Ice cold jager shots! :)
The Elysian Cheese burger with cheddar was pretty good! It was grilled onion, and was on a different type of bread, not the regular bun. it was great and big enough for two girls to share and get full.
The fries however were "ok" they will fill you... but you have to ask for the Skinny Fries, or they will give you big Steak fries... they were lacking in the flavor department.

It's been years since I've been to this brewery but as luck would have it, a friend's Birthday wish brought us to The Great Pumpkin Beer Festival last Saturday. We arrived at 2 or so and were efficiently directed to a line at the back. For $15 for we recieved tickets for 6 tastings and a nice little tasting glass, complete with Jack O Lantern Eyes. I'm a detail girl so this won points!
We walk out a short ramp into a Fall Oasis complete with haybales, corn stalks, pumpkins, gourds and people walking around in every color of orange as well as pumpkin-ish head toppers to include wigs and hats of every variety. It was an excellent welcome to fall for me!
I took one star off for the fact of the lines they really didn't have the staff to direct people and keep the mayhem in order and in most cases there was only 1 poor soul per station per 4 different varieties. It was similar to being on a drunken cattle drive. However the assortment was vast and delicious, my favorites being the Dark O The Moon, Caske, and the Elysian Pumpkin Ale. The squash pop was a wonderful caramel/vanilla delight as well!
At 4pm they tapped the Great Pumpkin of which was a massive gourd filled with double fermented wonderfully spiced Pumpkin Brew. I have posted a picture for you to marvel at it! Out of all we tasted, this was supreme! Delicious blend and balance of Brew, pumpkin and spice. Felt like Fall in a Glass!
We then decided a "Big People" glass was necessary and made our way back inside to enjoy a pint where there was definately a more organized chaos. We sat at the bar, spoke to some interesting characters, ate nachos and experienced great service from friendly folk even amist the Pumpkin Brew Storm.
I have to say this was the best introduction into Fall and I will be sure to make my way back next year, I recommend you do the same!

3 stars for your beer, Elysian! I had the bartender's sampler and it was fantastic. The names of the beers were provided on a card, but I only wish that there had been more literature available on them. The pumpkin was truly spectacular, like the love-child of a pumpkin pie and a Franziskaner Dunkel.
Minus 2 stars for your awful food. I ordered the black bean burger and paid the extra dollar for the sweet potato fries. The burger was cold and the bread was dry. A laughable amount of red pepper aioli had been tossed on the bun. The sweet potato fries were tasty, but soggy, and also not hot.
I like hot food and cold beer. Elysian was only able to deliver one of those things...

I love the pepperjack cheese nachos at this place, and nearly every beer they have here is delicious. In particular, the Immortal IPA and the Perseus Porter. If it's available, the Great Pumpkin is by far my favorite pumpkin beer, with a much bolder taste than the Night Owl Pumpkin Ale (which is still a good beer).
The Elysian Brew Co is probably my favorite place to hang out in the city. You will NOT find better beer anywhere else. The construction of the place is interesting. I enjoy looking at the functional decor of it all(brew equipment, piping and conduits in the ceiling), as well as the rotating art on the walls while I'm having a beer. The food is good, but you go here for the beer for sure.
I've never had a single issue with service here, aside from it being awesome! I usually sit at the bar, and the service is always super fast and genuine. The bartenders are all incredibly friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable about what they serve. They are more than happy to offer samplers and answer any questions you may have about the beer. Cheers to them.
The crowd is pretty cool there. More often than not, I wind up meeting interesting people at the bar that I wind up talking to for what seems to be hours. There is a steady flow of beautiful women that doesn't hurt either.
All in all, the Elysian rocks. Blows the rest of the local brewing companies out of the water.
On my visit to Seattle, I was staying in Downtown and wanted to get away from the grid to get some after-dinner drinks. From DT, its a short cab ride, but I wouldn't recommend walking unless you're wearing your walking shoes and are willing to hump up a hill.
Because I have a perpetual affinity with college towns, I instantly fell in love with the place when I opened the door. It gave me a college vibe, but not in the 'frat bro' sense... sort of in an artsy and chill way. My buddy and I caught up to the rest of our group and the waitress helping them quickly took our drink orders. I spotted 'barleywine' on the menu and got the Cyclops.
I enjoyed my friends company but after a couple servings of Cyclops, I ended up just smiling and nodding because I was so faded and felt like a fish bowl was on my head... I couldn't hear anything they were saying. I was so faded, but so happy. Thanks Elysian Brewing Co., you gave us a great spot to drink and hang out.

