2900 K St NWThe House of Sweden is many things. Foremost, it is the new Embassy of Sweden. It is also an event center and contains corporate apartments. However, if you ask me, it is a heaven for Swede-o-phils. All they need is the IKEA cafeteria in here so I can get meatballs!

This was my stop #1 for the "Shortcut to Europe" EU Embassies Open House. The Embassy of Sweden is gorgeous in my opinion since it's exactly the aesthetic that I prefer - a mixture of light wood, lots of glass and metal, modern, minimalist design.
It's right on the Georgetown waterfront and we were allowed to go up to the rooftop which has beautiful views of the Potomac, K center, Key Bridge and Rosslyn.

Short version: If you have the opportunity to visit the Swedish Embassy - Go!
I had the opportunity to visit the House of Sweden on Passport DC's "Shortcut to Europe" today. All EU embassies were open to the public from 10am - 3pm, and free shuttles ran from the Farragut North, Dupont Circle and Cleveland Park Metro stations.
This sleek, Scandinavian building is located between Rock Creek and Georgetown Harbor in Georgetown. Natural wood accents lay like a canvas for the natural lighting and water effects - creating a wonderful blend of Potomac views and modern architecture.
The best part - THE BEST PART - is taking the elevator to the magnificent rooftop deck for one of the best views in town.
The Embassy staff could not have been friendlier - they seemed tirelessly upbeat for wave after wave of bus-clomping American hooligans.
For years I've wanted to visit Sweden, and after my visit to this tiny slice of Scandinavia I'm bumping it up on my world travel wish list.

A beautiful building with a great location and interesting public events.
Hopefully Yelp updates the address to their new location on the Potomac, because it's beautiful and worth a visit. The new address is 2900 K ST NW in Georgetown, it's actually more on 30th ST than K ST. Follow 30th ST to the water after passing K and look for the Swedish flags.
Not meaning to enforce any stereotypes, but this new building is like going to a high-class IKEA (minus the cafeteria and cheap ice cream cones). I know that sounds bad, it isn't like the US Embassy resembles a high-class Walmart, but you wait and see. Simply designed, after walking through a glass entrance that is shrouded by a waterfall, you enter a beautiful reception hall that seems more like a lounge with huge windows overlooking the Potomac.
Bookmark the website (www.houseofsweden.com) because they have public lectures (they presented a discussion by the Nobel Laureates today...too bad Al wasn't there), interactive exhibitions, and a beautiful campus.
