15 reviews for Emory's on Silver Lake
Team 'Debacle' has competed in the trivia night nearly every Wednesday in the bar this summer. You can form a team of up to seven and @ 8pm for $2 a person you can square off against 5-10 other teams. Four rounds of fairly laid back, randomly categorized, general knowledge trivia. 1st place gets most of the money, 2nd place gets less, and 3rd place gets a rad thrift store 'mystery prize'.
-Kelly the trivia master is great.
-BrainTrust is so good that we often suspect collusion between them and Kelly (his wife and band mate are on the team), but really we are just jealous of how smart they are.
-Watch out for the 'Birthday Girl Bitches' who cheat with their cell phones - this has since been cracked down on.
-Cool and friendly people on all of the other teams (especially the girls on 'O-trivia Newton John'
-Solid waitstaff and great food (more below)
The food and drinks are great and until recently were extremely well priced. Recently they amended their happy hour and don't offer the full menu on Wednesday nights - presumably because the place is so packed for trivia. Instead the menu has less items at a partially discounted price and the rest of the items at full price. Boo.
Overall, the bar on trivia night is a fun place to be.
The dining room has great food, a decent ambiance and view, but is a bit pricey.
Let me start off by saying I've lived in the Silver Lake area since i was a kid and remember when the area now occupied by Emory's used to be a couple of old taverns. The taverns were knocked down and the lot remained vacant for a while until Emory's Seafood/Steak/Bar Restaurant was built in 1994. Most people welcomed the idea of a family restaurant right on the lake to replace the old taverns, especially a nice seafood restaurant right next to the lake which seemed very apropos. Not to mention the only lakeside dining at the time was Romios Italian restaurant and so having another cuisine option was definitely nice.
So when Emory's first opened it had a lot of things going for it, but right off the bat you could see that it wouldn't become your family's regular Friday/Saturday night neighborhood restaurant of choice. For one, undoubtedly the biggest turn-off for a lot of people was the outrageous prices. Granted it's seafood/steak fare in a nice lakeside atmosphere so you can expect the food and drinks are going to be pricey, but for a lot of people it became a place they went to only for special occasions only because it was just so expensive to dine there. Emory's owners eventually lowered the prices a little but even still today just by taking a look at their online menu you can see that the fares are still fairly expensive, especially the dinner courses which can cost up to $30 per person. Even the kids' meals are pretty costly (for example, $8 for a kids fish&chips).
Secondly, the food itself was and still is nothing worth raving about. I haven't been there in a while so i can't comment on how the food is now, all i remember is my food wasn't bad. Most people i know who have gone there with any kind of regularity say the food is fairly good and tasty for the most part. But some of them also mention meager portion sizes and/or poorly prepared meals and add that there much better seafood places to try like Anthony's Home Port restaurant on the Edmonds Pier or Everett Marina.
As for Emory's service i hear it's always a toss-up depending on how busy the place is. Judging by some of these reviews here it would seem that they do better serving people when it's busy rather than when it's slow. The last time i was there i had no complaints about the service -- it was average.
All in all when u pay that much for cuisine you naturally should be able to expect more but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case with Emory's. It's a nice place to go in the Summer and eat outside or admire the view of the lake from inside and a fun place for some with the bar and "Trivia Night" but for a lot of people especially in this economy it's not a place you'll go take your family to regularly on a budget. As such it's more of a restaurant for upper middle class folks and those who also like a white collar bar hang-out. As for the majority of us who are living paycheck to paycheck it's more of a "special occasion" restaurant or a nice restaurant you go to when you're just passing through. Myself, i'd rather go somewhere else and save my "special occasion" money for something that's actually special, and that's definitely not Emory's.
UPDATE: The place burned down last night. Don't know if they'll rebuild. I wonder if the owners were suffering financial troubles and had it burned down for the insurance money like in the movie Goodfellas. Either way i hope another restaurant is built there, a more affordable one.
I do feel bad for the employees who are out of work now, but at least some of them will be able to collect unemployment hopefully.
The place was turned into an all smoking section. Its closed due to fire.
Our party of 5 (and one high-chair) were here last night (4/25) and it was a terrible experience. All in all, the table ended up being pretty pleased with the food taste, but the service and presentation was BEYOND poor, and they didn't even seem busy.
One of our guests ordered the tuna sashimi as a starter, and I was very surprised by how thin and lazely they placed the pieces on the plate. My dinner entree was an herb cheese stuffed chicken breast and, while the portions were just right, the dish was incredibly salty. This made it pretty easy for me to put my fork down, athough it was clear that the chef has put some thought into his offerings. There is a lovely selection of plates on the menu.
Everyone else was satisfied. The Meditteranean Chicken was a large plate, but attractive. The fish and chips looked far too breaded for a true fish lover (and the fries were nothing special).
