The. Best. Salon. Period.
I LOVE Elle Marie! As a high maintenance hair DIVA (naturally curly, gray, color treated long hair), I really appreciate a good cut and color! Thankfully the manager, Hollie, is VERY GOOD at her job.
We always have such a great time, she is smart, nice and hilarious! And thanks to Britt for always scheduling enough time for my crazy hair!
If you would like a stylist that actually listens to you and has great ideas as well, look no further!
The salon itself is also very cool (trendy without being douchy).... The owner is great, the location is perfect. I would commute to this place even if I lived 2 hours away! -

My experience with Elle Marie is a bit like an old Western film... the good, the bad, and the ugly.
THE GOOD:
I started coming to Elle Marie for 2 reasons:
-I had just moved to the area and needed a stylist.
-I approached a girl out in public with amazing color/highlights and demanded to know who her stylist was.
Lo and behold, nearly 8 weeks later (waiting period for her coloring services due to high demand) I met Sarah and a beautiful stylist-client relationship was born. That was 3 years ago. Walking into the salon for the first time, I loved how they had it decorated: urban and modern yet warm and inviting is the best way I can describe it. Their huge dark stained wood mirrors are set off by not-too-bright yellow walls adorned with quirky wall art and model-y pictures of the stylists, and the floor is an interesting textured, multi-colored tile that ties it all together. There's a cool shaggy carpet in the waiting area and several cute - though HIGHLY uncomfortable - chairs, and they keep the music current and tasteful (if a bit loud).
THE BAD:
For the most part, the staff at Elle Marie is pretty friendly. As with any company though, of course you have the few stragglers- like the flaky receptionist who can't seem to get the "hang" of her staff's schedules (a huddle of 3-4 stylists around the front desk trying to fix a scheduling snafu is not an uncommon thing), the intimidating "go getter" of an owner that makes frequent appearances in her non age-appropriate Juicy Couture sweats, and then her daughter - the stereotypical "owner's child" that likes to play boss (I think her name is Lori?). She manages the place, of course (thanks, mom). I never really interacted very much with anyone but Sarah and the receptionist, but the manager/owner's daughter somehow always managed to make me feel uncomfortable and even slightly unwelcome, like she was looking down her nose at me. Unfortunately I know I'm not alone there, as my own neighbor that I had referred to Sarah actually stopped coming to the salon for that very reason. However, I LOVE Sarah's vision and I will trust NO ONE else within 10 feet of my hair, so I always sucked it up and put up with the snooty looks from mommy's girl while I was there. Until...
THE UGLY:
It had been a while since my last touch-up, so I called in about a week ago to make an appointment. I was told that my stylist had abruptly left (as in, the FOREVER kind) because of some kind of problem with her wrists. I kinda stumbled around for a minute in shock and then ended the call without an appointment. I was confused because if one were to "quit" for such a reason, I'd hope it would be more planned - and it wasn't like her to just leave her clients and friends high & dry. I knew she had some wrist issues per previous conversations we had, but they seemed quite minor from the way she spoke of them. I also wondered to myself "is it even legal for them to give that kind of information out?" That was tacky. I believe it was likely an attempt to discourage me (or... clients in general) from following her and to stay with them as a client. Hmmm. Curious, I found her on Facebook. I sent her a message that night with the intention of giving her a hard time for jumping ship without me and to offer my PT services/expertise as I work in that field. When Sarah responded the next day she informed me that I was fed a lie by the girl I talked to at Elle Marie. I wish I had gotten her name. I was fuming! They let Sarah go because they think she foiled their attempt to buy out a struggling salon in the area. Really?! Basically, corporate greed robbed countless clients of their favorite stylist, and Sarah of a professional home at the salon she helped establish. Wow. I won't continue much more because my review is long enough but in a nutshell, I won't be back. Not only is my favorite stylist gone, but shady business practices are not ok with me. And I highly doubt I'm alone in that sentiment. That was not a good move to lie to me and who knows how many others (you know us... paying clients, the reasons they're even in business) and think we're dumb enough to fall for it. BIG no-no. We know better and they ought to be ashamed of themselves. Another bad move on their part was giving away such sensitive information to people calling in for her, whether it's true or not. That's got to be in violation of some kind of privacy rule or law somewhere.
Bottom line for potential clients: Visit this salon if you wish, it's cute on the inside and there might be other good stylists there. But if your hair is important to you as mine is to me, track Sarah down. She's well known. ;)
And as for you, Elle Marie: Sarah has a TON of faithful clients (myself included) who adore her and her amazing work and WILL follow her. Her departure is purely your loss, not hers!

I saw Susan for a cut and color and this girl is magic! I'm working to grow my hair out and I always feel like routine "trims" take length away. Susan got the gross ends off, but left all the length. She also gave me a foil that I can't wait to sport this weekend! It's exactly what I asked for. I'll be back!

I've been a client of Elle Marie for about 2 years now and I can honestly say that the service is only getting better. The salon is always clean, the stylists & receptionist are always very friendly and genuinely seem to enjoy working there. My stylist, Ally, really takes the time to listen to my wants, offers great advice (for hair issues & life!) and delivers with beautiful color & cuts each time. Prices are very reasonable. The decor is modern, clean & inviting. All the stylists are fashion forward but individual in their tastes. I think they have the perfect stylist for every type of client and would definitely recogmend this salon!

