Elmer's offers pretty standard diner fare for the most part. Their breakfast always hits the spot after a night out. They have a large lunch/dinner menu that is what you would expect from a "home cookin" type of place. Nothing exciting but nothing terrible either.
One turn off is that they have an open kitchen that looks kind of dingy - grease splattered on the walls, etc. Not very appetizing, especially if you're sitting at the bar. It shouldn't take that much to clean that up! -

I like Elmers. I'm from the west coast, and only come through Escanaba once a year on the way to deer camp. But for the last 5 years, my dad and I have made it a point to stop at Elmers on the way through town, usually twice, once for dinner, and once from breakfast.
This is middle American 'comfort food', and they do it well. I LOVE their Mushroom and Swiss burger. I like the fact that the place is family run, and you can tell that the family is actively involved. Its always clean and decorated for the holidays. The staff is prompt and friendly. I noticed that they have eliminated smoking in the past couple years, a good move.
I dinged them down a star for the coffee. Pretty weak. But then again I'm from Seattle, and were kind of picky about our coffee. -

Boring old-people food. Then again, if you're an old person who likes boring food, you might like Elmer's.