God I go to a lot of brewerys/bars. Am I an alcoholic? Lets assume so for now until further evidence vindicates me.
Elysian brewery is pretty rad. I was here for a pumpkin beer fest (yeah big whoop wanna fight about it?). It was seriously chillax. They had some great brews, got to talk to the people brewin' (and a pourin') and it was so low key.
The food was pretty good. The hamburger was great, even though it was on chibata.. cibatta.. ciabota.. SQUARE BREAD.
They had one beer, I think called Call O' The Moon (it has a werewolf) which I affectionately renamed "Lycan Ale".
Parking is cap hill parking, so prepare for that.
It's been awhile since we'd been to the Elysian.
Craving a salad of some sort, we drove there last nite and lo & behold...salads we got!
Corn cakes in a lovely tart spicy vinaigrette - TO. DIE. FOR.
Tuscan salad - feta, olives, marinated red onions, giant pepper croutons, and grilled chicken - HOLY GOD.
Vegan black bean soup - thick, garlicky, and so good.
Tofu salad - noodles, soy, tofu, tasty goodness
I don't know if the Elysian revamped their menu or what but everything on that list was ridonkulously good.
We'll be walking up there more often for sure!

the night owl pumpkin beer is delicious here, definitely worth the walk in the cold :)
i appreciate that this brewery offers quite a few vegetarian food options, something i generally don't expect from pub food. i ordered the mushroom reuben sans thousand island and found it to be "OK," although next time I think I'll go for their more exotic dishes (curry or tofu salad, mmm). With 5 of us, we all agreed that the food was definitely above average for a brewery, and we all enjoyed our beers. The service was alright, not amazing but not bad, and I have to give it up to our waitress for splitting the check 4 ways!
We'll definitely be back.

My husband and I are considering moving to Capitol Hill, solely to be walking distance from this little gem.
Okay, maybe not SOLELY...
It's time I say something about the Elysian! It's a pretty big space, so it's good for groups and parties; the first time I went was for a birthday party.
The food is pretty good, and the menu pretty accurately reflects the neighborhood. The vegan dishes are so tasty, so don't have doubts about what you're gonna eat if you don't eat meat.
When I have beer, I like me some wings. Yes, they have 'em. Not my favorite, though... Palermo makes my favorite wings.
Cocktails? I had two. One was a pomegranate martini, which was gross. I also had the Bartender's 'rita, which I loved, and it loved me back : )
The Elysian is a crowd pleaser in a town where we like our restaurant to also be our beer-brewer. I can hear the 'rita calling me back for sip after sip of vibrant, fruity liquor that is refreshing instead of lolli-poppy.
Oh, Elysian, I want you to me my neighborhood bar. You're stumbling distance between my school and apartment, and have lots of space for large parties.
I do heart your locally made beer and decent wine selection for a brewpub. Your menu sounds delicious and interesting. Curries, tacos, and pork verde! The problem is that everytime I try you out one more time, I am disapointed again by the food. Last time I got steak frites, hoping it might at least match the Tin Table's. It was more like a fast food pile of fries and well done steak-defnitely not worth $12. I'm afraid I'll have to frequent the other establishments on the hill that have great food and great beer.

The Elysian's been my go-to for tasty beer and tasty food since 2002. It's not the best at anything, but it's never bad, and the food's been improved significantly in the past couple of years from "a couple of good things and 100 bad ones" to quite the opposite. The avocado curry, when they have it, is rather divine. Mostly, i stick to sandwiches, and i strongly, strongly suggest you do, too.
I like their nachos. I like the peanut sauce. I, too, miss the Camden cheese steak. A lot. I also really, really like the beer. The Jasmine IPA is worth noting, but they're all great, from porter to pale. Service is usually okay, never outright bad.
It's a notch better than average. It's not the sine qua non of beer or brewpubs, but it's a reliable pint that's an easy walk from school.

