Ethan is the man!
I have been coming to see him for quite some time and what I probably like best is that he tells me what he is going to do in terms of color--after all he knows what is going to look good and I trust his judgement. Then he grabs you a beer or a glass of wine and then gets to work.
The salon is way cool. Kind of artsy with a rock and roll edge. Everyone is so friendly from Pablo to the new cute blonde girl who works up front who is ALWAYS smiling and dancing!
If I ever leave PHX, this is a place I will truly miss.
I am honored to call E a friend and always leave the salon laughing after hearing some of his latest stories!

I love that I can go to her with some abstract descriptions of what I want (i.e. "I want to look hot") or still shots of made for TV movies taken with my digital camera for her to recreate and she knows exactly how to talk me through them, confirming what I want, making suggestions of what would actually work for me and then going to town. She's great to spend time with, takes notes of what we do and has a lovely way of inserting her opinion without being offensive yet witty.
I've followed her from the old e's to the new one and this place is top knotch. I love that the easy-to-miss front door reminds me of the scene from Willy Wonka where the hallway gets smaller and Gene Wilder plays "Rachmaninoff" to unveil The Chocolate Room...you have absolutely no idea what you're walking into and once inside, everything and everyone is a pure treat (Oompa Loompas not included) .
After going back a second time, I'm still impressed with Ethan. I like to take photos of cuts that I like and explain what aspects I like about them. Ethan is always very attentive to what I tell him.
After my last cut I decided I wanted to change my bangs after I got home. I called and they told me to just drop by anytime and he'd take care of me. When I stopped by it took him approximately 2 minutes to do what I wanted, and there was no charge.
I'll admit the cuts are pricey, but I know he's going to do a great job, so I don't mind.

Seriously, I can't understand why anyone would go anywhere else! Got my eyebrows done by Miss Ginger Mortis (yeah, she's a roller derby chick!) and the most fabulous cut EVER from Ethan. It's one of those places where, when you walk in, you get this funky vibe. I feel hip going there. I never use the word "hip." Today, though, I have to!
When summer comes, it's time for a new 'do. I have confidence in my stylist and just say "do something fun" and Ethan pulled through. It's also nice to see a place where everyone is happy to be working there.
Go. Just go. Now.

Tired of my vanilla stylist, I went here. I can't tell you who cut my hair, because he never introduced himself. I am (WAS) growing my hair out from a Victoria Beckham-ish short bob, and had some grown out mullety action that needed a little shaping up and pruning into something a little funky. THAT'S IT. I'm pretty sure I didn't leave that detail out when I was talking to Mystery Stylist before the cut. Oh yeah, and I expressly said NO MULLETS. You all may think they are cute and fun but I am too old for that shit even if I thought it was cute and fun.
How I ended up back to SQUARE FUCKING ONE with a super short cut with a FUCKING MULLET in the back is beyond me. Hello? Was it opposite day, and I missed the memo? This cut is a frightening blend of Kate Gosselin (that scary bitch with the thousand kids who's been on the cover of every tabloid for reasons I simply cannot comprehend) and grown-out skinbird. I have SUPER CURLY hair, and it's too short in the back to round brush and I can barely get a flat iron on it without burning myself.
I guess Mystery Stylist was too busy trying to hard-sell me a shitload of products I'd never heard of before to actually LISTEN to what I had asked for. I wanted to like you, I wanted to like the salon, I wanted to like the service. I even waited for a good deal of time after the actual cut to write this. I still hate it and I am still furious. I have not been this traumatized over a stupid haircut since junior high school. Thank you so much.
Ethan is a true master of his profession. He is a color guru and he really cares about each cut and color he does. He is a great listener and will let you know your type of hair cannot do what you are looking for and offer suggestions.
I have been going to Ethan for over 10 years. I have occasionally 'cheated' on him with other stylists but I always go back because he is truly the best! If you want great color this is your guy!!
So, I just moved back to AZ and was SO worried about finding a new hair stylist. We'll the hair gods were watching out for me and sent me an angel named Brittany! I walked out of the salon and literally noticed heads turning... I said make me look hot please and I told her how no stylist has been able to style my hair so that I feel comfortable going out right after. Well, she did everything I asked for! I looked so slamming that I almost want to go see her before every night I go out.
Thanks E's for having the such a talented staff! I already have sent one friend to Brittany(who loved her hair and is very picky) and my mom's scheduling an appt. This week!

I had a serious botch job done at a Paul Mitchell salon, I asked for subtle highlights and the girl gave me race strips not to mention all the highlights bleed. She fried my hair badly.
So after scouring Yelp, I found this awesome salon. Leya worked on my damaged mane. She turned it back to a solid color, put in a deep conditioning treatment and gave me a killer cut! I love it! I also walked away purchasing several products. My hair doesn't look or feel damaged.
This salon is definitely first class, they use top notch products, have top notch stylists and the decor is RAD! Love it! You also get a hand massage with your cut and color....nice!
Well... I guess it pays to not make a judgment until you've given something a couple tries... Got my second haircut here, and it was veeery uneven. It was so uneven that the next day, people at my work asked me "What happened...?" Lol There are worse things in life than getting a bad haircut, and everybody makes mistakes, but I don't like to take chances on my hair (I'm not vain, but growing out a really bad haircut can be painful). I won't be returning.

I have been going to Ethan at E's Urban Hair forever and I heart him!
He always gives me a great cut and color for a reasonable price, plus keeps my hair in style! I have pretty short hair and I highly recommend him for those of us without long locks as he is awesome with short do's! He also takes appointments super early (like 7am), stays late most nights, plus usually works Mondays too!
The salon recently moved from it's original location down the way between the bakery and Goodwill. It is a super eclectic space and is now a full service salon with manicures/pedicures, waxing, facials...you name it! They also take walk ins, but for Ethan, I recommend an appointment.
Love it!!
ERIN JOHNSON is the bomb! She is so friendly and gave me exactly what I wanted for my cut/color. You also get a hand wax while you wait. The decor is amazing!!! Wow. The whole experience is great, I highly recommend it. Reasonable prices too.
I visited E's Urban hair a few weeks ago to get some red in my head. I arrived on time, and was immediately struck by the crazy cool "Alice in a Funky Wonderland" motif!
After waiting just a short moment, I was greeted by Sherelle. She took me back to her station, offered me a beverage and then got down to business. I told her what I wanted; something a little cool, but something I could get away with in the Corporate American world. I wanted red in my hair somewhere, somehow. She got out a booklet that showed swatches of hair that were dyed. We discussed my hair color and how the color would come out on it. She made a few suggestions, but she wasn't pushy or nonchalant either. We made light conversation, but I didn't feel pressured to tell her my life story or anything, which is nice. I actually like going to a hair salon where there isn't a lot of loud conversation or gossip. Hey, chat away, but be mindful of the stressed out chick trying to chill out next to you! Sherelle was educational about caring for my hair and gave me a few tips to prevent breakage.
The result: Fabulous and pretty! My hair felt healthy and the color that she put in is great! I receive a lot of compliments from my corporate America counterparts as well as my rocking friends. I've already set up an appointment for a return visit. Sherelle was super nice and so impressive, how could I not become a devoted client?

I highly reccomend all of their stylists especially owner Ethan Murray and stylist Ambur Gore. Just be wary, they may make you look fabulous!
