3 reviews for Elevations Credit Union
I joined Elevations when it was University of Colorado FCU in 2004. They had an office in the Tivoli student union on campus at Auraria where I joined, and I have never had any problems with these awesome folks.
Since they are based in Boulder (and I live in Denver), I have only visited a branch in person once in Westminster (outside the UofC FCU office at Tivoli, which is now a Public Service Credit Union). I make use of the CU service centers located conveniently nearly everywhere for deposits (including having my sister in Indiana deposit a check in my account at a CU service center location...convenient alert!).
A bit of a hassle is the fact that if I want to change my ATM pin, I literally have to drive up north to make the change at an actual branch. Its no big whoop. I have only spoken with friendly, professional people whenever I have needed to contact the call center. They go above and beyond the normal range of customer service to take great care of you.
I would go running and screaming from Wells Fargo to join Elevations. I also had a car loan (snagged a killer interest rate, to boot) through Elevations, and NEVER had any problems. Convenient online banking services available for free, and I can transfer freely between all my accounts (savings, loan, etc).
I am not a member of Elevations, but rather a "sister institution" in my home town. Still, when I walk in there I am treated with the best customer service I have ever received from a bank. Customer service at a bank?!!? I know - hard to believe, right?
I'm all about Credit Unions. So much better than these national banks out there....
This has been my bank for the last 5 years and I can't say I've had any complaints whatsoever. The staff has always been helpful and the locations numerous.
They used to be called U of C FCU which was a bit acronym-y (yup, just made that one up) if you ask me; I suppose the new Elevations name is trying to reach out to more people in the Boulder area beyond CU students.
In any case, one of the great things about Elevations is their excellent on-line banking site which has all the features I've ever needed. Beyond this they also have a good number of free ATM's scattered all around Boulder and even in Colorado Springs near UCCS and DU.
Another great thing I've noticed is that if I over-draw from my checking account, they automatically deduct the remainder from my savings free of charge.
Now I've never over-drafted my account so I can't tell you what happens then. I do know however that the North Boulder location has a coin counter ($76 was the total last time I went in to deposit my coins).
Another thing I really like is the easy accessibility of your money, and the easy ability to transfer funds between savings, checking, and credit card (my Visa is threw them and can be accessed at the same place on-line as my other accounts) on-line.
Further, my girlfriend has a money market account so I know they offer these (which I think I will have to look into...)
Nonetheless, I do have a few complaints: first, that the interest rate they offer on savings accounts is so low that it is not even worth it; and second, that I applied for an auto-loan twice and got rejected, first for not having a cosigner, and the second time for asking for too low an interest rate. The way it is set up is that they ask you what interest rate you want to pay and for how long then decide whether that is reasonable or not. I guess I was being too ambitious, I'm not sure. In any case, I know as a former student that my credit history is pretty minuscule so I can't complain too much.
Still, overall They've done almost everything I've needed or wanted, so good job Elevations.
