This is a great place for an affordable, relaxing central coast getaway. I got a great deal on Hotwire - about 100 bucks even though it was August (it shows up as a 3 star Morro Bay hotel). All of the rooms face the bay, so you'll have some sort of view- maybe you'll get lucky and have a view of the fog shrouded Morro Rock. My room was cute and quaint, with old photographs of Morro Bay fisherman and divers on the wall. The room had a fridge and a microwave, and there was popcorn waiting for us in the 'wave. They have a serve-yourself continental breakfast upstairs, with cereal, oatmeal, cinnamon rolls, muffins, ,juice, etc, and you can eat it outside on the balcony overlooking the bay. They've also got two indoor jacuzzis- not facing the bay, but still nice.
The location is fantastic. You can walk outside in the morning and spot an otter having breakfast and sea lions swimming around in the bay. Walk along the bay and watch the fog lift, then have breakfast at a place overlooking the water. It's a great home base for exploring the area nearby, including Cambria, Avila Beach, Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo, etc.

There's an old adage that says that someone riding a motorcycle isn't a real biker, until they've ridden in the rain. And while there is some controversy in regards to full gear/full-face helmet vs. minimum gear/open-faced helmet, I can attest that in the right storm, it just doesn't matter. Wear the full face and your visor fogs up every three seconds or collects too much water to see through. Wearing an open-face, individual rain droplets smash into your face, and give a feeling not unlike red-hot hypodermic needles. In either case, it can instantaneously turn a long-range run (i.e. more than 150 miles) into a miserable trip of endurance.
At the end of such a test of fortitude, most look forward to some form of personal reward. Some want a warm drink, others want a warm meal, a few look forward to a comfortable bed. Me, I'm a selfish bastard- I want it all. Such was the case when we pulled in to Morro Bay. Sure, there were plenty of rooms at the Days Inn, several blocks away, and other off-beach motels. But damnit, after such a trip, I wanted something on the beach- preferably within walking distance to a meal and a bar. Because of an apparent surfing contest somewhere in the area, all the motels/hotels on the water were filled- all but the Embarcadero.
Considering the weather, the availability of motel/hotel rooms available in the area, it would not be unexpected to have the per-night price suddenly skyrocket. Instead, the rate went in the other direction: A large luxurious room with a full view of the bay and "rock", and fireplace (albeit a gas one), for under two bills. I should mention that a complimentary bottle of wine was thrown in. I don't know if this is the norm, or because of the previously described circumstances, but it was certainly welcomed.
After that, the sun broke through, everything dried out, the seals barked, and children played- really. No joke.
I can say that this is one of the most enjoyable places I've ever stayed at in my life. I hope to be able to return again, willingly- and not because weather and no vacancy signs forced it. Highly recommended if you're looking for a quiet weekend retreat, celebrating something special, or just want to do something exotic that's off the beaten path (all in the "off-season" of coarse).

Good rooms, great views.
I stayed here two nights for a Paso Robles wine adventure. The room was quality and clean.
I recommend you request a room on the top floor as the flooring is very noisy.

My secret little hide-a-way on the central coast.
Whenever I need a little escape I head down here. I've been going to Embarcadero Inn for about 6 years or so now. Rooms are totally cozy, with a nice electric fireplace, great balcony with views of Morro Bay, and all-you-can-watch movie rentals from the main desk. They have 2 little hot tubs, nice and secluded. For about $100 a night, it's a steal.
Everything is super clean, beds are very comfy and HUGE. The only time we had a maintenance problem they were very responsive, apologetic, and gave us a free 2nd night.

Great place! Enjoyed my stay here immensely! Had a top story unit with a very private balcony overlooking the harbor. The only reason for 4 stars was their crappy wirless system that was almost nonexistent, they tried to repair it but I guess somehting was wrong wit their router. But don't let that stop you!
I stayed here one night in November with my husband and it was nice. Unfortunately it rained so I can't say we walked around much, but the room was great with a little kitchenette, fireplace and balcony. The view of the bay was pretty. Their wireless internet does cut in and out but they mention in their little inn binder that interference from the close bay proximity keeps it from being reliable. Either way, it's a nice place to relax and unwind.
