Neighborhoods: Southwest Portland, DowntownI'm sure this wasn't the first elite event where there was sex on your face...but it sure was the first time I've ever seen it. Whoa!

Well, this morning I'm sore. Not from the Sex on my Face, but from the dancing. Laura, you're awesome. What a turn out huh? It was great to see such a large happy group of hoodie toting, Yelp card tossing, YelpStick wearing attractive people in one spot. I'm just sorry I couldn't meet everyone. And wow for the Seattle representation, good lo!
Green Papaya was a good location for this event, dance floor, booths and tables, kind of seperate bar area, 2 exits. Although Krista and I were almost left in the dust when people decided to clear out, as we were getting fresh air on the less used side. A small selection of the app's fit the bill, and Brandon and I were lucky enough to score some extra drink tickets off a fleeing Yelper, bring it!
And DJ RNA throwing down the Lyrics Born, lovelovelove it. Don, you and your lovely dancing wife are fabulous.
I love Yelpers, and I had a wonderful time. Can't wait for the pics (AC, Justin).

I'm a wee bit hungover this morning. Not hating life hungover, but a wee bit of overhang. I was given an ungawdly amount of free booze at this event. Imabreakitdown
- Cool cool cool people...beyond coolness. How the hell can you find so many to pack in one space is beyond my comprehension. But I'm diggin it.
- Hoodies handed out that I won't use to scrub my toilet with. I just moved and it was a reminder that people tend to give me a lot of crappy shirts (and other shirt-esque things) that I'll never wear again and store in my closet for the day I need to do yardwork (yeah right) or paint (yeah yeah right right). Moral of the story, I'm not ashamed of this hoodie. I will gladly tell people we're together.
- Don B. spinning...damn...Q-Tip, Digital Underground's Dowutchyalike...and a whole bunch of other bands and songs that I don't spell right...it was the ishnit.
- Awesome bartender...talk about grace under fire...damn. That dude prepped 3 mix drinks faster than most places serve a shot. That was some Tom Cruise in Cocktail type shit goin' on.
- Laura and her world class wreckin crew...these events just get better and better...and they always kicked ass from the beginning so how the hell you keep upping the ante every time is a mystery to me....but I LUUUURVE IT.
- All you freaky deaky Yeeps who had that Sex in the Face drank with the caulk and bolz whip cream action....you dirty. I love it.
- They played SOUTH PARK on the tv in the bar. Points.
There's a whole mess of other things that impressed me to no end but the tequila swimming around in my system is interfering with my memory receptificationism.
This here thing kicked ass.

There was magic at the GPB last night...
...but that tends to be the case when ever I opt for sex on my face.
I can't give enough thanks to Jeff and Lisa - the two fabulous managers at Green Papaya Bistro.
Jeff, I must admit, I was concerned that you were going to be the sole bartender for the party, until I realized that you have 15 hands that move at light speed. Lisa, you kept the party hopping with hot steaming appetizers that were an absolute delight. You two are absolutely awesome.
The "work crew" - Michelle B, Jonny S, Liz T, Hilary B - you all kept my head on straight. Thanks for putting the "A" in my type A minus. Andrew C, I have no doubt that you made some serious magic with the "material" that you had to work with. You rule. And Don B? No words....just a huge smile and some head bobbing for those mad beats all evening.
Yeeps. Oh yeeps - you know how to throw down. I am honored to call you all friends. As soon as DJ RNA pulled out Justin Timberlake and the dance floor was put to good use, my night was complete.
Um...$2 appetizers from 3-6 and 9-close EVERYDAY? I can't imagine it will be long before I am back again!
CHEERS!

So I've learned a few new things thanks to the Portland Elite Event at the Green Papaya:
1) If you want to catch the train down to Portland, get to the train station on time. No thanks to Yellow Cab showing up 10 minutes late for the pickup, and then the driver taking his sweet ass time getting downtown. Seriously, that should be a 10 minute drive. Not a 30 minute.
2) Driving at 85 is a waste of gas. Cruise control doesn't help that much. Odd bat-like senses of knowing when a State Patrol car is going to be lurking around the next bend helps.
3) Booking your hotel 65 feet from the Elite event is a good thing.
4) Google Maps on your phone is even better.
5) Don't mix excessive liquor drinking with cough medicine. It will make you REALLY LOOPY. I'm naturally loopy to start with. Now compound it like by ten. I apologize to anyone I weirded out. Was my dancing better for it at least?
6) Wear heavier-duty socks if you're going to dance like a maniac. I literally wore two holes in practically new (and favorite) socks. Not small holes either. My big toe was fully exposed, as was my heel. (See event photo)
7) Eat something more than a hot dog and an egg-roll if you're going to drink like a fish. (And pop cold pills on top of it)
8) Get more people's phone numbers so you can figure out where the hell you are in a new city. (Google Maps on your phone negates this)
This was a blast folks! Thanks for making us Seattlites feel welcome!

