if you want authenitc mexican food & you're in the area, don't pass up this dumpy little gem in the minimall on nw corner of 59/kedzie.
they have various dishes that include this great tomato-based sauce with sliced hot peppers which you can pick out to your tolerance to spicyness.
and those are:
-huevos rancheros: over easy eggs covered with this sauce.
-chilles rellenos: cheese stuffed bell peppers
-bistek ranchero: thin steak with almost enough grisle to kill the dish. (substandard meat)
-bistek a la mexicana: same as above but cut up.(my choice bet.the 2)
also good:
huevos a la mexicana: scrambled eggs with onions, tomatoes, & ( a little spicy) serrano peppers. i think they get carried away with the veg's in this dish, so i just ask for " poquita verduda" (just a little vegs)
or just don't say anything & simlpy pick out what i don't want.
huevos con chorizo: scrambled eggs with this mildly spicy mexican sausage. again, what is an otherwise great dish, they overdo the chorizo. i just ask for the chorizo on the side & mix it in to my taste.
above caveats notwithstanding you can safely order any other dish without being dissapointed.
yes, they have freshly squeezed o.j.
you might want that food to go for 2 reasons:
1) bad ventilation means you'll smell like food the rest of the day.
2) as with a lot of mexican restaurants, the music is way TOO LOUD.
other than that, enjoy
