have a grand reputation, but were not mind-blowing.
staff awesome and friendly, surfing videos on the teevee
what more could I ask for?
Great food! The veggy options are the beat! Cheap too, service was a lill spotty but well worth the stop.
Service was good. Food was okay. Someone needs to tell the chef how to make the bacon. The bathroom is dirty - beware!
Esau's is a great little breakfast and lunch diner. It does offer patio seating off the the side, which tends to be more chilly than inside. They have a huge array of choices like the Loco Moco, which most standard American fare don't offer. The best item on the menu is the pancakes. They are so delicious. It almost taste like vanilla cake batter. The chicken fried steak is not that great
I used to visit Esau's back at the original location. Not very often, but anytime I was in the area during the morning, warranted a visit. Even when it was lunchtime, I'd always go for their breakfast. Now that there's an Easu's in Carpenteria, it's closer and much easier to visit, although I'm sad because I'm still unable to visit very often.
Took my fiancee here a few weeks back for lunch, and we split the Gnarly Burrito and a full stack of blueberry pancakes. The burrito was full of eggs, cheese, ham, sausage, and chorizo, and the pancakes were loaded with blueberries and nice, light, and fluffy. The whole meal wasn't hard on the wallet and we were both so stuffed that we didn't even end up eating dinner that night. The kid waiting our table was a bit slow in getting our order, but the food was quick to our table soon afterward. Esau's is a great local cafe, and I recommend it to anyone in the area who wants a tasty, filling breakfast.
Cute local place. The morning we went we made it just in time for the rush and didn't have to wait.
The pancakes are great!!! Nice large portions and the server was attentive and friendly. I will come back to Esau's for sure when I'm in Carp.
I was staying in carp at the state beach and woke up ready for a good breakfast so i drove down the main drag and found this coffee shop. from the outside it doesn't look to cool but once you open the door and you see all the orange booths and happy customers you will want to sit down a while. i had the ham and eggs and every thing was really good. i had a huge biscuit that was also great. my buddy and i both decided that if we ever roll back to carpinteria we have to go back. the girl that helped us was also super nice.
I "lived" in Carp for 9 months. Meaning I used my apt as an office to edit and I slept in Santa Barbara 9 out of 10 nights.
Why do I mention this? Because I barely went to the Esau's in Carp since I slept in SB, so I'm much more familiar with the SB one til they f'n closed it. I guess that was my sign to leave the 805. But man do I miss this place. Portions big enough for 2 people (we used to share a plate). Strong, good coffee. Mmmm the pancakes. Probably my favorite breakfast place for the actual food and not just the location.
Those who miss Esau's on State Street need not lament its complete closure - just take a bold step beyond the city limits of Santa Barbara and try the Esau's in Carpinteria. It can be a local hangout, it seems anytime I go there the other customers and staff all know each other.
The ham in the ham&eggs dish has never disappointed me. And if you're missing the cornflake french toast, they serve it here, too.
Big food, hot waitresses and cinnamon rolls.
Also, the best pancakes, anywhere. The coffee is good and strong, the jalapeno scramble is delicious, and when Rincon's breaking you'll see every ripping surfer in the county either before or after their session.
Get some.
Chilaquiles are outstanding and almost worth the drive from SF alone. Earlier in the week, the sliced bananas I asked for on my pancakes were overripe to the point of being gross (I guess stick to having the bananas smashed up in the batter). Hence the 4 stars... Be prepared for a wait on the weekend even in the off season.
Really good pancakes, really good coffee. Always kinda crowded, but worth the wait.
