One of Elliston Vineyards' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I'm a little hesitant to write a review for this winery considering I haven't been there in nearly 10 years. I also have to give it 5 stars because of the memories.
This was the place we chose to get hitched at. At the time, we were living in Palo Alto with family located in the East Bay, Santa Cruz area, San Francisco and Santa Rosa. For a nice wedding in a wine country setting, this place was very reasonably priced and felt like it was out in the middle of nowhere (which we liked). Beautiful setting, very good service. The food was good, the champagne (ok sparkling wine) was amazing. My father-in-law bought us more of it in subsequent years, including right before we moved back to San Diego, and it was just as good as we remembered it.
The wedding coordinator did a great job of running the wedding even when the weather took a turn for the worse at the last minute and we had to switch to an indoor setting. Everybody we talked to seemed to really enjoy themselves. We certainly did.
I highly recommend this place for weddings, especially if you want it at a winery and don't want to go all the way to Napa. Elliston was also much cheaper than having a wedding at any of the Napa valley wineries. We know because we priced it out!

Tucked away in the itty-bitty community of Sunol, Elliston Vineyards is an excellent winery escape without having to take the trip up to wine country.
They have a variety of whites, reds, and even sparkling and beer to taste... FOR FREE!!! Staff is very friendly without being pushy salespeople. Bought a few bottles for a very reasonable price ($12-$15/ each) and the beer was in the process of being bottled for local sale.. wahoo!
They were preparing for a wedding during the visit; seemed to be a gorgeous location for a special event.
Great place, check it out , and support local wineries!

Beautiful winery, old world charm to it. Sparkling wine was my favorite! I tasted a hint of jasmine. I agree, you can't beat the free tastings!
I absolutely LOVE their Sparkling Wine!

We spent the weekend going to the last few Livermore area wineries we hadn't been to before. Really had an enjoyable trip to Elliston. The wines were very good and very reasonably priced. We walked away with a couple of bottles including a very nice sparkling wine. The staff (Doug) was very friendly and knowledgeable and added a lot to the experience. The old mansion that houses the tasting room is worth the trip all by itself if you're into that sort of thing (and I am!). Doug told us about the events they host and I'm sure we'll make our way to some of those. Unlike the other two Sunol wineries, Elliston is easy to get to, right off 680 and close to the small but charming 'downtown'. Check it out!

Hard to dispute with free tastings, and the staff here is laid back and friendly. Only knock on this otherwise 5 star experience was the tasting room seems a bit run down which can use a new counter and some new floors to really make the old property shine!
If I had written this 10 years ago, I would have given them 4 stars. We used to go there often when we lived in the area. First off, it's beautiful. Lovely grounds, historic old house. We used to go there at least every couple months back then and buy cases on special. They always had really good deals on older wines they needed to sell, and they were still quite drinkable.
After we moved, we still had friends living on the same street the winery is on, so we still visited every now and then. Since we have moved to the Santa Cruz area, our visits are less often, but we still pop in about once a year. Most of their grapes come from the Santa Cruz Mountains.
We are members of their 200 club, which means if you have purchased $200 worth of their wine in a visit, you get a little laminated card which entitles you to buy at a discount. I don't remember how much it is. About 2 years ago, we did find that much of the wine worth buying. There was a wine called the Captains something or other that we liked and bought a few bottles of, along with a case of a Merlot on special. Hence we were in the club.
The last time we went was disappointing. They have no new releases, and the wine they have is just getting older. I don't know why they haven't put out any new releases, it is very strange. They used to. And I don't think they are closing down or anything. I asked the tasting room steward, and he told me they had some but it was not ready yet. Hmmm, are they trying to sell off what they have? We only bought a couple bottles. One was a Pinot that we had not tasted, but I had remembered that they had a nice Pinot years ago, so I bought 2 bottles of the one they had in stock now. I would tell you the year, but the bottle we have left is buried at the bottom of the drink now rack we keep in the kitchen. The first one was not good, and we are in no hurry to bring this one out. It will be a 3rd bottle wine, which means after we drink a couple bottles (when we have friends over), we will bring this one out. It's definitely not first or second bottle worthy.
I hope they put out something new before I go back. I know I will, eventually.

Elliston Vineyards is an awesome wedding venue. I attended a friend's wedding here a few years ago and it was such a beautiful occasion. Looking back, I cannot think of a single detail that was overlooked. The ceremony/reception went through seamlessly. The Hors d'oeuvres (Stilton Blue Cheese and Grilled Pear Crostini, Seared Pork Pot Stickers with plum sauce, and Spicy Italian Sausage Stuffed Mushroom) were all divine. The main course was served buffet style (Grilled Filet Mignon, Cabernet reduction, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, fresh grilled vegetables, and more). I'm glad I was pregnant at the time because I was able to pig out on all of that yummy food! Wish I would have been able to sample more of the wine though. I savored the sip that I took for the toast. This was one of those magical occasions that I will look back on fondly forever!
Everything was so beautiful and the food was so delicious!

A winery located just outside of Sunol. Specializes in big peppery cabs which can be hit or miss to me. Located in a historic manor, site also serves for many weddings. Tasting room decent but winemkaers have not been present when I've been there, which is not the norm for most wineries in the Livermore area.

A hidden gem. I had no idea the Livermore area had so many good quality vineyards. The tasting room is situated in a historic mansion which really feeds into the tasting experience. Very friendly and informative winemakers keep you company during the tasting. The grounds are also really beautiful and peaceful. A great retreat from the hussle/bussle of work. Oh and the complimentary tasting also helps :)

We just held a wedding reception at Elliston on October 4, 2008. It was absolutely beautiful. The reception room was perfect for 110-120 people. The room is almost square so no one feels left out. There was plenty of room to dance and still move about. The food was delicious and the service was great. Scott's Restaurant did our flowers as well as the food and they did a wonderful job. All our guests commented on an outstanding reception.

a wonderfully hidden gem just outside the heart of livermore valley. i first found out about elliston vineyards after leaving wente vineyards catering department to work for my friend here. as i drove into this classic site in the heart of sunol my mouth dropped in awe. the grounds are sooo pretty and the historic victorian mansion was beautiful. elliston provides various winemaker dinners for different seasons and occasions and has the facilities to hold your wedding or other prime event. i really loved to cook for elliston. i had some of my best couple of years on these grounds! the staff is the best and donna the owner will always be one of my favorite people to know. the wine is incredible as well. my fav is the captains claret(merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon) u really gotta try this one. the wine bar is a great casual mellow room to sample all the favorites. if u need a place to hold an event give elliston a try and tell em i sent ya!
