This is a fantastic gym. Kind of hard to find (it's on the second floor of the building, sandwiched between two nondescript officey-looking spaces), but once you do, you'll love it. It's owned by this lady Robin, who is apparently kind of famous and has made her own fitness videos, but whatever. Fitness guru or not, she knows how to run a gym. It's bright, clean, and the staff really are energetic (especially Robin- it's almost frightening). I got a very detailed 15-minute tour when I expressed interest in joining, during which Robin stopped a personal training session, welcomed me warmly, and told the staff member to give me a free week trial immediately.

There are tons of amenities for members: the coffee's always on, the very nice spa on the premises has reduced prices for gym-goers, big towels are always available, and--my favorite part--there are magazines available for people waiting for classes to start. These little touches definitely make it worth the money (I was quoted $65/month, which isn't so bad, but then there's a whopping $199 initial joining fee) if you're a local. If you're not a year-rounder, however, that $199 initial fee kind of kills it.

The classes here, however, almost made me buck up the 199... they're really great. I took a yoga class that an hour and a half with a teacher who stayed an extra 15 minutes to help me and some others get into a headstand (I was sooo close). I also took a spinning class, which was with Robin, whose energy levels got kind of obnoxious after I had exhausted my thighs in the first ten minutes of the class. But then I took another class, Abs, Ass and Arms, with her the next day, and was much more able to deal with her perkiness (although it definitely helped that she said she was in a bad mood; it kind of brought her down to human level).

The views from the class room and the rest of the gym are fantastic- the windows look out right onto the bay. The space is so bright and airy. Also, another plus is that there are no meatheads lumbering around; the clientele here tends to be a little older: people who are just trying to stay in shape. Of course, there are also the beautiful models with huge-ass fake titties walking around, but at least you don't have to be afraid that they're going to hulk out and kill you.

I so wish that I were here year-round because the $199 fee would be worthwhile; alas, it's not in my budget right now. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone who has the money, though- this is SO much more worth it than crappy old hyped-up Gold's.