I've been going to Elle Marie ever since they opened in 2006 and have always had the BEST experience. Lorry and Sarah have both done my hair and each time it turns out amazing. I recently began getting highlights and since I was a first-timer, I was nervous. Sarah listened to my ideas and turned them into something amazing. I had subtle, natural looking highlights and it was exactly what I wanted.
Over the years I have continued to refer my friends to Elle Marie for the excellent service, genuinely friendly staff, and wonderful end results! -

I have gone to Sarah for the past 7 years, I wouldn't trust anybody else with my hair. She always does such a fantastic job with the cut and color. Everybody in the salon is so nice and caring. Once I had to walk to my appointment (I only live about a mile away) and it was pouring down rain and they dried my clothes for me! This is by far the best salon I have ever been to, I would recommend it for everybody.

I went to see Betty at Elle Marie today for a cut and partial foil; I've been seeing her as my stylist since around 2004 and she is the only person in the greater Seattle area who I trust to style my hair. I live in Southern California currently and usually wait until I have a planned visit to Seattle to get my hair done--she is THAT good. I adore funky, chunky, and punky hairstyles and I absolutely love that Betty is comfortable and incredibly capable of giving me exactly what I want, even if I don't even know what that is yet. When I went in today, I had only a basic idea of what I wanted--blonde highlights and keep the length the same but put bunches of layers in it. She did exactly what I wanted and more. She asks questions throughout the process to make sure that you are still happy with the progress of the styling and always styles my hair in a flattering way. I would absolutely hands down recommend Betty and Elle Marie Hair Studio. If you are looking for a great haircut at a reasonable price, this is the place to go!!

I don't have a single bad thing to say about Elle Marie Hair Studio. I've been going for a few years now and I absolutely love it. I'm a hair stylist myself, so I'm very picky. Every visit, I leave with hair that gets me compliments until i come in for my next appointment. Lorry is the best!! LOOOOVE her!

I have been to this salon for my cuts and colors (Whitney is my stylist) on many occasions and I must say, I thoroughly enjoy Elle Marie. Not only is the vibe there exceptional, but the decor is tasteful and the people are friendly and relaxed. I have been to many salons Downtown, Bellevue and Kirkland and living in Mays Pond, I decided to just try Elle Marie for a change. I am so glad I did. They certainly raised the bar on all of those other salons! By all appearances they provide a fantastic environment not only for their staff, but the clientele as well. I will continue to be a repeat client!!

Love getting my hair done here! Betty is my stylist, and has been for 7 years now, and I must say, this is my favorite of all the salons she has been at! Everyone that works there is super friendly, they have a super delicious tea selection and the chairs that you sit in for the shampoo are massage chairs! Love it! And to top it all off---it's reasonably priced!

I gave this place more than a few tries. Loved it when Rebekah, my orignal hairstylist worked there but suddently disappeared when she became a full time stay at home mom. I loved her because she took her time, listened, and even wanted to try new cutting techiniques she learned to try on me, which I was game for and very happy with!! I call it creativity, which is lacking these days. Not everyone wants a generic haircut, and if they did, they'd go to Supercuts. Although everyone there is nice, especially reception, I feel the haircuts are mediocre and rushed through. It seems like this place is more appealing to men because they're definitely more flirty and chatty with them, and what's annoying is they chat amongst eachother (really loudly too) that I can't even read my magazine in peace while getting a haircut. I hate to say this but this place is lacking a little heart and soul like it use to and becoming slightly overrated. Not to be all negative, the good things are that their prices are very reasonable and the decor very nice and welcoming.

The ladies at this cool looking salon in Bothell, all pride themselves on being a "premier" hair salon. The atmosphere is chic and the hair designers are all good looking with great hair, but the level of customer service that my family has personally experienced is anything but premier. To start, I've visited the salon about 4 times and had the same designer (who's name I won't mention) and was very happy with my haircut and style. She did exactly what I wanted and the price was just $36.00. I then decided to refer the rest of my family which includes my husband, my 4 year old son and my 6 year old daughter. My daughter had her hair cut twice by my stylist, but when we missed our next appointment because we just plain forgot, we were told that if it happens again, she would no longer be able to be taken as a client again. WHAT??? You're putting a check mark on her name? SHE'S SIX YEARS OLD FOR GOD'S SAKE! It's my fault she missed the appointment! They then had the nerve to tell me that it's their policy to contact the client the night before to remind of the appointment and that if you miss your appointment with no phone call, they put a "mark" on your name. I then told the appointment person that there was no phone call made to me the night before (on either of the 2 phone numbers they have on file for me) and not that it's their fault we missed it, if they had called us, we would NOT have missed it. So, they reluctantly rescheduled my daughter anyway. When we finally did get to the appointment, the stylist began to comb her hair out and when she realized that it was going to take more time than was allotted for the appointment, she tells me that next time I make the appointment, to tell the appointment girl that she needs 45 minutes to do my daughters hair and not the standard 30 for a kids cut. (I wanted to ask her if she wanted me to bring in my $3.00 detangler to help her out with my daughter's extra long hair since she can't seem to handle it, but I figured it would only upset her). Also, why is it MY responsibility to tell the appointment person that she needs more time. Doesn't their high tech computer system have a place where they can make a note of this? So, after all of that, she still sent my daughter home with wet hair (in winter) because she had another client right after and didn't have the time to blow dry it. Fast forward to the last appointment. We go in for this last appointment back in May, and she tells me that if I wanted her to blow dry and style her hair, I would have to pay the $36.00 adult cut rate versus the kids rate because she had long hair. WHAT??? ARE YOU KIDDING? You've already insulted me twice and now you're telling me that I have to pay extra for you to do my daughters hair that I can do myself and get a better result? Go fish honey. Besides, once she was done, she did the exact opposite of what I asked her to do to my daughter's hair! So, needless to say, neither me nor my family will be going back to Elle Marie and I will no longer be sending my friends either. Somehow, I don't think they really care so its mutual.
