Wow, I love how this place is decorated with the desert theme...nice warm colors and a sizable pool...
Managers hour...wow they do not skimp...they use high quality liquor & the bartender is so friendly tho they were short on certain things like orange juice & such...still they have enough to make good drinks
Breakfast...it says it's the same location as managers hour but it's on the opposite side of the pool...there's 2 rooms that they serve the breakfast in and from what we saw...no one clears the plates...one employee working in each room
Front desk agent...wow, she does not know what she's doing...she directed us to a closed restaurant...and she seemed so sure too
Overall a pretty good hotel =]
This Embasy Suites is really old. You can pass the decor off as desert colored and blends in with the surroundings, but it is still old, I would say at least 30 years.
Don't get me wrong, it is failry well maintained and kept up, but it has some signs of age.
The design is unlike most of the more newer Embassy suites. No atrium lobby. No Koi and ponds. It has an open courtyard between the hotel buidlings with rooms, and the elevators are in the open, not in a lobby atrium. NOt ideal when the tempartures in the valley here go over 110, which is most of summer.
If you come here in late summer, after the kids go back to school but before the snowbirds fly down from the north and east, , you can get a pretty good rate. It is cooling down around September/October a bit, and you can get a 2 room suite for under $100 before tax, usually. Of course, it might be hotter than Hades, but usually it is warm but starting to cool down somewhat.
Very nice front desk help! They were very accomodating when I arrived by myself after leaving friends back at the Empire Polo Club. Minus 1 because even though they also were great calling a cab to the airport because they don't provide shuttle the Palm Springs Airport. I was out $40 for another cab ride. The room provided was an executive suite and it had all the extras. It was clean and didn't charge extra for water (i can't stand that) or use of bathrobe. I took advantage of the hotel amenities after camping in the desert for 2 nights - it's funny what becomes luxury when you don't have them everyday. I slept like a baby in the king size bed with a mound of fluffy pillows and fresh sheets. I think I am just not a camping kind of girl.
The place is nice. Its not great. The rooms all smelled like ass, and they were non-smoking. The counter tops were all granite. Three sinks. One in the living room with a coffe maker, fridge & microwave. There was another, of course in the bathroom, and one in the vanity in the bedroom. The bed was comfy; they provide tons of pillows. The couch in the living room area pulls out into a bed. There were two tvs- one was a flat screen. It was nice. The grounds were clean. Its more of an economy hotel than a luxury hotel.
Free cocktails during happy hour to all hotel guests. Get there early, because the line got really long.
The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I probably would pick a place closer to everything. This place was a little out of the way for me.
My family stayed here over the Labor Day weekend. It was crazy hot as usual.
EMBASSY MOTEL?: This Embassy Suites is a little different flavor than a couple other typical ones I've been to. Our suite was accessed from the outdoor, which didn't really impress me, especially being located in the 100 degree desert heat. Most Embassy Suites I've been to, the suites are accessed from the indoor over a grand open atrium. Our suite was located around an outdoor courtyard and swimming pool. Kinda reminded me of being at some motel, which isn't a good thing. The size of the suite wasn't up to par and the walls were pretty thin as we could hear people walking all night. The AC also was very loud. Just too much of what I would expect at a motel, not Embassy Suites.
GOOD NEWS IS THE BOOZE: They provide free cheap wine and beer during happy hour 5-7 (must show room key). The complimentary made-to-order breakfast simply owns any other crappy continental breakfast. Their breakfast includes eggs, omelettes, sausage, bacon, pancakes, hash brown, cereal, and fresh fruit. Give me good food and alcohol and I'll forget about all the suite short-comings.
Despite being a non-traditional Embassy Suites in that rooms are accessed from the outside, I can say that this is one of the best hotels I've stayed at. I love the color scheme as it contrasts beautifully against the crisp blue skies of Palm Desert, and their central courtyard is very relaxing with its pool, spas, and fountains.
But finally, their free open bar with hors d'oeuvres, every evening from 5:30 to 7:30, is enough to get me to stay here. Every staff member was exceedingly polite and every guest had a smile on their face. I will definitely return!
I am not a fan of Palm Desert and wasn't crazy about going there with my 2 1/2 year old, as I was afraid there would be nothing to do. Well, the pool at the Embassy Suites was all I needed!
The hotel room was clean, roomy, comfortable (I mean it is a hotel, so it's not a home away from home). The room up front had a pull out sofa bed. Air conditioning was not very good, but couldn't tell if it was because of the insane heat, or if the system did not work.
The free breakfast was made to order and very good. The manager's reception had free snacks and alcohol, again much better than you'd expect for being free.
We definitely would recommend going there. Everything was excellent.
I was a lucky person and was able to stay for free here. DISCLAIMER: I do not know the prices first hand; you see, my husband is a producer for local commercials at TW (sounds WAAAAAAY more glam than it is. Trust me.) and TW was hired to make the comercial for this hotel. J was on the crew and I was able to come out and stay there for 3 nights with him, at no cost other than meals and such. and yup - the kids, too! (So yay hotel and yay, TW!! lol!)
Gee, that preamble was too much. Sorry.
The lobby is elegant and airy. It's an atrium actually, and has a glass elevator, lots of lovely natural light, tons of greenery and even a waterfall. Everything is light colored, yet it retains warmth. It was similar to an American half-version of a French bistro.
I loved the size of the suite. There was a separate bedroom with a TV in the armoire , as per usual. a nice sitting area that functioned as living room. The couch was a pull out bed and was very comfy! we had a mini fridge, sink and microwave next to a table set for four. The bath was spacious and had the usual accommodations with a bit of flair. The lay out was simply welcoming. And to be honest of course - please remember - I rarely am away from home with five kids, four at home and two under 6. So of course, a place that could make the beds and clean it daily was enchanting, lol! But really, it was beyond that. It was a very nice suite and perfectly suited for the needs we had. Also, it was just NICE. I really loved the area, too. The hills are amazing, and the air was clean and crisp. There was also a nice balcony space to sit and enjoy the cool breezes that always seem to happen in that area in the evening. Really, the scenery is breath-taking, with the stark and sudden incline of the Rocky, Jr. mountains.
Now - the drinks!
They have, or they had at least when I was there, ('round March of '08?) a Happy Hour in the bar where they had a complimentary Happy Hour. From 5pm to 7pm, free (yup. free.) house wines and some beers, popcorn and half off on the appetizers. It was social, and enjoyable, and fun for the kids and I - all at the same time! Plus, it was pretty cool to watch J set up a shoot a few times. We were invited in one shoot - the pool - we declined ;)
The staff, I have to say, was so wonderful. Me, with two small kids, were treated as sublimely as anyone. As it should be, period, of course. They spoke to the kids, listened, cared (or acted like it in a believable way), and were attentive and helpful to me and to them.
The housekeeping staff was especially kind. I was accidentally locked out of my room with bags from the local Trader Joe's and they let me in with their key as soon as they saw me freakin' out. (I was just worried about sitting there with cold items in the hallway, lol, I didn't REALLY freak out). Plus, the room was of course, kept very well. Great staff!
One thing - if you don't smoke - make SURE you get a non-smoking room. The nicotine left-overs were HORRID - J got a smoking room and at the time, I didn't know I could have asked for a non-smoking room). Neither did he, and how he got it is a story for another time...but please, if you don't like old nicotine, get a non-smoking suite!
