+++ well laid-out rooms, sporting neat touches: couple lcd screens, way comfy armchair(s), business desk. bathrooms ample enough to host parties in.
+++ free breakfast that by all rights ought not be free... customizable omelets, ample amounts of breakfast staples as well as fruits & sugar-bombs (cookies & muffins.)
++ free happy hour drinks from 5 to 730 @ the bar! can get completely hammered, for free.
++ large, immaculate pool & relatively well-equipped gym both available for those trying to work off the free breakfasts & cocktails.
- vaguely corporatey feel to the entire enterprise--ample presentation facilities used for conferences. not a terrible thing--but i imagine vacationing folks aren't in the mood to see gaggles of suited, laptop-carrying types flocking to & fro.
- staff is very nice but on the HURR DURR side. i wouldn't trust anybody i've met there w/ a cattle prod, if you know what i mean.
- doors that don't allow you to lock them from outside unless you insert your key. wtf? i don't appreciate the assumption that i'm stupid enough to lock myself out, embassy suites...
- price reflects accommodations.
- located next to a theater/concert hall, so every now & then you'll end up running into a maelstrom of cars either heading into or out of the parking lot next door.
summary: niggling details aside, this place is good bordering on great. very neat facilities for not a whole lot of money--as long as you make sure to capitalize on breakfasts & drinks.
The Marin Embassy Suites is a perfectly adequate motel (hotel?) for business travelers and their companions. I don't really know why anyone would be in the area except for business, but hey, not my call.
Actually, the Embassy Suites is pretty nice. The staff is all very friendly, saying hello and asking how you are whenever you pass. There is a nice, gurgling (and heavily chlorinated, by the smell) koi pond running through the lobby, a restaurant/breakfast area, an indoor pool and a fitness center (with the nice treadmills! with the TVs! that I didn't use!).
The room was clean, and we got a view of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed civic center, which was nice. I ordered room service dessert /wine (it was such a long day) and the lava cake was A) expensive and B) more like a lava rock. I still ate it because, hi, it contained chocolate and fat and came with ice cream, but it wasn't really "molten" or anything. The guy who delivered it though was really nice...
The bathroom was a little funky. Don't mean to get personal but the toilet sounds like a gun being discharged when you flush, it is so loud! The walls are thin, so you can tell when your neighbor is showering, or other. Water pressure in shower is weak! And the little toiletries are ehhh...
Breakfast served beginning at 6:30 and was plentiful. Made to order eggs, fresh fruit, lots of bread products, juice, coffee station, oatmeal & toppings, yogurt, etc, etc...
Check out was easy done right in the room
An overall pleasant experience but the whole lack of privacy thing with thin walls is a bit disconcerting.
Overall, I am content with the Embassy Suites Hotel in San Rafael. The staff at this location were very accommodating.
The rooms -- and its bathrooms -- are clean. As with a typically Embassy Suites room, the bedroom is separated from the living room/work area.
The room service is average and overpriced -- which is typical for most hotels.
As with other Embassy Suites, there is an afternoon reception -- in which free drinks and snacks are offered -- and free breakfast. The breakfast is good.
Further, parking is free.
Also, you must pay for Internet access. Internet access is about $10 per day.
When will hotels stop charging for Internet?
Additional Notes:
- Enjoy the (very slow) glass elevator.
- There is a Coy pond in atrium of the hotel.

NOT SAFE! DO NOT STAY! My mother and father stayed there over a weekend in September 2009. They were there for a wedding in Marin where all of the guests were staying. My mother and father went to the wedding. While she was gone someone broke into her room and stole her purse. They charged $3,000 on her credit cards. When my mother reported that her purse was stolen and requested to see the security cameras. They said they did not have any cameras. Also management was not helpful and did not seem the least bit concerned that it could potentially be one of their employees or that their guests were put at risk. When my mother called back the next day Embassy Suites did not have record of the report my mom made with an employee. San Rafael police were helpful.
Management was unprofessional and insensitive. Do not stay here... you risk the chance of getting your belongings stolen.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael last month. Out hotel room was broken into and many things were stolen from our room. When we reported it to management they were very insensitive and unprofessional, not at all helpful. They sd they would call us and try to assist and never did. They have no security camera's and limited security at best.
We filed a police report and the San Rafael Police have been very helpful.
I would not recomment the Embassy Suite San Rafael it is unsafe.
As former Mariners on our first trip back in over a year, I agonized over where to book for our five night stay in the Bay Area. We wanted to be close to our favorite Mill Valley restaurants, needed to commute into the city for job interviews on two different days and were traveling with an energetic 22-month-old.
The Embassy Suites worked out great!
The staff was lovely-- very friendly and went out of their way to do little things like make Mickey Mouse pancakes with fresh raspberry features for our son.
Getting in and out was a breeze. We would park by a side door and be up in our room in under three minutes.
Breakfast was tasty and a real added value.
We enjoyed the popcorn and snacks at Happy Hour. They were the perfect post-swim refresher.
The decor is delightfully dated and the eau de chlorine is strong, but that's OK by me because the fish were a great diversion for our little traveler.
We are plotting our return.
Ahhh. Stayed here over the weekend for my friend's nearby wedding. Wow. We were here a couple of weeks ago to check it out and when we walked in I impressed myself by correctly identifying the two smells in the lobby: chlorine and popcorn (it's actually not a bad combo). We walked a little farther and there's an indoor pool right next to an old-fashioned popcorn machine during the happy hour. Yep, hotel guests get unlimited FREE drinks during happy hour.
The beds were huge and unbelievably comfy, with about 8,000 pillows. Scrumptious! Big flat screen TVs in each bedroom of the suite and also in the living room. Delicious free breakfast in the morning, and noon checkout. AND payed for by the father of the bride. Couldn't have asked for more!
Oh, and they have coi in the indoor pond/waterfall that actually swam up to the little kids feeding them--pettable fish!!!

