I realize it's strange to go to a place named 'The Chicken Grill' or at least that's what it would be translated at. However, they have a few specials and carnitas is something they only do on weekends apparently.

I'm glad that I went with it because it was so good, it's served with tortillas and fixings-extra for rice and beans but it's worth it. The pork was soft and tender that it was hard to get it on the fork. The balance of onions, beans, rice, cilantro and lime were delicious with the tortilla and the salty/slick pork of carnitas.

The damage was still under twenty dollars with drinks for three people. Pepsis and horchata, which was a little bland but still pretty good. A good choice for lunch.

When my friend brandon told me about this place I was unsure because it seemed to me just another "taco shop"

Came in ordered two carne asada tacos and BOY IT WAS GOOD! that cotija cheese is the best topper for every mexican dish.

They are also known for their grilled chicken just like el pollo loco. There food is so flavorful. I always crave this stuff.

Prices are very reasonable and affordable so give it a try

Lordy-Lord after leaving Northern California, which for me was mexican food galore, this is the only place I've found that can match anything I had up north.

Family owned, super friendly staff.

The food is unbeatable.

You can be good here or be real bad, with all the food options.

I've had:
Tamales-soooo good
Chicken-is da bomb! so tasty and flavorful
tacos-carne asada is also well seasoned
Chicken burrito-K-ILLER

R-E-A-L M-E-X-I-C-A-N FOOD NO IMITATIONS HERE!

So what sold me....
On one of my visits I saw the mom in the back cleaning the beans (making sure they have no dirt)
For one I knew the beans were REAL, not canned! And that someone was cooking them for me like my grams would cook for me.

You cannot get any better anywhere else.

Fresh salsa, chile jalapenos in vinegar authentic style.

I love me some pollo grill.

Y-U-M-M-O!

The grilled chicken is the star of the show here. Think El Pollo Loco, but good. The chicken is marinated in citrus and fired grilled whole. Once cooked its taken apart with sheers, and served steaming hot with tortillas and your choice of sides.
Family owned, they have two locations now. The new one is on Euclid Ave, near the Euclid Trolly. They remodeled the furniture reciently, so there is acualy a little less seating then there used to be.
The mexican food is typical taco stand fare, nothing new or unusual there, but everything is made fresh to order.
Parking can be tough in front, but there is an open lot behind the building.

I love this place. The taste of charbroiled chicken is unrivaled compared to places like El Pollo Loco. Non-queasy and firm chicken meat that's well cooked. The sides and fresh tortillas make it even more complete. The sides tend to come in Mexican rice, refried beans and pico salsa. The price is very reasonable and easily used as a leftover because just several bites you get really full from eating this plate. This is the authentic pollo plate in San Diego area. I am so thankful to a friend who recommended this place, a native San Diegan.  If I'm in the Lemon Grove area I'll keep coming to this place.

Grilled Chicken from El Pollo Grill, oh how I crave thee.

Seriously come here and get the grilled chicken combo/meal.. I think it's bomb. I get it with the regular beans (no refried) and the tortillas.. and the salsa.. OMG I want some.. NOW.

The mexican food is also delish, but a little pricey for taco shop food so I tend to stick to the grilled chicken. The grilled chicken is great value for what your getting, pretty much a restaurant-level meal.

Conclusion, not a taco shop. It's a bomb-ass place to get grilled chicken.

We use El Pollo Grill for carry out and catering only and our experiences have been good. Everybody seems to like the chicken and we have had no problems with dry chicken as noted in some other reviews. The problem I have with El Pollo Grill is that you can't order chicken by itself, you have to order rice and beans too and unlike the chicken they range from mediocre to pretty good. Their salsa is horrible, so we always leave it. The chicken also comes with tortillas. Be sure to order flower because the corn tortillas are no good.

We always phone in the order and that way we don't have to wait. Their "dining room" is depressing and there are usually people waiting.

I wish I could figure out the recipe because I'd just BBQ the chicken myself. Still if we have eight for a domino game or have a little party El Pollo Grill comes through.

The BEST Bean & Cheese burrito anywhere. They make the beans de la oya. That means it has little to no lard and taste great. Not that canned re-fried beans that some shops have . This place is Known for the amazing chicken. They use to be a little hole-in-the-wall taco shop, down the block. Now they have a large restaurant with the same great tasting food.

Damn good chicken. Tasty, not dry like El Pollo Loco and cheaper !

The owners are probably like...

" How dare this chino compare our chicken to that fast food chain !"

Guys, your pollo is awesome, and I'm not loco. Too bad this place is so far away from my apartment. I love it tho.

The Food is Delicious!  The chicken skin is crispy and the inside is moist....Yummy!!!!  I love thier chile relleno specials on Fridays, I wish they offered them everyday.  The rice, beans, salsa and tortillas are also very delicious.   I can't think of anything on the menu I tried and not liked.

