I live closeby to Elsa's and sometimes it is the only place open for takeout, so I end up eating here more than I might even like. I have tried much of the menu, and I'd give it very mixed reviews.
    1. The entrees are decent. I think they are overpriced for what they serve, and its usually very heavy (I know Italian isn't exactly known for being light, but I think this is more heavy than normal). Not especially inventive... but decent.
    2. The sandwiches and wraps are really good, and I love getting them for takeout while at work. I especially like the mediterranean chicken wrap and the honey mustard chicken.
    3. The pizza. Where to begin with the pizza. I initially gave this review 3 stars and then changed it to 4 solely because of the pizza. It is one of the best in the city. It has delicious flat crust and fresh ingredients, order the Tuscany if you have any sense of food. I recently convinced my work to change our weekly pizza takeout place to Elsas and you might have thought I was a golden god during pizza hour. We haven't gone back since.
    4. The atmosphere: atrocious. No lighting, no decor, and a cranky waitstaff. I would highly recommend getting takeout (and they deliver)

This is a good solid place that's almost always near empty or filled with only Blue Plate Special type diners.

The food ranges from eh to really good-- I've gotten the baked haddock twice-- the first time it was outstanding and the second time it tasted like it might have been previously frozen.  Our waitress was very nervous and didn't ask us what we wanted for sides-- so when mine showed up with Spaghetti and sauce I was a little taken aback.  I don't like tomato sauce with my fish-- but it was good.

Overall-- this could be a great place, but it's menu is way too big and no restaurant this size can produce that many things with all fresh ingredients so the end result suffers.

Still a pretty good value and if you're looking for a stop on a Saturday night there is never a wait.

They have given the interior a facelift- new tables and good lighting. This place always felt like a cave before.

The service was friendly but not very prompt in responding.

The tortellini Matthew  was tasty. A cross between Alfredo and marraina sauce. The amount of spinach and chicken were slim. Too costly for the item.

I was greeted with a smile and a very friendly waitress on a Thursday night. The bread came warm and their oil dip is delicious! I got the veggie calzone and my bf got steak tips, medium. My calzone hade fresh veggies and was very good. The crust was crispy and not doughly like most places. Now the steak tips were ordered medium but came out 5 mins after the calzone and also well-done. But there was not much steak for the $16! Still surprisingly delicious but I would have liked my meals at the same time. It also got very busy mid-way through the meal so we waited a WHILE to even get a check. Over all, the food was very homey and yummy so don't expect gourmet but do expect to feel cozy and full.
TIPS: Turns out only one waitress on the weekdays even for dinner service. Also, tons of kids there so if you have a problem with noise or just little babies walking around then this place is not for you. Most important is that the entrance is in the back and the parking lot is accessed through the McDonald's side. The door facing the street is actually an emergency exit.

My dad said the oil and bread they gave us was the best he has ever had. His eggplant calzone was another matter. There was almost no eggplant, just lots of cheese. He said if they could just give him a nice piece of eggplant on that great bread he would have loved it. I got a grilled chicken sandwich on whole wheat bread. The chicken was dried out and tasteless and it was served on two pieces of plain bread, not a bun or bulkie like I though should come with a proper sandwich. Very disappointing. The only good meal was had by my sister. She got pasta with chicken, which she loved. So maybe the pasta dishes are the way to go here? The service was very good, and the place looked clean and well decorated, but it was the food that suffered.

I've gone here quite a few times when my parents have visited me at school, having tried it after a recommendation from a family friend. The food is really good and fantastically priced. Their lemon-mint salad dressing is just wonderful, and everything we have ordered from there (pizza, pasta, salads, sandwiches) have tasted great.

When I lived in Worcester, this was one of the places my boss and I would frequent for our "working lunches."  Okay, so we mostly just chatted, but it was a two person office...not much went on that we weren't both heavily involved in to begin with!

Anyway, I haven't lived in Worcester since July 2008, and let me tell you, I still drool thinking about Elsa's eggplant parmesan hoagie with sweet potato fries.  The fries come with brown sugar sour cream, which sounds weird, but tastes amazing.  (I have made knock-offs of this at home, and it's also super simple!)  There is just something about Elsa's that makes my heart pitter-patter.  I had never been a fan of eggplant parm until I tried theirs...chopped up crispy bits of eggplant help keep your food in place (as opposed to giant slices which you might pull off the bread trying to bite it!).

When I make it back to MA, this will be one of the first places I hit.

We eat here every Friday for lunch.  Best chicken and broccolli and chicken meditranian wraps.  Family owned business with the owner from town makes you feel welcomed.

I've eaten here twice in the past month.

The first time I ordered several lunches for a work meeting and the food was ready for pickup in 20 minutes.  All the orders were place correctly and everybody said their food was pretty good.  I had the blondie sandwich which was only OK, the corned beef was kind of bland and there was too much coleslaw on it, and the slaw was too sweet.  The fries, however, were excellent.

