Sacramento, CA

Park your horse, grab a beer and a scarf down a fantastic burger. Charming, rustic, very Old Elk Grove.

This rating is based entirely on Heather's Sunday Bloody Marys. I have been here on several occasions and found the food to be overpriced, yet tacky and cheap. I happened upon here one day with a killer hangover and Oh Mylanta! That girl can sure make a good bloody mary. If you ever have a Sunday to go and drink... GO.
If you must eat, the happy hour tacos are more than decent

FORGET BJ's hyped up garbage. If you're in Elk Grove and you are going to a brewery, check out the EG Brewery Restaurant. GREAT BEERS! YUMMY FOOD. GREAT SELECTION OF BOTH!
It's a nicely sized business right in the heart of the old Downtown EG. It's dimly lit and relaxed. On the weekends they have bands that play, so if that's your thing, find out when the bands play. Often it's Blues.
I really like the burgers here. All of the food helpings are more than reasonable for the price.
A must have appetizer: DILLY DIPPERS!
Why didn't I give this place 5 stars? Parking. Parking in downtown EG is difficult to find; and when you do find a nice open lot, they are only for the other businesses around the brewery until a certain time of the day. So be careful that you don't get towed away. Otherwise, I really like this place and have gone many times. It was the first place I took my wife on our first date. haha :)

I have to agree with another review who said "Great Beer, Average Food". The beer is the only reason to come here. Before 7PM (I think) they have some cheap appetizers. It's all pretty much low grade bar fare, nothing worth traveling for.
The beer, on the other hand, is quite good. I normally go for the Diamondback Wheat Ale but the Big But Blonde ain't half bad. There's a few other beers which are just nice.
Service is usally pretty good. The owner is usually behind the bar. He's a real nice guy who always seems to remember me and my 2 friends I'm normally with. Ask for a shot of "killdab*tch". It'll knock you on your butt! Parking isn't all the great. It's usually a half block walk in the "old town" area of Elk Grove.
I will warn you, Friday and Saturday nights there is usually a band. They tend to be quite bad and quite loud. I try to drink outside on those nights. Additionally, it really seems like the single parent dating scene. I haven't see so many 40-somethings hitting on each other in my whole life. The clientele can be a little sketchy. I'd expect to see some blue collar types in there. Particularly since Bob's is down the street.
My friend lives in the south area, so we're always looking for places that aren't chains. After doing our Yelp research, we decided to try the Elk Grove Brewery. It's located on the main drag in the "old town" portion of Elk Grove. Easy to spot on the left side of the street...a beautiful old historical building, nicely lighted, and rumored to be haunted. We parked in a little lot right next door.
As soon as we walked in, my friend knew he'd hit the jackpot - it was a Saturday night, so a live band was just getting started, a Kings game was airing on two TV screens, and there were garlic fries on the menu. We had the option of sitting in the bar section, but decided on a table in the dining area.
After Christine K's yelp on the dilly dippers, we had to give them a try, so we got the appetizer combo (onion rings, dilly dippers, and chicken fingers). And because we always over-order, we decided to tone it down this time and just split a cheeseburger with garlic fries. We were given the option of several different cheeses, but we stuck with cheddar, and got the thousand island dressing instead of mayo.
I must say, it was one tasty burger. And one very large burger (half a pound of meat). The bun was soft with a sprinkling of cornmeal on top. Red onions. Really, a great hamburger.
The appetizer platter was also humongous...way too much for us to even consider finishing. My friend really enjoyed the beer battered items (onion rings and dillies). I liked the chicken fingers - there was a little bite to the seasoning and the meat was moist. For dipping, there was a nice smoky BBQ sauce, and a standard ranch dressing. The dilly dippers were fun as a novelty, but I'm not sure I'd order them again (I'm just not a pickle fan). Neither of us drink beer, so I can't comment on that (sorry). But the service was attentive and friendly, and our sodas were refilled at least three times.
We braved the elements to get there (pouring rain and howling wind), but it was well worth the effort. It was a fun, laid-back atmosphere, the band was good, the food was yummy, and the Kings won! Sure, it was a little loud for conversation, but it was Saturday night and we were there to eat, not chat.

Great beer and average food. I had a pint of otis alt, a pint of winter warmer porter, and a pint of bock lager. Out of the three beers I drank, I like the bock lager and the very strong winter warmer porter. For food, I tried the Southwestern Burger, grilled chicken breast over rice (lousy rice), and Bill's favorite chicken Parmesan. I wasn't impress with the super wet burger and the lousy chicken breast over rice. The chicken Parmesan portion was huge but the food wasn't that good. Stick with the beer when you visit this place. Solid four stars for the beer.
How come this place only has one review? Craziness! This place has been a family tradition for who knows how long, enough that the wait staff recognizes us :)
I can't speak for the beers since I don't drink 'em but the hubster and lil' bro always partake and deem them "good" My dad orders the Big But(t) Blonde just b/c the name is funny.
Get Dilly Dippers!!! They are deep fried dill pickle, yes PICKLE, slices and they are incredible. I usually eat one order all by myself. Their burgers are really good, big and juicy and come with their fantastico garlic fries that are loaded with garlic and parsley and salt. They used to be a bit better, not as hard and crunchy, but they are still the yummy.
Wait staff is always nice and attentive, but yes it can get loud in here when there is a band or just a lot of people. Parking can be tricky too since there is a lot directly across the street that says it's only for the Happy Garden Chinese place next door.

Whenever I'm in Elk Grove visiting family I come here. I love this place and wish it were in SF. The food is fantastic. Everything from beer battered fish n chips to beer chili, garlic fries which are awesome! to new york strip steaks and beer battered vegetable which I love. All the food here is fantastic.
Beer is brewed on site and the variety is just way too much to list so I'll mention a few. Big, But Blond Ale - my favorite, Diamondback Wheat Ale and Tropic Ale. You can also get a sampler of six different beers then choose the one you like. Though the sampler will give you a buzz. They also have this awesome dessert which is a deep fried snickers bar covered with vanilla ice cream - Can't even describe it in words it's so scrumptious.
If you're there on a weekend evening you'll be treated to live music which is usually rock - very loud but good. It's very spacious, casual and a mix of families and singles. I like it during lunch when it's nice and quiet. This is a must if you are ever in the Sacramento area. It's located in Old Town Elk Grove just south of Sacto.
Also forgot to mention they do have a children's menu as well and the prices overall are very inexpensive.
God I wish this place was here in San Francisco!!!
