EOS was a random find for me one brought to my attention by a Yelp deal, which I jumped at given the discount and the reviews I read about it as a birthday present to a foodie friend of mine.
Despite my friend's dislike for the drapes hanging near the entrance, I found them tasteful and elegant. Adding to that effect is a bar placed against the wall of the first room, displaying its appealing array of liquor. Combined with the candles on the tables and the low lighting, EOS creates a cozy feeling, offering a momentary escape from the drudgery of the day.
It is amazing to experience just how much food a 7-course meal produces. The consistent quality of each dish, small or large, only made me regret that my stomach wasn't bigger! Nonetheless, I was grateful to have leftovers because the food was just that good.
I'd give this spot five stars, but unfortunately despite its appearance it isn't what I'd call a fancy shmancy fine dining spot as you could walk in with casual attire and just plop yourself down. However, if you've read some of my other recent reivews you know that for me four stars is already top priase for non-fancy places and I recommend this spot to anybody looking for a culinary adventure. -

Sis, S.O. and I walked in here this past Wednesday for another random outing... it wasn't packed as we thought it would be on the restaurant side...so we got seated right away.
Ambiance: definitely date place since the lighting as all dimmed... modern decor... if you seat by the wall inside... the black wall isn't cushioned so watch your back / butt.
We ordered the following:
- Shiitake Mushroom Dumplings: It was good...tasty...plenty of mushroom but this had some kick into it at the end. Not spicy but a tad too much vinegar.
- Butternut Squash Risotto: this was the group's favorite dish! It tasty though we ordered it as a side but it came as an appetizer...
- Soy Glazed Kampachi: the fish was really crispy and tasty... fried quinoa, peanuts were a good addition... this tasted healthy.
- Soy Braised Chicken: we weren't fans... the taste didn't really go together with each ingredients and the taste looked as bad as its presentation.
- Tea Smoked Duck Breast: this came... and we all looked at it... and decided that we were going take it to go... the duck came like it was steak... reddish on the inside and the porridge that they said on the menu... was just rice...not the typical porridge that we Asians are used to... so beware!
As a group... we got full from the dumplings and the risotto. Their cooking time was way too long in between each meal and that got annoying really fast.
Please remember the following:
* cooking time = they TAKE their time so if you have plans after dinner... make a note of that!
* porridge isn't really porridge... its rice.
****Bathroom lock DOES NOT WORK! I thought I locked it but a guy walked in...so to the management... FIX THIS!****
Overall... we probably wouldn't go back here... just didn't leave on a good note. -

Got the Open Table offer - 8 course prix fixe tasting menu w/ a bottle of wine for two at $80, sounds like a great deal and I was looking forward to it.
We didn't make it there until the offer was about to expire, apparently that was the case for many because the night we were there - most people had some kind of deals having the same meal.
We sat at the main dining room as you enter, which I don't care for - at least, I was able to ask for a table closer to the back.
On the wine, you have a choice of a red, white or sparkling. We opted for the sparkling and the meat menu (the alternative was vegetarian).
Plus, the sparkling wine was kept chilled throughout the evening.
The menu:
amuse bouche - oysters on half shell w/ caviar - ok
wild arugula salad w/ Marin root farm veggies, brown butter vinaigrette - generous portion, not bad
Lemongrass crusted ahi tuna tower w/ crispy wontons, white miso - take a look at the picture, does it look like a tower to you? did not taste any lemongrass. it was basically seared ahi served on a fried wonton chip. not impressed.
butternut squash risotto w/ coriander-maple emulsion - rich - ok
herb roasted chicken over creamy grits, wilted greens - it reminded me of the crispy chicken one orders from Chinese restaurants, the dish they serve with colorful shrimp chips and a side dish of flavored salt? it was tender and better than i had expected but nothing to write home about
roasted organic brussel sprouts w/ chevre, honey and cranberries - had better
slow cooked pork belly w/ apple potato gratin, andante cheddar - this was the biggest disappointment of the evening, especially when this was the one dish hubby looked forward to most. it did not melt in the mouth as expected - instead it was a bit dry and tough.
ice cream sampler - 5 homemade ice cream in coffee, cheesecake, gingerbread, mango and jasmine. interesting - i liked jasmine best, reminded me a bit like green tea. -

