Dated decor but a solid resort with extra amenities.

Nice bar social scene with accomodating staff.  Family friendly yet classy.  Just a bit run down with the green paint but hey, people still want to get married here.  The outdoor scenery is unbeatable.  Just remember to avoid June.  The locals will all tell 'ya  know about June gloom, when everyday is foggy and chilly.

Our experience:
-Check in was godawful slow. I tried to use the self-check in, but after several minutes of clicking it told me that I had to finish at the desk. At the desk the clerk was clueless and took forever...this for a pre-paid room.
-The room was spacious with two bathrooms.
-The big BUT...I paid a pretty price for an ocean view, which I got, but the sliding doors which opened onto my ocean view also opened onto a walkway, so anyone going to their rooms on the second floor had to walk by my windows.  Absolutely no privacy.  Either close the drapes and see nothing or open them and see every person staying at the hotel. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.
-The room had virtually no sound-proofing.  We could hear the people above us stomping back and forth for hours.
-The bed was comfy but the 'living room' furniture was horrendous with a fabric so rough it felt like burlap.
-The resort restaurant was okay, a reasonable price, but the food was not really memorable.
-The complimentary breakfast was just a huge let down. Certainly not "resort" food. The scrambled eggs were runny and everything else tasted like it had come from Holiday Inn as leftovers.
-The location is the saving grace here, right on the beach.
-Fifteen dollars for self-parking.  Rip off.

Make sure that if you get a room, it has a private balcony.  Otherwise, forget privacy.

Staying here sure beats the hell out of staying in Los Angeles. There's a beach. It's relatively quiet. And old people will really love the free breakfast every morning. Something about made to order omelettes drives 60 year olds crazy.

I enjoyed the stay. The rooms were big and I loved the lagoon area of the property. We had an ocean view room and it was awesome. Very relaxing place, staff was nice also! The free Happy hour is a bit crazy but we everyone there seemed to be friendly. Capistrano's was a pretty good restaurant and our server was great. The Free Breakfast was a bit crazy the next day but I still enjoyed it and once again, everyone was very friendly. I enjoyed this hotel and I would stay here again.... It is a bit old but I didn't mind it.

Even though its in Oxnard...It's pretty nice. The rooms have a "tropical" feel to most of them ( I guess since the beach is the 'backyard'). The hotel is pretty easy to navigate. As for the pool/spa area it has a Florida-like layout, they have a little "stream" going through where the hot tub is (my suggestion is they need a better water filter but, whatever). I would stay here again if the chance arose, I wouldn't however eat at Capistrano's again.

I stayed here because a buddy of mine got married on the beach right in front of here. It could have way better ratings but the place needs to be updated. The location is sweet, the staff was friendly, the place was clean, the amenities were pleasant and they offer a huge free breakfast. We had a great time sitting poolside sipping on some cocktails the night before the wedding.

You can't really beat the location of this place. It's in Oxnard which is just south of Santa Barbara and it's right on the ocean. There's not too much to say except it's very pleasant but a little out dated and the prices are very reasonable.

Contrary to what others say of this resort, I actually enjoyed my two day stay.  We're there to attend a wedding. The town is quiet but I find it really peaceful just standing out there on the balcony looking at the water.

Four stars.

The stars reflect the price point.

Imagine a beautiful ocean setting with a fantastic beach and climate.  It's damn near pardise.

Now...plop down a grade B+ business class hotel with faux waterfall near the uninspired pool and clearly concrete/disney like "streams"...and you get the Mandalay Embassy Suites.

The Hotel Del it ain't.  But its about 1/2 price.  I think it should be 1/4 the price to be reasonable, but its really the only game in town so they can charge it.  Not a bad experienced, but the whole time I was there, the place felt like "Corporate Hotel Experience 101".  It's like the Embassy Suites in Temecula was carried by a storm and somehow dropped on this most entertaining landscape..but the owners run it like they did in Temecula. Breakfast was free, and tasted so.  Service was efficient, but no smile.  Room service said "closed" a good ten minutes before closing.  Not a problem at Embassy Suites...but definitely NOT a resort experience.  Those that usually stay in Super 8 Motels until vacation time will be impressed.  For those that look for a true resort experience, this isn't the place.  Far from it.

The hotel is bland, but has a perfect locale.  Actually, I guess it mirrors Oxnard to a tee!  BLAND BUT PERFECT LOCALE!  The Chamber should think of adopting this as the town motto.

BTW, for dinner, Ventura is a lot more fun.  If on a budget, stay Embassy Suites in Oxnard and party in Ventura.  If you're willing to spend more for this slice of far north L.A., I can't tell you where to do it.  I'd guess Santa Barbara, but I'm looking myself.

I travel a lot and this is a first class hotel, on the beach next to a gated community near the harbor area. Rooms were clean and well maintained, and over sized (two bathrooms in a single dual queen bed suite!) Hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating. My room faced the gardens, and as I was checking in, they were replacing all their TV's with HD-TV's/large flat screens.

Bottom line: Try it, you'll like it!

I was really excited that I got a room here (Complimentary!) at the last minute...I have a wedding set-up in Ojai and I just decided to stay overnight and enjoy the beach etc. So when I got to the hotel...it was gloomy as hell! I was sooo bummed. The weather was chilly too! The hotel staff was extremely friendly and accommodating since I had a large cargo truck that needed to be parked somewhere in the property...no hassle! They took care of it for me.

My room was situated facing the garden which was fine...very soothing. I would have preferred a beach view but this is what I get for being last minute...so I can't complain. For a Hilton hotel...the rooms are a little bit dated. It actually looks like a family type of ambiance...I mean, pea green and turquoise color scheme! (Vomit) My room had a king size bed, a pull out from the living area couch and two bathrooms! oh yea...very family oriented room.

The hotel had a medium sized swimming pool and a couple of hot tubs, free breakfast like custom omelette's etc. They also have a happy hour...FREE DRINKS! But when I checked in at 6pm I was starving and I know that when I take advantage of their happy hour...I'll be taking advantage of vomiting on my two bathroom toilet!

So all in all a pretty great stay...is only it would have been sunny. Better luck next time!

Wow $200 a night? My experience was for the a recent wedding reception I had attended. The pool, grotto, water falls are awesome addition to the hotel.

Parking sucks though if you have a rack on your SUV, either you park at the valet or you park God only knows where. The bartenders are in need of another bar-tending class. They didn't know half of the drinks we ordered.

We stayed here for our wedding night. It's an ok hotel at a beautiful location, but as other reviewers stated, it is old and definitely needs some sprucing up. The paint inside the rooms is neon blue and green, which is very dated. The grounds are nice, and we did have our photographer take some nice pictures of me and my bridesmaids around the landscaped areas. It is definitely overpriced for what you get, though.  We really liked the Sunday brunch at Capestrano's and would reccomend it. I must say the staff seems very friendly; the bellman who was sent for our bags was really nice and helpful and seemed to enjoy working there, which is always a positive sign. If I had family visiting, I don't think I would recommend it, simply because it is so overpriced.

After staying at this Embassy Suites a countless amount of times, I have yet to be disappointed. Although it is not the classiest nor elegant hotel, it has a spacious homely feeling. The pool is definitely very nice, right by the snack shack, and of course free breakfast is always a delight. If you're looking for simple relaxing comfort, this is the place to be.

Great location (for Oxnard that is).  The people were friendly, and the room was clean.  The reason for the 3 stars was the "feel" of the hotel.  It is very old and needs alot of restoration.  Not sure if it was worth the $200 a night.
