What do you do when your 4 month vertically challenged corgi puppy decides to scoot off a tall sofa & land on his pelvis?? the emergency vet clinic @ ohlone!

The area this clinic is situated in is very nice, near the 680 freeway. The staff are super friendly and they do examine the dog very carefully. I had a lot of printouts with detail instructions on what to do with the dog for the time afterwards. John Rutherford DVM even gave me a cd of the puppy's digital xray & explained what was going on. (which is the coolest thing ever). Though the only minor complain is that the estimated invoice versus the actual was about a $200 difference. Then again who can estimate before they actually examine the dog?

But sadly, the silly dog only sprained his hip, so then $500 worth of vet bills did not exactly made me all excited the day after 4th of july ... but at least i found out it was only a sprain! =)

Excellent staff, great communication. Prices may seem high but in reality are completely in line for a emergency clinic.....
Special thanks to Dr. Lynn :-)

Prices here are outrageous, but when it's late at night and you don't know what's wrong with your pet, this is the only place to take them at midnight.  My cat was not moving well and was acting very miserable one night (limping and not walking properly), just not the way he usually acts.  He's getting old and unsure what's wrong with him and seeing that he's in pain, I took him here.  After a couple hours of  x-rays and fluids and pain killer shots and meds and a bill for $850.  There wasn't any broken bones or anything, my cat is fine, and the next day or two he felt better.  3 stars for being the only place open at night, but not anymore stars for the crazy prices.  If you feel that you can wait to take your pet to a regular vet the next day, I would strongly advise you do that than to take him to an emergency clinic.

This is a great place for emergency care.  Tremendous facilities, great staff and Dr. Stockton provided first class treatment.  As noted by my fellow Yelpers, this place ain't cheap.  Otherwise, I'd give five stars.

When you need their help for your pet, I'd go here in an emergency without any hesitation.  It is money well spent.

We took the O-dog for a nice jaunt last weekend at Coyote Hills...and guess what?  He got a foxtail stuck in his paw.

This didn't surface for several days, so it wasn't until today, Saturday, that we decided we should take him to the doctor. We usually take him to another vet, but lately they have been trying my patience.

The young lady at Ohlone who answered my call told me that the wait would be about an hour, so we might want to come in later (to avoid just sitting in the waiting area, as opposed to our home).  About an hour and a half later we headed over, with only one person in front of us who happened to putting her pet down.  We didn't wait long for the vet to see us.

He was friendly and professional, assessed that he likely had a foxtail and also told us how we can prevent them---Otis has a lot of fur, his paws should be cleaned up before we go into foxtail country.  He also "got friendly" with Otis to ensure he was comfortable--which I thought was good.  The doctor used a local anesthesia and complimented Otis for being so calm.  He then went to work and pulled out the little bugger from his paw.

A little non-toxic eye ointment was applied, which he said is ok for Otis to lick (and that he likely would lick himself back to normal).  So, he's all good to go.

I see that others have not had positive experiences, especially around cost.  My thought on this is that if you have to go to an emergency service, then you will be paying for this after hours service--just like being admitted to the hospital for yourself (ER fees are higher).  Ours was close to $200--but the assistant was upfront that it was $88 for the visit, and other costs for medicine or procedures that might need to be done.  My suggestion is that you get pet insurance...it has helped us recoup some of our costs for a few other visits he's had in the past.  And it is my feeling that this will likely happen again, due to Otis' fur.

I would still recommend this place over American Animal Care.

Professional care, great lifesaver.  Emergency, day time visit, and night care are all in a place.  They are the SPECIALISTS.  Also was called "Veterinary Internal Medicine Service."  Their patients are the pets with serious conditions.

The owners could visit their pets during the night/mid-night by appointments.  The nurse will bring your pet to a private room for you to be with them as long as you want during the treatments.

The price is the reason I tak one star off.  Hospital-ICU day care is $386/day,  ICU-standard overnight is $550/night.  Therefore, you have to prepare to pay it all in order to get your pet out of the clinic.  They did provide some programs for you to apply to pay the fee installmently.  You have to be qualified for that.  So, your credit score plays an important part here too.

the night i found a dehydrated stray kitten i rushed her here to see what could be done.  the girl at the desk was so rude to me, and i had to wait almost an hour with a wailing kitten before the doctor came in.  she told me the kitten had an eye infection (i'm not a doctor and i knew that) and that she was dehydrated (duh!).  they kept suggesting that i put the kitten down because she didn't take to the bottle the first time they shoved it in her face.

i walked away with almost no new information and a $400 bill.

i had to take her to a vet again in two days because she was still dehydrated.  on a second opinion i found out she had parasites, and that it is common practice to give strays a pill to de-worm them on their first visit.

huge bills for terrible service and inexperienced "vets".

not thanks to them my kitten is doing well, i persisted with the bottle and she made full a recovery and is now part of the family.

I was helped by Dr. Hettler.  She is very professional, and gave us a lot of information.  She was concerned about making sure that our pet was not under a lot stress, and did not hate his trip.
Being an emergency clinic, we had a long wait.  However, it seems that they are aware of the wait (I could overhear their comments about the waiting patients.  They will prioritze based on the seriousness of your pet's condition.

This hospital is a lifesaver in the middle of the night.  The vet was fine and the diagnosis was right on the money.  However, the prices were astronomical (that is the reason for the 3 star)!