Sadly I must back up the other reviewers who have said EOS had seen better days. I guess I should have known from the fact that lots of tables were available at 8pm on a Saturday - but there you are.
EOS today was a very odd contrast between delicious food (burger, tuna appetizer, pork belly, chicory salad) and inattentive, even clueless service combined with a very stark front-of-house. The waitstaff made basic errors like serving us way too quickly, not picking up all the plates, seating us next to a loud group who had had plenty to drink and already had their to go bag on the table (while 10 other tables were empty), being out of draft beer, and not even offering a dessert menu. Meanwhile basic maintenance had gone undone - there were etched graffiti on the windows, and in a few other areas you could see that the place hadn't been kept up.
We were told that EOS had a new owner, chef, and manager in the last year, which might explain some of the problems we saw. (Maybe this is why so many people came on Yelp deals...) Still, for $50 a head with tip I would expect better.
My suggestion: SIMPLIFY. If you can't keep up the tradition of 1990s vintage EOS, go with a more casual menu, clean up the place, cut the prices, and build a new reputation. You won't pay off your debt by trying to keep it the way it was - try something new. -

My wife and I stopped in here last Thursday night for a quick dinner after work. We live about 30 yards up the street. A sign on the door stated their credit card machine was not working so they were only accepting cash. No problem, we thought, we're probably among the few people who routinely carry cash in our "cashless society".
Since the place was EMPTY except for one pair of diners we were carry the above-mentioned cash, I thought they're going to be happy to see us tonight! I could not have been more wrong.
The host immediately asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. We were then informed that the restaurant no longer accepts "walk-ins" which I gather is the new term for people who have money and "walk in" a business in order to spend it.
I politely assured the snotty host that he needn't worry about ever darkening his doorstep, even though we live in the neighborhood we wouldn't be bothering him again. Clearly the new paint job has done nothing to brighten the business acumen or customer service of this hole. My only hope is that I live in the neighborhood long enough to see them go out of business. -

I have been coming to EOS for sometime now (over 5 years) and was looking forward to another fantastic meal. Unfortunately, something has drastically changed. Everything we ordered was NOT good. The dressing on the arugula salad tasted as though it had sand in it, the gnocchi was basically uneatable, the bread was stale, and the saddest thing was that the famous mushroom dumplings were not the precious gems they once were but instead large sloppy mushroom filled messes. We were truly disappointed.
Whatever changed EOS PLEASE fix it! -

Went here last night for happy hour with my coworkers so this review is just for happy hour.
I must say it was indeed a happy hour. I went with a group of 4 and we arrived a bit before 530 and they said they weren't open til 530 so we went over to Finnegan's to wait--no problemo!
The ambiance in Eos is exactly what i would imagine a wine bar to be. (Obviously i haven't spent much time in wine bars haha) The decor is sleek and clean. The bathroom is really trendy--I'm talking glass sink and a wall that looks like its just a staircase.... go there and you'll know what i'm talking about haha
So we ordered:
Wine (DUH): Seemed like everyone was happy with their wine. The waiter recommended a great white wine for me and it went really well with the food options we got. It was light, dry and some other fancy words to describe wine.
Oysters: Fresh, delicious, yummy! There was an oil-based sauce for the oysters that was perfect to enhance the flavor. YUM
Fingerling Potatoes: These were nice and crispy on the outside and seasoned nicely. I'm just not a huge thick potato fan so i wasn't crazy about these but I can still appreciate a well-cooked potato haha
***Shittake Mushroom Dumplings: HOLY FREAKIN MOLY. There is magic, crack, and unicorn dust in the sauce for these lil things. Everyone at the table immediately got doe-eyed at the first taste of these dumplings! It's a tangy sauce and so full of flavor. BOMB.COM!!! I would come back just for these babies. I looked like such an Oliver Twist scraping the last drops of the sauce from the bottom of the bowl with my piece of delicious crispy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside foccacia bread...."Sir, May I please have some mo'?" Not quite the most professional behavior for a dinner with new coworkers, but once I saw them do the same, I realized this is completely acceptable when eating a sauce this delicious!***
Hanger Steak: Just had a bite of the steak but it was sooo nice and tender, Well-flavored too.
Desserts:
Chocolate Molten Lava cake (I think they called it something more fancy haha) Really delicious and ooey gooey(yes that's a real legit term)
Salted Caramel Ice Cream: Holy moley that stuff was good! They served the two with some small slivers of apple so it was a nice sweet, salty/savory-ish, tangy combo in your mouth. NICE
Obviously we were stuffed after happy hour but it was delicious. I didn't even see the bill, but I'm pretty sure if i return it will only be for happy hour and for a glass of wine, some oysters, and the mushroom dumplings. Ok and maybe the salted caramel ice cream too...Listed in: Get 'Cho Drank On

In the past, I wasn't impressed with the service here. I never felt anyone really cared if I was there or not. But, they have a new bartender and I can't recall her name but she went out of her way to make everyone feel welcome. I find the food is too pricey for this economy but the happy hour definitely makes up for it. I will not hesitate to go back.