The Elysian is our primary food stop on the "Let's drink everything the hill has to offer" tour.
I love the fact that they have field roast and those crazy good nacho appetizer thingies. I've stayed pretty safe with the menu, only ordering the same few things but it's consistently good every time. I really miss the Camden cheese steak though!
I've never had beer from here, but I hear it's pretty fantastic. Since I'm not a beer drinker I have no real insight on that scene. I also like that I can take the kidlet here while I have dinner and they bring her out a HUGE coloring book and crayons to keep her busy while she helps us chow down on our food. They're really very good with kids for the most part.
Service can be a bit hit or miss at times, especially depending on when you go. Late night I never have a problem, but when I simply go for dinner there's been a couple of "eh" experiences.
Regardless, I still prefer this place due to its ability to please a large portion of whatever group I'm with at the time and I definitely recommend it to people looking for a place to eat with reasonable prices.

Feh.
I used to love the Elysian. I came in about once a week, brought friends there, even largish parties. The service was always excellent, the beers very fine and the burgers incredibly tasty.
After a long time away from the city, I decided to have lunch at my favorite old place. I stood at the door for 10 minutes while the insufferably hipster staff assumed a variety of languid poses, completely indifferent to my presence. The place wasn't even all that full. I went elsewhere. I'm not sure that anybody noticed.
It's taken me a good long while to really piece together in my head how to describe my feelings on Elysian. What it comes down to is that the place is just not for me. But in reality, they're a fantastic brewery, and an important staple in the Seattle craft beer scene.
The beer really is of a very high caliber. It's always clean, and crafted to the highest quality. But in the long line of Elysian beers I've had over the years, only a few stand out as being something I truly enjoyed; The ESB, Jasmine IPA, Night Owl Pumpkin (actually brewed by New Belgium, whom they are partnered with from what I understand), and the Loki Lager (which seems to be hard to come across). But don't let my lack of enthusiasm for most of their offerings deter you, they have a very, very long list of beers in constant rotation. I don't believe there is another brewery in the area that has the variety Elysian has.
For those of you who are wanting to try the beer with dinner at the pub, you might want to reconsider. Quite simply, the food is not that awesome. If I were to suggest anything, it'd be to stick with munching on some appetizers while you enjoy your brews. The food simply does not compare to the quality cuisines at some of our other brewing establishments.
If at first you don't like Elysian, try try again. The variety is vast, and there's something for everyone. Pleasing every beer lover is not an easy feat, but with the wide selection, you'll find something, I'm sure of it.

Beer, beer, beer = 5 stars.
Immortal IPA is heaven sent. It's just as hoppy and biting as a west coast IPA should be, but it isn't overwhelmingly bitter. Jasmine IPA, on the other hand, is probably served on the ferry across the River Styx. I kid, I kid. It's also a well-done style, but the jasmine note just isn't for me. Reminds me too much of Chinese restaurants. Somehow, in my head, images of dim sum and Cascade hops just don't go hand in hand.
Anyway, if the beer's so damn good, then why only the 3 stars? Dude. Seriously. The food? Not so impressive. Don't even waste your time ordering the crab cakes -- I had a hankering, and still had that hankering when I left. Accompanying sauces are good, but it's just not the worth it for the crab itself. My good-natured companion Fobert ordered the chicken curry, which was actually pretty darn good, rice and all. Good sized serving too. I also snuck in a side order of wings which were okay. Small-ish, but passable taste-wise. Fries were fries.
Anyway, I was extremely excited to check this brewery out and I'm glad I wasn't disappointed with the brews. I would have loved to stay and check out more of the beer board offerings. However, don't bother eating here. Just don't.
Just stopped in here for a Beer and a Burger
even though I live just blocks away for the last 3 plus years I have never been in here before today
the Beer a "Loser Pale Ale" was tasty I had them add a lemon too it, it hit the spot on a hot afternoon and it want well with my Burger
the Burger was a Med Rare Cheese Burger with Pepper Jack Cheese,
they also put saute onion on that were in a beer sauce / gravy it kinda tasted like Salisbury steak sauce, the Burger was nice and juicy and had lots of flavor, they also put a seasoned Mayo on it
Now the Fries are the star of the show to me they tasted like fresh cut fries even though I was told they are not
now for the down side they do not have any happy hour specials, and even with how good the burger and fries were they were not $9 good to me, and for that reason I won't go back for food, an $5 for a pint it was a good beer but not that good in my eyes
so to sum it all up I wasn't missing anything other than there fries, it was good food but way over priced, the service was top notch in my eyes, I sat at the bar
I won't be back

