Honolulu, HI
Location, location, location! The hotel is situated over the Friendship Heights Metro station on the red line -- just a couple of escalators away. This provides easy access to American University, only one Metro stop (Tenleytown station) and one AU shuttle ride away. The hotel is also located within two blocks of shopping meccas, a movie theater (AMC), and restaurants of all sorts.
Contrary to some other earlier reports, my hotel room on the 5th floor was clean, except for a few inconsequential carpet stains; the maid service was excellent; and the front desk personnel was cordial and very helpful. The only two negatives for me were a confounding door lock (sometimes I needed to push the handle down, other times up, to open), and a laundry room no larger than an airplane bathroom with only one washer and one dryer.
The all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast was on par with Embassy Suites in other cities. Better juice selection than most (passion-orange-guava), but no sliced melons, only whole fruits like apples, oranges and bananas. No serious complaints here. The manager's reception in the evening is wonderful, not necessarily because of the drinks and snacks (vegetable sticks, goldfish crackers, trail mix, chips, and, one evening, my beloved sliced melons), but because of the cheerful and exuberant bartender, a woman whose name I unfortunately did not get.
Parking is expensive at $24 a day, but, if you're only touring the monuments and museums, shopping downtown, and/or visiting AU, you really don't need a car once you acquaint yourself with the Metro. After just one trip on the Metro, I concur that it is one of the best mass transit systems - relatively clean for a major city, user friendly, surprisingly helpful transit workers, and a well thought-out schematic of routes and stops.
I would definitely return, especially if I can snag a room special on the hotel website. -

Bottom Line Up Front:
I will continue to choose Embassy Suites as my goto hotel when travelling, but I will not choose this Embassy the next time I'm in this town.
In town for a week on business.
I try to always stay at Embassy Suites when I travel because of great value and service.
PROS:
+ Easy Access to shopping areas and surrounding businesses
+ Metro stop in the same facility
+ Breakfast/Evening Manager's meet & greet
+ Clean rooms and nice televisions
+ CVS in the building, all those items you forgot or don't want to pack can be picked up conveniently at this store, even your prescription. Unfortunately, they do not carry the single use laundry detergent.
+ Business Center with free printing
+ Cheesecake factory in building
CONS:
- The breakfast just doesn't taste the same as other Embassy Suites that I have stayed at, can't quite put my finger on it, but everything just tastes off. Plus, one morning I noticed some fruit (oranges/apples) fall off the fruit tray and onto the floor, the embassy employee picked them off the floor and put them back in the tray. (It was definitely on the ground longer than 5 seconds!)
- My room on the 4th floor had the main street outside so the noise from outside kept bleeding in (Buses and traffic)
- There are these wall sized windows in the front part of the suite on the hallway side and even with the curtains drawn, you can still see through if the lights are on. (Has that fishbowl feel to it, I didn't like this about the room)
- Elevators. That's plural. Lots of elevators in this building, unfortunately they do not all lead to the same areas. You have two that go to the parking garage. You have two that take you from the shopping area and metro to the embassy front desk. And you have two that take you from the front desk to your room and all the way to the top floor. Takes a little getting used to.
- Laundry room: There is only one set of washer/dryer. ONE! For the entire hotel. I just think this is nuts, plus it is all the way up on the top floor. $1.50 for washer, $1.50 for dryer, .50 for detergent. Make sure you have correct change.
- Front desk: The personnel was always helpful and friendly, but, there never seemed to be enough people working, more often than not...I had to wait in a long line for service.
- Business Center: Very tight space, only two workstations. Chairs are basically back to back (I like my personal space =p).
- Wifi: $9.95 for full day of regular tier, $7.95 for half day. 14.95 for premium. Regular is good enough for streaming Netflix and iChat/Facetime, but it took a bit to buffer and webcam video can come in pixelated. But the price is on par with other major hotels. I would much rather prefer if they didn't charge the above mentioned prices per device.
Bottom Line: If I haven't stayed at other Embassy Suites throughout the country, I would have rated this particular location higher. However, since I have stayed at other Embassy locations, this one comes in dead last. With all the choices in D.C. (depending on your reason for staying) I would go to another higher rated hotel.
Feedback is always welcomed whether you agree or disagree. I hope the above input helps you out. =) -