Went here on a special deal set menu adventure. Everything was pretty damn tasty.
Amuse Bouche (I don't care for oysters but my GF liked this).
Wild Arugula Salad
Marin Root Farm Veggies, brown butter vinaigrette (I loved this!)
Lemongrass Crusted Ahi Tuna Tower (tasty good)
crispy wontons, white miso
Butternut Squash Risotto
coriander-maple emulsion (yumm!)
Herb Roasted Chicken
creamy grits, wilted greens (nicely done)
Roasted Organic Brussels Spouts (awesome style but I was almost full by this time)
chevre, honey, cranberries
Slow-Cooked Pork Belly
apple potato gratin, andante cheddar 9not my fav but I don't care for pork belly much)
Ice Cream Sampler
5 homemade ice creams (this was perhaps my least favorite part but i liked the concept of small tastes on ice cream)
Service was good and the overall style was spartan and hence I was comfortable. -

To be honest it's been a while since I've been here but what I remember was fantastic service, a fantastic menu, and a fantastic neighborhood feel. I remember this dude wearing a t-shirt that said " I like offal!". If memory serves, they had a bone marrow dish that seemed very popular. Not my style, but hey, don't knock it...
The menu looked different in my recent visit to the area, but I can say if you are in the 'hood you can do a lot worse than this place.
I'll have to revisit in the near future! -

So I purchased a Yelp deal here awhile ago and last month the bf and I went to try this place out. :) first time we went, we drove and drove around for 30 minutes looking for parking but didn't find any so we just left and decided to come back another day. So when we did get to go... we took Muni instead. :) which made it more bearable. :) The Yelp deal was for an 8 course shared meal for two people that included a complimentary bottle of wine all for $80 (which was a steal). Our menu that night included the following:
Amuse Bouche: tonight it was tempura vegetables, this gets **** cuz i was really hungry when we sat down and these were delicous!!!!
Wild Arugula Salad: **** this was my first time having brown butter and boy was i suprised... sooooooooo yummy!!!! and i love arugula so it was a double win. :)
Lemongrass Crusted Ahi Tuna Tower: *** this was good too, but the tower wasn't really a tower???
Butternut Squash Risotto: **** i gotta say that this dish and the mushroom dumplings were mine and the bf's favorite dishes of the night
Herb Roasted Chicken: *** this dish was good, but i was starting to get stuffed so i wasn't enjoying this dish as much (saving room for dessert)
Mushroom Dumplings: ********* OMG.... total orgasm in your mouth we ran out of bread and I had to ask for another bread basket to eat up all the yummy sauce!!!! The server came by to take the bowl away and I was like... NO! i'm not done. lol.
Slow-Cooked Pork Belly: *** this dish was mediocre compared to the other dishes that i liked... but that could also be because i was so stuffed from the bread n dumpling sauce. hehe.
Ice Cream Sampler: they had guava, caramel brulle, passionfruit (i think???) and another one i can't quite remember... but all i do remember is fighting over the guava with the bf. :) it was that delicious
Conclusion:
Would Anne go here again??? Yes when she has more money cuz the price was a bit too hefty for me without the use of the Yelp deal.... but it was good... just be aware that it is on the pricey side here... n i felt the food was worth the price of the Yelp deal, not the price that they actually charge.... -

Update: returned to EOS because we got a gift certificate for Christmas. Things were better this time, better service and the food was improved. Surprisingly, the wine selection was pretty weak.
NOTICE: THEY CHANGED THE MUSHROOM DUMPLINGS! We've had them many times and they were definitely different. There were some thinly sliced pickled root vegetable in them which added a level of tanginess to the sauce and the garnishes were different. Not major changes and they were still very good, but important for people to know.
I actually liked the new seared ahi dish that replaced the tuna tower. It's very similar, a the crispy wontons were a bit saltier (which I like), though the tuna portion was pretty skimpy.
The new brussel sprouts with chevre and cranberries was very good, especially at the happy hour price of $5. Extra $3 to add bacon was worth it, but I'm not sure it would be worth the regular price of $8+$3.
We also tried the Soy-glazed kampachi with quinoa and peanuts. Eh. The bartender recommended it for its complex flavors, but I thought it fell flat. Maybe it just couldn't follow the other dishes we had.
All-in-all, I felt this return visit found the new EOS management/staff starting to find their stride.1 Previous Review: Show all »