The Wise ESB and Immortal IPA are great beers. This is a great local brewery and is worth stopping by and having some beers. I haven't actually eaten at any of them but I have had many a beer. All three locations are very cool, but unique in their own way. The one on 1st Ave by Quest is more formal, the one on Capitol Hill (the main one) is funky and has a bit of a hipster attitude but without pretension.
No matter what though, the beer is excellent. They have over 20 of their own on tap. My girlfriend had the Daedalus Stout which was also very good. Their seasonal Loser Pale Ale is also excellent. I would also not hesitate to go eat there at any time. The pubs are all very clean and have a great atmosphere. The wait staff are also very nice.

So I still think the service tends to be slow. But I've become quite fond of their steak tacos. Slightly overpriced for my taste, but still yummy. And this place is a hangout for a lot of the kids from SU Law so I end up here a lot.
The point of updating though is that I went the other night and had their Seasonal Mushroom Ruben sandwich. OMG! It was delicious. It was messy to eat, but so yummy. It had gruyere cheese on it. It had yummy kraut. It had tons of mushrooms. I was in heaven.
Go here, have the sandwich, leave happy (but not quickly).

I feel bad about not giving Elysian five stars. I LOVE Elysian; love the whole aesthetic, their philosophy, their creativity and daring, and maybe most of all the fact that they're one of the very few new, hip brewers that has not made genuflection Before The Great Hop God their raison d'etre. Elysian knows their way around malt and I appreciate the hell out of that. It would be so flippin' easy for them just to over-hop everything, win all the beer awards, and sit atop that Three Floyds/Port Brewing tier of American craft brewers, comfortable, fat, and complacent. Instead, they're always trying things; always pushing their own envelope. And, sometimes it, uh, doesn't work all that well, frankly. I've had an Elysian or two that just didn't do it for me. But, considering the number of beers in their repertoire, they carry a Tony Gwynn-level batting average.
Their outstanding achievements, IMHO, are the completely stunning, totally-unique "Avatar" Jasmine IPA. It's hard to express just how much in open-mouthed awe I am of whomever thought up this stuff. Take a bale of jasmine flowers and toss 'em into a hop boil. Most people are content to simply SMELL jasmine. How great for us that somebody over there was munching on 'em. The Avatar is a remarkable collection of flavors, with the Chinook, Glacier, and Amarillo hops bouncing off the flowers to create some really exotic flavors. It's wildly drinkable; not at all the sinus-clearing endurance contest some cutting-edge IPAs have become. And Elysian is now brewing it year-round!
Their two darks, "Perseus" Porter and "Dragonstooth" Stout, are among the very top tier of all NW darks, both showing beautiful chocolate/coffee/molasses notes, with hints of cigar box and smoke running through. The Dragonstooth is, along with Rogue's "Shakespeare" Stout, the richest and creamiest NW stout I've ever tried.
My ONLY complaints with Elysian are two: their Elysian Fields Pale and winter seasonal, "Bifrost", are, to me, two of the least-interesting beers of their types that I've found around the Northwest. The Pale is over-hopped and almost acrid and the Bifrost seems to be an ale that doesn't have a clear focus, Its "warm 'n' fuzzy" winter-warmer aspects are undercut by a rather harsh hops profile that, to me, drags it back from that welcoming character that denotes a great cold-weather seasonal.
My solution has been elegantly simple; Just don't drink those two...and enjoy the rest of what is a truly magnificent, thoughtful, superbly-crafted roster of great ales.

I had a few pitchers o' porter here the other day and they were totally delish! Our waitress kept them coming without delay, which was very much appreciated :) Servers who don't stay on top of beer pouring are not my friend, so I'm glad I didn't have to deal with that.
The space is large and open- just the way I like it. My friends had a pita platter and said it was good, but I haven't yet tried the food. Only thing is, they're vegan and ordered it without feta, and while scraping up the last of it, they found a lone piece of cheddar cheese. POOR VEGANS.

Im really not a fan of this place. The food is over priced and only so so. The service is slow, but when you get it very polite.
The only draw I see here is you can get groups of up to 16 people in here at once if you get the back table like we did on my birthday. And there is a sweet deck in back for smoking.

