This is a place that makes me wish we had half star ratings available. I would have given it a 3.5. However, because my friends love it so much I rounded up, not down.
The other day some friends and I took a ferry over on our bikes and rode the chilly hilly course on bainbridge island. Afterwards we were super hungry and went to the vege house. My friends had been building it up a lot, and I don't know if maybe it was just one of those too much hype things or what, but it didn't meet my sweaty, thirsty, sore leg induced visions.
Well first, mike told me they took cash so I used all my cash at the ferry terminal instead of my card and I had to walk to find a cash machine. No big deal right? But I was really hungry.
I had a very hard time communicating with the owner. They work in a little tiny booth and there are two women cooking and one man (the owner) taking and relaying orders. I'm all for authentic food, and I usually never have a hard time communicating with waitstaff or cooks/owners of asian restaurants. I feel like I'm maybe being to critical but I really felt like it was excessivly hard to communicate with this dude. He was kinda rude during the ordering process and I saw him with several other customers acting the same way. Whatever.
So he brought out our food. My two friends got their food first, since they had cash at the ready, and my bf and I got ours a bit after.
We ordered:
Spring rolls- which were salad rolls, everyone liked these but wished the dipping sauce was better, maybe a peanut sauce instead of a soy-plum mix.
Mike got the duck, which he seemed pretty into.
Robbie got a veggie noodle stir fry and some kind of seitan skewer. The noodles were allegedly rice noodles, but they were pretty yellow and looked suspiciously egg-ie to me. And the only veggies anyone got were some broccoli and white cabbage.
Alex and I got tofu veggie dishes with brown rice. I didn't try his, it was basicly mine with bean sprouts... the sauce was tastey, and really hit the spot, but I WAS deleruiously hungry, but all in all it wasn't exciting. Brown rice, fried tofu, broccoli and cabbage for $7.00. Ehhh.
Overall I was underwhelmed. The owner did bring our food out to us and he was very nice then so maybe its just when he is in the hut that he's grouchy, it does seem kinda cramped.
My two friends kept defending the food citing the size of the space as an excuse. I don't think a couple of carrots would take up much more space.

I'm a vegetarian because I don't like meat.  The only thing to commend Emmy's--besides the speed with which food emerges, and the low price tag--seems to be the vegetarian "meat."  Gross.

I ordered the stir fried noodles and vegetables--pretty much the only thing on the menu without fake meat.  The noodles were a strange orange color and were weirdly rubbery.  The dish had absolutely no flavor whatsoever.  It was simultaneously disgusting and bland.  I traded with my boyfriend and ate his similarly flavorless fried rice, but drowned it in soy sauce first.  At least it wasn't weird and rubbery.

My boyfriend enjoyed his "meat" kebab, though, so I suppose that's something.

Why wouldn't ya?  This food is good, fast and as healthy as I want my fast food to be.  The folks that run the spot are very kind.  They are quick and they are very efficient.
Love the food, love the location.  Great place to eat on a cold rainy day and watch the folks run by....

Hands down, one of the greatest places on Bainbridge to eat. I've lived here my whole life and my friends and I are OBSESSED! Everything is delicious, a great price, and the owners start to remember your order!

I have to agree with the other reviewer about the fake meat--DISGUSTING! Even the meat eater that was with me thought the fake meat was gross and, overly salty. On the plus side, we got some nice fresh vegetables  and plenty of spice. The spring rolls were not so good, we had to remind them to bring them out, and they were served without any dipping sauce. The atmosphere was pleasant with outdoor only tables--perfect for a hot sunny day.  I'm giving this place three stars because the atmosphere was nice; the prices were cheap; the veggies, rice, and noodles were freshly prepared vegetarian; and the tables were clean.

Since I've been eating at BI Baker's almost everyday I needed something different!  The Vege house is a tiny lil walk up business with a nice lil covered outdoor seating area!  you probably wouldn't think much of it if it didn't smell so good!  Even the selection is pretty good!  What makes this place different from others is it's all VEGAN!! i'm not a vegan but it's just a great thought!  I had the Vege Ham with Steamed Vegetables and two eggrolls!!  If you ask anyone...especially my boyfriend....they will all tell you how much I do not like steamed Vegetables!  but WOW!  all they use is a lil bit of Sesame Seed oil for flavor but it makes all the difference!  I've also heard that the noodles are really good!  actually, I've never heard anything but good things! I feel healthy, happy, and full after eating here!

Vegan food so good you'll think you accidentally ate meat.  My favorites are the kabobs, the egg rolls, and the fake steak--it's how I fell in love with seitan.  Covered outdoor seating only, but nevermind.  Take your food down to the harbor and enjoy the view of the bay.

All I have to say is for a definite meat eater this is a vegan restaurant that I will actually crave.  For a small stand this place can fit a lot of flavor into it's food - definitely stop by if you are ever walking around down town.

Great for vegetarians and those intimidated by vegetarian fare. Considering the food is made in a place smaller than most people's showers...it's good. VERY INEXPENSIVE too.

Well it fooled me, I wouldn't have thought it wasn't real meat on the kebabs. Just yummy, never had a bad thing on the menu, I would eat here every day if I could afford it. Its not expensive its just wonderful.