The second time, I picked up a Route 9 pizza, which sounded delicious, with pepperoni, sliced meatballs, sausage, caramelized onions and red peppers.  Now Elsa's ran those ads for months touting their new thin-crust pizzas and how amazing they are.  I was quite disappointed when I got it home.  The crust was undercooked in many spots, bordering on doughy.  The meatballs were flavorless, as was the sausage, and the onions were barely sweated, not even close to being caramelized and sweet.  Such a shame.

Fantastic food at fantastic prices.  Their chicken noodle soup is among the best I've ever had.  All their soups are homemade.  The only thing that would have made it better was if it was a little warmer, but the flavor was amazing.

I had a turkey club with sweet potato fries.  The fries were cooked to perfection.  My wife had a chicken salad wrap with apples, cranberries, and lettuce.  She loved it.

The portions are large.  One woman at the table behind us ordered a salad with chicken and had to bring half of it home with her.

Great portions, great prices, great staff.  Do yourself a favor and stop in.

I have tried Elsa's and this place a few times and unfortunately have to warn people that the people who run/own these are very rude and do not comprehend the concept of cleanliness.
They do not wear gloves and actually will hold your entire piece of bread in their hands - gross !
The food is usually old. They refuse to use the freshest pan of eggplant parm or whatever. AVOID ! Gross.

We tried Elsa's last night and weren't impressed. Kind of surprised that our experience wasn't that enjoyable given the positive reviews thus far.

I found the entrees to be OK but about double what you would pay for a dish of similar quality at other local family restaurants.

We ordered a small sausage pizza, chicken parm, chicken ellen and chicken fingers/fries kids meal. The two entrees were just OK, but again overpriced. The best dish was the kids meal which ironically our toddler didn't like (go figure). The pizza was probably the biggest disappointment as it tasted like Totinio's frozen pizza with its flavorless sausage flakes... definitely not what I would consider a good thin crust pizza.

Bill was $50, ($60 with tip) and that was with two sodas (no alcohol).

On the upside, the service was very good.

I have always been a fan of Elsa's Bushel and Peck  at the Summit in Worcester but I have never been to the addition to the family in Shrewsbury.  Yesterday I had my chance when I took my Mom out for lunch.  She uses a walker so that was an important part of getting her in and making her comfortable which was no problem at all.  The decor is simple with a little touch of flair here and there but not much more.  Could do with a little more style rather than the easy way of decorating....plastic flowers are not acceptable...sorry.
We sat down and looked at he menu, some of it was the same as the one in Worcester but with more a meal type ordering...i.e. french fries, cole slaw etc. along with our sandwiches.   We both ordered the Reuben sandwich which was absolutely scrumptious!!  With our sandwiches we ordered sweet potato fries that were crunchy and was full of sweet potato flavor unlike some I've had that tasted like bland oil and nothing else.  We were both very happy with both the food and the service.  the price wasn't bad and my Mom got to take 1/2 her sandwich home....but she managed to mau those fries down!!  I'll be back.

This is the place to go for ice cream and sandwiches in Shrewsbury.  Doesn't look like much from the outside but very cute on the inside.  50's style with a nice counter to sit at or some small tables.  They are VERY generous with the amount of ice cream - a kiddie is very large.  Chicken salad is a great sandwich.  A little gem!

Well let me think...I've had the pizza which I have to say did not impress me.  But what I did find was they have a couple of dishes that are just outstanding. The chicken marsala was wonderful.  And our favorite has to be the chicken carbonarra.  One of the best we've had in a very long time. You've got to try it. And I believe it's only $8.00 or something like that Mon-Wed.

Have only ever gotten pizza here but zomg it's good pizza.

thin crust, interesting toppings, and ready fast.

it took a while for us to find a good thin crust pizza place in Worcester that isn't on the other side of town, and this fits the bill perfectly.

I love Elsa's Mediterranean salad. Delish. But today I went there during on my short lunch break. I wanted to relax for a few and have my salad.

Well to keep it brief,  I sat for 10 min and never even got approached by wait staff. So I left. Hungry, and angry.

Very disappointed. Ill never go back.  Boo!

Let me preface this review by saying any pizza place that has thin crust pizza is A-O.K. in my book.  I'm all set with deep dish pizza (can you even call it pizza?). One of the best thin crust pizza joints in the Worcester area.

We finally stopped to try out Elsa's Eatery  with a gift certificate from http://restaurant.com. The menu ranges from sandwiches and pizza to italian style entrees. We ordered 1/2 salads and entrees. Everything was delicious and the service was great. We will be back!

First tried this place with a friend's buy one get on coupon and liked it.  Returned with the husband and we both liked our meals.  Went again with a new coupon and again, enjoyed our meal.  Have had seafood pasta dish, chicken parm, calamari, and pizza.  ALL were tasty.  The prices are the same-ish as what everyone else charges for italian pasta plates and we found the pizza to be huge and tasty for a fair price.  The place is small and not at all fancy but the food is tasty and worht the price.  I am having a hard time thinking of where I can get bread and butter and a huge pasta dish with shrimp for any lower price????  It's just a local small business, and I will be back :)  I would have no problem recommending it to others.

I'm a big fan of thin crust pizza, and Elsa's does it pretty well. I really enjoyed the Pesto-licious pizza. I'll have to go back as the idea of a spaghetti and meatballs pizza intrigues me so.