Excellent! Great breakfast which is FREE. The business center came in handy after I destroyed my laptop! Clean rooms! My room had a beautiful view! Friendly staff!
I think It's in a PERFECT location (Friendship Heights) because it's a few steps from a metro station (which can take you ALL over D.C.) , it's inside the Chevy Chase Mall which has a CVS, Starbucks, etc. It's also right across the street from a movie theatre, McDonalds, and is near a Cheesecake Factory! For the high rollers, they have a Louis Vuitton Store, Dior, Tiffany's, M.A.C Cosmetics, etc.
The only negative was-- the pool. Which was a bit small and the water was SALTY!, not a lot of lounge chairs and be prepared to wait if you want to wash your clothes! They only have 1 washer/dryer. Also, you have to pay for Wi-Fi...I didn't--because I used the metro station's Wi-Fi!
Overall, I really loved staying here! I am sure to return!!!! -

Was here the other day to celebrate a friends birthday. The room was laid out nicely, and everything was comfortable. Good furniture, a decent TV, comfy couch, and I liked the bar area.
Was a little confused with how the heck to find anything/get anywhere within the hotel. CVS what? Elevator to the garage what? Different elevator to the higher floors, huh? Escaltor???? The people who worked there were nice enough, although the front desk guy could have been a little more professional. There was a light amount of foot traffic, and I heard him on the phone (making what was obviously a personal call) talking to someone and saying things that I wouldn't say in my place of employment (well... If I had a job........ sad face..........)
Since it's the holiday season, everything was covered in lights, and when I looked over the balcony, there was a huge Christmas tree (there was an "awwwwwww" moment for me and the person I was with). -

I was going to rate this locale a 3-star but after reading the other two reviews and realizing that 3 stars = "A-OK" I decided against it because of the circumstances that surrounded my stay: My wedding.
I was getting married on a Saturday in Bethesda and I decided it would make the most sense if I stayed within a one-mile radius of the Church and Reception venue. Not only did this save me $ on a limo, but I was able to decorate the reception venue in the morning without a planner (also good for the moolah).
I'm a Hilton Honors member and Embassy Suites is a sub-chain. I thought I would show my loyalty by staying there versus some other hotel in Bethesda (like the Hyatt or the local Bethesda Court Hotel) but I was VERY wrong in assuming I would be treated like the VIP card member that I thought I was.
First, I had my flowers delivered to the hotel. This would not have been a problem if: 1. They actually gave me all the boxes that came (they forgot to give me the rose petals which they left in the refrigerator) and 2. They didn't refuse to give me scissors to cut open the box.
Yes - I know asking for scissors is an odd request but when I say, "I'm a Bride and I need some scissors to cut open a box of flowers, can you send some up?" I don't need the response, "Um. I don't think so. We do not make it a policy of letting hotel guests have scissors."
Fortunately, a phone call to the manager solved that problem but in order to calm my nerves down, I ordered a glass of wine and it took over 30 minutes for them to bring it up.
From Friday night into Saturday afternoon (when I checked out) it was just debacle after debacle: I never got the chocolate covered-strawberries that were confirmed delivered to the hotel by FedEx, parking was an issue because they wanted me to valet it every time I came and went (though it would take them a little while to retrieve the car), my wake-up call came in 20 min. too early, etc.
I nearly lost an ear-drum when my Mom called to request a valet so I could check out in my wedding dress: "20 MINUTES?!?! WHAT?!?! MY DAUGHTER IS GETTING MARRIED AND I AM NOT GOING TO WAIT 20 MINUTES FOR SOMEONE TO COME BY WITH A VALET CART BECAUSE YOU HEARD THAT MRS. SMITH IS LEAVING SOON. GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE NOW AND TELL MRS. SMITH SHE CAN WAIT!"
The only saving grace for this location is the manager. I called after I got back from my honeymoon because I was particularly peeved that they never gave me the chocolate covered strawberries which I paid a little bit of money for. He apologized, looked into it and after 2 days credited me with hotel points equal to the amount of money I spent on the strawberries.
But here's the point: no matter how much grace can be saved you shouldn't have to go through this - especially if you're going to get married!
If you're looking into a hotel for this particular purpose in this particular region, stay somewhere else. Here, you don't get VIP treatment for anything - for being a HH member, for paying for the room, for being a bride(!) [and if you ask me, everyone should be nice to a Bride on her wedding day!] -

