My hair type: fine and straight

The first time I visited Maggie my hair was destroyed due to sun exposure, bad highlight job (pre-Maggie), and a wine-induced decision to cut my own hair with dull scissors...needless to say, I was a hot mess.

Before my appointment, I had already decided to chop it all off and start over. Maggie was nervous because my hair was really long, but agreed that it was the best way to turn my situation around. When she finished working her magic, my hair looked so CUTE! Not only did she do a great job, but Maggie is also very bubbly and we laughed the entire time.

Another important item to note: Because of my hair type and the way I like to fix my hair, short hairstyles are sometimes difficult and I'm very particular about the shape. There have been a couple of times, after I get home and style my own hair for a couple of days, I notice something that may need to be "fixed" (because I obsess over my straight, blunt cut being precise). I call Maggie and she happily fits me in to her schedule to "fix" whatever is bothering me, free of charge.

Thanks to Maggie, my hair is back its shiny, healthy, soft self. I wouldn't imagine trusting these locks to anyone else.

Really, Maggie did such a great job on my haircut! She listened to what I wanted, which was vague and relatively boring, added a few recommendations, conditioned and massaged the hell out of my hair, cut it beautifully and styled it sassy. It being a Tuesday, I only got to show it off in my own kitchen at home, but I OWNED those turkey burgers by god! Sashay, Turkay. And here it is, 3 days later and I've done NOTHING to it, but sleep on it and pull it out in work frustration, and it still looks great!

I was even there with a Living Social coupon and in the process of "paying" (showing her my deal on my phone) I forgot to tip her. I didn't realize it till that nite and remembered how friendly she'd been as I pranced, nonchalantly, out the door. No stink eye. I went back the next day and made up for it but I thought that was very sweet of her.

If any of you would like to love your hair, just be aware that the Yelp map, it is WRONG. This is NOT on W 38th across from seton hospital, but really off "Old 38th St" and Jefferson.

Got my hair cut by Maggie on my second visit here. I wanted a long bob and she did an awesome job. She said its one of her favorite hairstyles to do and it shows.

She made sure she knew exactly what I wanted before she started and kept checking to see if the length was right, etc.

Mary cut my hair today, and I'll update later to see how it looks tomorrow. I haven't had my hair cut professionally in four years, and Mary did a wonderful job listening to what I wanted but also giving me her professional advice.
I got the cut and deep conditioning treatment. They honored the groupon NOW price on the weekend, which was so nice of them! The conditioning treatment was relaxing, and I can tell my hair's shinier. Mary gave me a really nice shorter cut, and spent lots of time on it. My appointment was at 10:00 and she was with me until almost noon. She also spent lots of time styling my hair for my date tonight, and it looks really really cute.

I typically pooh-pooh hair salons. As the disappointed recipient of many bad (even tear-worthy) expensive haircuts, I normally opt for SuperCuts. But after years of searching, I have finally found a top-notch stylist.

Colleen and I discussed my hair at length before she ever picked up her scissors. Different style choices were bandied about but in the end she made it clear she was going to do it MY way.

She gave me a great blunt cut with nice framing and some much needed thinning. It looked great once it had been blown out with high-end products, but I knew the real test would be ME styling it. I warned Colleen that five minutes with a hair dryer and paddle brush is usually the best I can do. Colleen understood that. Having identified me as a low-maintenance self-stylist, Colleen gave me a cut that works with my lifestyle and I love it.

We also discussed color treatments. My hair used to be blondish, but has gotten very dark and ashy in recent years. Colleen recommend an enzyme lightening treatment which works to pull out latent highlights in your hair. She processed a sample of my hair and, liking the preliminary results, I returned a few weeks later for a treatment. I LOVE IT! I can't stop looking at myself in the mirror. The color is very natural and bright and it wasn't nearly as expensive as a dye-job.

So in a nutshell, Colleen knows her stuff. I will return.

Colleen at Elan Hair Studio gives a great haircut. She puts in more time and effort to the style than anyone who has ever cut my hair (and I am in my mid 40s and have had lots of haircuts). I am not a guy who even cares that much about a haircut. I started going to Colleen because she is my friend, but after six months I keep going back because she is the best . She does mostly women's hair (and is great at that too).... but as a guy, I give five stars!

Terry was GREAT! So friendly, funny, a great conversationist, gave me good pointers, and my hair looked great all weekend while I did nothing to it but abuse it on the lake. I told her I was low maintenance and she layered it so my hair has been actually behaving in nice curls while I've been running around. (update: she now works at Shade Tree Studio Salon 509B West Lynn) The salon was beautiful and they had free coffee, cokes, and even cookies the day I went.

My hair used to be the recipient of Framesi hair color. It was amazing, but as the years went on, fewer and fewer salons used it. I think mainly because all the other companies market so heavily to salons, and Framesi doesn't. It's from Italy.

I moved to Austin in February, found Elan, found Colleen. Wow! She really knows color, and how to make you look great. You don't just slap on color and call it a day. She really looked at my skin coloring, lifestyle etc and I ended up with a beautiful dark brown with some slightly lighter highlights.

The challenge was I told her I wanted a warm brown but with no red in it. That's a challenge, but she made it happen.

Highly recommend.

I had not cut or managed my hair in about 3+ years (kids, school, life in general). At first I decided to cut my hair (16 inches or so) as a form of rebelling against my mother and went in expecting to come out with just a hair cut and hair dye but I have to say that I came out with a renewed sense of confidence and AMAZING color and cut job! Mary did a fabulous job and was not your typical "forced conversation" stylist. She was pleasant to talk with and managed to squeeze me in for my color job. I highly recommend her and the the friendly staff with the neat and clean salon.

My sister told me about a special for this salon on Living Social and it seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. I had my hair washed, deep conditioned, cut, and styled for $45 by Maggie, and she did an AMAZING job! I had my hair done yesterday and have already recommended Maggie to 4 people. All of the staff was very friendly and the salon was a very clean, welcoming place. I will definitely be coming back again!
