Eleven 50, open up.  Open back up.  If I ever were forced to go to Fever (laugh, laugh), I would easily back-out and go to some place like Eleven 50.  It is(was?) the premier electronic, dance club.  Personally, I think it is a notch above Compound.  If you are into electronic, you find some of the best acts.  I saw BT (Yea), Crystal Method (twice), Armin Van Burren, Dj Baby Anne.  And they dont stay for 10 minutes and flake out.  No, they stay the whole night.  Nothing like tap glasses with Baby Anne at 3am.

It is a good diverse mix of crowd.  Yes, there is your cheese factor, greasy hair, buckhead types, but the music makes up for it.

The cover is a little steep at 20 (will probably be higher when it opens).

Is compound the new Eleven 50?  Sigh, I sure hope not.

Another Atlanta club bites the dust....

I read over the holiday that Eleven50 had closed down, and now the website is down too. Not sure what the cause for the closing was, considering that the club was hosting its usual crowd and some high profile events as recently as two or three weeks ago.

I always had a good time at Eleven50 in my slightly younger days. Through a friend of a friend I always was treated well and got in and out without spending a fortune. The stage set up for acts and events was good,a dnthe VIP loft was a nice place to people watch from. Wish I had gotten around to reviewing it before they shut down.

Yippee! I  can't tell you how sad I was when I checked this out earlier in the year and someone had said it was CLOSED. Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! I checked with one of my Atlanta socialites and magazine madams and found out the true story on this staple in the Atlanta club scene. She told me it is under renovation and will be back open sooner than later. The website now confirms that as well.

Stay tuned. This has always been a hot venue to me. There were cabanas here before several other Atlanta clubs and restaurants decided to jump on the "mimic Miami" bandwagon. Can't wait to see how they modernize and distinguish this well known venue for parties and concerts.

eleven 50 was home to the Grady High School Fashion Show, which I played a part this year.  Being there again conjured memories of visits past and reminded me what a truly great club it is.  I have a low tolerance for club. I admit that sometimes I'm a club hater, finding fault with the way girls are dressed, the ambiance, decoration choices etc.  Eleven 50 is an all around great club. I saw either Sasha or Digweed there during the days of techno love that I barely remember, he played a great show though from up on the balcony.  The crowd is up for grabs on any given night. I remember going to that show, waiting in line with a kid who didn't look legal and asked me if I had any Ecstacy to sell him and then entering the floor to an afterwork crowd and couples dancing wedding celebration style to the music of this world famous drum and bass dj.  Bizarre.  On any given weekend , the crowd is diverse.  I've noticed international travelers dressed so fine talking with midtown ladies in black pants and tight halter tops from Lenox Mall. Also folks who just love to dance, I saw an inspiring female dj tribute one year.

The physical space is the most impressive quality of eleven 50.  Outside there is a pool and cabanas for lounging. A few years ago they opened a restaurant which is on the upscale side. The inside features a gallery space that used to be curated by a fabulous artist I know and I'm not sure what they're doing now.  There are a couple bars and a large balcony as It used to be a theater. The cover is around $10, though I admit I've never paid it through the joy of having friends.  eleven 50 lends itself well to events, a beautiful space to host a party, then you can get exactly who you want through the doors by invitation. Otherwise, take your chances!

The club is named eleven50 because it's located on 1150 Peachtree.  Now I haven't been here in ages, so I might not be qualified to write this review, but I'll give it a shot.  Eleven50 is probably the premier club in the "New Buckhead" area, that part of Midtown on Crescent Street that attracts the kind of folks who would normally party in Buckhead proper.  Truthfully it's a really great space-- hip decor, very large, decent drinks.  However, I always thought it was too trendy for its own good, with young folks trying to pass off their Banana Republic outfits as haute couture.  Some time around 3 or 4 years ago, Liquid Groove began booking their parties here, and all of a sudden eleven50 started attracting world-reknowned DJs like Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine, Josh Wink, etc.  Prince has played there twice after having his formal concerts in an arena.  That alone is reason to go (although admittedly, not good enough for me).  It's worth a trip if you're visiting and want to see the hip spots in the ATL.  They'll make you feel like you're visiting a club in NYC which is just really a joke since ATL has a long, long way to go before it can compete with NYC.  The Buckhead girls will annoy the fuck out of you with their "look-at-me-I'm-drunk" dancing.  But it might be fun.  A mixed crowd if I recall correctly, but leans more toward the breeders.
