I make my quarterly trip to this truck and their tacos are right on everytime!  They used to be $1 tacos but they just raised the price to $1.25.  That's OK! I'd pay whatever it takes to get one of those in my mouth! Must be the rising gas prices.

You will never have a better tasting Asada or Pastor taco.  I have been sampling tacos at every random taqueria I pass by and no no no...nothing has been able to live up to the De Oro roach coach. :)

Be sure to take some breath mints cause those onions will stay with you all day!!

Why are there two separate entries for Taco De Oro Taco truck?  Because there are two trucks!  Simple answer but true.

This location has actual seating because the truck is in front of a store which has less seating but the seating they have is more formal, AKA table and chairs with some seats inside the store.
The other location is the one near the park, so seating is limited to the park area (mostly benches from the baseball field) but there are lots of seats and plenty of street parking.

The tacos here are hot off the grill, so hot you can hardly eat them without letting them cool down for a while.  They are cheap and tasty.  Sure the meat could be better, but then they would cost more, is that necessary for eating off a taco truck?  No.  Order a bunch and enjoy.  Hopefully the weather is good.

First of all don't get these Taco de Oro trucks confused with any other Taco de Oros. They used to have a restaurant in Mountain View on Middlefield Rd but the owner sold the location and went strictly roach coach after that. I was going there for years until I became aware that their food didn't taste the same anymore. After it was sold the new owner retained the name but not the recipes. I though I would never find the signature Taco de Oro taste again :-(

A few years later my co-worker asked me if I wanted to go to a burrito truck so I went with him. He kept on telling me that their food was hella good but I knew for certain that it could not top TDO. When we arrived at the truck, low and behold it was surprisingly named Taco de Oro and was crossing my fingers that it would be the same food I dearly missed for years. I ordered the same food I order at most Mexican restaurants...carne asada burrito w/o rice and beans and a couple of tacos with extra hot sauce on the side. That was a day to remember because I finally tracked down TDO after so many years of Mexican food misery.

Their burritos and tacos are to die for! I always skip the rice and beans for my TDO burritos and they don't skimp at all on the meat. I think their meat is marinated in the same hot sauce they offer on the side. As for the hot sauce....BEST HOT SAUCE, EVER! There's nothing like it. If you have enough of it I swear it gets you high! I challenge anyone on the face of this earth to find a better hot sauce than what they offer at TDO.

out of 5 stars it gets a 6

Mmm, good tacos.  $1.25 each, nice and tasty, the only problem is they are pretty bite sized (needed 6 to get full, 4 asada, 2 pollo).  They also have the good coca-cola, the mexican ones that come in bottles.  Got kinda pricy as the tacos add up, it's better value to get full on one of the monster burritos.  Good way to spend your lunch hour, eating with coworkers on baseball bleachers, haha.

Apparently the El Taco de Oro truck parked at the mini-mart is not the real one.  This is the real one.

Plenty of people were standing in line to put their orders in and we ate the $1.25 tacos behind the school while sitting on the bleachers.  The Al pastor here is really good.  Carne Asada is so so.

I've been going here for many years. Their tacos are simply divine. The price was raised fairly recently from $1 to $1.25. I usually get five or six tacos. The food is still good even after the indoor area was closed off. Now, you can eat inside the mart or there are a couple tables outside. They used to have waiter service, but I was there recently and now everyone has to order from the truck outside. There are various drinks in the mart, I recommend a Kern's nectar to help neutralize things as they go down. The crowd is usually tech workers and locals. There may be flies around, it's not the cleanest place. Pretend you're in Mexico City and you might feel better.

I love their carne asada and carnitas. Mentally prepare yourself for some serious food coma though, this stuff is not for the faint of heart. I recommend a post lunch coffee at your favorite shop (Starbucks, Peets, etc.), both are fairly close by.

This place has the BEST tacos I've ever eaten.. and I've eaten tacos at a lot of different places.  I always get chicken tacos and they are so flavorful!  You can't beat the price either.

I used to come here before they cooked out of a truck but I didn't notice how wonderful the food was until they started with the truck outside.  Whoda thunk??

Tacos de Oro...what happened to the good ole days.  The food is the same great tasting scrumptious delight as it should be..but the customer service has slipped.  Tacos de Oro was once a 4.5 star establishment for me, but after today they lost a star.

Food was awesome....no complaints or questioning that.  The tacos are the bomb.  Carnitas, Al Pastor, or Asada...all good!

