Sunday afternoon was my first visit.  I had deflating expectations while looking at Elliott Bay Brewhouse & Pub's building whilst trying to find parking in the ancient & eclectic strip mall they occupy.  Those expectations continued to depress as the hostess tried to seat the two of us in what had to be the darkest corner of the dining room; we opted to sit at the bar instead.  30 seconds after being sat, my expectations not only stopped sinking, but took a dramatic upturn.

27 beers on the big board above the bar, most of them theirs.  The bartender was there to greet us, give us menus, and take a drink order before our seats lost that initial chill.  We sampled 9, and had I nothing else to do for the rest of the afternoon, I would probably have just continued down the board as of those I sampled, I would be hard pressed to find one that I wouldn't have a second round of, and with 4 of the 9 I'd make a special trip back to get.  I have an informal theory about breweries/restaurants - if they don't have information about their beers readily available (OG, Plato, BUs, ABV, etc.), they aren't serious brewers and the beer is probably a gimmick.  I had barely asked about "more information" before the bartender gleefully handed us a binder with extended information on every beer they brew - ever.   Want a cheap thrill?  Get a round of samplers and the binder, and read up on what you're drinking and discuss with your beer loving friends.  Beer Geek On The Cheap.  Did I mention how great and professional our bartender was?

To get it out of the way, the food is mall quality pub grub - not terrible, nothing standing out, fries from a bag.  30 minutes after we left I had a hard time remembering what I ate.  That may actually be a good thing, as the point is absolutely the beer and I remember each I tried (is it wrong to want the No Doubt Stout in the mornings instead of coffee?).

I hope their West Seattle offers the same brew choices as Burien is a bit out of the way for me personally - although you wouldn't have to twist my arm too much to get me to go back.

I've been a fan of the Elliott Bay Brewery in West Seattle for many years and was glad I finally had a chance to check out their Burien location.  Yeah, Burien blows, but it blows slightly less thanks to the tasty brews and food served up by the kind folks at Elliott Bay.

As far as I could tell the menu was the same as their West Seattle location, but I felt that the restaurant itself was a big step up.  The place is huge--high ceilings and plenty of tables.  There are a few spots in the West Seattle location I don't like being seated at, but this location is so spacious I don't think that will be a problem.

They had their usual house brews on tap and several guest beers.  They had a nitro cask and two other cask conditioned beers.  I went for their Highline IPA, which was quite good, although not as hoppy as I generally prefer in an IPA.  For dinner I had the BBQ burger, which comes with swiss, bacon, all the fixin's and was slathered in their delicious BBQ sauce (made with their "No Doubt" stout).  The french fries were crispy and delicious.

The service was fast and friendly, and we got in early enough to enjoy the happy hour ($1 off pints).  Great beers, great pub grub and a great atmosphere.  If you're down south this is a great destination to fill yer belly.

We usually end up at this location of the Elliott Bay Brewhouse on our way home from airport drop offs or pickups. It's a great place to stop on the way to/from the airport and always has plenty of seating available.

I do feel like the menu always has the same usual stuff on it. For some reason, I struggle to find something that appeals to me and usually end up with a burger or the Greek gyro.  Their beers on the other hand are just great. When I'm in the mood for it, I love the blended beers (like the Hefe and Framboise).  Their nachos are also pretty good too.

I decided to come here before dropping off my peeps to get some post event drinks.  We have tried to go to several mexican places before but were closed, so we ended up going here.  I love the open space and it seems like it would pack alot of people.

Their late night happy hour to me is not all that great, however.  They have the food menu available from 10-CL (which is 11 on weekdays), but I was told the kitchen closes at 10:30 so you would need to order fast.  Their burger crostinis were okay, but I had better.  I did like the BBQ pulled pork sandwich that my friend had, I should have ordered that.  I know that this is a brewery and pub, but I have been to several Pubs in my lifetime that I can order a hard liquor drink and not be subjected to just beer and wine.

Parking is very limited and can get crowded even during the week, so be aware.

I think when I am in Burien, I will still go here but I will skip the food menu and just head straight for the beer list.

I recommend the pulled pork or the fish and chips. You will NOT be disappointed.

Parking can be tricky, so we only go during off-peak hours. The beers are good but the growlers are pricey and nowhere near the level of Georgetown Brewery.

The staff are always great; this is one of our favorite places to eat.

Maybe I'm biased b/c this place is 2 blocks from my home, but whatever.  Good food (incld happy hour) menu -- which makes me happy, and good beer -- which makes the huz happy.

We also like the attention they pay to environmental stewardship with their organic brews, local ingredients, food composting, etc.

Haven't been there for brunch yet, but the thought of their menu is making my tummy rumble....

