Elleair Maui Golf Club Llc
2 reviews for Elleair Maui Golf Club Llc
You have better courses to play while you're in Maui, so charging $120 on the weekday morning seems a little out of line. The course can probably best be compared to a four star muni, meaning it's not the most interesting track you're going to play, but it's in playable shape and there are a few interesting holes. But had I paid $120 at home, I wouldn't go back, there are too many nicer places to play.
After #1, a 450 yd par 4 up the hill to a small green, the next few holes are a bit boring. It gets more interesting on #4, with a deceptively narrow driving area to a fairly generous fairway. The tee shot on #6 forces you to flirt with the trees overhanging on the left, or flirt with the water hazard on the right side. The best chance of making a par is the hit a draw over the water, but you're hitting directly at it. #9 is a cool downhill par 4 with water right and a crazy green complex with a lot of contouring.
The back nine is the better of the nines. What you begin to realize is that when you are playing down the hill, you're playing into the wind, and vice versa. So there's a short par 4, and a short par 5, but you have the wind to contend with, so what looks like a sure birdie actually isn't. I guess that's where they can get off only playing 6800 yds from the back tees. #15 is a cool double-water hazard hole with lots of options off the tee. #18 is the classic sweeping dogleg par 5 down the hill to a Pacific Ocean backdrop.
But I'll be clear: this course isn't glamorous. In fact, the clubhouse is pretty crappy, and the restaurant that used to be there isn't functioning. There's a snack window (literally) for sandwiches, chips, drinks, etc. You can order from the cart on the ProLink GPS. The driving range is equipped with crappy range balls and rusty old baskets. Kapalua, it ain't. But you'll probably make more birdies.
OK is a pretty good word to describe Elleair.

This is a nice course near Kihei, so it's the local course if your staying in this town. The price to play has inched up just about every year, so it's hitting 100+ now for a round.
Your on vacation right? Go ahead and try out this place, it's pretty much like a very nicely setup muni course. Not too much as far as exotic holes, but they keep the overall conditions of the course keep up fairly well. The fairways are nice and soft, easy to take divots with your wedges. Fairways are pretty wide, not like the Makena North course which is the opposite.
Get a morning tee time, the afternoon is really windy.
