There's something for every yogi at Epic Yoga. They have a lot going for them, from the amazing teachers to the the pretty exposed brick in the studio. I've felt comfortable in their all levels classes, have tried yogalates, and attended their special events. They also often have $5 community classes taught by newer teachers and they are affordable on ClassPass. I volunteered here a few years ago with their seva program and it was a lovely way to get free classes through a minimum volunteer requirement of one shift a week! What's not to love about epic yoga?

I am an instructor here, though my review is definitely not biased. I started practicing at Epic when they opened over 10 years ago. This studio space has transformed my life. It is the most peaceful place to be in the city and their is such a variety when it comes to instructors, the studio is very inclusive to all humans. There is not one teacher that I don't recommend because they are all unique and wonderful. Can not recommend this studio enough.

I came here with a friend for a hot yoga class through ClassPass. The space is beautiful and serene. Upon entering, we were happily greeted by the receptionists who explained everything to us since we were newbies to Epic Yoga. The locker room is clean and stocked with any toiletries you may need. Although we brought our own mats, we appreciated the free mat selection they had. We actually opted to use those instead of the ones we brought because our mats weren't meant for yoga.
The room for the class was toasty but not too hot. People trickled in minutes before class time, which made the back much too crowded, so the instructor made everyone shift to the front to make space. I definitely thought there were too many people squeezed in the room and felt like I was too close for comfort to the other people in the class.
I forgot the instructor's name, but she was clear in her instructions and even gave alternatives and challenges for certain positions. It was good that she asked me first before adjusting my form because not everyone is comfortable with being touched. This was actually my first yoga class ever, and it was better than I had expected. I did not feel like a zen master or completely rejuvenated or anything like that, but I think I definitely strengthened my core and got a good sweat.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Meshi P.Mid-City, New Orleans, LA2103018May 17, 2022
Loved my experience here. The venue is beautiful and clean; Allison (the instructor) was awesome--she offered individual help as well as insightful yoga teachings in her practice. I was greeted really kindly and was shown around the facility. Would highly recommend.

Peaceful, safe, artsy, cool, and unique! I've been taking classes at Epic Yoga DC and recently went through their Yoga Teacher Training program. I highly recommend it! The space is unreal and the photos here don't do it justice.
You're in this super cool DC architecture building that has skylights in every yoga studio, with exposed bricks, real wood, and warm and caring teachers. I love this spot!
They're being very COVID-19 safe - checking vaxx cards and temperatures for everyone upon arrival (even though I've been there multiple times). They also have lots of sanitizing wipes on hand for props. If you're thinking about getting in your yoga practice again or even just trying it for the first time, would definitely recommend this spot!
They're very fair and kind people. It's hard to keep your business going and this is not a big, commercial studio.
I can only speak to my own lived experiences. As a Southeast Asian WOC, I have not experienced racism from the owner (a WOC), teachers, or managers. I have always felt safe. This place helped refortify my love for yoga and its roots again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Renae N.New York, NY1834Sep 11, 2022
By far, the best yoga studio I've ever been to. The teachers are so friendly and inviting; they made me feel super comfortable when I first started my journey as a yogi. They offer a variety of classes which is nice to balance more intense, advanced classes, with more relaxing ones. They also have classes at a variety of times which has been helpful to accommodate my crazy schedule. Lastly, the space at Epic is so beautiful! With three large studios.

I've tried one class here and enjoyed it. They have a reasonable locker room with showers - score!
The rooms are nice and calming too. My class was over packed, but it was a free promotional session, so, I'm not going to judge too harshly.
I think that my instructor's name was Paul? He was really great. I liked his all levels flow. He had flow combinations I haven't had before, which was fun and novel.
Overall, if I lived or worked nearby, I'd definitely consider using this studio.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 20, 2016
This studio has so much going for it:
-Great location across from the Dupont Metro
-Showers and bathrooms stocked with towels & toiletries
-Free mat usage
-Beautiful light-filled studios with exposed brick walls, some heated, others room temp
-A variety of classes (vinyasa, hot yoga, barre, yogalates, rooftop, etc.)
-Free Sunday community class with Rob
-Sign up for classes online so that you don't risk coming to a class that's full (a benefit over corepower in my book)
-Classes are usually not to packed that I'm on top of the yogis next to meHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 5, 2015
I like epic yoga for a few reasons but they definitely have room for improvement in my eyes:
Classes
There are hot classes and non-heated style classes. The classes do not seem to have a formalized structure but rather. But rather a buildup to the pose of the day to work on and improve a certain pose. I have signed up for class thinking I was taking a heated class which turned out not to be so descriptions could be improved.
Instructors
The instructors are hands on so if you are doing something wrong they will correct you by positioning you right. They do demonstrations of poses I cant comprehend yet without snapping my spinal cord but all the power to them.
Studio
Nice space with blocks, spray, and blankets available to the class. No mirrors but plenty of wall space for wall work to help with poses. The place isn't well insulated and can get cold. The instructors turn on the heater to somewhat control the temp. This heater continuously makes this clanking noise which is basically the opposite of what I am going for during a yoga class. It totally cramps my savasana. You know?
Changing Rooms
Complete with cubbies, and showers and towels provided. Bring your own body wash. Sinks for shaving (dudes only I presume) are separate from the changing rooms.

Because of the loud anti-zen heater I have to give this place 3 stars until that is fixed. I will continue to go (it is a convenient classpass location for me after-all) and happy to update my review when it is.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 1 - Jeannie B.Washington, DC7288Sep 24, 2017Updated review
I love Epic!! Finally broke down and bought a membership (which is a lot for a commitment-phobe like me).
They have a really great lineup of yoga instructors. they all have very individual styles though (which i like) but definitely check out a few to find out who's best for what you need.
Emma, the owner, is a wonderful, warm vibrant person and she brings that energy to each and every class I've taken with her. I wish i could start every day with one of her classes, but sadly my schedule doesn't ever seem to line up with her teaching schedule.
Rob is very straightforward, and he's particularly good for beginners and people with injuries. I've learned more about how to do a chaturanga correctly from him than any other instructor. He also has a very level-headed approach, so if you really more focused on movement and less on the mindfulness stuff, he's a great match for you. He also has a fun 80s playlist/pop playlist (i was amused when i played "I am a warrior" during his dancing warrior sequence).
Alex is a little more focused on the mind-body connection. I've been taking her soulful yoga class on Saturdays, and i really like how she sets up her flows. She also provides really great tips for more difficult poses and help you work toward goals.
Jess is also fantastic!!! very straightforward, flows that make a lot of sense, and she's just so sweet and soothing.
i haven't had a chance to take any of the other instructors.
Epic also provides free towels and mats mats (they are not in the the best shape, but hey they are free! i bring my own) and have showers etc. the water never gets super hot but hey it gets the job done and i get my yoga on before work.
Overall, if you are looking for a super pristine, chi-chi type studio, Epic is probably not the place for you. But if you want to practice in a more relaxed, completely unpretentious and welcoming environment with skilled instructors, definitely check it out.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Jun 22, 2016Previous reviewI love Epic!!
