This is the kind of bar we all wish we could open.  Great beer in bottles plus a a serve yourself keg.  Delicious sandwiches, great hole-in-the-wall atmosphere and friendly owners behind the bar.

Mike and Pete are two of the friendliest guys in Atlanta. If you aren't a regular, you will feel like one by the time you leave. I found the Pub through my visits every other Tuesday with the Atlanta Photographer's Guild but now whenever I am up in Atlanta, I am always sure to stop in for a Mad Italian and a mojito.
A definite stop if you are in town!

This is definitely a pub to visit.  It will be in a good location someday, especially as the area cleans up and matures.  Mike and Pete are great, fun guys to get to know.

Downside (or upside depending how you look at it), the place is small, particularly around the bar. Hard to order and move when there is a crowd.  Same for the patio area. The one thing you'd wish is more space, but that might take away from some of the appeal.

We popped in unannounced and uninitiated after the Castleberry Hill Art Stroll (and before the unfortunate No Mas experience). It feels like an "up north" bar - tiny, cozy, lots of regulars that don't give you dirty looks for interloping on their turf, but instead invite you into the fold.

I got my beers from the pay-by-the-honor-system keg o' Red Hook IPA, sat on a church pew and chatted with people in my group and it felt like home. Didn't eat, but after reading about the sammiches, I'll try it sooner rather than later. It's a bit out of the way for me, since I live in Decatur, but worth the trip based on my visit.

ESP rules.  It's family run.  Friendly to everyone, but especially those come back day after day. They name drinks after patrons.  They serve beer on the honor system.  The have Frank Zappa on the wall.  They are dog friendly.  The food is tasty and affordable, as are the drinks.

This is the quintessential American pub.

As far as pub's go this place is tops and the owners and folks who work here are as well! I go back and forth on my favorites, but love The Ultimate and pressed ham & cheese. If you're looking for a great place to kick back with a beer and a sandwich or a place to chill with friends after work it's easy-peasy :). There's no pretense here, which is really great. There are bikers, babes and Boars Head ;). Plenty of street parking tucked next to fire station #1. Make sure to check out the pics of the original building before Mike & Pete turned it into the awesome space it is today.

Yes, as good as it gets. I discovered this place through the Atlanta Photographers Guild. If this place was in my 'hood I'd be here 2-3 times a week easily. They mix great drinks, a great selection of beers, and bar food that makes you forget that you're in the bar. My hands down favorite is the Mad Italian sandwich on ciabatta bread. Mike grows his own herbs. Did I mention that this is a bar? Just go already :)

Mike is the man behind the bar, a friendly face who - as others have said - will make it a point to know you if he doesn't already.

The bar itself is cozy in a way that almost says "if you're not already a regular, you don't need to try to be".  There are approximately a dozen seats around the bar, another dozen or so on the patio and otherwise you're on your own with standing room or the bench/pew by the front window.

The drinks are as reliable and delicious as the Mad Italian (on chabatta with spinach and hot) and if you happen in at just the right time you might also be subjected to the shot of the day.

I came to find Elliot St. b/c of the APG and I'm thankful for it.  I love shooting here, eating here and yukkin' it up with Mike.

Cool Atmosphere.  Laid back libators, however, it smelled like a northern basement.

Oh yeah, they forgot to pump the A/C!

So, Mike and Pete have recently expanded the already awesome beverage selection, and they just rock as people. The pub has a great local atmosphere and Two Wheel Tuesday is a total plus. They also let that crazy camera club meet there on Tuesdays - it's crazy.

Love, love, love Elliott Street Pub - it's a reason to go downtown.

This is what I love about yelp. Elliott Street Deli and Pub is RIGHT BEHIND MY BUILDING and I never knew it existed, but due to my list of places to eat downtown, someone who may or may not be affiliated with Elliott Street Deli sent me a yelp message and pointed me there, accurately describing it as "right across the bridge." Yesterday I finally got to try it for lunch. I didn't even know there was a bridge behind my building, but lo and behold, the little red building was indeed right across it. Less than a 5 minute walk. Awesome.

