    This is community building 101.

If you are lucky enough to discover it, don't come empty handed. Bring your favorite 22 to share with your brothers (and sisters...and puppies) in hops. But be respectful and don't wake the little ones when they are sleeping upstairs.

Can't wait till the proper location opens on 24th and features Redwood Hills Brewing Company Banyan Tree IPA on draft.

Not a commercially licensed brewpub but a test kitchen of sorts. They serve freshly made home brew ranging from Stout to Pale Ale.Richard offers great hospitality while honing his craft in prep for opening the first brewery in Noe Valley since before prohibition. Enjoy the brew room which was designed by the people from While You Were Out and a chance to hob nob with local Noe Valley residents..

A super charming spot and if my brief experience with Richard and his operation is at all reflective of what his eventual full business will be, we (the local beerloving community) are blessed.

Truthfully, we're blessed already. I wasn't here for more than half an hour, but that time was a neat little taste of San Francisco - imaginative, creative people (Richard the owner, who built up a poker room in his basement into a mini pub and has been honing his homebrewing craft for several years there) who are open and friendly (he puts out a sign from time to time, inviting people into his house to taste his beer. I don't think any of the people there with me actually knew each other, but Richard made it feel like we were all friends). The end goal, to hear him tell it, is a full-serve brewery operation, and I wish him the best getting there - but I was thrilled by this quirky, intimate experience in the house. Thanks Richard!

Walking up the street on the way home with puppy.  See open sign for a brewery a block from home.  Feel very perplexed.  Never saw this sign before, and it look likes someones house. hmmm........
Peek my head into the backyard where the "open" sign was pointing.
me:  "what is going on back here?"
Richard:  "we are just brewin some beer, come on in!"

It really doesn't get any better does it?  I can't wait to watch this baby grow.  Have only had a couple of their beers but so far I really, really like them.  This is one of those places you just have to see for yourself.
Everyone is warm and inviting in this intimite setting.

Brand new neighborhood brewery coming alive in Noe Valley!  I got a preview of the beers home-brewed by Alyson and Richard Brewer-Hay (great beer names), and having been a beer enthusiast for many years, I'm serving my community by hipping suds lovers to some great upcoming brews.

As of today, you can contact Richard and Alyson and they'll invite you and some friends to come over for a private ESB  (Elizabeth Street Brewery) experience.  They're prepping to open a primary, everyday venue where we can take the family and imbibe without an appointment, but alas, all good things come to those who wait.

Exquisitely crafted beer!  Finally!  Check it out...

This place rocks!  It is a destination spot and appointment only makes it all that more appealing.

This place is fantastic! We just celebrated my wife's 30th birthday party in Richard's home pub/brewery. Great hospitality. Richard has lot's of interesting and fun stories to tell about all the memorabilia he's collected, which makes the visit extra entertaining. Two thumbs up for Elizabeth Street Brewery, which is set on the path to greatness.

    This review is way overdue.
I took advice from the other obvious lovers of the ESB and got in touch with Richard via email from my home in Minnesota (in march 09) to organize a birthday surprise for my partner while he accompanied me on some school visits. He said it was the best birthday ever, loved the strange comfort of drinking in a random person's garage and meeting his cute family. We left with a hat which he now wears every day.
The beers are pretty good, but the best part is the atmosphere and the now Yelp-famous Richard and Co. If you're wondering whether or not to check it out, hesitate no further. I hope they're successful in starting the brewpub of their dreams, this family is comprised of excellent candidates for pub ownership.
    Good luck!

Stefan V. is wrong -- it's fair, totally fair, to review this pub.  ESB IS open.  It's a pub with odd hours, weekends mostly.  But it's not a restaurant as the confused Stefan writes.  Elizabeth Street Brewery has a very friendly and inviting atmosphere, and ridonkulous beers.  It's like a slice of auld England where the proprietors don't post regular hours because they live nearby the PUBLIC HOUSE they own/manage.  In fact, most country-side watering holes operate this way -- I lived over the top of one in Heitzing, Vienna's 13th District, on Hoffweisengasse (literally, translating to the festival-beer street house).  People used to just knock on the door or call ahead to ask when, if the pub was open... that's what ESB reminds me of, a quaint and friendly little neighborhood pub that locals know about, and idiots that have never been confuse as a restaurant.  I encourage everyone to call ahead, get to know the owners, because their beer is stupid-good.