You know what sucks? Watching a football game on a slightly fuzzy TV screen. You know what really sucks? Having to watch that game also on mute because the sound on the TV is crappy. I usually love an Embassy Suites. I certainly get too excited about the breakfast spread. But the bad television added insult to injury as I watched the Eagles' and Jeff Garcia's fairytale season come to an end.

I was here for a Microsoft event just across the street. My stay here at the Chevy Chase Pavilion Embassy Suites was mostly positive.
At check in, though the room was not yet ready, the receptionist at the front desk provided baggage storage in a secure location and offered a map of restaurants in the area and anticipated time of when my room would be ready. Very helpful in creating a pleasant waiting experience.
The rooms were a bit dated and the furniture/beds were not the most comfortable but were always kept clean. The actual suite itself was spacious and the convenience of the metro station, shops and stores of the Pavilion were a huge bonus. Nothing like being able to hop on the elevator and head down to the CVS and grab some forgotten toothpaste or beverages or over to Starbucks while working on business presentations with the team late into the night.
The continental breakfast was very well prepared and opened early, closed late. Kind and helpful staff made the dining experience much appreciated.
Complimentary internet access was also provided during my stay and for the most part, was a good speed to stream media and download documents.
The elevators and directions take some getting used to, but there's a variety of was of moving about the hotel. Once guests figure out the system, it's not too much of a hassle. Also, many of the doors to enter the hotel are locked after hours without a card swipe system to get in. Another guest who was not from the States and I pondered how to get in. I had to wander about for 5-10 minutes until I realized the the Cheesecake Factory was still opened so I zipped in through there and out to the mall area. Nearly terrified me to think that I might not have been able to get in after hours. But overall, a good stay at the Embassy Suites. -

I had to stay here for a week for business and as far as second homes go, it could have been a lot worse. However, things to know before you go:
- the handicapped accessible suite, while enormous, has a very low showerhead and a very high toilet.
- while an iron and ironing board are provided, good luck finding a convenient outlet.
- the breakfast is free, but after about 7:30 inundated by screaming kiddies on donut/hot chocolate/froot loop sugar highs. Go early. The home fries are terrible, and the scrambled eggs are dry.
- There are limited TV stations and no channel guide for those addicted to comcast
- the internet costs either $5 for 4 hours or $10 for 24 hours
- The air conditioning is incredibly loud and when it comes on will jolt you out of a sound sleep
- the water takes a while to get hot
- the front desk staff are only moderately helpful for things like directions and what's in the vicinity. (Especially Emily)
- The elevator is sloooow
- a 20 oz soda from the vending machine is $2.
- if you choose not to have maid service they will call you and tell you they tried to clean your room but there was a sign on the door and if you need anything, you can call the front desk. Duh.
- The beds and pillows are incredibly comfy. Get ready for a really good night sleep (if you turn the AC off)
- you can plug your ipod into the alarm clock and listen through its speakers
- the hairdryer is pretty low power
- in general, its nice and quiet, not much sound transfers between rooms.
- The rate is around $280 on average a night. Pretty steep for what it is but there are a lot of extras that make it good for a long haul.