The Elliott Bay Brewhouse & Pub is a great option in Burien.  It's big and airy with reasonable prices and great food made fresh from local ingredients. They don't serve hard alcohol here but their lineup of organic beers seem to please my friends.

Faves:
They have great (enormous) salads for around $10.
The Bavarian pretzel is Hasselhofftastic.

Travelin' the back roads of So King County was tuckering us out and we were needing some nourishment.

We stopped in at the Elliott Bay Brewhouse for three very good reasons: a) we knew where they are located, b) we had an Entertainment coupon to use there, and c) we've been to the West Seattle location several times and have always been pleased with the food and service there.

Their Burien cousin did not disappoint.

Very comfortable environment.  Lots of families enjoying their day.  Lots of TVs on which you could enjoy whatever ball game.  Sounds of people having a good time, but not overwhelmingly loud.

Service was decent.  Our server at times appeared to just be going through the motions, but provided us perfectly fine service.  He seemed a tad slow at times, but, in fairness, he was working a lot of tables and probably doing the best he could.

On gripe: Mr H ordered an entrée salad.  It was a very generous portion, but served with about a thimble full of dressing.  When he asked for more, he was brought another thimble.  He gave up.  Seriously, folks, is thousand island so dear these days that you can't splurge on an adequate amount of dressing for the serving size?

Still, overall our experience was a quite positive.  Should we find ourselves wandering through Burien again, I could easily see making a return trip.

ok.... so I went back for the Ahi tacos. they were totally different. Didn't taste like anything & they didn't come with tarter sauce... it was my bff4f's b-day & the cute, blue eyed waiter was nice to suprise my friend with a dessert with a candle in it when I asked him to. BUT the food was not good at all. the fish was actually cold & it took ten minutes to get the tarter sauce.

when he brought the bill I was slightly surprised that he didn't even comp B-day girl's dessert or one of her beers, but THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE TARTER SAUCE!!!

?!?

(on a side note, it tasted like Mayo & hoarseraddish)

I'll still go back for the ras&stout

Word out.

Best Hummus Plate in Seattle

I'm vegetarian, so I know my way around the city's hummus plates. Last night, I had the appetizer at Elliot Bay as my meal and it was terrific. In fact, and I can't think of anywhere else I can make this claim, it was actually a great meal all by itself.

Lots of pita, lots of cucumbers, lots of hummus, a handful of artichoke hearts and a handful of kalamata olives. I forget whether there were tomato slices too, but I don't care. Where most restaurants use the hummus plate as an excuse to charge $10 for $1 worth of food, I know that this $9.95 appetizer would probably cost me at least that much to assemble at home.

Bottom Line: Congrats, Elliot. You win for now. The rest of the city is on notice.

Have tried this place a couple of times and I would like to like it better, it looks like a nice place but the food is just average, have not tried anything that makes me glad i came there.  I am sure it won't be the last time I go, but not my first choice of places.  They do have a pretty good selection of brews though.

Wow, what great beer and food.

Hops Van Boorian is my new favorite beer in town!!

I was fortunate enough to visit with a brewing friend and got a private tour of the brewery! really nice wait staff and great brewers. make sure to bring your growler if you visit.

I also enjoy the blended beers like the Diesel!

This is going to be my new spot to wait for friends at the airport.

Not bad.  I'm just glad that there are more dining options in Burien than there were about 5 years ago.  I went here for the first time last night, and had the ahi sandwich.  It was flavorful, not too overcooked, and the fries that came with it were also good.  We also had the sausage and swiss appetizer.  My dining companions' meals looked appealing as well.  Service was friendly.  It can get pretty loud inside the restaurant though...it seems like the sound just echoes off the walls.  I'll be back...

Whenever my friend Lauri and I decide to meet for dinner to catch up on life, we usually meet here. We usually come during the week after 6 and never have a problem with seating or service.

The beer is decent and the food is usually really good.

Food I have had served there in the past:
- The portobello mushroom burger has a really good flavor.
- The black bean hummus plate is very filling. The hummus is tasty and the variety of items they serve with it is great. I could very well eat it as a meal instead of an appetizer.
- The fish and chips are delicious. The fish is flaky and the batter is just right (not too thick and bready, not too thin). The seasoned fries are pretty good too.
- The Italian Club was okay, not the greatest or the worst sandwich ever, it was just kind of mediocre.
- The Ahi tuna sandwich was really good, I had it broiled with lemon pepper. They cooked it perfectly, as it was medium rare but not TOO rare (there is a time and place for that, and Elliot Bay does not serve sushi).
- And last but not least, my favorite...

The Ahi Tacos.