The part that was bad was ordering the tacos.  There used to be a senorita working there that would take the orders and you got what you ordered.  No mess ups or anything.  When you ask for spicy carrots you don't get green salsa.  When you ask for 4 super tacos asada, 4 super tacos carnitas, and 2 reg tacos...you don't get 4 super tacos asada, 2 super tacos carnitas, and 2 reg tacos.  I ended up giving up trying to get the extra salsa on the side and the carrots on the side.  Currently there are two guys that operate this truck on alviso.  Neither speak good english..so unless your spanish is on point..beware.  Where o where did you go senorita...that never messed up the order.  If and when the lady returns she herself will being Oro back to the 4.5 star establishment that they used to and should be.

Yum - taco truck food. The ultimate no ambiance, cheap but good food. This one is no exception.

Most of the folks were ordering in Spanish while we were there - always a good sign. The price for tacos has gone up a quarter to $1.25 but still is a good deal. Burritos are reasonably priced and tasty - I recommend the flavorful carne asada over the rather tasteless lengua. As a nice touch, burritoes also come with radishes, jalepenos en escabeche, and a slice of lime. Jarritos sodas are $1.70 inside the little market.

Honestly, I am still looking for a taco truck as good as the one that used to drive by work in Redwood City (it was so good, folks used to drive up and wait for it to arrive) but this certainly will fufull my taco needs whenever I am in the area.

Honestly, what is so bad about naming your taco truck 'Golden Taco'?

My god these are great tacos. They are small, corn tacos so it takes 3 or 4 to make a lunch. But the price is right (about 1.25 a taco).

Either go to the little cafe/food shop where the taco truck is parked or go around the corner to a local construction site and enjoy the tacos sitting on the bleachers of a baseball field.

This was a favorite haunt when I worked at Yahoo! and all one had to say was "Taco Truck" and a crowd would gather.

I didn't think the tacos were ALL that... even for $1.25 each (creme and shredded white cheese for a quarter more).

They tasted like very normal tacos to me, and I've been to a ton of different SJ taco trucks.  I wasn't digging the shredded cheese... esp when it isn't melted.  And I was wishing for the freshness of some white onions and cilantro.  And there is nothing special about their salsa.  My carne asada was also dry.

Their burrito was also a 'what's the big deal' burrito also.

Hmm, did I go to the same taco truck as everybody??

i've only been here once so far, and it was a trek just to get there. but seriously, "tacos of gold"? i don't know about that. i had the torta al pastor and it was just a bunch of little chunks or pork between two buns.

i think i would have to come back and try something else before i completely give this one an F minus as Alexander L. would put it.

i love the prices and the location was kinda like a treasure hunt, so if you're down for an inexpensive adventure, el taco de oro is the place to be.

but seriously, "tacos of gold"? they might as well call it, "el taco en la boca." (tacos in the mouth)

I eat here at least once a week, a $5 super burrito is a meal in itself! The regular salsa is a tad too spicy for me, so I get the mild and add Tapatia to taste. I've only had their burritos, they are so good that I haven't been tempted to try anything else. You can't go wrong with the carne asada.

This is my favorite place near work to eat taqueria.  Very very authentic, tacos taste the closest to those that I had in mexico out of anywhere else I've been.  I usually go with either a super burrito, or a regular burrito and 1 taco.  Always get the red and green salsas on the side - great to dump on eat with your food.  It can be real crowded here like everywhere else, so I sometimes get it on the run.

I work in HR for AccessClosure in Mountain View, and after reading everyone's reviews I decided to ask them to park their lunch truck at our building. They were so friendly, and they agreed to drive to our building everyday! Talk about customer service! I love them... They live up to the hype! If you're around Mountain View and need some brunch, they park at our building from 10:15-11:15 Monday thru Friday. Super Yummy!!! I swear I had 5 Carne tacos just today! They really are addicting...

Tacos del Oro has a restaurant on North First Street, though they cook out of a trunk in front!  They also have a truck in front of the new Alviso Fire Dept near the field by the Alviso library (see photo).  The tacos are flavorful and spicy, but these are my favorite burritos around.  I get carnitas without rice, light salsa, and 2 limes no jalepeno, to go please.  Good eats and still a value at $1/taco, and $3.50/burrito with $5 super burrito with optional guacamole and sour cream.  Try one soon and you'll be hooked.

