I was in the area and I needed some last minute gifts.  This was like the only store in the area that looked like it could do the job.  I entered with a little apprehension because small grocery stores usually are dirty and unorganized.  But not this one.

While I was scouring around for possible gift ideas, I was very impressed by their vast organic selections (they have Newton-O's and organic chocolate bars!).  Other things that stuck out to me is their wine selections in the wine corner and the scrumptious looking desserts they have in their fridge next to the cash register.

I'm pretty sure the owner is convinced that I have a massive sweet tooth because of the large amount of Lindt chocolate bars I bought for gifts.  As I was heading out, she gave me an individual sampler bar of the Ritter Sport chocolate that she had near the cash register.  It was extremely nice of her!

To tell the truth, this is the best grocery store in the neighbourhood.

I used to be a frequent customer at Ellington Grocery & Deli until one memorable incident occured.

It's late and me and my friends stop by to buy a bottle of sake to celebrate the beautiful night.

While we are choosing sake, an unpleasant scene develops in front of our widen eyes.

Apparently a homeless person sneaked in and tried to stay and sleep in the store.

The owner gets angry and asks him to get out.

*By this time we chose our sake and waiting to pay for it. *

After some yelling back and forth, the guy leaves the store, but messes up the display with chips on the way out.

The owner is furious.  He grabs our sake bottle from the cash desk and throws it at the door.  It shatters and the store stinks like sake.

Our eyes are very wide and we are very scared.

The owner apologizes and grabs us another sake bottle.  We pay and we leave, with intention never to come back.

Dude, just invest in some psychotherapy sessions.  Because. That. Was. Freaky. Shit.

Top notch sandwiches.  I usually don't club turkey clubs, but the turkey with avacado was simply awesome.  Reminds me a lot of East Coast sandwiches.  Very friendly owners.  Sandwiches are b/t $5.50 and $6.99.  Completely worth the extra buck or two over Subway or Sandwich Tree.

Sundries and such.

Tidy little convenience store with very nice deli and dessert offerings.

Their sandwiches are pretty good and made with Boar's Head meats (just like the over-priced Buffalo Deli). They even give you a bag of chips with your sandwich at no additional cost. Plus, it is run by very nice folks.

After an early dinner and a wander downtown, I was walking back to our hotel with former Seattle resident and fellow Yelper Jeremy P. We had a bottle of wine back at the hotel and wanted to see if we could find some cheese or other "nummies" to go with it. We see this little shop, that basically looks like your slightly-cleaner-than-average downtown liquor store from the outside and wander in, not really expecting to find anything.

Holy gouda, batman. I think we've found the Mothership.

This is like a top-notch gourmet outfit - they had a great selection of cheeses, plus an impressive array of wines. It seemed like every aisle was it's own gourmet wonderland of delight. There was even a little case of individual desserts that looked like they'd come from a top-notch bakery. Plus, they had a lot of the regular stuff you'd need at a corner grocery place - water, toilet paper, milk, asprin, etc.

We asked the guy behind the counter if it was his shop and told him how great we thought it was. And then he gave me a free piece of chocolate!

Bah. You Seattle-ites are so spoiled.

When I moved to Seattle and couldn't find the supermarket(s), Ellington Grocery & Deli coupled with Rite Aid and local restaurants provided everything I needed.  It cost some money, but what to do.... when you need stuff, you buy it.

Since I found out where the supermarkets were hiding my frequency level sort of simmered.  But I went there today.  And you should too.

In the mood to try something new.... look around.  There's something for everyone.

Fuze Healthy Infusions is new.  Ellington Grocery & Deli has it.  Sure.

I had a Fuze today.

Orange Blossom White Tea with Natural Antioxidants and These Essential Vitamins.  Those things shouldn't ever be fake.

It was ice cool and smoothing.  And a change from coffee.  But if you want that, Ellington Grocery has it too.

Do you feel a diet coming on?  Ellington Grocery has fresh carrot and celery sticks.  Yeah.

Toliet paper... Charmin and Quilted Northern.  Napkins... Paper towels... something for Breakfast... something for lunch... a microwave dinner... or a bottle of wine for a little romance.  There's something for everyone.  Did I say that already?

Entertaining and not wanting to do the dessert yourself?  Ellington Grocery has Raspberry-White Chocolate/Peanut Butter-Chocolate/Lemon Bar.  The gourmet stuff.

Have them make you a sandwich or buy it all and make it yourself.  The option is yours.

I could go on and on, but I'm sure you get the point.  If not, here it is, "I want you to support Ellington Grocery & Deli".

Even if you just want a little something for pet.

It's a small business.  Owned by a nice family.  They're my friends.

This is not your ordinary downtown grocery/deli.  No sir.  When I am feeling under the weather, cruddy, or run down, this is my stop.  It's not too far away, they have a selection that consists of more than just junkfood, beverages, and old stale food.  This place has oodles and oodles of organic foods, healthy teas, and juices that are just right.  More pricey than all the other corner groceries, but that's because the goods are higher quality.

I have been going here for about a year now. I would have written a review earlier, but the name is not one that sticks out. This has got to be one of the BEST delis i have ever been to. They have organic stuff, affordable wine, environmentally conservative options for cleaning and personal hygiene. salads, bagels with enough creme cheese (unlike almost ANY other place in this damn city!) and to top it off, it is owned and run by the NICEST family. the first time i went there, the man was singing (tunelessly) some 80's pop tune, and it made me so happy! the husband and wife have a sweet teenage daughter and the three of them, to my knowledge are the only people who ever work there. they are always sweet to me, and i am constantly trying new things for lunch! i still want to try one of the small deluxe cakes the have there...

I hate to admit it...but I pretty much never go to the grocery store....Ellington Grocery & Deli IS my grocery store....for being pretty much a convenience store...it does super well. I have no complaints. I think I probably go here at least 3 days a week. I don't even think it's that over priced and they have pretty much everything I need except fresh fruit, veggies, and meat!!!

This is the most impressive grocery/deli I have ever been in. Other than fresh fruit , veggies and proteins, which you can get at 'the market' you may never need to go to another grocery store. The wine selection is solid and deli sandos are delish and reasonably priced.
