This location is by far the nicest and cleanest in town. The employees are decent, but, you know, it IS fast food. The drive-through experience is the usual, with the frequent necessity of repeating your order and double-checking to make sure it's right.
What I really love about El Pollo Loco is the food; it'sconsistently good and some items are absolutely delicious. I recently compared the El Pollo Loco chicken breast to the KFC grilled chicken breast (yes, I am a total nerd) and EPL blew KFC out of the water.
My favorite meal is a wing, a breast, steamed veggies, Spanish rice, and two flour tortillas. Kind of a make-your-own burrito deal. It fetches up around 720 calories, and definitely fills the belly, plus tastes like you actually ate something home-cooked. The Ultimate Pollo Bowl(though a bajillion calories) is also pretty tasty.
As far as fast food chicken goes, this is the best in town. The "plain" chicken is good, and if you're in the neighborhood and contemplating going to Qdoba for one of their "wet stew" burritos (compliments to Yelper Jay C. for so aptly describing Qdoba) I'd recommend you swing by this place for a chicken burrito instead.
The pollo asado is my favorite burrito here, packed with dark meat, guacamole, cilantro, salsa, and nothing else. They don't have it on their posted menu these days, but they'll still crank one out if you ask.
For fast food it's relatively healthy (assuming you don't have high blood pressure and that you'll eat some vegetables at your next meal). There's better Mexican to be had in Reno, but on days when I'm feeling lazy enough to eat fast food I'm usually feeling too lazy to drive across town.
My father lived in Reno, NV before he passed and he raved and raved about how El Pollo Loco had the best chicken, me being a chicken lover could not wait to experience El Pollo Loco's chicken. Well they didn't disappoint, it's gotta be some of the best chicken I have ever had. I've heard that there's one in Chicago (but too far for me to travel)....umm, when will El Pollo Loco be coming to the South Suburbs??? Just wondering...
Well, the jury is still out. My friend raved about El Pollo Loco and their tacos. The first day, I ordered two crunchy with a veggie side and asked for salsa and guacamole at their takeout window. I must say, the tacos were great! Two days later, I ordered the same at the takeout. The tacos were good but she gave me THREE cups of guacamole that were Liquid -so runny I had to toss all three. Don't know what happened. They say to go in and go to their fresh salsa bar - I will do that next so I'm only giving them three stars so far.
The staff is always friendly. Great parking, Fast and tasty food. I always order wing lover special. It's not on the menu but they do have it. It's four pieces of chicken wings, a choice of side order, and corn or flour tortilla. The restaurant is always clean too! Grilled chicken to go, baby!
