Hmmm...everyone has an opinion and mine is that I really do like the Tchoup Chop's fusion cuisine. From the time that I sat down at the bar to eat (yes, it was my night off from mingling with fellow conference people), I was pleased with the interior decorations (very asian/polynesian influenced with lots of blues, greens and GOLDS) and the service (the bartender was HELLA nice) She even gave me a take out menu so that I could type up my thoughts here on yelp about my meal!
I started off with the Steamed Pork & Asian Vegetable Dumplings
Sake-Soy Dipping Sauce. YUUUUMMMY. I sucked those puppies down like there was NO TOMORROW. The flavors were very reminiscent of my mum's gyoza. Garlicky, tangy (with the dipping sauce) pieces of HEAVEN.
Then, I ordered a MAI TAI and....let me just warn you folks, I don't remember what is in it, but it is sweet and pretty potent. Not really my type of mai-tai, but if you're aiming to FORGET what a bad day you had at a convention, just order one of those bad boys. WHOOOO.
Then, the lovely bartender brought out the complimentary SHRIMP CHIPS with a mustard AIOLI dipping sauce. The chips tasted right off the fryer and with the dipping sauce, it was absolutely DELISH. Yum, yum, yum. This from a girl who HATES shrimp chips (btw)
For my main course, I ordered the Thai Basil Seared Mahi Mahi
Edamame Fried Rice Cake, Roasted Vine Ripe Tomato Fumet. The Mahi Mahi was flakey w/o being too dry and it was not rubbery. I would say it was very well prepared. The only part of this meal that I was left disappointed with was the Edamame Fried Rice Cake, which became sort of mushy and lost the crunchy mouth-feel after being esconced in the Roasted Vine Ripe Tomato Fumet.
As for the dessert, which was a spiced apple cake, I think that was the weakest part of my dinner. The portion size was rather large, but the texture reminded me a bit of christmas fruit cake. It was probably not the wisest order on my part, since I'm not a fan of fruit cake.
All in all, I enjoyed my meal, my surroundings and being LEFT AT PEACE after a week long forced social interaction session on the work front.
The price of the meal...well, I think that it was over $50 (including alcohol, tax & tip).
I'm a fan of Emeril and I wanted to like this restaurant. Great ambiance, food was prepared well and looked amazing but tasted HORRIBLE. Miso soup, crab cakes, duck, scallops, and especially the rice were "off."
I would not recommend. Everyone was unhappy with their meals. Avoid Avoid AVOID! This was a big surprise, everyone who gave 2 star ratings were spot on. Stick w/ Emeril's for your Emeril fix.
The prices here are decent compared to the other Emeril restaurant in Citywalk. The food was pretty good, but I had a couple other issues with this place that only allow me to give it 2 stars.
Our waiter was kind of a douche bag and screwed up a few things on the dinner order. One of my friends food was cold when they brought it out. My biggest issue with this place is that I ordered the scallops and shrimp entree which everyone recommended that worked there. It came with a lobster cream sauce so I was sure to ask if they used fish stock when making the sauce because I am allergic to fish. The waiter wrote my concern down and said he would make sure with the chef and let me know if there any issues. Low and behold I got my meal and had an allergic reaction because the lobster cream sauce either was made with fish stock or there was some type of cross-contamination issue.
This is just stuff you should not have to worry about when eating at nice restaurants. When in Orlando there are many other great choices. Get in your car and drive to Seasons 52 two miles away.
It's a bit of a drive out to City Walk, but it's definitely worth it.
I started out with a green tea mitarito at the bar and it was quite good.
The endless shrimp chips with sauce is a great little starter. They have some great sushi, and pacific/ Polynesian entree's. We have been twice and enjoyed it both times. Fun atmosphere, only negative is that you have tourists rolling in in shorts, tshirts and flops-not really that type of place..it's nice but they are rolling out of city walk back to their hotel and don't really give a damn about their attire- don't get over dressed for the occasion.
My boy is a great fan of Emerils since we bought his his excellent kiddie cook book a while back. So it was great to see this place at the hotel we were staying at.
Full when arriving, we were ushered to the bar for a ferociously good and ferociously priced cocktail before our table was ready.
it's a beautiful, calm, high roofed room with a central lilly pond adding a zen feel to it all.
There's a comment in the box that it isn't kiddie friendly; don't believe it. An excellent, quality menu of not just the usual suspects of hot dog and burgers ( though the burger was the bam burger) The kids 9 &11 couldn't have been made more comfortable, though my daughter at 11 is someone who's idea of dinner preparation is making dinner reservations (ah, the old ones...) Great non alcoholic cocktails.
