I agree with Julie that Encinitas has some of the coolest parks in town. I drive by Viewpoint after work often and smile at all the dogs playing in the park since Viewpoint allows dogs to be on site at certain hours.
Moreover, with the addition of the new Encinitas Library next door, D Street and Cornish is one of the coolest intersections in town.
It would be nice to be able to enjoy this "dog park" without wondering whether the local cops are going to either ticket me again (when I actually had my dog on the leash) or haul off my JRT in a muzzle! I got the violation notice in the mail yesterday, the ticket is actually for $445!!! If you are going to visit this park, do not bring a dog...you will get plenty of privacy during times other than off-leash hours, the park is usually vacant or nearly so then.
What a disgrace...

The Encinitas area has some of the best little parks around and this one is no exception. Located in the Old-Town Encinitas section, Viewpoint Park is a nice place to relax and enjoy the day. This is one of the only parks that has a off leash dog policy on certain days so beware when you go or you might get run over my the doggie locals. There is cute playground area for kids and an overlook where you can find some privacy for a morning meditation.
This parked has also been booked for weddings and other gatherings as its makes a setting for such.
Off-leash doggie hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6am - 7:30am and 4pm - 6pm.