I had never tried a fish taco before (My sister tried to get me to try one when we were in Mexico, but I was only 18 and couldn't drink enough liquor to be convinced to try a taco cart) and one night decided to go with it. Since then, I've had the Ahi tacos twice (once more in Burien and once at the West Seattle location).

The combination of the crunchiness of the cilantro-slaw, the flakiness of the tuna, the freshness of the pico de gallo and spiciness of the chipotle aioli made this the perfect meal. It is served with fries, but for a little extra you can sub a soup or salad. The fish never seems to be cooked to medium rare as they say, but I don't care because the taco as a whole is delicious.

This place has a great atmosphere, great food, and decent beer.

This is my favorite place!  My only temptation to go somewhere else is when I'm in a hard liquor mood.  But their beers are so good (Raz-n-Stout is pretty dreamy) I don't usually mind.  I love that their beef comes from a local farm and they're organic & greener than any other restaurant I've checked out.  It's like guilt-free gluttony!  I tend to stick with their burgers and salads 'cause they're so tasty.  No Doubt Stout with Crumbled bleu & bacon is my usual.  If you haven't had their "crack sauce" (the chipotle aiole) then you should.  I put it on EVERYTHING.  Service has always been fantastic for me but I always sit at the bar.  I've heard mixed reviews from my friends who have received service on the main floor.  The lesson I take away is...always sit at the bar.

Lots of beer choices, lots of space, awesome burgers AND salads (and other typical foods that go with beer).

I try not to venture in to Burien too often or for any extended period of time, but EBBP gives me a reason to at least stop by occasionally.

FYI - If you've been to the location in West Seattle, you''ll find the menus are slightly different.

Not the greatest beer ever.  The IPA is palatable.  The triple tastes like a double.

But, the food is great -- I had this wonderful salad special - king salmon, berries, yum!  And, the service is excellent.  And, the space is nice -- high ceilings, exposed beams, good color scheme.  Also, it's open until midnight on weekdays.

Definitely worth a stop.

Came here with my wife and I was fixin' to get myself some good beer and bar food.  Being has how this is a brewery and I'm a bit of a beer connoisseur, I started off with the five beer sampler.  I can't remember which beers I sampled but overall, I wasn't very impressed with their beer.

Now the food is a different story!!  Seeing as how I was looking forward to some good bar food, I decided to get the fish and chips despite being reminded by my wife of how unhealthy I am being.  I'm in a bar man, I just downed about a beer and half, I might as well continue down the path of the dark side.  Anyways, the F&C broke da' mauf!   Fish was fresh and deep fried to perfection.  The fish just flaked apart and melted in my mouth.  My wife had the crab cake burger and that was very tasty.

Our friends who have eaten here a few times, highly recommend the fish tacos.  I'll give those a try next time when I feel like eating more "healthy".

I don't like to drink beer (sorry! sorry!), but I do like beer as an ingredient in other things.  That's why I like the Elliott Bay Brewhouse:

Beer-battered fish and chips?
Yay!
Beer-marinated steak?
Yes!
Beer-filled pulled pork?
Yippee!
Beer-infused chocolate cake?
Yum!
Beer floats?
Why not?
Raspberry beer mixed with hard cider so it doesn't even seem like I'm drinking beer?
Oooh baby, keep the Lambicider coming!

Okay, I don't think they put beer on the salad, but I'm sure if they tried they could find a way.  I like the combination of golden-brown delicacies with healthier fare, and I like that I can park nearby, get a seat and hear well enough to converse.  Service has always been friendly and prompt.

It's not all perfect.  There's some inconsistency in the kitchen: my seared tuna sandwich has been perfect or overdone, a few items could be flavored with a heavier hand.  Desserts are fine, though I suspect the specials (which always seem to run out before I get there) are better than the regular items.  Yesterday we missed out on a bing cherry shortcake with dark chocolate and (here's the beer!) stout ice cream.  Doesn't that sound good?

Elliott Bay Brewhouse is another fine example of life in the south end!

This is the best pub food you'll find.  The beers are made in house.  I'd recommend the Red Von Boorian if you care for a more mellow brew.  The blackened tuna  sandwich with fries (c'mon, just have the fries) is so good.  Their restaurant is way nicer than the West Seattle place.  It's clean, comfy and spacious with a real northwest feel.

Our 18-month-old loves to look through the windows at the big beer vats in the brew room.  Maybe that will come back to bite us when she's a teenager.

Other menionables - spinach artichoke dip, pub garden salad, ahi tuna tacos, burgers.

Oh - the veggie burger is now gross and soggy.  They just changed the recipe and it's nasty.