The service, though, was absolutely the worst. It took us over 2 hours to finally leave the restaurant and not a single minute of that was by our choice. The manager knew the kitchen had increased our ticket time, and told us house desserts would be brought out, but then it just started feeling like a hostage situation.
When I finally decided to ask to see the manager at the end of the meal, he came out as the free desserts were being delivered and asked me to explain, in front of my waitress, what my chief complaints were. It was awkward for everyone at the table (and probably my waitress).
At the end of the pricey meal, the manager gave each couple a $20 certificate for a future visit. I might go enjoy a salad at lunch time and just not return with another group. $20 doesn't begin to cover a 2 person dinner at Emory's and I'm not sure I would have the patience to go through this again.
This place has an awesome happy hour. Tons of food for only $3-$6. Be sure to order the nachos and the quesadillas, which are amazing!!! The cocktail drinks are $1 off during happy hour so they're only$6/$7 depending on the drink. I assure you that the drinks are pretty tall so you do get your money's worth. They also have cheaper prices on beer $3 and well drinks too. I ordered the Blue Raspberry Lime-Aide and it was delicious. I only suggest that you don't order the prawns with teriyiaki noodles....they weren't prawns....they were tiny shrimp. I have been here for dinner too which is also very good, but I a bit pricey for me ($15+). Oh! I almost forgot the best part! The view is beautiful, especially on a sunny day like when I went. The restaurant sits on Silver Lake in Everett and when the sun glistens off the water its very romantic. There is also outside seating so you can soak up the few sun rays that Washington has to offer. If you don't go for dinner, you gotta go for the happy hour.

It has a great view, but this place seems like it's out of the 1970's.
Came here after work for drinks and since I was late, it was quite awhile before the server made it back to our table. It was pretty busy though, so she was running.
Didn't think this place was anything special and it's in desperate need of a remodel. This might have been a hot spot for your parents, or maybe even your grandparents, but it isn't anymore.
Went to the bar after work. It was ok. Spendy. Service was very attentive.
Nice out on the patio when the suns out.
Inside seemed a bit "dated".
again, ok, nothing amazing but good for the area.
On 04/18/08 it snowed! Crazy! As I was navigating the flurries to get home, I got a call from my mum, asking if I wanted to meet her for Happy Hour at Emory's on Silverlake in Everett, WA. So I thought that sounded pretty good!
And I am ever so glad I did! It was quite amazing, although the snow made it even better!!
Silver Lake, is right off of the Bothell Everett Hwy, between Everett and Mill Creek. It sits on the southern end of the lake, and has a GREAT view of the Lake! Just beautiful!
This would be a great date place as well as a great place just to hang out! The interior was quite nice! I was wearing jeans and a polar fleece sweatshirt and it was fine, but there were other people wearing much nice attire, but it was not very pretentious, it is Everett all! High ceilings are a favorite of mine! And again the View is lovely! When it's not snowing and the weather is warm they have a very nice outdoor deck! Just fantastic!
I will definitely be back here for the food and the location, the Hours of Happiness are daily 3PM-6PM and Monday-Thurs 9pm-Closing. And the food was delightful! I stole one of the happy hour menu's!
The great thing about meeting your mom, aunt & Grandpa Geno for drink's is you can have them order for you, especially when your late and missing the happy hour! So they ordered Emory's garlic cheese bread (HH $3.50) Which was SUPER delicious! Also had Thai Lettuce wraps chicken (HH $5.95), Tempura Chicken strips (HH $4.95) AND some beer.
Well drinks and domestic's were $3.00 each, but I had ordered Manny's beer and it was $4.50 on Happy Hour, which is a little bit high for a HH price! I would say $3.00 would've been better!
The bathroom's were a little archaeic, but clean! And they did have tissue paper for sniffling, which is always a tasteful touch!
The power did go off 3 times, I'm assuming it was due to the snow storm and the lightning? But it was delightful!
And if I had stayed until 8:15pm they were having Live Music!
The biggest disappointment would be the parking situation, it is limited, although since I got there after happy hour had ended there were 8 available parking space's but, apparantly it was completely filled an hour earlier! So I would say that if you plan on going there with several friends, it be best to carpool! And if you come here for a date, then use the Free Valet parking!
This place is a worthy try at "fine" dining, and I mean it's in Everett so what do you really expect? While the prices seemed more you'd find in Seattle, I guess the water front location and view costs extra. By the way, once it gets dark outside the lake view is gone!
Our dinners were fine, the desserts were okay, nothing really worthy of getting me to come back to this place, not even for the view.
The night we went there was a very large party going on in the BQ room, what surprised me is it didn't affect the wait staff or the kitchen. Everything came out quick enough and hot but again nothing really wowed us flavor-wise.
They serve from fresh fish ala "sushi" to steaks. They even have sushi bar and "chef". The bar was hop'n and packed. Prices are a bit too high for what you get and they kinda lack true "fine" dining staff.
