This was my first time to Emilio's Cuban Cafe and to find a gem like this place earned the 5 stars on Yelp. The menu was dynamic with too many choices for my first visit. I ordered 1 half sandwich of the pork and onions and the other was a half cuban sandwich. I have eaten at a few cuban restaurants in Miami and Melbourne, FL and the both sandwiches and the plantains were awesome. Definitely worth visit. If you want flavors that keep building after each bite, definitely make a trip.

I've been here a few times and it keeps going downhill. The first visit was pretty good, the second was just OK, but the third was terrible. Mind you, I've had the Cuban with white rice and black beans every visit.
What happened??? That may be my last trip there. -

I have to agree with the previous review entirely on this one. The first time I visited Emilio's, the food was awesome. The service, kind of on the really slow side, but the overbearing waitress tried to make up for it with a very personable, almost in your face kind of service style.
Second visit, I ordered the same thing, which was the cubano sandwich, which is basically just half a kaiser roll with swiss, ham, and slow roasted pork, accompanied by yellow rice (you get a choice between that and white) and red beans (the choice is between that or black), and I was a little let down. The sandwich was dry, salty, and just kind of ehhhh. I got a larger portion of my rice and beans, but that wasn't really a good thing because the rice had this vague clumpy feeling of having just flopped out of a can and onto my plate. I mean, the rice was good, but it was supermarket good.
I was thinking the same thing as the previous reviewer, which was, "Where the hell is the chef?" but when I politledy worded that question to the waitress, she informed me that the regular chef was now back. I made an unintentional sound of disgust with my mouth, which she somehow took as a compliment of the regular returning chef. Oh well.
That said, the look of the place is very appealing to the eye. It's not too big, but feels spacious. It's kind of oaky in color and texture, and there's a nice big bar. Sadly, I didn't get a good look at the rest of the menu beyond the sandwiches, but after this second visit, I am not sure if I'll ever get a gander at the other half of that menu... -

I have been here several times, and I am always satisfied. More than satisfied...I'm usually thinking about the next time I'll be able to come back. Usually some of the best lechon asado I can get, and the picadillo is awesome. The service is always friendly, although you can call it slow at times. I know that they had some issues with a food vendor for a short time, but that hasn't been a problem in months.
Me gusta mucho! -

Wanting to try something new, my husband & I went on Saturday evening. While the waitress, Flo, was VERY nice, we were quite disappointed in everything else.
We ordered the sampler appetizer plate, and when it came my first comment was "they need to change the oil". All the food was a burnt dark color and tasted burnt.
My husband got the chicken with onions and I had the shredded beef. Sorry, I don't remember the proper names for these dishes. The side dishes also must have been from the same oil, because they were dark and tasted burnt. The plantains were limp. The beans were OK, nothing to get excited over.
What upset us the most is that we were charged for FOUR soda waters at $1.75 EACH!! We were NOT told there was a charge for refills AND half the small glass was filled with ice. Since when does a restaurant charge for refills and most do NOT charge for soda water!
I had 2 drinks, which I was pretty much talked into getting. The bill came to over $50!!!
We were very disappointed and will not be going back. -

Great lunchtime fare! Nice weekend dinner as well.
At lunch you can order a half a sandwich and rice for between approx $6-9, for dinner, you can get a full spread (meat dish, fried or boiled yuca, yellow or white rice, sweet or green plantains, black or red beans, Francesca sauce) for between $9-13. I always bring home leftovers.
Recommended entrees: ropa vieja, picadillo, lechon asado. From the apps menu: croquetas, papa relleno (fried potato stuffed with spiced beef). From the lunch menu: medianoche (cuban on sweetbread), croqueta sandwich. From the dessert menu: chocolate cake, and rice pudding.
They also stock Presidente, a Dominican beer that's sort of like a richer Corona.
The buttered sweet bread that comes with the meal is delicious, as well.
My absolute obsession at this place is the coffee though. They brew Bustelo and mix it with milk for a rich, sweet latte-style drink called cafe con leche. Or order an espresso shot cut with condensed milk called a cortadito...but beware the caffeine rush on that one. They also have fancier coffee drinks that are dessert-sweet and wonderful!
Flo who works here is really nice and friendly!
Worth a trip for certain! And for a date, check it out on Saturday night, they often have live music with a latin flair. -

So, the real secret of Emilio's Cuban Cafe is that it is a fantastic place for a weekend breakfast or brunch with friends. Their pancakes are the best I've ever had (and I've had quite a few, my friend). Their Cuban dishes are hit or miss. The decor here is warm, and the servers are friendly. Don't go here if you are in any kind of rush, though. Service is terribly slow, and something really should be done about it.

First time I went, it was great. My pork cuban sandwich tasted great, my black bean soup was yummy and plaintain was mediocre. Service is bit slow. Second visit...who fired the chef??? My pork cuban sandwich was overly salty and I couln't finish it. Black bean soup was still good (thank god). Service was even slower. I feel they needed some energy drinks. That is all.

When this place first opened up I was all over it because it was a new place to eat at for lunch. The food was fairly good with prices that were reasonably good. That being said, I've noticed an appreciable decline in the service and food since it first opened. The yucca fries for instance were fried to perfection on my previous visits and hung limply afterwards like a guy needing Viagra. It also appears that the serving sizes might be getting a little smaller, but I can't be sure about that. Regardless, I still enjoy this place for lunches as it's close to work and the food is fairly good.

I had a steak dish that was delicious. Too many potatoes though. Didn't like the yucca things. Great meat. No veggies.