came here for my birthday with le bf, never heard of this place but when we came to the area, I recognized Zazie's. lol
Parking was a bit hard...we circled for a bit, even with a mini cooper, not much spots to park in. but we got lucky and it was a tuesday..
the restuarant was cozy feeling, but the tables were all so close together, hearing other people's conversations wasn't that fun.
now when they recommend sharing 4 plates for two people, listen to them. haha
we were pretty hungry since we had reservations at 8pm. So we ordered more than we should have....like always.
We ordered:
the dumplings: of course we had to, and it was SO GOOD...kinda salty, but really good.
the pork belly: wasn't that great, I prefer the asian kind or even just the way my mom makes it.
5 spice sausage stuffed calamari- it looks funny but tastes good.
fried quinoa-...so i had no idea what this was, and my bf already chose the steak, so I decided to try something new...almost like a fusion bibimbap...but not as good. the quinoa...which is the rice grain thing was not to my liking. it was okay, a vegetarian dish probably...i'll pass
grilled angus hanger steak- YUM! perfect medium rare, yummy sauce...but yet again...just a tad bit salty.
no room for dessert! SIGH we never do.
overall very nice dinner, could come here casually, server was great. -

Got there at about 6:30pm and the restaurant was empty except for one other couple (could have been that OpenTable was having technical issues yesterday). As the place filled up, the volume went up considerably. Don't expect any conversations at a normal volume when the place is even a third full.
The ambiance was nice and the interior was spartan. Our server gave us a nice table next to the window and was quick and attentive. Immediately I noticed that for a "wine bar" they were REALLY short on wines. The only flight they had was a flight of three whites, none of which looked terribly interesting. They had a total of 10 wines on the menu and while the wines were great (their Gravity malbec was lighter, fruiter than most Argentinian malbecs), the lack of variety was off-putting for a place touting itself as a "wine bar". Outback has a larger wine list.
We started with the brussel sprouts with goat cheese, honey, and cranberry and it was heavenly. One of the best brussel sprouts dishes I've ever had. They were a little skimpy on the goat cheese; but it was light, creamy, and just a little tart. It was perfect with the rich flavors in the rest of the dish.
I also had the butternut squash risotto and found it to be rather bland. The risotto was well cooked, but the squash was a bit on the crunchy side and it needed more salt and perhaps some black pepper as well.
The pork belly on the potato gratin was tasty. The pork was well cooked, if just a bit on the dry side. The potato gratin was also a bit bland and at first I thought it was because we just had the rich brussel sprouts, but my date also found the food to be a bit on the bland side.
Overall, my expectations were high and I was slightly disappointed with both the wine selection and 2 out of 3 of the dishes. Our server told us that they were in the process of making some changes and should have more wine soon. I would definitely go back to try some of the other dishes and would absolutely recommend the brussel sprouts, even to those who don't normally like them. -
Review from Mari S.
I really love wine. So when my friend mentioned about trying this neighborhood wine bar in Cole Valley, I agreed immediately! And therefore, wining & dining at Eos Restaurant & Wine Bar was a must!
We came to Eos for a light meal on a Friday evening. I was impressed with the decor and style of the place. While a restaurant, it also holds that wine bar vibe, which I appreciated. Additionally, I liked the fact that it was centered away from town and the tourists, and more or less "tucked in" a neighborhood that's mainly residential.
First and foremost, we both ordered a flight of the Old World red wine. I don't remember exactly which wines were listed, but I do know we tasted about 4 or 5 different reds offered in this flight. Although I may not order the Old World wines again, I thoroughly enjoyed my tasting experience.
To compliment our flight of wine, we ordered the cheese plate - which came with a variety of cheeses, nuts and fruits. This was such a treat, as I really enjoyed pairing the various cheeses with my wine.
The service was good - nothing spectacular but also nothing negative. The prices are a bit on the higher end. Not too pricey but definitely not a "cheap date" kind of place.
I would love to come back here again to try more wine and eat more cheese! Maybe with my BF, who appreciates wine just as much as I do. I hope you are reading this, Reuben! ;) -

