Specialties

I assist people in creating the environment they want through their architectural finishes and colors. I also do space planning and redesign.

With a background in communication and education, I consider myself to be more of a facilitator in the design process. I work very linearly, efficiently, and intuitively to help people create what feels like home (or for commercial jobs, their business image) to them--not me.

I am extremely efficient. I don't waste my clients' time, which also means I don't waste their money! I am very clear on my process to manage a design job, which I am certain is responsible for my success. This process not only ensures a beautiful end result, but it also ensures that the process goes smoothly from a budget perspective.

I got into doing this work through remodeling my first home and then building my second. I can't help but be VERY budget conscious and creative in my design suggestions.

History

Established in 2003

My first paying client hired me in the summer of 2003 after knocking on my front door and asking who my designer was.  As the mother of a 1 and 4 year old at the time and a public elementary school teacher, this was my dream come true.

I found designing and creating my family's homes not only a pure joy, but that I was also REALLY good at it.  In terms of budget, time, process, and final result, without a doubt, I had found my calling.

When I first got started, I would accept work in all aspects of interior design.  While I am very qualified in all of them, I realized I need to focus my business on those projects which were most gratifying and provided the most joy.  Therefore, I focus my work on color consultation and architectural design for kitchens and bathroom remodels and other construction.

After more than 6 years of being self-employed as a designer and color consultant, I am now more grateful than ever for how I get to earn my livelihood.

Meet the Business Owner: Emily L.

Emily discovered her inherent ability to create incredible spaces through remodeling and building houses of her own.  A labor of love creating homes for her three daughters, Emily knows firsthand the personal investment this process takes.  Through Color in Space, she strives to pass along that gift to everyone who desires their life to be as fulfilling as possible.  That desire starts at home and can be nurtured by it!