A nice place to stay at. Customer service was fine, easy check in and informed of happy hour(popcorn) and made to order breakfast (free).
The layout/atrium is interesting. There is a series of ponds/waterfalls that you can take a walk through and yes it has the wet chlorine smell that come with the created humidity.
The rooms were clean, nice, comfy regular sized.
I would stay here again considering the selection in the area. All current amenties in room as well as a heated pool, jacuzzi and gym.

YO HO, YO HO the lobby smells like Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland.
It's funny how certain smells can make you think you are some place else in the world. The mixture of chlorine and mildew always puts me in the mood to pillage, plunder, rifle and loot in addition to wanting to buy a bride. (We wants the redhead!)
Check-in was easy and fast and I was off to my room. While the lobby was a pleasant reminder of the most popular ride in New Orleans Square my room unfortunately smelled like a foot. And not a freshly washed and well manicured foot, but a foot that had been hiking through the Sierra Nevada's for a week in an old boot without socks. In addition to the unpleasant aroma the couch had a nice pasty stain about the size of a playing card right in the middle of the cushion. This didn't look like an "oops I spilled something stain" but more like a projected from a human body stain. I've seen enough episodes of Dexter to know the difference. The girlfriend, J, trying to put a positive spin on it suggested it was probably baby formula. I couldn't help but think wonder what if it wasn't. Needless to say a bath towel was sacrificed as a buffer just to be safe.
Besides the unpleasant scent -which did go away after we turned on the A/C- and the stain the room wasn't that bad. Two televisions were nice and the extra furniture kept our bed neat and tidy until we were ready to turn in for the night. Five pillows on the king bed was also a plus.
The staff at the hotel was very nice and courteous. We had breakfast in newly remodeled dining room. Breakfast was cooked to order and you could get eggs, omelets, pancakes and French Toast in addition to cereal, pastries and juice. For a free meal it wasn't bad.
I spent $124/night and I have definitely paid more and received less. I'd stay there again and even recommend it to people looking for a simple hotel versus a luxurious resort.

I've always like Embassy Suites because the kids have their own room including their own flat screen TV. The rooms were clean and the service great. The included breakfasts in the morning were above average with made to order eggs with bacon and sausage on the side. Make sure you bring your key when you order.
I didn't like having to buy a newspaper at the front desk in the morning and to pay for wi-fi.
The location is great right across from Northgate Mall, next to the Civic Center and not far from Napa County. I thinks it's the best large hotel in Marin County.
Lastly, we attended a Special Event in their Convention Center and it was very convenient to leave that event late at night and take the elevator to our room.
I need to do some research and figure out just how Triple-A opts to dole out its "diamonds" to hotels, because the Embassy Suites in San Rafael is a four-diamond hotel and I just can't figure out why.
I'm starting to think they give diamonds based on available amenities, graded purely on form, not function. Sure, my suite was large, and the water feature in the center atrium helped to minimize ambient noise. But when a group of school kids ran screaming to check out the Koi fish in the pond, it echoed throughout my room - with the door closed.
Yes, there is a restaurant on-site. And it certainly is handy to not have to drive into town to find food. But when a lunchtime cheeseburger runs me $14 I expect it to be the best damn cheeseburger I've ever had; or at least memorable for something other than price.
On top of that, WiFi will cost you $9.95 a day.
Pool: check. Two TV's in the room, check. Belief that AAA's rating system is tied to ad dollars in VIA Magazine: check.

Staying at the Embassy was such a great experience. How can you not love complimentary cooked to order breakfast and Manager's Reception aka Happy Hour?
Aside from that, the staff was extremely helpful and courteous. We (My BF and I) forgot a few personal things while our rush packing and they provided us with what we needed.
The rooms were perfect sized for 2--large, spacious, TV in both bedroom and living room. Lots and lots of fluffy pillows--one can never have too much. No hidden fees.
And possibly the best thing is the Atrium. It was gorgeous with koi fishes swimming. Great experience. Did not try out the pool or hot tub, but saw many kids slipping and sliding in there. Thank god there it was enclosed in another area because I can just imagine how loud the kids are.
I would def come back here again, worth the money.