Got a Yelp Deal for an 8 course prix-fixe meal with wine, pretty good deal! We went for the meat option rather than the vegetarian.
Spanish Sparkling Wine. Cava Brut Reserve Gran Gusta. Alright wine, definitely have had better sparkling wine, but whatevers, it came with the deal so ya can't be picky!
Bread. With Olive Oil. Loved their olive oil, green olive oil = best olive oil. This olive oil definitely had a refreshing taste of good olive oil and wasn't acidic at all, extra good with nommy bread!
Oyster. Topped with Miso Sauce and Caviar. Amuse Bouche. This was nommy! The oyster was fresh and sweet. It was extra delish with the caviar. Noms!
Wild Arugula Salad. With Fully Belly Farm Melon, Chevre and Pistachios. This was super good!! I love me some arugula since I love how fresh and green it tastes. The melon and the pistachios were a nice touch, it added more texture and flavors to the dish.
Lemongrass Crusted Ahi Tuna Tower. With Crispy Wontons and White Miso. It reminded me of a ahi tuna nachos I had at another restaurant previously. Except this dish was much better here because the crispy wonton chips were actually freshly fried. This was alright, but I have to admit I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't actually a "tower." I expected something with more height to it. The tuna itself was okay, not horrible, but nothing to write home about either.
Crispy Chicken. With Potato Glaze and Plum Glaze. This was not my favorite dish of the night. The chicken was very flavored, meaning salty, but not very "crispy." It was also a bit too dry for my liking. I have a personal preference for moister chicken.
Sweet Corn Risotto. With Apple Salad. This was delicious! One of the best risottos I've eaten to date, flavor-wise. Ingredient-wise I was disappointed in the fact that they used canned corn. I mean corn isn't THAT expensive and with the prices they're charging I'm sure they could afford to use frozen corn at least, if not fresh corn. Skimping on ingredients makes me one sad panda!
Grilled Summer Squash. With Citrus Vinaigrette and Thai Basil Ricotta. This was really good, but super rich and since I was getting full by this course I wasn't able to eat too much. However, I love summer squash and I could tell it was really fresh. I ended up taking this home and my parents finished it in 5 minutes, just a testament as to how good it was.
Slow Cooked Pork Belly. With Creamy Grits and Stone Fruit Chutney. This was alright, also super rich and fatty. It was well cooked and very tender but by this point I was so full, I couldn't eat that much more and it wasn't THAT great.
Ice Cream Sampler. (Top to bottom) With Mint, Peanut Butter, Passion Fruit, Coffee and Coconut. This was nommy goodness! I'm usually not a fan of ice creams at restaurants for dessert unless they're either really good or they're a special flavor I can't get elsewhere. My faves were the mint and the passion fruit, the others weren't all that special. I usually don't like mint ice cream because I tend to think it tastes like toothpaste but this one didn't and it was really good, more like vanilla with a hint of mint. The passion fruit was also super delish, tasted really fragrant and fresh.
I thought their food was alright for the prices, I'm super glad I got a deal for it because I'm not sure I would pay full price for it. Food, by itself, was only worth 3 stars in my book. But their service was really good, our server was really nice and friendly, probably because we were the only table there at the time for most of the time we were there. Our server was really good at staging our courses to come out so that we weren't overwhelmed by food, so +1 star for service.

Food was variable in quality--from outstanding (tuna tower, flank steak, mushroom dumplings) to mediocre (risotto--way too rich; fish main--tastes heavy on vinegar). Food served too quickly for us to enjoy--and especially since many of the dishes are very heavy, you'd benefit from more time to rest between courses! We'd go back with a discount offer but only because we know what to stay away from.

I want to point out that the those delicious dumplings have both SAKE and PLUM WINE in them, and this fact is not listed on the menu. For health reasons, I should not have alcohol and was very upset when I realized I'd ingested alcohol.
Otherwise, food was mediocre, prices too high, and staff a bit snobby. -

Upsides: Posh environment. Downsides: food is over salted, small portions, $$$ ($11 for side of broccoli). The wine is hit and miss, we drank a French pinot which had a single note of sour grapes, no complexities, and a body so light that it tasted watered down. They should do better at $13/glass, I have had better at under $6/ bottle. If you are looking to impress a lady with a posh place tucked away in Cole Valley, then go here for a drink and an appetizer.

Casual, unpretentious, comfortable, and trendy. Friendly service. We had the prix fixe 8-course tasting menu and opted for the non vegetarian menu but substituted the risotto with the famous mushroom dumplings.
Amuse bouche was a shot of pumpkin soup with cream and crispy bacon nugget. Great, smooth consistency and flavor.
Salad was ok. Liked that pepperiness of the arugula.
Tuna tower was good. Crispy wontons and big slices of tuna. I would have liked to have had some heat to it. Tuna melted in my mouth. Yum.
Mushroom dumpling was delicious! Earthy and and hearty. Generous extra shitake in the thick broth. This is absolutely delicious! So glad they allowed us to substitute. My Fave!
The chicken course was ok. Chicken was not too dry, but to me it lacked flavor.
Brussels sprouts with cranberry, honey and goat cheese is my close second favorite to the dumplings. The brussels sprouts were not bitter. We ate the whole bowl and seriously wanted more.
Pork belly dish was good. I had a couple of bites since the husband ate it all.
The final dish was the molten chocolate cake with caramel beurre sale ice cream. The cake is decadent and rich but add in the ice cream and it is heaven!!!
Love the ambiance and servers were super nice. Place is comfortable- even saw patrons in jeans. And guess what? It's Michelin rated too!! -