**I love you, taco truck!!**

Not sure if there is more than one - I think there is - because yesterday when I had to drive to the crap Alviso post office I passed the one next to the little bodega - and today we drove to the one behind the baseball field.

I work about a mile away and people rave about the taco truck, so I crashed the party of a group of coworkers who were driving over, and it was sooo worth it.

Fried tortillas topped with pollo asado, onion, cilantro, sauce (red or green - your choice), cheese, sour cream - yum those super tacos rocked my world.  I got three and I probably could've eaten more, but glad I didn't - it would've made it harder to sit through the rest of the day without thinking about them longingly.

Tacos are now $1.25, super tacos are $1.50.  They rock.  Less than $5 for a filling, awesome, yum lunch that I can eat picnic style?  Sign me up.

Oh how I miss this taco truck. There are competing taco trucks that move around the area, but this is THE best.  Get the red sauce...it's the best. And the asada is wonderful. I always preferred the truck over the sit down place.

For burritos, I actually just go with the beans/rice plus the onions/cilantro/sauce. There's something about the sauce that's addictive. And don't forget the jalapeno.

I was a little afraid of eating out of a truck, but I've never been sick from the food, and I ate there at least once a week for oh...at least 5 years.

El Taco De Oro. . .

El Taco De Oro, for those who do not know what El Taco De Oro is. It just so happens to be a Taco truck parked outside a building, near a run down area.

Today was the first day the group headed out in search of this infamous taco truck. It is located right on North First Street, just a little ways over the 237 overpass.

As you drive down the road, you will notice a taco truck parked very close to a run down building. Here are the steps we took on the journey.

Steps :

1. Drive to the taco truck.
2. Park car in parking lot.
3. Exit car and walk up to the taco truck.
4. Notice the limited amount of choices. "Even though it only had a small amount to choose from, the price and taste are well worth it.
5. Order your food. "I picked 3 chicken tacos with no tomatoes  or lettuce".
6. Take the ticket you are given and head into the building.
7. Pay and sit down and wait. "The food is then brought to you where you sit".
8. Sit back and enjoy the amazing taste these little tacos have.

In conclusion, El Taco De Oro is a place you need to be for tacos. Yes they are a little on the small side, but the flavor packs a punch like no other.

Price range $1.25 - $1.50 if you want cheese.

If I could give this four-wheeled taqueria 6, 7 or 1,000 stars, I sooo would!!  These tacos are the BY FAR the best tacos in the Bay Area.
I think the simple fact that a roach-coach, $1 taco truck is on Yelp says A LOT!

Taco De Oro is located behind George W. Mayne elementary school's baseball field (I attended preschool-4th grade there!).  There is usually a line but to tell the truth, the wait is quite enjoyable---standing in the outskirts of Silicon Valley and hearing marshbirds chirp as you wait for your delicious (and inexpensive!) meal makes this spot very unique.  Great food, great prices, cool location.  What else could you ask for!?

If I could give THE Taco Truck a million stars I would. My friend introduced me to this place some time ago telling me I had to try the best tacos ever. I was apprehensive at first since I never buy food from a place on wheels, but I caved in and gave it a try. The moment I sank my teeth into the carne asada taco, topped off with sourcream, shredded cheese, salsa...I thought I died and had gone to Taco Heaven. I drive 20 minutes from work to meet up with some buddies who are fortunate enough to work 5 minutes away from this landmark. If I'm willing to drive a 40 minute round trip during my hour lunch, you KNOW this place has to be the SHIT!

It's the best Mexican food place in the area.  If you're craving a taco or super burrito go here.  Their Al pastor and carne asada super burritos are excellent.  Seating is limited because this is a taco truck but don't let that skew your opinion about the quality of their dishes.  There is also a mini-mart next to it.  Not sure if they sell anything that's "authentic" but they  have a few snacks and candies that you won't find at a Safeway.

The truck seems to be anchored to a mini-mart selling Mexican groceries on the corner of Michigan and N. 1 St. (if this is one of those impostor trucks, let me know)

I stopped by to try a couple of cheapie tacos after a disappointing meal down the road.

I peeked at the menu on the truck and a woman came out of the mini mart to take my order. I got one pastor and one beef taco for a total of 2.50.

I checked out the inside of the market while waiting. It could use some work, but there is seating for 20 people or so inside.