There's no other place to go if you want to play out your dreams of being like Senator Craig and you want to sexually solicit police officers in the bathroom.

Seriously though, I was there for a conference and it was very comfortable.

Ugh - I'm super mad at this hotel right now.
I've never been a fan of the dark little suites, the chlorine scented air in the atrium, or the low budget feel of it all, but I've certainly stayed at many an Embassy Suite in my day and never had a problem. Typically I feel like this chain's staff is friendly and accommodating, but customer service is not this location's strong suit.
I'm sure it's fine if you're getting a room for some work function nearby, or a family reunion when you need a place to stay, but as a location for a group or any kind of special event, I advise you to stay far away.
I don't think I have ever encountered such surly staff that was completely unwilling to help, and I'm typically staying in a hotel at least once a month for work. That's saying something.
The rooms felt much smaller than other ES's I've visited, the indoor pool made me really sad (The weather up here is beautiful! Why no outdoor option?), and everyone just seemed a little baffled. You know what it was like? When you have a houseguest that has overstayed their welcome, and you're grudgingly trying to remain civil while feeding them and giving them fresh towels, but you really want them to get the hell out and you know they can tell because you've been gritting your teeth so much they've started audibly breaking apart? It was like that. Luckily, there are other hotels in the area that are happy to have my business.

It's one of those bad news, good news things. My mom had a stroke about 6 years ago. That was definately the bad news(she's doing pretty well now). But the good news for us was that that meant that she needed the spare bedroom for herself and didn't want houseguests. That gave us the excuse we needed NOT to stay with my folks when we visit.
They live in Novato so this is about a 5 minute drive. I opt for this over other hotels in the area for the free breakfast, free evening cocktails(Those go down very well after several hours hearing my parents bicker) and the 24 hour indoor hot tub. he staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean, huge and quiet.
I know it's a chain and everything, actually one of my favorite chains but they need to jazz this shit up. Do it Lake Tahoe style. The inside looks and smells like the Pirates of the Carribean ride, with all the plants and smelly water. The room itself was nice and clean. My only complaint is the shower didn't have glass doors and no free cotton swabs and balls. Lake Tahoe location really did spoil me. The staff was good though, they brought me an extra robe right away and let me check out at 1 instead of 12, big whoop I know. The complimentary breakfast was pretty lousy. Again, I realize it's free but they could re-do their omelette ordering process so that it's efficient. I had to yell back to the kitchen like I was a part of the wait staff. HOT JAMBALAYA!

for me and the old man's 4th anniversary we went up north to get out of the city. after an eight mile hike, we wanted a nice place to chill out and get drunk. camping was not an option because it was friday night. after a failed attempt at the olema inn, we hit up the embassy suites. booked the room online from a free wifi spot and drove to san rafael. it was 10pm by the time we got there and we were exhausted and dirty. homeboy at the desk was awesome. he joked and chatted just enough to make me feel special but not so much that i was looking for an out. tatiana d. commented on the smell of the place, which i happened to love. as a previous turtle owner (rip gustav) i love the smell of water and plants and dirt. it's very organic, as the hippie's would say. we were on the 5th floor and after the vertigo wore off, we loved running up and down the hallways at 1am while drunk, with the koi and vegetation below us. our room was perfect for us to stretch out and party for the night. loved the huge fat screen tv's, but no dvd player so we ended up watching the third season of weeds on our laptop. Internet is a rip. 9.99 for 24 hours. f that. in this day in age, it should be free. after i passed out, i mean went to bed, the old man shut my door and watched tv as loud as he wanted. the two rooms really makes a difference. breakfast buffet was solid. crappy breakfast food is a-ok in my book. i wish we got to visit the "bathroom" that carlos a. mentions. that would have made for an interesting night. unfortunately we got there too late for the managers reception. but it is the best gawd damned idea i have ever heard of. i want to live at the embassy suites.
i hope i make it to a manger's reception before i die.

The biggoted policy of this establishment should preclude your patronage!
We stay at Embassy Suites every time we travel, and they are worth every dime. This was an okay hotel. The food was okay. The rooms I thought were as good as usual. The service overall was okay. I'll stay there again if I'm up that way.
san rafael is hardly one of the nicer spots in marin. the embassy suites tries it's best though. it's across the street from a frank lloyd wright building and is really close to a town park with a lovely pond. there's also a big long walking trail that goes through semi-residential swamp land with good birdwatching. the suites are spacious and comfortable but the views from the upper floors are just of general suburbia. the pool and hot tub are small and generally full of noisy children. overall the hotel is nice and peaceful though.
Excellant buy for the money. Room is so nice and clean and you get a yummy breakfast! super nice for the price!
