Erik's Deli Cafe is located near OSH. It is actually right on the corner of Cottle Rd and Rochester Ave. There is a small parking lot in front of the restaurant, too.
I came here for lunch with a group of friends. There was a small line of people waiting to order their food. We quickly got in line to place our order. I decided to order the Pilgram's Progress ($5.99), which came with turkey breast and fresh avocado on a wheat bread. Instead of Erik's Secret Goo sauce, I asked for mustard instead. =) I also replaced the sprouts with lettuce. (See Picture).
The sandwich was made super fast!! When I was in front of the cashier to pay for my meal, my sandwich was in front of me..lol. I guess it only takes them about 3 minutes to make a sandwich. =)
We chose a table inside Erik's Delicafe to enjoy our lunch. There were plenty of tables to choose from. I liked how the tables are really clean, too.
The Pilgram's Progress was really good!! The wheat bread tasted soft and fresh. There was a lot of fresh avocado slices inside the sandwich. The turkey and fresh avocado combination was very tasty!
Overall, Erik's Deli Cafe makes great sandwiches. I love that they use fresh ingredients here. The service is really good, too.
This is the second time we have found mold in their banana bread and my husband's now off them even though they've been his favorite lunch place for years.
I ordered some wagon wheel trays for my son's birthday and it was a joke.

It's supposed to be like the first picture on that page, but the actual sandwiches were teeny tiny, little bigger than a bottle cap. It looked like toy food.
The option for soup and sandwich combo seems only to be Erik's. When the first stores opened, I was thrilled with the creative menu options like the "raging bull." as the years have past by, the food and service in all the expanded chains declines. What was my favorite deli is now a rare quick bite if only a big mac was the only other option.
Erik's is a pretty reliable sandwich shop. You can always rely on decent service, fresh food, hot soups, etc. However, as fresh as their ingredients are - I find their sandwiches a little too "boring" too get really excited for. However, they are close to me and can provide me with a semi-healthy meal on the cheap.
My family & I are fans of this casual deli sandwich place. We go almost every Sat after a good workout that we utilize their Valued Customer Card. After 10 sandwiches, you get 1 free!
My fav's the Abbott's Habit & Pilgrim's Progress sandwich and their Tomato Basil Bisque soup. My kids love the Tommy Turkey sandwich. My hubby can't eat meat for health reasons, so he always gets the Natural High or Del Monte Special sandwich. All the ingredients look and taste fresh!
Seriously?? I mean seriously?? Is this the only option in San Jose for a freaking half sandwich/soup combo? There's soo many businesses out here with tons of rich people and you mean to tell me that's our only option? That or Sweet Tomato that is...ekh!
Don't get your hopes up, it just gets the job done for lunch at a descent price.
I love this place. Me, my mom, and sister would come here after church on sundays back in the day. One of the few times we would actually sit down and eat as a family. My favorite so far is the Erik sandwich and clam chowder, surprisingly pretty good considering it is not fresh chowda. Also always got a bottle of cream soda yummers! Now that we go to a different church i just go here every so often with some friends.
The decor is nice very old. like a wood shack/barn. they have a lot of barn tools and what not was very interesting to look at when i was younger.
The service is nice, workers are nice.
The sandwiches are a pretty good size i usually get full from them. I recommend if you wana get a sandwich.
It's a good thing I already know and like Erik's DeliCafe because had this been my first experience with one; it's unlikely I would return.
Yuck, what a dive this place is! Stopped in for a quick lunch with my Mom the other day. Had my usual Abbot's Habbit and she got half a Reuben and clam chowder in a bread bowl.
Found an uncomfortable seat at a creaky table too close to everyone else and waited for the sandwiches while Mom ate some soup. Ick, everything around just seemed grimy and dirty. Sandwiches show up and mine is not a lot like what I am used to at "my" Erik's. The roll they serve it on is not nearly as good and that's often the best part about this sandwich! I'm disappointed; Mom eats some of hers and then we get a piece of carrot cake for her. Actually, that's pretty good and the only thing we should've eaten here today.
I won't be back here again. Too many other good choices close by!
I became a fan of this place since i tried the one in Cupertino. The square deal is such a great deal. You get a sandwhich and a cup of soup which is absolutely filling. The soup i usually order is the tomato basil bisque and it is really good. The clam chowder is good also but i just prefer the tomato one because its my preference. I get the turkey walnut pesto everytime i come and i have never tried anything else because this sandwhich is so good. It has everything a sandwhich should have in it; avocado, sprouts, tomatos, lettuce, red onions. All the components of a great sandwhich along with amazing soup! I cant wait to go back.
GREAT food, soup OMG good,
but WAY over priced.
I hope the Erik's Deli corp. people read this and I hope other people say the same thing so they get the point.
$11+ is WAYYYY to much to spend for a lrge (but REAL good) salad and a SMALL cup of (really good) soup. Give me a break, lettuce isn't that expensive and you buy your soup in bulk, right?
