I haven't eaten here in awhile but it used to be my favorite place to grab a bite to eat when I was downtown. The sandwiches have so much flavor that you will return again and again. I used to bring dates here all the time for a quick dinner before we went to the movies.
The staff has always been friendly and the service is average (not bad). A great place to eat if you are visiting Indy, but it's mostly a local place.

The Elbow Room is a longtime staple of the north quadrant of downtown.
With the recent expansion upstairs and renovation of downstairs, this establishment is now one of the nicer places to get a reasonably priced meal.
On Wednesday nights, they have a generous fillet steak special for $10 that includes baked potato or fries and a dinner salad. One of the best value steaks I have found in the area.
Beer/drink specials are the usual for downtown, not really all that special. Atmosphere is always good and the service staff is experienced and friendly to regulars and neophytes alike.
Rather you are with a large group in the dining room, grabbing a quick after work drink in the downstairs bar or playing trivia on Thursday nights upstairs.. you will be assured of a good time and be well cared for.

I really love the pictures of historic downtown Indianapolis all over the restaurant. The food is good. I recommend the club sandwich on pita. It's real good. They have speckers root beer too! You have to try that if you are a root beer fan. There is a great view of downtown Indianapolis as well.

This is the classic full-time alchy Cheers-ish sports bar. They serve very good greasy bar food, they're open late, and they have the worlds greatest import drought pitcher special on SUNDAYS, which is the proof positive this place is all about the professional drunk.
The bartenders are also the real deal: no over-rehearsed, "Ice with your diet coke? Lemon or lime?" here.
In the words of Connor Oberst, it was once "my favorite neon sign". Go.