This is a fantastic new addition to the Olde Burien landscape.  It is beautifully decorated and has a huge menu selection.  It is quickly becoming *the* local gathering spot in Burien.

I have been nothing but thrilled with the food and drink that I've ordered.  I've particularly enjoyed the soups and chili's that I've ordered on these rainy winter/spring days!  The drink's aren't too bad either!

Edited, April 5, 2007 - I had lunch here today and was violently ill afterwards.  The service was still outstanding, but they lost stars for making me blow chunks.

It's sort of hard to find quality in Burien and very nice to see a classy addition to the lot....seeing as how there maybe two other bars that I might go to in this little ol' town.

The menu is full of various selections and most of it includes being cooked with their fine ales.  I feel really little because the ceiling is so high!

Not a place I'd get tanked in but it's good for some light drinking with friends or prefunk to a night out or seeing a movie.

We checked this place out for the first time today during happy hour.  $5 got me a yummy pulled pork (made with their stout beer) quesadilla.  The pork was very good and had just the right amount of sauce (i hate it when places drown their pulled pork).  Their food menu was vast and there were many interesting dishes which utilized their beers in the recipe.  I'll definitely have to go back to try some more dishes.

I got their beer sampler platter and all the varieties i tasted were very good to decent.  It's kinda funny how they have a separate section on their beer menu for mixes of different beers...  Anyway, they've got many kinds of their beer on tap as well as choices from other breweries.

The brew pub is pretty huge with good atmosphere, lots of seating, a full-sized shuffleboard table, great service, etc.  Thumbs up!

10/17/07 - I had their pork schnitzel dinner special and it was damn tasty.  Recommended!

My husband and I decided that we would start our very own Brewery Tour in search of the best combo of Beer ( most importantly ) and Hot Wings.  After being let down at the Hales brewery we decided to checkout Elliots.
We were greeted by a very sweet girl and put into a booth.  Yay for booths!
Anyways.. I ordered the Frambaweizen which is a combo of Raspberry Lambic and their Heffeweizen.  It was sooo yummy, especially for the ladies out there.  My hubby thought it was fantastic too.
He ordered the Blonde beer and seemed to be very content with his beer too.
The wings that we ordered had great flavor, but were lacking in hotness, both temperature wise and spicy.  I think they could have been cooked a little less too.  One more things about the wings... they only gave us 3 pieces of celery!  What about the carrots man!
All together we had a great experience there, and our server was EXCELLENT!  We will be going back to Elliots after our Beer and Wings Tour.

8/1/2007
So we went back and we will not be going back there.  Again what is up with cold steak salads in this city?  Seriously... and can a girl get her steak medium rare and not cooked till it's black.  We ordered the fish tacos and steak salad.... both HORRIBLE. No flavor.  Should have gone to Taco Bell for Gods sake!

Went back again and had the best waitress. Blond, young-mommish, wearing sneakers and a ponytail. She was seriously perfect -- efficient, pleasant, good at reading between the lines. The food was not bad but, again, not spectacular. $12+ Manila clam appetizer is overpriced in my opinion for the amount you end up with. Salads were pretty good, but not cheap. Hops von Boorian is seriously amazing beer - not bitter, but plenty complex. Best deal in the house is prolly the $5 stout ice cream sundae (they make the ice cream themselves). It really doesn't taste too much like stout, but is HUMONGOUS, not overly sweet, and comes drizzled and sprinkled with lotsa fun stuff.

My favorite micro-brew is Fat Tire. I had the Alembic Pale Ale. It was pretty comparable to Fat Tire.  I also had the crab cake sandwich, which was pretty decent. They charged $2-3 extra to substitute fries with salad (what a rip).  Restaurants need to start promoting healthy food without penalty.  I would give 4 stars if it wasn't for the extra $ for salad.

This is my fave place!  I'm a stout fan and I love goin' in to try their rotating porters and stouts.  It's hard to top the No Doubt Stout.  Although it was their Raz-n-Stout that hooked me in the first place.  I started at the west seattle location but I live in Burien so now that the Burien one is open, that's pretty much it for me.  A friend of mine loves their food too (she's a W. Seattle girl) but said she went in and got poor service in the restaurant area in Burien.  Very sad.  I always eat at the bar and the bartenders have always been SUPER awesome.  They always remember my fave beers and food (crumbled blue and bacon, hands down). I'm also a sucker for green businesses (organic beef from Vashon, they use the spent grain from beer to make their buns, biodiesel van, blah blah blah).  I'm hooked--line and sinker.  Oh yeah!  And my secret tidbit: order the chipotle aioli sauce to go with your fries.  I call it the crack sauce--'cause it's addicting and I can't ever get enough.