Purchasing deals on Groupon, Bloomspot, Living Social, etc. is usually hit or miss. Sometimes the restaurant has great food, sometimes it sucks so horribly they need the extra advertisement to get you in the door.
We got really lucky with the deal we got at EOS, which is an 8 course tasting menu for 2 and a bottle of wine for only $80. Every dish was excellent except for the risotto. Great date night, plenty of good food to talk about over dinner (yes, we talk food while eating food...), great presentation.
If the deal came back around on Open Table, we'd get it again. :) Not sure if I'd go back for full price though. -

Sauce thief.
Consider yourself warned. You will want every single last drop of the exceptional shiitake mushroom dumpling sauce.
We were not paying attention. Lost in conversation and wine. Our waiter probably thought we were done. We were not. There was still a bit of sauce to soak up. Watching him walk away with the dish is a life regret.
Argentina malbec eased the pain.
As did a generous bowl of grilled summer squash with a citrus vinaigrette and ricotta sprinkles. Same with the fish & chips. Miso remoulade for dipping. Fried taro for enjoying.
Tea smoked duck break was good. Dipping it in the sauce was great. Needed more grilled pears either way.
Table was split on the lemon sorbet. I like the innovative flavor. Not so much across the way. More malbec please.
Space is perfectly modern with a loft vibe featuring track lighting you'll want all your own. I'd live here.
Service was friendly and food served relatively quick . We ended up refilling our own wine glasses. We might have been drinking too fast.
If only we could refill the sauce. -

Recently I have discovered that the mind altering effects of alcohol is not due to expiration but rather a drink made expressly to alter your perception of reality. It's no wonder mother hates the stuff. Mother basically hates fun, she says the devil lives in pleasure, to which I said, oh yeah? Then why do you have all those personal massagers under your bed, mother?? Oh boy, let me tell you, I got smacked real good for that comment, but I digress...
Anywho, spending all my time away from mother has allowed me to make friends with other people, because basically I've been starved for attention for the last 28 years of my life and my childhood friend was a table lamp, but I digress. We came to the wine bar for happy hour and let me tell you, the appetizers and drinks were deeelish! The sangrias were tasty, and so was the fish and chips. The cheese plate, on the other hand, was not filling, but again, anything is better than mothers grewl. A bit salty, but good.
I will be coming here with one of mothers hot bridge friends for dinner. She says goat cheese makes her farty and bloated, I just think its endearing. Wish me luck yelpsters, this golden girl doesn't know what's coming! -

A couple nights ago, I wanted to take my girl out for a nice dinner and I thought the perfect place would be EOS. I had been there before, but a long time ago...so I thought it would be nice to try again. I made reservations, but it seemed like we didn't need them for a Tuesday night. We were sat promptly and given the menu. The waiter suggested to order 3-4 dishes because everything was small and served family style. We were both starving (and can eat a lot) so we decided to go with 4 dishes. We ordered:
Mushroom Dumplings
Grill Squash and Zucchini
Sweet Corn Risotto
Fried Quinoa
Let me just preface this....I am not a mushroom lover, but I LOVED the mushroom dumplings..They were tender, melt in your mouth, pieces of heaven, laid in a sauce of magnificence! I practically licked my plate. Followed by the perfectly grilled squash and zucchini....It was tossed in a lemon herb butter with very mild yummy cheese. Don't let the small portions fool you...the food fills you up...By the third dish, my girl friend and I powered through the Fried Quinoa and Rizitto....The Fried Quinoa was a perfect blend of ginger and soy, topped of with a fried egg (which i thought was delicious).
All in all, I would definitely go back again after I am done digesting the first round :)! -

We've been there using a Yelp deal. It was a fixed menu of subtle cuisine with great wine. The place and atmosphere was the one of a nice wine bar, although quite empty. More animation at the bar rather than the second floor restaurant.

Two words: Dumplings!
But why'd they take out the little tomatoes?
Notwithstanding a major recipe change for one of their signature dishes, Eos remains one of my all-time favorites for tasty Asian fusion cuisine that doesn't require a two-hour wait or Jedi parking skills. Located at a convenient nexus of public transit (N-Judah, 37, 43, and the 6), just blocks from the Haight and the Panhandle bike path, Eos is easy to get to.
And good thing. The dumplings are orgasmic, though the recent removal of cherry tomatoes and substitution of celery root is perhaps the worst unforced culinary error of the fall. But no matter - brilliant brussell sprouts, righteous risotto, divine duck and other alliterative and irresistable dishes are constants on the menu, each with that je n'est c'est pas that defines the high end of dot-com era fusion cuisine. A stellar wine list tops it off, and Eos ups the value ante with routine flight offerings that give you a taste of three wines for the cost of about two.
All in all, Eos continues to deliver. But I want my cherry tomatoes, yo! -

