I can't believe there aren't a million reviews - this place is the BEST! We've stayed here 3 times over the years and it just keeps getting better and better.
First of all, the people are great - very friendly and helpful.
The property is very well maintained - very nice pool, plants throughout the property, bird baths, etc.
Most importantly, the rooms are PERFECT.  Super clean (which we love), comfortable, attractive rooms (tiles, decorations, beam ceiling, etc.)
Definitely the best place to stay in Santa Fe!

We found this place by accident and we're really glad we stayed. El Rey has a wonderful southwestern charm and strives to maintain its old Route 66 mystique. Everything is very clean and well maintained and the staff is very helpful and friendly. What's more, the free breakfasts are excellent. We were lucky to stay in the newer part near the pool and hot tub. Only one complaint: If you're in the first floor, the noise from people walking around on the second floor can be a little annoying.

I'm kind of a hotel snob. I travel a lot and am kind of finnicky about the places that I say.

However, El Rey impressed me. It definitely doesn't try to be a high class fancy pants hotel. It instead focuses on delivering an experience of Southwestern charm. Each of the rooms is designed differently (at least the original rooms are - they've since expanded over the years). The layout of the grounds is huge - we had to hunt around a bit to find the outdoor spa/sauna. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, and it's conveniently located on Cerrillos Rd. My mother loves staying here each time that she comes to Santa Fe, and I would definitely stay here again.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised that I am the first one to review this gem of a motel.  It's on Cerrillos road and you will pretty much need to drive to get anywhere.  However...

The price is reasonable for Santa Fe and inside you'll find well tended and landscaped grounds, well-appointed and comfortable Southwestern rooms, and plenty of places inside and out to relax.  That includes outdoor sitting areas and a nice livingroom area.  Decent free continental breakfast too.  Staff was also very knowledgable regarding things to do and see within Santa Fe and beyond.