Food was good to great; from a slightly under spiced salmon starter to an exquisite almost meat like moo shu vegetable melange. For me the highlight was a sake tasting of three sake which materialized as 4 (woo hoo!) which made me understand the difference between high end and lower quality sakes. Wines are available by the glass and range from the predictable (Chardonnays and Merlots ) to the chancier unknowns (albinoni?? Sounds like a lesser known composer). Great experience, knowledgeable crew, and not too badly priced (mains $18-35 with most in the 20's).
i liked it so much I bought the T-shirt.
Top notch service. BAM!
Top notch food. BAM!
Really beautiful inside, too. BAM!
Prices are expensive, making your wallet go BAM!
Only thing I regret not saying inside this restaurant? "BAM!"
Hehehe that's right. How the hell did I forget to say that? Oh well. Maybe possibly it could be because I was there chowing down with Mr. Picky Tables!
Yes, my foodie buddy is soooo hella picky. We waited two hours even though there were 6 tables, no 8 tables that were open! And he just HAD to get us one by the fancy schmancy blue walls. "We gotta do this right!" he said.
I'd be cool with it on a regular day, but damn, my stomach was pissed off. Hehehehe. But it's all good. I was thinking, "Dang.. hope there is a method to his madness!" Hehehe.
So, note to all: Please book in advance if you have a Mr./Ms. Picky Tables in your party!
So when we finally go the sacred seat by the fancy electric blue wall, I was thinkin damn, the staff must hate us for keeping them working longer.
Au contraire, they treated us like king and queen! We had a special dish created by the chef himself. Some tuna salad variation served on a single leaf of lettuce and a sushi-like dish of raw fish on a tomato with some yummy sauce on top.
But first, they gave us a small treat to tide over our stomachs. Shrimp chips (with the puffy consistency of pork rinds and a light flavor of shrimp) to dip in some peanut butter sauce. Total Yumness.
Then, after the chef specialties, the first appetizer came out. We ordered the Polynesian fish cake. It came in some heavenly creamy sauce. Oh Gawwdddd... I loved this more than the entrees. Hehehe. Only one on our plate. I think it cost $15 or so. But every bite was just perfection.
We didn't get a chance to finish our appetizer when the main dishes were already ready. Foodie buddy ordered some steak dish (which he said was somewhat burnt, but I loved it) with mash potatoes and some awesome dipping sauce (kind of dark, but still sweet). I ordered duck with vegetables. (My friend who lives in Orlando said she liked the duck here, so I was curious.) As usual, whoever I was with ordered a better dish than mine. Hahaha. Good thing he was sharing. Woohoo! The duck wasn't very saucy, but it was nicely juicy. I ordered it medium well.
For our drinks, I ordered some awesome raspberry/ice cream drink (a.k.a. Mock-Tail) with chocolate shavings on top. I was in dessert drink bliss. My friend ordered the "best Mojito I've ever had in my life!" Indeed. His drink was very tastey. Possibly the tastiest Mojito I've had before.
This is definitely a romantic place to take someone you want to Wow! The decor is so high class with its frivilousness like the pond smackdab in the middle of the restaurant, the fancy shmancy electric blue walls, and fountain on the wall above the kitchen opening. That's right, you can spy on the chefs in there.
I am itching to return when I get a fatter wallet. Our bill was $100 for the both of us!! Lucky for me, my foodie buddy was hella sweet and treated me to this meal.
And one more thing, I got lost trying to find this place. Not once, but TWICE! An important note of location: this place is actually located inside the Royal Pacific Hotel off of Paradise Ballroom. When coming offa the exit from I-4 west, make a right onto Hollywood, and Paradise Ballroom will be one of the first streets on your right. If you have ended up in Univ Studios like I did, then you drove too far. =)
I celebrated my b-day here and we enjoyed it!
We did the Magical Dining menu and everything was delicious.
This was the typical Emeril's restaurant and reminded me of the ones I went to in N'awlins (mi fave there is NOLA restaurant). You could feel the "essence" of Emeril in the food....BAM!!! :D
My favorites of the nite were the lychee martini and the peanut butter chocolate cake! The steak was good, but I wasn't a fan of the bacon wrapping. The dumplings were delicious as well. The duck appetizer was not what people expected though..... OH and the upside down pineapple cake was warm and yummy!!! :D
Overall I enjoyed the dinner and so did my guests! THANKS
I took advantage of the $19, 3 course lunch via Magical Dining Month (aka Sept) here this weekend. It was gooooooooood. The service was excellent, the food was delish. My friend and I ordered different things off the menu and shared, which was good.