After about 10 minutes I got my order. The beef was OK, the pastor good. I would come back and try a burrito, but defiantly take it to go...

I read all these nice reviews and went to try it out!

I got a regular veggie burrito. It was really flavorful from the very first bite. Rice had excellent aroma and flavor. I did find it on the spicy side though. I am Indian and I can handle spices! But my nose started running by the time was done eating this fine burrito! They also gave small pieces of radish and lime and pickled Jalapeo.

I am giving it a 3 star because it was a bare-bone burrito. No lettuce, no sour cream. Just rice and beans. I think that's a little less for $3.50.

One thing I did notice though was that the truck was spic and span! VERY VERY CLEAN!

Stay tuned! I will post more reviews as I try other stuff.

A long long time ago..... (well three years).....
In a galaxy far far away..... (well Alviso)......

I discovered.... TRUCK TACO's!!!

When I first moved to the area, a work colleague invited me to my local initiation, i.e. Truck Tacos.  This is apparently a tradition of these parts, and known only by the few and the brave (although you can guarantee there will be many people standing in line every day).

The basics:
* A truck, parked up every day behind what seems to be an unused baseball field
* Selling the finest Taco's you can get for a dollar.  In fact, probably the finest you can get for 5 or 6 dollars probably.

Thats all you need to know. Suffice it to say, if you dont get there early enough, you could have a 10 minute wait for your Taco's, but even if you do, they are well worth it.

You dont stand on ceremony here..... what no service, chairs, tables?..... not here you big girls blouse!  Here you cut food down to it's finest form.....Spicy, juicy and enjoyed in the fresh air surroundings of Alviso!  Hmmmmmm... Tasty!

This is a taco truck parked right outside a little store where you can buy drinks and other snacks, and there are also a few tables where you can sit and eat your meal if there is enough room. I wish a place like this was open 24 hours. When I have the late night munchies, I'd much rather have five authentic, fresh and delicious tacos in my belly over a nacho-and-gorditos fast food meal any day.

Against my better judgement (only because I recently entered another "Biggest Loser" contest with some other co-workers haha), I ordered three carne asada tacos and two carnitas tacos. My co-workers ordered theirs with lengua and pollo.  Basically how it works is that you order from the truck outside and they will bring the food to you depending on where you're sitting or standing. We were inside so they brought it to our table. I concur with Theda E., this meal was perfect washed down with a tamarindo. Although in my case, a horchata might have been better to quell the fire in my mouth :D I'd have gotten one if they had them that day, but they were out today.

Everything was great overall - a bit spicy by my standards, but I'm one of those people who can't handle spicy food and eats it anyway because it's just that delicious. And it's cheap! Bring cash.

I had often heard about the [legendary] lunchtime exploits down at the "Taco Truck" from the skillful lunchtime selectors I work wiff. So I was pretty excited to rollup to this random baseball field in Alviso, near the salt flats at the end of the Bay. As we wheeled up, there was only one Taco Truck, "de Oro" (so the imposters must've run outta bizness!)

Tacos are  $1 each and you have a wide variety of meats to choose from (Veggie options are pretty slim) To give some perspective, 2-3 tacos might satisfy a small person (5'1" 105lbs) and 8-10 tacos, a medium sized linebacker (6'2", 215lbs)

Being a scientist, I decided to try several different flavours. I ordered 2 tacos (al pastor & asada) and a carnitas burrito to go wiff.  After you order, you wait in the shade for your order, then head over to the bleachers by the baseball field to consume.

Looking at my tacos, I figgered, "pretty good", no, no, no ... they were staggeringly delicious and nothing short of phenomenal!  The burrito on the other hand was good, but next time I shoulda gone with the superburrito, since the "regular" doesn't include sourcream or avocado, basic iO burrito requirements.

After stuffing myself silly, I noticed behind the taco truck that the Yahoo Company Shuttle was parked just in front of us. Hahaha! folks@yahoo.com are serious about their tacos!! hahaha!!  5 Stars con muchisima gusto!!

Two of us went here for lunch 6/22/06.  It was my first time there, friend has been before.  I ordered for us: 2 lengua (tongue) tacos, 2 pastor (pork), and 2 carnitas (pork), 1 Gatorade, and 1 Diet Coke (no Diet Pepsi).  Total was $8.50.

It was all ok, but my favorite had to be the lengua.  Very tender with onions and kinda spicy.  Comes with 2 corn tortillas and some radishes.  Carnitas and pastor just ok, not the best.