So I believe that every place, person or thing deserves a second chance. That is why I returned to Eos for a second time.
The happy hour here is not worth wasting your time. The wine offered for happy hour tastes no better than the cheapest bottle at your local market; it isn't good. it's like they buy crappy wine just to offer it at the happy hour $5 price-major yuck. I expected more from Eos because they label themselves as a "wine bar."
Oh...and the atmosphere is BLAH.
Unfortunately, this place is in my neighborhood. I wish I liked it. -

Good food, good atmosphere. Horrible parking situation.
I'm coming back here though : ) -

You need the grace of Parking God to be able to find parking in the neighborhood without having to spend 45 mins circling around the block. Thankfully the Parking God had mercy on us - all of us found spots within 2 blocks of the restaurant (and while I know that driving 3 separate cars for 6 individuals who all live within San Francisco proper is a frowned upon exercise, the city's dire cab and public transport situation left us with little to no choice).
Anyway.
We got a 6PM seating - it was definitely earlier than my normal dinner time - but I was glad we had the early seating because the place started filling up right after we got seated and we were able to get our food out in no time AND take our time for the rest of the night. Eos is definitely not one of those restaurants that rush you out the door right after serving you dessert.
Our food (served family style, just as the server recommended) was great. I guess the only dish that isn't family style-friendly was the burger and fries, but we managed to somehow split the burger 6 ways (probably wouldn't ever have to do that again!) and everyone loved it. Thankfully the other dishes were a little bit easier to share: tea-smoked duck breast (very smoky, almost tasted as if they put in a dash of liquid smoke in there), grilled hanger steak (lovely, not as chewy as I thought), roasted pacific salmon (after a few failed attempts I now have an appreciation of how hard it is to cook a piece of salmon steak properly - overcook it and it becomes dry and flaky - these guys did it just right!), arugula salad and slow-cooked pork belly.
The desserts (also served family style) were amazing - the pear upside down cake was my favorite. It had just the right amount of sweetness and wasn't as rich as the chocolate molten cake - our other dessert (which was JUST as good). The third that we had was the ice-cream and sorbet sampler, which was 4 - 5 different scoops of ice-cream.... just because any desserts taste better a la mode.... -

The flavor of the food was fine, a little on the salty side, but the portion was too small and the presentation was not appetizing! We had the Open table spot light deal so the meal was worth its price as I was happy with the bottle of merlot alone, but food-wise, I wasn't too impressed. For me to drive all the way from San Jose to S.F. I expected a little more. We had to order extra order of dumplings because we were still hungry at the end of meal. The waitress was nice enough to allow us to make substitution w/o extra charge, and the roasted chicken was actually decent, it was tasty, but the presentation was a big issue for me, every time when a new dish was brought to us, it just looked like leftover to me...

Went for the $80 Exclusive 7-Course Shared Menu & Bottle of Wine for 2 Yelp deal. The most notable things were the excellent service (thanks again for making my best friend's birthday wonderful!) and the Shiitake Dumplings. They were nice enough to swap things between the regular and vegetarian prefix menus. We ended dinner with the Chocolate Molten Lava Cake which tickled then melted my tongue.

I love this cute little wine bar in Cole Valley. Such a classy and laid-back atmosphere, with an amazing wine selection and delicious small plates and entrees. I especially enjoy their "fish and chips" small plate, with homemade chips and basil corn fritters. So inventive and tasty!
A great place for dinner or a casual glass with friends. I will be frequenting this place often! -

Some of the dishes were great (risotto, Brussels sprouts) some ok (potato side, meat dish and duck - according to our friends). The vegetarian dish was so dreadful that we couldn't eat it. It should have been gnocchi in a red wine sauce. Instead we got small potatoes in their skin, cut in half, a few drowned rocket leaves and croutons thrown into a red wine sauce that tasted like pieces of charcoal had been cooked in it.