The mongolian bbq chicken app was my least favorite, the crispy shrimp lettuce wrap was awesome!
I had the steamed grouper in a bowl of veggies, udon noodles and Tom Yum broth. It was good, but my fish was a tad fishy. My friend had the macadamia crusted salmon with sticky rice and veggies. That was super yum.
Dessert... holy shit. Seriously. Option 1: Kahlua chocolate cake with a bittersweet ganache and peanut butter filling topped with pecan pralines and banana foster sauce. Option 2: Pineapple upside down cake with toasted ginger ice cream. Also an option, but one we didn't try, Thai tea creme brulee.
I liked the pineapple upside down cake better, because the other cake was over the top.
Even though the portions were kind of small, we were so full we couldn't finish dessert.
Why not 5 stars? We ordered mixed drinks, 2 rounds. Round 2 came out a bit late and was served in the same glass as round 1. For 13 bucks, that was disappointing.
Emeril's Tchoup Chop is difficult to locate unless you are staying in the Hotel. The decor is very nice and fits in with hotel itself. The restaurant consist of a open kitchen with counter seating overlooking the cooking, a large bar and dining room,
The menu has mix of seafood and meats and all very good. The food is definitely flavorful but very rich. If you have been to Emeril's you will understand what I mean. Portions are good size and great for sharing if you are in group. During my three visits I enjoyed all the seafood items and the duck
Wine list and cocktail selection are all very good.
This is a great place for a date, groups, families with older children.
The name did not live up to the hype for me anyways. Being one of Emeril's fame restaurants. WIth a asian flare. While visiting fl family decided to treat us to a dinner.
Overall the food was horrible the only semi decent, was the fried calamari as the appetizer.
the husband had the new york strip wasnt pleased at all
I had the ahi tuna it was undercooked
the cousin and his wife had miso soup with lobster with only one piece of lobster, and a kalua pork loco moco braised pork with fried rice and a hawaiin omlet
all in all our meal totaled at $225 dont waste your time
after a horrible meal/ service we didnt stay for dessert.
When Emeril sticks his name on the restaurant, I guess I expect a bit more. This Hawaiian/Asian restaurant has a new chef. The ambiance of the place was very nice. Hawaiian decor with a large zero edge lilly pond in the middle, the whole place is pleasing to the eye. Or it was, until one of the bartenders scurried up the long library ladder and pulled some stored boxes out of one of the bamboo recessed light boxes above the bar, then left them out up there! The drinks and appetizers rocked. The shrimp and the chicken egg rolls were outstanding. We tried a fish special, barmundi, and the house duck. The duck was so bland that they took it off the bill. The fish was also pretty bland. The meal picked up again with dessert. We had the Emeril signature banana cream pie, and a key lime napoleon with fresh fruit and a mango sorbet. The pie is a bit better in Miami, but was still awesome. The key lime napoleon was sheer genius. Pricey, but mostly worthwhile, and the service was not to Miami or New Orleans standards, but still well above what you received from the awful Emerils over on the Citywalk.
Definitely book a reservation, in spite of what folks here say. I was unable to get one last week when I was in Orlando. This week I got one by calling ahead. When I was dining, there were no seatings until 9:30pm on a Friday night in March.
Nothing really bad about it and the décor is fun - but the food is uninspired and not at all innovative. If it wasn't for the Emeril name attached you would not guess his (lack of) influence - and this cannot compare to NOLA and his other endeavours. Staff is very good and attentive, if junior. Again a good fun place with quality food but don't expect anything too special - especially based on name.
The place was gorgeous but the food wasn't. I was really disappointed by the food. I would not go there again. Expensive and the food really was close to being horrible. Just not what I expected. Don't go there unless you want o spend alot of $$$ and not be happy with what you put in your tummy.
Surprisingly mediocre. We read very good reviews online and were expecting great things. We'd just had dinner @ Casa Juancho in Miami the night before and honestly, the tchoup chop didn't stand a chance. The wait staff tend to hover - our table was visited by 4 different waiters which was not conducive to a pleasant, intimate dinner. Plus, they kept talking it up ("don't you love the food?, we're not perhaps the best but we are up there" .. were some of the wait staff's comments) & trying to sell you additional sides or a tasting menu. I think the establishment presumes that their clientele have no experience with gourmet dining at all which is rather condescending. Both the snapper and the mahi mahi were quite bland and unimaginative."
Expensive, but very very good. Everything was awesome from the chips/dip opener to the crab cake and dumpling appetizer to the sushi to the dinner to the desert. My 4-year-old loved the chicken fried rice and my wife loved everything also. Good for the kids too. They have a great kid's menu with all of the normal stuff, but we didn't order off the kid's menu so I'm not sure how the food is.