Tacos are $1 each; burritos $3.00; torta $2.50; Super Burrito $4.50; Taco w/ cheese $1.25.

Think it's Cash only.

It's at Wilson (at Grand Blvd) Alviso, next to the softball field.

Why go to Taco Hell, when you can get the real deal for less than the price of a chalupa? For $1 per taco, you can't have a tastier and cheaper lunch! Choose from carnitas, pastor, carne asada, cabeza, lengua and I believe they added chicken; they have also expanded to include burritos. Order your tacos, a tamarindo to wash it down and find a spot at the baseball field. Or, you can head over to the marshland area; there are a few picnic tables. Plus, you can spy on some couples having a clandestine lunch...seems to be a secret spot for affairs!

Be sure you go to the taco truck that says "Tacos de Oro"...there are imposters trying to swoop in on the business.

I was introduced to the taco truck phenom about a year ago by one of my co-workers.  It was a life changing experience.  The taco truck defies everything that is exemplary.  It's in the middle of nowhere.  It's catered out of a truck for petes sake!  Yet these tacos pack a huge punch.  Once you take your first bite, a sense of self gratification and overwhelming bliss quickly overcomes you.  Truly sensational.  The taco truck is like a fresh spring in the middle of the desert, only this is no mirage.  My buddy and I go at least once a week, and we're never disappointed.  I always go with 2 carne asada(beef) and 2 carnitas(pork) with spicy carrots as a perfect complimentary item.  This place would be hands down a 5 star rating, however, i'm still bitter about the jump from $1.00 to $1.25($1.50 if u want to add sour cream and cheese).  Hell, I'll give it a 5 anyway. They are too great to deny.  All in all, a must try.  Plus you can never get enough of all the business-type moguls with their dress shirts and slacks, succumbing to the same delights as everyday people...out of a truck nonetheless.  I think i even saw the CEO of Cisco scarfing a few down.  No joke.  Tacos include: meat of choice, salsa, cilantro, onions and sour cream & cheese by request.

Lives up to the hype!  Truly the best taco truck you can find. The long lines at lunchtime say it all. For $1 per taco you can get yourself a tasty meal on the cheap, plus the picnic-like experience of eating outdoors on the softball bleachers. My coworkers were reluctant to drive 15 miles for food from a truck but now they're always asking when we're going next.  It's so popular that there was an impostor truck for a while, but now Tacos De Oro has two trucks so the lines aren't as long.

I usually get 3 tacos with carnitas or carne asada, plus a jarritos tamrind to wash it down.

My co-workers and I drive all the way out to Alviso just to go to this truck, which serves up some of the most delicious tacos around.  Their secret weapon is their tortillas, which are just ever so slightly fried, putting their texture and color (thus the name) halfway between a hard and soft shell taco.  Well worth the drive.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the price.  At a dollar each, I've been known to eat seven.

i used to frequent this truck when i lived and worked in santa clara.  it is one of the very few things i miss about living in the southbay, "tongue tacos of gold."  they are by far the best street tacos i've had outside of mexico.  since moving back to the city five years ago, i've been on a quest for a new favorite but have failed to find one in san francisco that compares.

i'm getting desperate!  pm me if you are in the know and i will name my first born after you.

Oh man, I can't believe people are reviewing the legendary taco truck. I love it!

Don't go there wearing white skirts or suits cuz you'll be sitting by the baseball field chugging down soda along with simply put the best tacos you ever had in Bay Area.

This place is pretty much like an undiscovered gold mine. My friend took me here for lunch one time and lemme tell you, I was pretty amazed.

First of all, I'm a fan of cheap prices. When you have $1 tacos and $3 burritos, I'm sold. Also, when you have cheap prices you expect the food to be slightly substandard. Not so at Taco De Oro. The tacos are flavorful and I'd say even better than some taquerias.

The burritos aren't as good as the tacos IMO. It's slightly too greasy. Next time I go, I would get all tacos. I would also rank the meat as follows:

1) Carnitas (moist and flavorful)
2) Asada (A tad greasy, but overall decent)
3) Pastor (not as flavorful as other taquerias)

They also serve up Lenguas and Cabezas if you're into those kind of things.

Simplicity at its best.  A little spicy for me, but yummy.  I accidentally ate my husband's extra taco last time, didn't even think about it until it was gone.