BUT - the service here has always been great! I ordered soup a while ago and since it was scraped from the end of the pot the girl gave it to me for free!
A++ for service
F for price
Perfect place to go when I'm in that soup/sandwich/salad mood (frequently!). The Raging Bull sandwich (roast beef with pepper jack), pasta salad (the best anywhere!) and house salad with house dressing always hit the spot. Plus, they have good pickles. If you get the soup and salad or sandwich combos, you don't get a pickle and need to ask for it, though. Soups are pretty good here too.
I find the quality consistent with other locations. Service is quick and there is a nice outdoor seating area where dogs are allowed.
2.5
Really really small sandwiches that are expensive. Most of the sandwiches here range from 7-8$. The definitely don't fill me up at all. The ingredients aren't special nor fresh enough to be that expensive. The portions should be bigger. Their only 'special' thing is the secret goo, whatever that is. It's just probably mayol
I rather go here [ http://www.yelp.com/bi... ]
The sourdough bread is freshly baked and the meat ingredients are fresh plus one half of the sandwich can fill you for lunch and the other half for dinner & it is just around 7$.
Erik's deli... I am a fan. I love their ranging bull, it's the best sandwich, besides there holiday sandwich during the Thanksgiving month. They have some good soups and great service. Can get crowded during lunch hours. Sandwiches made fresh to order. Their pasta salad is pretty good too. Prices are a little expensive but well worth it.
Sandwiches are pretty much my favorite food. I think this may be in part due to Erik Johnson and his chain of sandwhich shops.
Years ago I worked by one location of Erik's and I went through almost the entire menu trying every sandwhich. They are all fantastic and even customizable.
In the last year or so I've frequented the Cottle Road location and have always found it clean and relatively busy, but never crowded. The servers and the sandwhich makers are always friendly and ready to help. I really like the personal touch of having my sandwich delivered to my table without telling anyone my name or taking a number or anything. They kind of just memorize you and it's nice.
I think my favorite sandwich is the Pot Belly, which is cold pastrami and turkey breast. It always loaded with meat and satisfies me quite well. I've heard some people complain that their sandwiches are not big enough, but you can always order soup or a side salad too. I think the consistent quality of the food does justify the price of the sandwiches. I'll remain a loyal customer for as long as I can forsee.
I was craving a sandwich with alfalfa sprouts in it. Automatically, I think of Erik's Deli Cafe; plus it's right by my office. I go there and order the sandwich I always get... -1 for running out of the bread I like and -1 for NOT HAVING THE DAMN ALFALFA SPROUTS I had been CRAVING... UGhh. So I suck it up and the lady says, "i can put lettuce?".. Yeah, yeah... whatever... I just want my alfalfa sprouts......
I lived in San Jose for 6 years. If there's one thing I have noticed about this city, it's that there is a serious lack of quality and great tasting eateries. After my third year there my roommate stumbled across Erik's Delicafe. In my opinion it is really a 3.5 star joint, but im not allowed to give half stars so I rounded down (cuz sometimes I feel like being a jerk). The abotshabit (roast beef) is one of my all time favorites, but nothing holds a candle to the cross-eyed charlie (meatloaf). All the sandwiches are served with the house sauce, sprouts, and tomatoes. Over all the food is good, but over priced. The main reason it's 3.5 stars instead of 4 is because they discontinued the meatloaf sandwich (big mistake my friends). I have not been back since.
I have gone to 2 of these fast food holes and they are just horrendous. First of all someone should explain to these folks how to make a proper sandwich...ham and cheese, fine throw all your standard crap on it...but a Reuben should be made like a Reuben, none of your sprout crap none of your "goo"...I mean come on.
On top of that, any dining place that smells that strong of bleach has to be dirty, besides the fact that everything you eat and drink in here MUST be tainted with bleach.
As much as I hate TOGOs and Subway, they are better than these sandwich shops.
I'm a fan of Erik's Deli and was happy to stumble upon this one. Its close to my house and on the way home from work! I don't usually eat in at Erik's, I take it to go. I love Sweet Liberty and Pilgrims Progress comes in at a second choice for me. All of their sandwiches are flavorful and delicious. Their salads are okay as well as their soups. I go for the sandwiches mostly. The staff here is friendly and the place is clean. Pretty average Erik's but close to home for me.
I ate here for almost 3 years, and granted, I haven't been back in the last 8 months, but I can't believe it's any better. The chili was always cold, the sandwiches sloppy, the service slow...it just wasn't great. and was expensive. I never really liked anything I ate there. Over three years I tried it about every three months, and I eventually stopped going altogether and started getting the #25 at Sonny's Vietnamese a block away, which is consistantly good and has great service. Erik's = BLECH.
I work near by and eat there often. However, I don't love it. The hot sandwiches are all microwaved which turns the bread into mush. The baked goods always taste stale. I like the cold sandwiches and the soups.
Stopped in for some Banana Nut Bread and a bowl of chowder. It was busy in there today! But I still got my food quick.