Entertaining elite events elate me!
It was great to meet so many new Yelpers, I just wish the evening was longer so I could have met even more people. But it was still fantastically fun given the fine cocktails, fabulous hoodies (three cheers for not-red!), and the extreme wonderfulness of all the yelpers.
Thanks also to Laura N., DJ RNA, Yelp, Green Papaya, & whoever else helped make the Event as completely fantastic as it was!

Good times. Got to shake Lauren G's hand, I like her, she makes me giggle. It's always a pleasure to see Laura and Andrew the picture man
The eggrolls, however, great going in, not so much coming out.

I'm sitting in my Yelp hoodie right now. I could have just as easily went to sleep in it, but I held back. I love it. It is not a walking advertisement and actually good quality. Thank you Yelp for filling my wardrobe. My lack of body heat thanks you too.
Last night was tipping the scale in absolute, amazing, awesome Yeep fun. Just when I think it can't get any better, it does. Lots of people, lots of new faces, lots of fun! I loved the space (big thanks to Green Papaya for putting up with our shenanigans), especially the rockin' little dance floor for those of us who need a little bit of alcohol to get motivation. Big thanks to DJ RNA for doing his thang. It's never a disappointment.
Oh bartender (Jeff!) you are the king of all bartenders. Your mad skills are swoon-worthy. You didn't bat an eyelash to the mad dash of alcoholics headed your way. I heard not a single complaint from the exotic drinks being ordered, and I'm pretty sure I want to bathe in a tub of the vanilla Thai tea. It was that delicious. The Sex on your Face artwork was fantastic. I'm really glad I talked the sister (Sabrina H.) into getting it. God knows I don't want scandalous pictures like that coming back to haunt me. It was priceless.
A great night that left a smile on my face when I fell into bed this morning, hugging my hoodie tight.

Wow, that was fun.
Mad props to Laura for bringing it, as always. I am looking forward to a summer filled to the brim with Yelp!! I can't wait to be involved in more events.
To the Yelp Elite: Thank you thank you thank you for hanging out, bobbing your heads, and enjoying the show. I had a great time playing. Without you, the party is NOTHING.
I can't take credit for the Dee Lite - that was the resident DJ Charlie's first track as he took over from me, and it was obviously a well-timed, well thought out opening salvo. Thanks to Charlie for setting up the sound and letting me take over his DJ space for the first part of last night. The more I play for the Yelp crowd, the more I know what you like. I look forward to my next opportunity to make even those that don't dance, dance.
Props to the staff for keeping such a rowdy (and critical - you know us!!) crowd plied with alcohol and appetizers, and generally in good spirits. Everyone had a smile on their face, and that's a sure sign of a well executed event.
I'm more and more enamored with the GPB every time I go there. This is no exception. I hope they enjoyed the event as much as we did.
Sorry we didn't make it to East End afterward. One drink at Doug Fir was enough to send me home just under the limit. :)
Until next time...

As I rushed out the door this morning, my mind on the Farmers Market, I reached out to grab my new Yelp hoodie from the porch railing, where I had aired it overnight (East End smoke). My hand froze in a strange salute.
It was like that telescoping moment in "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve reaching out to the ravishing but vanishing Jane Seymour wailing "Richard, Richard!"
The hoodie is blue. Not black. Blue. For a moment I questioned everything I know to be true. Everything..... But that's how hangovers are for me, philosophical.
Great times last night! I even boogied (unheard of, I assure you, for obvious reasons). Lashings of compliments all around to everyone. Can't wait for the next event!
Blue, really? Is it like a mood hoodie, or will it turn black again in the presence of other Yelp Elites?

Let's see:
- Free hoodies (I am SO wearing mine right now)
- Free drinks
- Free food
- Awesome turnout
- Awesome people
- Sabrina being scandalized by the whipped cream creation of the bartender
- Me 'n' Andrew poppin' our hoods and dancin' like Eminem
How could this possibly be LESS than five stars?

I can't wait for the next one. What a fantastic group you all are! Great drinks, music, and company made for the perfect evening. I always cherish an opportunity to embarrass myself on the dance floor as well. Thanks to Laura, Don, Michelle and everyone else who had a hand in making a fantastic event.
Glad to see some Seattle Yelpers there checking out our awesome city...I saw how jealous they looked! :)

Something about a Yelp event makes me hyper from the second I get there. I have no idea why, but I feel like I can't sit still and not be mingling or something. And I'm not really too keen on the word "mingling" in the first place. I swear it's not the alcohol. I mean, it doesn't hurt, but alcohol is a depressant anyways, right? Ah, so be it.
I suppose I must give in to being an extrovert. I'm totally my mother.
This one was great! Had a good time with old and new. Love the locale. Love the apparel. Love the pics. You know what I love? Love.

I had a Yelpishly great time last night. I probably should be hung over from those drinks, yet surprisingly I'm not--allowing me to continue to bask in the glow of a really fun night out. (Plus, I am sportin a fine new Yelp hoodie today...thank you).
The mood was happy, the drinks and vittles yummy, and the yelp crowd--of course--was a blast. Thanks to Laura, Yelp, and the Green Papaya for putting together an awesome event! As only my second event, it was such fun meeting more yelpers and putting the faces to the names. I especially enjoyed meeting the infamous Don B. and his fabulous wife--and they got me dancing, too!
Thanks again for the smiles and good times, I am looking forward to future events with the best gang in town.

