The most authentic mexican food you can get around UP. Seriously you are so deprived of authentic Mexican food when you live in the Northwest. I lived in Canada before, and then in Washington so I thought Taco Bell was real Mexican. I live in LA now and BOY WAS I WRONG.

I remember this was the best place in University Place though, a lot of people raved about the food. My best bud and I went and tried the place and I loved the decor! It was very bright, warm and fiesta-ish. They had good chips (homemade I suspect) and the waiter was the "perfect" waiter. He was attentive, nice, read our freakin minds when we needed something.

I had an enchilada and it was really good though I felt a little guilty that I only consumed chips, tortillas, beans, cheese, and meat. The portions are quite generous, prices are reasonable and I haven't tried it myself but heard the fried icecream is amazing! Def go try!

one of my friends work here for the summer and I've always heard about El Toro from random chit chat amongst acquaintances and friends so I finally decided to come.

First of all, let me state that I am a green salsa whore. It's like crack to me - I can never get enough of it. Mix my unquenchable addiction to green salsa with FREE chips with red and green salsa, and a BAD combination. Lol. Me and my friends killed the basket of chips within the 2-3 minutes after it was given to us.

I ordered the Mocaljete, Chorizo (Mexican Sausage grounds) with your choice of steak of chicken mixed with onions, peppers, tomatoes and cilantro (yum). It's served in a huge stone bowl with a side of rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, vegetables and fresh tomato salsa + tortillas. The meal was HUGE. It definitely was tasty. I recommend this as it is one of the restaurants specialties.

Service is EXCELLENT. I've had about 2 different waitresses and 1 busboy constantly checking up on us (it was little annoying lol). Our water was never empty and our chips and salsa was always refilled.

If it could be a little cheaper (around $16 for my meal not including tip), it would be 5-stars

I gave this four stars but would have rather given it 3 1/2.  We just moved to UP so are in the process of eating at as many local places as we can.  I do like mexican food and we've been eying this place so last night we gave it a try.  Sunday night is a good time as far as crowds go.  It's not fancy inside but the service is very good and pleasant.  Both my husband and I had the enchaladas verde, mine with cheese and his with beef.  They were good but not great.  However, when I added the green salsa that came with the chips, wow, that really made them pop.  One of the best salsa's I've had.  They also served a side of what can only be termed as mexican cold slaw which was a bit strange but tasted good.  We'll go back because it's close and the food while not gourmet is certainly tasty.
