Review from Dee B.
The museum is not large, but I greatly enjoyed my visit. Then again, I'm maybe not your average adult, as I did spend a semester in grad school, in a master of library science program, thinking I wanted to become a kids' librarian. Although I quickly realized it was not my true calling (by the way, if anyone has any idea what my true calling is, please do let me know - I still have no clue!), the fact is that I still I absolutely adore kids' books, particularly picture books.
All of the exhibits (permanent and temporary) were great, and I did an amazing job in restraining myself and not spending 100s of dollars in the top notch bookstore. I did buy lots of postcards, though....Listed in: 4 days, 4 New England states

Kinda underwhelmed by the visit. It's a beautiful building and the concept of a picture art museum is great. We need to think more visually and the images in children's books are so amazing.
Honestly the bookstore is more interesting than the museum. The bookstore is small but filled will all types of children's illustrated books. I had a great time looking through these. There are some original works by Eric Carle on display in the museum, and I did learn something about Carle and his work. Was great to see these up close. Just would like to see more to the exhibits. The museum has potential. Keep at it.
If you have small children, there is a workshop area that might be very interesting. Call for information. Doubt that the two exhibit rooms will be of interest. Also, there is a place to eat but they do not serve food.
If you really really want to see the hungry hungry caterpillar, then go. It will be the best $6 you've ever spent. -

Yay! My 100th review! I took my daughter again to this place without her brothers (teenagers, who needs em) and she loved it. We went once when all the kids enjoyed it and I still think it is a good place for younger children. I like the wide open space and all the color. There is one area devoted to Eric Carle and then another area for a "guest" artist. They give the kids scavenger hunts to do. The library was a nice refuge when the girl was little and still nice to have down time in. The auditorium is wonderful. There is also an art room.
The museum shop is amazing, expensive but wonderful. Good luck getting out there without spending the kid's inheritance money!
If you are in the area, I think it is definitely a stop you should make. -
Review from Tani S.
Highly disappointing after having such hopes for this museum! The concept was wonderful, art from our daughter's beloved books. Since the pictures/paintings are presented in a gallery setting we thought it was a chance for our two and a half year old to appreciate an art museum experience. The space is open and modern but there were only perhaps four or five Eric Carle paintings in the gallery (he has written so many books that so surprised there were such few)... Yes, the art space was fine although they were stingy with materials (one project per person but the helper read that to mean one project per family) and the library warm but for the $9 per person admission cost I feel like one of the many gullible parents that brought their children here...
Once fooled but never again. -

This place is awesome even if you don't have kids of your own. They had exhibits of Eric Carle's artwork, Dr. Seuss, and other great children's books. They also have a wonderful auditorium where they put on free shows (when we went it was an electric cellist).
The gift shop is awesome as well since they have all these beautiful little things that you just have to get/add to your wishlist. And, if you do have children with you, the art room is so cool. They have people in there to help the kids get stuff/make stuff and there is a lot of space for their brains to create great pictures.
Definite must see no matter how old you are. -

We were all once children, and our world was incredible; filled with the fantastic and the imaginary. It is for this very reason Eric Carle Museum exists to showcase the art that has brings the imagination of those young and old to life.
I attended Hampshire College and would often come here during times of high stress. I would often shamelessly go and sit in the children's art room and make art. The people didn't blink an eye to a college kid struggling to sit comfortably in a kid-sized seat doing childrens art projects.
Not only is it the only museum dedicated to Picture Book Art, it is also one of most beautiful and unique museums in the country. If you are in the area or going to college in the area this is an absolute MUST VISIT. Be sure to pop around the corner to Atkin's for cider donuts and cider. -

The Eric Carle Museum is a fun place to stop by if you're in the area. It's a small museum with a couple galleries feature children's book illustrations, most notably Eric Carles. They have fun little activities like a scavenger hunt list to check off as you view the pictures (like find the 3 dancing mice, etc) and also an art room where you can create your own art! They also have a great gift shop (with totally affordable and cute stuff...not too common in museum shops) and also a cafeteria with chocolate chip cookes with a bite taken out by a very hungry caterpillar. A great museum for both kids and adults.

If you love children's books, if you love the Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar or if you love the illustrations by Leo Lionne you have to see this museum. Admissions is fairly inexpensive and if you have a student ID, you do get a discount. The artwork is incredible and is so rich in texture. I'm not an expert in art, but I was totally inspired and in awe of what I saw. The best part is they have a room that you can go into and make your own artwork using various materials, like paint, tissue paper, etc...

Review from Johnna M.
The Eric Carle is really cute, fun, and full of awesome memories. The problem is that it is really small and therefore not worth the money. It is sort of an in and out place for adults, as there are only three or four rooms. They have a lot of fun, crafty activities for children. The four year olds I babysat enjoyed the activities, not so much the pictures. The gift shop, however, is fantastic.

The Eric Carle Museum is a small exhibit, but features a lot of children's illustrators in one place. It is kid friendly, but fun for grown-ups, too! We had a great time!