Ah, Elysian ... why can't you be within walking distance to my apartment instead of the Pike Pub? Sure, maybe you aren't the best pub I've been to in Washington and maybe you don't have the best beer or food. But damn it if you don't do what you do really well. I enjoy the uniquely Capitol Hill/Seattle atmosphere. Their take on beer is refreshing and they pair nicely with many of the tasty menu items. I don't make it there as often as I'd like but when I do, a good time is almost a certainty.
I've been to the Tangletown Elysian many a time, but this was my first time here. It's a much bigger space but has a similar feel. There's lots of interesting stuff to look at, including the flag collection hanging from the ceiling and the fake (I'm fairly certain at least) skeleton prominently displayed in the dining area.
The beer, of course, was great. I had one of the rotating brews: The Loser (there was some adjective in the name too, but I can't remember it). It's confirmed--just like in my past dating experiences, I'm a big fan of losers. ha!
I sampled the corn and black bean cakes that others in my party ordered as appetizers. Definitely yum, especially the bean one.
The burger I had was just alright. It's probably my fault for ordering it well done--it tasted a bit charred. Mmm, carcinogens! But the caramelized onions and Strangely Orange Sauce that were also on the bun--nay, the ciabatta bread--were good, so I'm assuming a less-blackened burger would be tasty.
I had a salad instead of fries, which I *almost* regretted when I snagged one off someone else's plate, but the greens were a good choice after all, especially with the pomegranate vinaigrette dressing.
The service was a bit slow since it was a busy Friday night, but they took the liberty to split the check up without even asking, which was nice. They also didn't charge a gratuity even though we had 8 people, also nice. I'm sure they got a bigger tip that way.
I still like the Tangletown one better, thought. Just because it's more fun to say.

I just got up from my nap that I HAD to take after giving this place my 2nd and LAST chance.
The food is greasy, heavy, crappy, and makes you feel like you already have a damn hangover.
I noticed that most of the patrons here are LARGE & you will be too if you eat here.
It's all fatty with bad seasoning.
I REALLY LOVE THE SPACE. It's cool and wonderful; I really want to like this place, but I go to restaurants for FOOD. Yes, the beers are great, but can't the same thought go into the food? Perhaps pairing once food is improved?

Been here twice now, six months apart. Nice, clean decor, service was okay. Coworkers were looking for a pub after work and this seemed like it fit the bill.
It's a brewing company, so I expect their beer to be good, and it is - when it's available. Both times they were out of at least three items on the seasonal selection (and they were exactly the ones I wanted to try). The seasonal beers is a long list and the waiters seem to have a hard time keeping track of what's available that day. Range of the list also varies considerably - second time I was there, they had a beer brewed with peppercorns (wanted to try it, but they ran out). When I did manage to get a beer that was available I was pleased with it.
I can't say the same about the food. Appetizers are okay, but the entrees I had there were overpriced and disappointing. How can you possibly mess up bangers and mash? Well, somehow they did: gluey potatoes that weren't properly mashed, tasteless onion gravy, and nothing that justified what they were charging for the dish.
Four stars for beer, two stars for food. Three average.
I work within a 10 minute walk of the Capitol Hill Elysian and have been a regular for a few years now. It is with a heavy heart that I must report that the quality of the food has really dropped in recent months. The food was never as good as at some of the non-breweries in the area but we found solace in the superiority of the beer. No longer. I hope the management reads these reviews; I ate recently at Elysian Fields and was quite pleased with my meal. I hate, hate, hate the thought of not frequenting the Capitol Hill location, as Elysian beer is perhaps my favorite (Maritime and Big Time are right up there as well), but I haven't had a decent meal there in months..
JASMINE IPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great nachos. Huge pitchers not your average size. Even my Dad loved the vegetarian corn cakes he ordered (which is strange). It is such a great space, with high ceilings and a lot of open seating. Pricing is typical cap hill 8-10 a plate. Ohh and don't forget the Cyclops Barley Wine when available! I love the food combinations they have, they don't change out the menu much but some of the pairings they choose are great, like a peanut dipping sause for you nacho, sounds weird, but it's great.