The only reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 is for a couple of reasons.  First, their customer service sucks!  As many times as I am in that place, they apparently don't seem to remember me.  The girls at the registers need some lessons on people skills.  I like places where you are remembered and you get those WARM & FUSSIES, or ASS KISSES, which ever you prefer to call it!  The other reason is they close early on Sundays and that is usually family day to go out for Sunday dinner and they are closed before dinner time.

One of the best Mexican food restaraunts in the San Diego area. The chicken plates are really good - you gotta try it. The albondigas is good(tuesdays), the chili verde is very tasty though not spicy (thursdays), and the carnitas is top notch too (weekends)! The chicken rolled tacos are really good - better than my previous favorites - Santana's. They serve beer and a variety of mexican styled deserts including a good flan.

My personal favorite is the Charro burrito (carne asada marinated in an amazing secret sauce with diced onions, peppers, and jack cheese). You can also order it as tacos in a combo plate.

Two locations to serve you - the Euclid location doesnt serve all the daily specials from my experience. The Lemon Grove location is my prefered store even though the one off Euclid is closer.

THE Best Chicken in S.D. The chicken here is tender and juicy, and much better than el pollo loco. For obvious reasons everyone focuses on the chicken, but if you aren't in the mood for chicken, I HIGHLY recommend the carne asada burrito or the fish tacos both are VERY, VERY GOOD. I love the fact that the area where the food is prepared is open and exposed for customers to see, that way you can see the Pollo masters @ work!

The food was pretty good, but not great. However, I didn't try the chicken, I got the Carne Pollo Burrito combo. The burrito was huge, so that's a big plus in my book.

I ordered in-store and had to wait 15 minutes for my food. If I was eating there with friends, I wouldn't have minded at all, but I ordered to-go and started getting irritated.

This place was very good.... similar to El Pollo Loco, but in my opinion a dramatic improvement.

Unfortunately they were closed Friday night when I pulled up a little after 8, even though their sign said 9. When I called today I was given an apology and told that they didn't have enough people to work. I guess locally owned establishments get to do that. If it were a chain they would get called on it.

But that's the only bad part. Today I placed an order by phone for a 10-piece chicken, tortillas, salad (sub for beans), rice and drinks. It was ready and waiting when I got there. Service was very good and the restaurant was clean and inviting. I liked how I could see the chickens cooking and the staff making tortillas. The kitchen is open so almost the entire restaurant has a clear view. I'm not happy about the 50 cents surcharge for all debit and credit card transactions. I read once that establishments get charged a minuscule amount for debit cards and a lot more for credit cards, which is why I find it funny that some places charge for debit cards but not credit cards.

I took the food home to my loving wife and we ate. The food was very good. I felt it was much better than El Pollo Loco. Sometimes their chicken is rubbery and salty which was not the case here. The chicken was tender and meaty and very tasty. The tortillas were homemade and so was the salsa. The salad that we substituted for beans was loaded with cheese, and sour cream and was well above average. $25 for the entire thing, and we asked for all white meat. This will easily make two meals for us.

Overall, a very good value and excellent food!

There's a secret to this place: Tuesdays they have the BEST albondigas soup!!  They also have good carnitas on Saturday, there's a debate in my family whether they are better than Urapan - yeah, they are that good.

Back to the Tuesday soup - it's delicious! I try to remember to get it at least once a month. Sometimes it's sold out though : (   It comes w/ rice, fresh chopped onion, cilantro, lemon slice and tortillas (the tortillas are handmade and yummilicious).

I don't like the regular taco shop food and I don't recommend it, but the chicken w/ whole beans and rice, I recommend. It is really good and mmmm.. I want some right now!!

BEST CHICKEN IN THE CITY! YUMMY! Went here for the first time thanks to Ben and Judes, they live less than a minute away but yet we drove there. Prices are good and the quality is AWESOME! My co-worker always told me about this place but this is the first time I actually made it there. We ordered the 10 piece family combo, a pollo asado burrito, and a chicken tamale. WOW! Highly recommend it. It's worth the drive to go.

The Albondigas Soup is the only reason I'd come here.  It really is delicious!  The $6 serving is definitely enough for two people.   I've tried their Tamales and do not recommend them.  Totally unremarkable.  The Grilled Chicken is alright but nothing special.  That Albondigas is the bomb though.  Worth a drive to get it.

This place has the best rottiserie chicken in Town!!   the chicken is their main dish, they do offer an assortment of plates from sopes, chiles rellenos to albondigas, but the chicken is definitely what they specialize in.  I love the flavor they use, I haven't a better chicken than theirs.  The place is very nicely decorated.  They also have another location off of Euclid Ave, and that place is enormous with lots of seating and really cool flat screen tv's all over.  The ambiance is good but the Chicken is definitely the best!!