I had wanted to give Tchoup Chop a try after reading reviews and having already visited Emeril's at City Walk. I called on the way to the restaurant and had no trouble getting at table at 6pm on a Friday night. The place is decked out very cool and hip with this neat vanishing edge lily pond in the center of the space and a soaring ceiling with thatch accents, bamboo and cargo nets draped about so you feel like you are in another land.
Service was spot on. There isn't a bad thing I could say. We told our server that we had tickets to Blue Man Group at 8pm and would only have an hour and a half to eat (It is a relaxing, scenic 10 minute walk to City Walk from the restaurant). Our food came out quickly and we had no trouble ordering pre-dinner drinks, apps, entrees, and even dessert in about an hour. Literally when our empty glass or plate was there it was swept away by one of several servers. Our water glasses never got more that a quarter empty. My chair was pulled out for me when I returned from the restroom and napkin laid out for me.
Food was mostly good and is why Tchoup Chop doesn't get 5 stars from me. The food that was good was REALLY good but then the rest was just OK. The fried "Styrofoam" that you dip in a peanut sauce to start is surprisingly tasty. We were brought a pre-meal morsel to try, as our server put it, "To show our appreciation for locals". It was some kind of pastry with goat cheese and a balsamic drizzle that was chewy and just didn't taste good. We ordered 2 apps: crab cake and pot stickers. The pot stickers were a big disappointment but the crab cake was delicious. For entree I had the scallops which were huge, the size of golf balls, with lobster risotto. Although the scallops were cooked well and the taste was great I would occasionally get some grit but it wasn't enough to keep me from enjoying my dish. My companion had the pork which was a little bland and dry. Dessert was a peanut butter chocolate cake that was decent but not anything special.
There are a lot of good restaurants in the Orlando area which is probably why this hidden place isn't more popular. If you've never been it is worth a visit. There are just so many options to try! If I am in the vicinity of City Walk again I would definitely go back, I think it is the best that area has to offer. Yes, even better than Emeril's.
Excellent! I went one yr for my Birthday, and another 3 times after. Love the decor! Great for dates, groups, etc. Not so much a family place which is sometimes nice not to have children running around in Disney. The Salmon in ginger-soy sauce is excellent if you like fish! I would also recommend the pan roasted Filet Mignon w/ chili oil. Can't go wrong here. Overall an excellent dinner choice and by far one of the most upscale and delicious restaurants around Orlando.
BEST meal of 2007. All I can say is WOW. My in-laws who live in Altamonte Springs took us out for my husbands b-day while visiting. This place floored us. We didn't know what to expect but boy were we pleasantly surprised. After an adventurous year of traveling to various beautiful places including the California coastline LA to Napa we had to go to Orlando to find the best meal of the year. I so wish we had a Tchoup Chop here in Atlanta. The food was impeccable. The service was a tad bit slow only b/c it was peak holiday party season so it was forgivable. We highly recommend this place. The atmosphere is very hip but not stuffy. It's a little loud at times but that didn't bother us. The pond/fountain was beautiful. Lots of water elements in the room made it very soothing. I'd got back in a heartbeat and not even care about price.
I thought the food was just fantastic and inventive with its Polynesian twist. We started off with an order of crab cakes for an appetizer as i am a huge fan and we were not disappointed at all. Our dinner entrees included the double cut pork chop and the seared ahi tuna..oh so good. As part of our dinner date, we decided to have wine with our meal. Our waiter recommended a Chilean red that was fantastic. I would of given this place 5 stars, but we felt a little weirded out by some of the managers that kept hovering all the tables like vultures with no smiles. I made a comment to our kick ass waiter and he agreed that it took away from the fun atmosphere.
So this review is only about their dessert, because that's the only I had here. I came here w/ a friend and they were no longer accepting people for dinner, but they said we could sit at the bar and have dessert. I thought that was nice. Let me say Emeril's Banana Cream Pie with Graham Crust, Caramel Sauce, and Chocolate Shavings was perhaps the best pie I've ever tasted. Died and gone to heaven......The piece of pie was big enough for like 3 people.
Lousy food, good service. We had three servers at our table so we had speedy service. However, the food was terrible. The fish was tough from overcooking; the Hawaiin Combo plate was too sweet tasting; the chorizo potatoes didn't taste spicy like chorizo should; the kalua noodles had almost no meat in them. Also, half of the dishes brought from the kitchen were cold! The table next to us had similar problems and sent their food back twice for being cold and ended up leaving without eating. This is unacceptable for such a pricy restaurant; Emeril should be ashamed.
