8 reviews for El Salto Mexican Restaurant
If traditional is what you want, traditional is what you are going to get . Down to the point that you might have a tough time finding anyone who works there that speaks English, which is just fine by me. I'd very much prefer tasty food to social interaction with the server. This place has almost a cult following in the area. Everyone local seems to have this "little Mexican place" that they like to take guests and out-of-towners to, and El Salto is it.
As an "insider" to this place, i have to recommend that you order the queso with your normal starter of chips and salsa. The cheese that they use is to die for. I even usually save it to pour over my dish after i'm done with the chips. I can't say that i've ever had a bad meal here, so the whole menu gets my recommendation. Just pick out your favorite Mexican meal and have a great time.
This place is very underwhelming especially since when I moved to Parkville a few years ago it came highly recommended. I am perplexed by the positive, raving reviews.
The food is okay at best. Skip the chips and salsa: the salsa is essentially marinara sauce and the chips taste like stale tostitos.
To the reviewers who compared this with authentic tex-mex in the Southwest, I cannot understand that. The food here is more comparable to Taco Bell. The saving grace of El Salto is that it is one of the only restaurants of its kind in the area.
Not a place you go to for the decor go for the terrific food. The service is good and not pushy and there was no food auction. The margaritas tasted way more authentic than any chain restaurant.
I've always liked the place, but that was before becoming vegetarian. They aren't vegetarian friendly at all. Before, I would eat their shrimp cocktail or just about any of their "vegetarian" entrees, which I truly doubt are vegetarian because the beans and rice usually have pork or pork broth. Oh well. I used to wish, since they do Mexican so well, tha they would add some fish tacos to the menu. But the best I've ever had were still in San Diego. C'est la vie.
The servers are overworked and in a hurry, but if you can hit it in a down time, you might be pleasantly surprised.
It's super cheap. My husband and I ate there for less than fast-food prices.
If you like authentic Mexican this is your place. El Salto has the feel of a west coast/mexican joint right in parkville. Its fun because the servers will try to speak spanish to you instead of english. I dont know if this is because they dont actually speak english or they are trying to impress their clientele. El Salto also does the re-fried beans the right way. Everything about this place is authentic, and if you are a foodie and have a weakness for Mexi then get here fast.
Don't let the strip mall location deter you- this is an excellent Mexican restaurant. They have a large menu with several combinations and specials. The service is always wicked fast and friendly. The ambiance is casual. The food itself is consistently tasty and satisfying and has never disappointed.
Truly the best "hole in the wall" authentic tex mex place in Baltimore. It is chill and a totally low key place to go with friends and just eat good food. The prices are ridiculously low - and the food is great. Margaritas are good - get the TX margarita with the extra shot - much better. This is my favorite place to go when I start missing Fort Worth and Dallas.
I really wanted to like this place more. The food was okay, a little on the bland side, and the margaritas mediocre. I've had friends that absolutely LOVE this place, so maybe I just ordered wrong. I did enjoy the relatively quiet atmosphere and that I could get right in, so maybe I'll give it another shot sometime.