I'm mainly reviewing the beer ... because Elysian is a brewery. But the hummus plate we ordered was a decent appetizer.
I liked Elysian's pale ales, both their flagship Elysian Fields and the Loser Pale Ale (which may have been a seasonal). They were easy drinking but tasty. The Immortal IPA was also a good solid beer with aromatic hops.
Their other offerings vary from acceptable to forgettable, but with at least three good beers to their name I would definitely recommend a trip here.
Love the space here. LOVE it!! It is open and airy with comfortable seating in both the bar and the dining area. The service seems to lack here and there but for the most part the staff are nice and helpful. I couldn't put my finger on why I never go out of my way to come here until just this past Friday. The project "De-face" (an installation of Phil Collins records redone in several independent interpretations by local artists), was on display and I was very excited to see them.
I showed up famished and definitely thirsty, found myself a menu quicker than you can count and decided on nachos and a stout. I really love the dark beer here. Rich, molty and perfect for the rare hot evenings we seldom experience here in Seattle. I've had the burgers and some other items off the menu but they've always been huge, bland and caked with grease. Not my idea of a good time.
The nachos came out pretty quickly but my disappointment was even quicker. We asked for the chili sauce on the side and instead the chips were covered in it. I was famished and said f&#% it. I don't know how this still happens and was clueless that it does actually still happen but the cheese was only on the top of the chips. There was nothing throughout except warn, soggy chips after you got past the top layer. Who jacks up nachos? Elysian does.
My advice is to get something to eat only if you are starving or super drunk. Definitely test some of their darker ales and sit in the back of the bar area b/c there's an excellent breeze that comes through from the back door on a warm day. Oh, and check out the Phil Collins records if they haven't moved on yet. You won't be sorry you did. Promise.
The baseline Elysian; boring food, decent (but not great) beer, and not much else.
This one features a surprisingly few number of tables, a big bar, and slow service.
I just don't get you, Elysian. If you want to have $10+ dollar sandwiches and little entres, at least make them something that would be desirable to eat.

The steak frites alone, at least on this day, merit a four star review. They almost became poutine-esque by the end. The bleu-cheese and bleu-cheese sauce coated the tender steak and then managed to melt and get all over the fries. It was very tasty. Though $12 seems a little bit high for a plate of fries, a little bit of meat and cheese. Also had chicken nachos and those were good, though as seems to be the case with all of Elysian's food, overly expensive.
The Avatar Jasmine IPA was really nice and I have, in the past, enjoyed their pumpkin beers. And my wife had their sweet tea and it was delicious. Though I enjoyed my beer, I kind of wish I woudl've had sweet tea instead.
Service was decent, nothing amazing, about as friendly as you can expect from a hipster girl in a "Defend Capitol Hill" shirt.

I am so sick of this place. 75% of the time they overcharge your bill.
Like tonight we had a large group of about 12 people. 2 people ordered drinks from the bar and paid cash at the bar. They charged us for the two beers. Luckily I caught it because they seem to always "make mistakes." The waitress came running back from the bar with $12 and we noticed we were $10 short.
I end up going here about once a month because my friends always want to go out late and get food and drink but I refuse to go here anymore. I've even had them overcharge me with only 3 people.
It isn't just one waiter or waitress, I'm pretty sure it is just about all of them. The food is great, the beer is overpriced but good, but I can't justify going here considering how often they trump up the bill.
Beer is great..service is awesome..Food taste like it was a second thought. Don't come here thinking you're going to get anything but awesome brews.

Great Beer and good times! A Seattle rendition of a classic pub.
Great beer and average food.… Read more »
Their menu just keeps getting smaller and smaller; it's down to one page now. I don't think they even have wings anymore, and definitely no fish and chips.
Still got the beer though...

Yeh. Just got back from this place about 20 minutes ago. The service was awful and unapologetic about it. The Elysian burger I ordered medium rare was cooked well done and the bun was spongy. Not to mention at 9$ it's not much bigger than a Dick's burger and I can't say it really tastes special either.
If you like crappy awkward service with food that will fill you with apathy this is the place for you.

The Black Bean Cakes here no longer come with guacamole. Boooo. Hisss...
They're now covered in a weird, yellow sauce that lacks flavor.
It's still okay here- the service is good, as is the beer and the fare is decent, but the black bean cakes were fantastical the way they were. Now, they're just bland and sad.
*tear*