What an amazing restaurant! I was able to make reservations very easily online instead of calling ahead. My trip to Orlando had its issues and I was running late.. I managed to call ahead to inform them that my reservations for 8pm were going to run later. They were so kind and bumped my time up. Considering I had a sought after table it was amazing that they allowed me to do so. Thank god for valet cause I was running late.. I ran to the doors with boyfriend towing behind. When we got there.. there was no other guests as the restaurant was ready for close. What a disappointment as this was the one restaurant I wanted to go for our anniversary. The hostess spoke with the chef and amazingly enough the chef allowed us to come in. We had the WHOLE place to our selves. The atmosphere was incredible and the staff even more so. The food is prepared so well and after you fight the urge not to destroy the master piece.. you get an orgasm in every bite.
I could have easily pitched a tent and never left.
This restaurant gets my two kisses on the cheek review. Perfecto.
Yum...their cuisine is fresh and creative. The restaurant is always packed so reservation is highly recommended. Their appetizers are fun, different, and just like their entrees; always changing. The food is wonderful without a doubt especially when you can taste the fresh ingredients. However, the most impressive part of this dinning experience is the absolute high level of service. I first ate there five years ago and I request the same server ever since. He is now one of their manager, but he recognizes us every time we come (we are only there 2-3 times per year). In fact, he remembers who my guests were and what was ordered, impressive. For special guest, they will offer a complementary custom set of appetizers. Their specialty drinks are pretty good and the servers' suggestions are very helpful. If you are really lucky, once in a blue moon Emeril will pop in and work the kitchen, so he could be making your meals. If he is there, if you can get a bar stool set into the kitchen, that dinner and a show. You won't go wrong!!!
Emeril's Tchoup Chop is a hidden gem nestled in the Royal Pacific Hotel! We also tried Emeril's signature restaurant located in CityWalk. Tchoup was hands down the best meal I had at Universal. We had the crab cakes and barbecue rib appetizers to start followed by the miso soup with lobster. My main course was the roasted lamb shank. The fried rice was awesome. For dessert, I had the chocolate cake. Everything tasted delicious. Service was OK, a tad slow.
Seriously Emeril - get it together!! I've had plenty of amazing meals at his restaurants - Delmonico's in Las Vegas is an absolute favorite of mine. Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about his joint down in Orlando. Nestled down inside a gorgeous resort hotel, Tchoup Chop lacked everything from taste to freshness to overall quality. The lemonade was TAP!! Are you kidding me?! Emeril has a tap (or a 'mix' possibly) lemonade?! It was horrible. We started off with a Dumpling WonTon of sorts, but the poor things stuck to the bottom of the bamboo serving tray and everyone had to wrestle, tear & rip to get them even out & onto their plates. They were clearly undercooked. The Calamari with Feta Cheese was the most rubbery piece of squid I've ever had the displeasure of eating. Seriously. Just awful. Miso Soup with Lobster - disappointing. There was so much oil sitting as a top layer on this soup, I couldn't even bother trying to find what little 'Lobster' was supposed to be in it. Taste - mediocre at best. My main course, which I was very excited about (and definitely the best part of my meal) was the Kalua Pork Loco Moco. A slow braised Pork over a Hawaiian Style Omelet and Emeril's Fried Rice It was great, but the omelet was browned and slightly burned. The pork and the fried rice were delicious, but in the end, couldn't make up for the overall experience.
Service was great in the beginning of our visit, with 3 waiters all introducing themselves and coming around to make sure we were ok had no questions and had something to drink. Then came the food. It was terrible 2 of 3 dishes were sent back. The pork was so overcooked my arm (seriously) was getting tired trying to even cut the first bite. Another dish we had was a curry-style dish. And most people know that curry is very flavorful. But this dish was bland.
So we wanted to send the 2 dishes back, but those 3 attentative waiters were no where to be found after we got our food.
The appetizers were ok. But those shrimp crackers they serve at the beginning are so oily.
I can say I will never be an Emeril fan since both his Orlando restaurants have disappointed me in their food. They are just overpriced with nothing to back it up. It kind of makes me question all the food network chefs skills now.
The service was wonderful but the food was very bad! Everyone in my party was very disappointed in the food, it was undercooked or overcooked it was really one of the worst meals all of us ever had which is interesting as all other Emeril restaurants I have been have have been supurb. Also noticed the table next to us sent there food back not once but two times and then refused to have anything else. To bad with the wonderful people working there that the food could not be up to par to match.