Even aside from the fact that it is mind-bogglingly close to where I work, I love the chill and friendly feel, and everyone working there is awesome. An Ultimate, served hot, was the favorite, and everyone seemed to love their sandwich. The two of us who ordered diet cokes asked for a couple of refills while we were there and then got the bartender to make us one to go when we left, which he happily did. A solid lunch experience, and it would likely be even better for a drink after work.

A few things to be aware of:
1) there is not much seating, and the only table seating is outdoors. So it's not that suitable for larger (6+) groups, but you can make it work, and they'll sure as heck try to help you.
2) there is only one vegetarian item on the menu-a tomato mozzarella type sandwich, and not much room for creating anything else vegetarian. Oh, and the potato salad has bacon bits.
3) the prices are fairly reasonable but everything's a la carte - so chips and/or drink will cost extra. I had a sandwich, chips and a drink for $9.50.

K  .   So I've been uber busy with my real job and have had to live sans yelping for about a week, but i've been wanting to write this stellar review of Elliot Street the whole time.      Finally   .   Now I've only been here a few times (and $8 may seem a bit steep to a few penny pinching readers), but this place represents all that is true about "you get what you pay for" !!  Great Service (not too busy for anybody and the right amount of small talk for a mood of whatever), all premium Boar's Head meats (even the weiners, cause life is too short to eat bad meat - George Clinton wrote "Bullshit thoughts rot your meat" ; well I think it goes both ways), awesome bread (I love the Ciabatta), Hot pressed sammys (is nice even outside of the bedroom), and those killer little touches like spinach on your sandwich, cause when it's hot pressed it doesn't get all slimy and make you think you're eating bad Kimchi in a Koren adventure gone wrong . . .  And if I happen to be there - please make sure to ring the bell at the corner of the bar - I'll return the favor - I promise !!

Definitely a great pick! This place is like my long lost half brother! Can these guys be any nicer? As fellow chopper riders, their two wheel tuesday is pretty kick ass. This place would be the only reason why I would goto Castleberry since everything else has turned ghetto again....and Trinity/Formosa has gone bye bye.
Great spot for a photo shoot too!

Yahtzee, I was invited by a friend last night I was shocked by how happening the west side is,  all the goings on.  I or should I say we liked it so much we decided to look into a loft space today, though a bit hung over and not ready to take the leap yet we are super interested and the area seems really up and coming a sorta meat packing district, sorta a Soho sorta Atlanta becoming a city!
I am three years new to GA and me and my vintage Ducati will be at the Elliott  on the reg.

"This is the place to have a sandwich". I have tried all of there sandwiches and I have enjoyed all of them. My favorite is the  "Turkey Slawich". Hmmm!!! Don't forget to have the potato salad they call it "crack" because it is so addicting (duh). One of the few places to have a delicious sandwich and a beer.

This is the quintessential neighborhood pub.  It's owned by a couple cool cats that apparently live in the apartment upstairs.  It's tucked away near Castleberry Hill, it's almost hidden.  It's in this really cool stand alone brick two story building from another era.   It's super tiny, but it's just a great bar and a great place to go when you just want to get away from the "scene".  It's not fancy, a little divey, but full of character.  They have a limited menu that consists of deli sandwiches and salads.  I've been there with a couple different friends and both have proclaimed that their sandwich was the best sandwich they had ever put into their mouth.

My new favorite neighborhood pub, if only I lived in the neighborhood...

Elliott Street  is owned by two brothers who live in the building above the bar. You'll find one or both of them serving drinks and hanging out with their neighbors nightly. It's small, but has some character. I loved the paintings of Frank Zappa and Willie Nelson on the walls. It's the kind of place where they know their customers, and if they don't they make a point of getting to know you and introducing themselves. Elliott Street Deli and Pub is a throwback to the days of local bars where you can get a shot and a beer and see familiar faces at every seat.

As for the food, I had a great greek pastrami sandwich (your typical pastrami with feta and tzatzik)i. Simple, fresh ingredients and on bread baked that morning. Food doesn't have to be complicated or fancy to be good, it's a lesson lots of pubs should take to heart.

Special thanks to Karen F. for introducing me to this place. It's such a cool neighborhood pub, it made me start wishing I lived close by. Then I felt guilty about cheating on East Atlanta Village and had to apologize to all my neighborhood bars one by one.