I came here for the first time on a whim because I wanted to try some place new and it just so happened that Yelp was offering a deal for 7-Course shared menu & bottle of wine for 2.
The server gave us the option of having either red, white, or a sparkling bottle of wine. When asked for her opinion, she said she preferred either the white or the sparkling wine, and when we couldn't make up our mind she was most gracious enough to poor a tasting of both the white and the sparkling wine for us. While both wines were good, we opted to enjoy our meal with the white, a 2009 Vinho Verde wine from Portugal.
Now let me just say the food here is outstanding. The chef(s) in the kitchen really understands how to balance both presentation, taste, and texture of each course that was offered. Even my girlfriend, who is not a fan of the texture of tuna or mushrooms, really enjoyed the Lemongrass Crusted Ahi Tuna Tower and the Mushroom Dumpings.
Tasting Menu Break Down:
Amuse Bouche: Oysters topped with miso sauce and caviar. I really enjoyed the combination of the fleshy oyster with the crunch of the caviar and the miso sauce rounded out the taste quite nicely. 4/5
Lemongrass Crusted Ahi Tuna Tower: Very fresh tasting Ahi Tuna. It is seared on the edges to give it a contrast in color, and the texture of it is again balanced nicely with a crisp wonton wrapper and is also topped with a bit of caviar and delicious miso sauce. 4/5
Butternut Squash Risotto: One of our favorite dishes from the night, risotto was very rich and creamy and packed with so much flavor. 5/5
Mushroom Dumplings: Heard from other Yelpers that this is a must order. Dish did not disappoint. Pieces were very tender and juicy to the taste, and the sauce was immaculate. I wanted to keep the sauce and soak up all the bread with its delicious taste. 5/5
Crispy Chicken: Very good, crispy and flavorful pieces of chicken prepared with an herb stuffing, potato hash, and charred figs. 4/5
Roasted Organic Brussel Sprouts: Not necessarily a fan of brussel sprouts, but they were cooked adequately enough and had a complimentary taste to them that had a spicy kick paired with little bit of honey. A very flavorful dish for those interested, but did not tickle my fancy. 3/5
Slow Cooked Pork Belly: Pork belly was very tender and juicy, but also very salty on its own, but when I tasted it together with the chutney and bed of grits that accompanied it, it improved in flavor and pairing dramatically. 3.5/5
Ice Cream Sampler: Sample scoop of 5 Ice creams which included, peanut butter, coconut, coffee, mint, passion fruit. Very straightforward, solid tasting, flavorful ice cream. Passion fruit had an delightful fruity kick to it. The mint, was very minty, almost reminded me of mojito, didn't care too much for it. My favorite was the peanut butter and coconut, good rich flavor in both of those.
All in all, I would visit this restaurant again, and consider it to be a neighborhood gem. I was very satisfied with their tasting menu and felt I got my money's worth. I would definitely return for the mushroom dumplings and risotto, and perhaps the chicken, or any other entree that looks appetizing. -

Mushroom Dumplings. I'm absolutely sure that many people have mentioned how exquisite this is. I went to EOS solely for this dish. This wasn't the only thing we ate but I assure you this place won't disappoint. Make sure you try the Dumplings & Crispy Chicken.
*Great Food
*Good Wine Selection (Wine bar adjacent to restaurant)
*Good Service
*Fun Dinner Spot

Completely agree with all of the reviews on this place. It is a nice place to go to with friends. I visited there last night for dinner with a couple of my girlfriends and had tons of fun. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The wine was delicious (we all ordered different ones and loved them all.) The food is yummy yummy in your tummy! The shiitake mushroom dumplings are to die for, I'd go back there over and over again just for these. We also had the Hanger Steak, butternut squash risotto, star route salad, chocolate molten cake, and the pear upside down cake. ALL DELISH! except for the chocolate cake, it was good, but I've had better.
This place gets 4 stars because the service is not exemplary. It took our server a while to greet our table, longer to take our orders, and did not recommend anything until we asked. The chocolate cake was OK, and the wine list is very limited for it being called a "wine bar". Oh! and the menu on their website needs to be updated because it has nothing to do with the actual menu in the restaurant. -

First thing...
We only take cash. Really? Would you like me to spend money here and how much would you like me to have to carry with me?
Most times we like to spend $60-$75 for a good bottle of wine and now you want me to take out a couple of hundred bucks? I dont think so.
The servers are very nice, helpful. The flights..three of them...not so much. One flight was two wines, while the others were three.
This is a wine bar right? No wine list just what is offered from the flight list.
We did have a dinner reservation then thought better of having to go to the ATM....again.
Great location....the rest. Eh.. -

The GF and I decided to try this last night as a change of pace. The food was great, the service was quick, and the wine was tasty. Of particular note was the side of fingerling potatoes which both of us agreed might be the best potatoes we've ever had. Amazingly crispy skin while remaining moist in the center.
The atmosphere is a bit lacking in my opinion, and I'm not at all a fan of the "bar" setup that faces the two tops so that you end up eating your meal staring at these people right in front of you.
It was a good meal, but at $100+ before tip for two it's also difficult to overwhelmingly endorse given that you can eat at Nopa for the same amount.