My husband and I, to begin with, shared the Greek Mediterranean salad which was delicious. I had the Grilled Northwest Salmon and my husband had Fettuccini with Chicken and Proscuitto for our entrees and both were excellent. Atmosphere was nice with a view of Silver Lake however it was pretty busy and service was a bit slow. Not sure if they were short staffed or it was just very busy. I will dine here again however, this time it will be during the week when the place is not so crowded. (also felt that the pricing was fair)
Not too shabby.
As far as Everett goes...okay, what the heck do I know, I am a Seattleite, and I NEVER hang in Everett.
However, grandma-in-law had a birthday and she lives in Mill Creek, and they love this joint.
I am not going to give you a run down of every little experience.
It is good, and a bit overpriced.
Friendly service.
The atmosphere is classy, but need some finishing touches.
I was shocked that there was a fancier restuarant in Everett! However Emorys was awesome. To start we had the crab/artichoke dip which was wonderful, I have never had such good crab dip before. I had the Scampi Jumbo prawns with garlic mashed potatoes, and wow when they say jumbo they mean jumbo!!! My friend had the Seared Pitaschio Crusted Ahi Tuna, some pieces were a little more burnt than seared, however it was still awesome. And dessert, boy oh boy you could not pass up dessert... I had some Grand Mariner Chocolate Mousse thing.. it was so rich and wonderful I couldnt even finish it.
Emorys is a little spendy, at least for me, its a place I'd go more on occasion than just on a whim.
Sadler took me to Emory's as part of a wonderfully thoughtful birthday coupon booklet that he made just for me. What a sweet boy he is. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered Emory's. The decor was more up to date than i expected. We got there early enough to have a nice view of the lake. It reminded me of Anthony's or Arnies in Edmonds. Everything was lake themed, obviously. We decided to do the 3-course set-price-dinner thing that so many restaurants around the area offer (they don't usually call it pre-fix at these more casual type of restaurants). I think it's a pretty good way to sample what a place has to offer, without paying an arm and a leg. We started out with mixed greens salads. They were standard. The ranch was tasty; the honey mustard was really delicious. Sadler ordered the prime rib. He had no complaints regarding the meat. The mashed potatoes served with were average: tasty but overly whipped and gray looking. He was not happy about the abundance of zucchini and squash on his plate and did not touch any of it.
I ordered the salmon. It was served with their house made tartar sauce, rice and veggies. Pretty standard again. I was upset when our waiter dropped off our food and took off. I don't think it's fair to diners to not come back within a couple minutes to make sure everything is how it should be. They forgot to put the tartar on my plate. I know some enjoy a nice piece of plain fish, but I don't. To me it's like making a big pot of mashed potatoes and not salting them. I always like a nice citrus type sauce or some kind acid to balance out the mildness of the salmon. Once the server was flagged down and my tartar was delivered, my salmon was very enjoyable. The salmon alone really did have great flavor, but the house made tartar was outstanding and made the salmon's pop. The rice served alongside was basically a curried rice-a-roni clad with slivered almonds and yellow raisins. It would have tasted better if it had not been cooked the day before. There is no way a fresh batch would come out falling apart and mushy as this stuff was. Plus we were one of the first to arrive for dinner that day, as it was only 4:30. It was disappointing because it really did have great flavor. I also had the generic zucchini and squash combo. I like vegetables, but these were nothing special.
For dessert I got the cheesecake. Soo forgettable. It was a small slice and I didn't even finish it; neither did I want to take it home. Somehow it was missing the cream cheese flavor. I didn't understand that. Also the crust was not good at all, and isn't that supposed to be the best part? Sadler had the raspberry sorbet. He enjoyed it, but I tried it and didn't think it was the best sorbet I've ever had by any means. I don't know if we'll be back to visit. They put my leftovers in foil shaped like a goose. I dislike birds, and leftovers from restaurants that are wrapped in foil.
Overpriced! You pay a pretty penny for the lovely view of the Lake. Darn that it might just be worth it for convenience. I have been driving by this place for years and knew mostly locals went which wasn't a selling point in Everett. But, the sun was setting and it all looked so PURTY! I couldn't resist at least trying it once. The decor is a throwback when plastic cotton padded tablecloths were IN. Not my idea of a fine dining experience even before sitting. The waiter was very nice, attentive and recommended the $30+steak. WHAT?! Oh you had better be so good you need to just melt in my mouth and have the ability to be swallowed without one chew. I ordered the manila bay clams as and the sauce was good with a strong butter garlic flavor. I was excited thinking ok that steak is going to be wonderful! I've found a hidden treasure amongst coals near home! YIPEE!
That poor sad steak arrived and I swear I doubled taked. It was served with EIGHT untrimmed string beans and a shred of old parmesan as the side. The steak was tiny and visibly not trimmed of fat.I filled out a complaint card and to their credit they sent me a gift gard and said they examined my plate after and agreed my dinner had sucked. Thanks for the kudos. I'll try again with the gift card.