Unlike the rest of you cool people, my elite hoodie is in the washer right now because it reeks of smoke from EastEnd.

Steam of conscienciousness...trying to remember everything...random thoughts:
-Damn that was some good asparagus, but I say the same thing when I went No. 1. Who called it green beans?
-I wish I would have got a hoodie. I can only blame myself for forgetting to RSVP and having to ride on the coattail of my roommate to get in. Maybe I should have just saved one of my free drink tickets and made a fashionable button...too late!
-Holy DUI Batman! Those drinks were strong! I'm glad I walked home. That bartender was awesome, as were the servers!
-Sooo many Yeeps, how do I choose just one...to talk to.
-It's always a good sign when you wake up the next morning in the same shirt with the "Hi, my name is..." sticker still on it, just in case you're so hungover you can't remember your name. It's also easier on the cops when they fill out the paperwork after throwing you in the slammer.
-Sorry I couldn't make it to East End. I had to tend to a "situation." Hope I can make it to the next event!!!
-I came away with a great first impression from my first Yelp Event. You guys did well at pleasing me. Yes, I'm that conceited.

It's really awkward when you go to a social event alone (and you're shy). I had a really good time here.... A couple of you guys introduced yourselves to me and we had a nice chat. Mostly though, I think it's totally awesome that Laura N. and all you guys at Yelp put all that money and time into making these events really great. Yelp introduces us all to places we might not ever find or experience on our own (and they give us cool stuff for free). I will be coming back to Green Papaya Bistro to check out what they have to offer for dinner. Meanwhile, I will just savor the short time I had there and be thankful (as usual) for free booze and food. I'm sorry I had to leave early...I think I was the only one there that had to be at work the next morning. I do believe a lot of you had some serious drinking ahead of you for the evening........

Well done, everybody. Organizers, Bartender, Dj, & dance committee. The stuff memories are made of. Worthy Bling, too.
My new Hoodie is a comfy companion, and a superb listener, who loves a good time, and doesn't yak *nearly* as competitively as most OTHER Yelpers. (heh)
My sister says she doesn't DO Hoodies.
She just doesn't understand our relationship.
Our first week was fabulous. I wore the new Yelp Hoodie to the Mock Crest for a smoky blast. It handled spilled drinks, without looking like lush gear. It was a worthy wear for a home renovation project too. Our best time so far was rolling around in the muddy garden, poppin' dandelions and gigglin' during a sleety Spring Hail bombardment. It keeps me snug on cold days, and really loves getting muddy, unlike many others requiring higher maintenance, so we'll enjoy a few more seasons.
It doesn't like sitting in the laundry pile very much, however, so I better be as true blue - and tend to it. So we can do it all again.
See you all next time!

Not to be repetitive, but this event kicked ass!!! This was my first Yelp event and thanks to the girl that introduced me to Yelp (among other things), Emily Elizabeth--- I had a blast.
I danced my ass off (still sore!) and my socks got a hole in them too. The place was awesome, the food tasty and the crowd rocked out. The DJ played a great mix of music that hit a cord with everyone. At one point w/ the dance floor filled Emily and I moved a table and rocked out near the toilets.
Even though both of us had early morning classes we had our 2 drinks- they were way stronger than I thought they would be and made fast by a bottle-tossing-machine. I woke up today both groggy and sore. I just wish I had a sex on my face---maybe next time!

My first Elite event and it was smashing all around! The mad bartender lining up lychee martinis four-at-a-time, the delish garlic string beans, DJ RNA throwing out some 'California Love' and showing everybody that 'Groove is in the Heart'.
Finally, I got to place some faces with first name/last initials and I was not disappointed. Big up the Elite, maintaining a long and storied tradition of literary wit and alcohol in tandem indulgence. And of course mad props to Laura N., Don B. and the Green Papaya crew!
Oh yeah and I'm also wearing the awesome hoodie as we speak.

If I wasn't already completely convinced that Yeeps know how to have a good time, this Elite event would have cemented that belief, hands down.
The bar staff was AWESOME, as was the company kept and the great beats from DJ RNA.
Also, I am a sucker for interesting light fixtures. Those bubble lamps all over the ceiling are perfect and I want a ceiling of my own just like it. I don't think I have that many outlets, however, so I'll just have to settle for coming out to Green Papaya frequently.
I demurred from the Sex on Our Faces orgy that was going on, but the dandified lavender martini I did have worked its own sweet magic. It was delicious, as was that Saigon Coffee drink. I was also poured a perfect stiff whiskey-ginger. I approve of this event!

It is so very cool that Yelp has grown large enough to host events like this. Free drinks, food and a hoodie!!!? Thanks to the staff and the Yelpers who hosted this fantastic event, I feel very privileged to have been invited. This was my first time to Green Papaya and I was pleasantly surprised. The cocktail options rocked and the hanging white Chinese globes were sweet!
